Final Project Submission: Comprehensive Program Proposal Presentation

Imagine you are a unit manager or top level leader in your facility. You are responsible for planning and implementing a new program in your facility related to your research findings based on where you currently work (or a different facility of your choice). Perhaps there is a need for a program where you are working. The purpose of this project is to prepare you to understand the process of planning, implementing, and evaluating a new program.

For your final project, you will assume a management role from which you will create a program proposal that addresses the design, implementation, and evaluation of a program within your healthcare organization. This project will allow you to work through the program proposal process in an orderly fashion using data from a facility of your choice. You have learned to perform a needs assessment, which includes creating a logic model, anticipating outcomes, justifying resource allocations, and evaluating the program by proposing expected benchmarks and other measures to evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented program. This process will provide you with a strong foundation in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a program proposal.

  1. Prompt
Using a product such as PowerPoint or Prezi, prepare a presentation that outlines your program proposal. Your presentation should be directed at the organization’s upper management and should include detailed speaker notes or an audio recording. Your presentation must specifically address the following critical elements:

I. Introduction: Identify and describe the institution in which the new program would take place. Be sure to include the institution’s name, location, focus (such as hospital or other acute healthcare facility) and any other pertinent demographic identifiers.

  1. From a management perspective, perform the following assessments for implementation of a program:
    1. Assess the organizational design for potential program development.
    2. Assess the community needs in terms of healthcare disparities.
    3. Assess the organization’s current healthcare programs in terms of the level of cultural competence they exhibit.
    4. Recommend an appropriate and logical programmatic strategy, based on the results of your assessments.
    5. How does your recommended programmatic strategy align with ethical guidelines? Be sure to justify your response.
  2. Design the program by developing a logic model.
    1. Identify key organizational stakeholders and discuss their relationship to your proposed program. In other words, what role will these
stakeholders play with regard to the components of your logic model?
    2. Create a logic model based on the critical components of a logic model:
      1. Resources or inputs: Consider human, financial, organizational, and community resources.
      2. Activities: What does the program do with the resources? Activities are the processes, tools, events, technology, and actions that are an
intentional part of the program implementation.
      3. Outputs: These are short-, medium-, and long-term definitions of outcome criteria.
    3. Assign appropriate connections and feedback loops for the logic model.
  3. Discuss the anticipated outcomes of your program.
    1. What is your anticipated end result? How do you see the program producing results within your organization?
    2. How does this program fit into the organization? How does it affect the overall flow of healthcare delivery within the organization?
    3. What will be the impact of this program on other areas within the organization or community? Why? If you feel there will be no effect on other
areas, be sure to explain your reasoning.
    4. What will be the impact from this program with respect to complying with cultural competence standards? If you feel there will be no effect in
this regard, be sure to explain your reasoning.
  4. Attend to the financial aspects of your program.
    1. What specific resources would you suggest for use in your program? For example, what staffing and equipment suggestions would you make? Be
      sure to explain your rationale.
    2. How will the program fit into the organization’s current budget? In other words, will the program fit into the existing budget, or will concessions
      need to be made?
    3. What recommendations would you make for ensuring the program is financially sustainable?
  5. Consider the evaluation methods and results for your program.
    1. What will you measure (such as benchmarks, patient outcomes, or other measurable data) in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the program
      implementation?
    2. What tools will you use to measure the effect of your program on reducing the incidence of healthcare disparities?

C. How will these evaluation tools tell you whether the program is successful?
D. To what extent will the program help ensure healthcare equity across diverse populations? Be sure to justify your reasoning.

VII. Provide a brief summary of the key points and findings of your program proposal.

Guidelines for Submission: Your presentation should be between 15 and 20 slides (in addition to title and references slides) and should contain detailed speaker notes or an audio recording. Please feel free to be creative with this project, experimenting with backgrounds and slide-to-slide transitions; however, be sure that any citations and references are formatted according to APA guidelines.

Week 1 proposal development

Introduction to Assignment:

The purpose of this project is the creation of a research proposal. A research proposal is one of the initial steps toward conducting research. Even though the research proposal is due in Week 10, the nature of this type of assignment requires you to work on the proposal throughout the course. Each week, you will be reminded where you should be in the proposal development. It is also important to communicate with your course instructor each step of the way to get feedback. He or she will be able to answer your questions.

Week 1: Final Project: Selecting a Topic

Developing a research proposal is a good way to experience research aspects firsthand without conducting an actual research study.

In this assignment, you need to develop a research proposal. Your research proposal must be a 10–12-page document and include the following sections:

  • Introduction
  • Literature Review
  • Methodology
  • Discussion and Conclusion
  • References

Each week, you will concentrate on creating a section of the research proposal. The Methodology section will be based on either of the two major research designs, quantitative and qualitative. You will develop the final project as the course progresses by collating all the sections and incorporating them into a final proposal due for submission in Week 10.

This Week

Create the Introduction section of the research proposal. Include the following:

  • Select a topic for your research project.
  • Explain why this topic is of interest to you.
  • Explain the topic and describe the potential research areas in the topic.

Choosing your topic:

The best way to choose a topic is to research the topic before you choose it.

One of the biggest challenges in finding articles for your topic is that your topic may not have much in the way of research. The remedy for this is, when you first have an idea for a topic, to go to the online library and do a quick search on current research for your topic. If you can find several articles on your topic, then you’re good to go. If you can’t, then it would be good to modify your topic a bit or even change it until you find one that will generate the needed articles for your reviews.

When searching for articles, scan first and read later:

You can speed up your article search if you focus mainly on three things.

  • Look at the journal name—it may provide some insight into access to other articles. Many journals are specific to a certain discipline or area of study.
  • Review the abstract first—the abstract will provide valuable information on what the article may hold. Remember though it doesn’t contain all the information. It is still imperative to read the entire article if you choose it as one of the ones you will use.

Health Information: Data Standardization

 Directions:

As the Director of Health Information for a large health system, you have been asked to analyze data sets, secondary data sources, and archival methods through the application of health informatics techniques. The CEO and Board of Directors has asked you to propose a plan to implement across the organization and recommend best practices. Please follow the instructions below to complete the following assignment in APA . Minimum 5 pages & 5 references:

1. Investigate at least five (5) key challenges related to data sources and data dictionary composition, to meet the needs of a health system. Determine the importance of each challenge and its significance.

2. Investigate at least five (5) key challenges with data file structures (i.e., data definitions, data modeling, data warehousing, and database management systems). Determine the importance of each challenge and its significance.

3. Compare and contrast the key challenges. Specifically address the comparisons as advantages and/or disadvantages to data standardization.

4. Based on all the previous assignment components:

5. Construct a plan to manage information as a key strategic approach and part of the information management planning process, as an asset throughout the healthcare organization.

6. Recommend at least three (3) best practices in your plan.

7. Justify each recommendation.

2 Literature Essays

Essay1 : The Functions of Literature and Myth

In a 400-500 word essay: Discuss how the function of literature compares with the function of myth as described in chapter 3. To focus your answer, consider the hero myth alongside any combination of Homer’s Iliad, the novels of Ernest Hemingway discussed in this chapter, and one or more war poems from the chapter’s end.

Review “What is Myth” and “The Hero as World Myth” (chapter 3); “An Early Masterpiece: Homer’s Iliad,” “The Modern American Novel,” and “Critical Focus: Exploring the Poetry of War” (chapter 4).

Essay 2:  Essay: The Truth of Art

In a 400-500 word essay, address the following:

Aaron Douglas’s style “is the result of a deep-rooted belief that in trying to imitate the actual world, art-as-likeness was really falsifying the way we see that world.” Although all art is a form of imitation—whether of the actual or the imaginary world—Douglas’s belief highlights the way artists have used conflicting methods of getting to the “truth” of the world. Choose one image from early “realistic” methods of artistic representation and one image from later “art of alteration” and analyze the following:

  • How do the artists’ methods differ from each other?
  • What kind of truth does each work try to achieve?
  • What methods is each artist using to create this kind of truth?

Be sure to reference details from the pieces of art you choose to analyze.

Review “Renaissance Art” and “Art as Alteration” (chapter 5).

For this assignment, use the Broward College library to find at least one scholarly article that you can use to support the points you make in your essay.  You may use up to three sources in the essay.  Sources have to be properly cited using MLA in-text citations and properly documented in a MLA Works Cited list at the end of your essay.

Youth risk survey

The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBSS) is a national survey monitoring health behavior among youth and young adults. It is administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). For this assignment, use the “Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System Dataset” provided to practice calculating and interpreting the t-test. Refer to the instructional videos in the topic resources and the Using and Interpreting Statistics: A Practical Text for the Behavioral, Social, and Health Sciences textbook as a guide.

Part 1

Refer to the topic resources to review the documentation, questionnaires, and general information pertaining to the YRBSS and YRBS. Then use the 2015 “Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System Dataset” and conduct a two-sample t-test to determine if weight (in kg) differs by sex. Submit the SPSS output for the t-test.

Part 2

Create an 8-10 slide PowerPoint presentation to discuss the findings for the t-test. For the presentation of your PowerPoint, use Loom to create a voice-over or a video. Refer to the topic resources for additional guidance on recording your presentation with Loom. Include an additional slide for the Loom link at the beginning and an additional slide for references at the end.

Include the following:

  1. Identify which of three t-tests was selected and explain why this is the best statistical test and whether the assumptions were met.
  2. What are the null and alternative hypotheses?
  3. What is the decision rule?
  4. What is the test statistic and p-value?
  5. Interpretation of the t-test results (What was done? What was found? What does it mean? What suggestions are there for the creation of a health promotion intervention?).

General Requirements

Submit the SPSS exported output and the PowerPoint to the dropbox.

APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Deliverable 4 – Comparative Analysis

Scenario

You are the risk manager for a local, long-term care facility. Part of your role is to develop processes that fosters an environment that prioritizes patient safety. Conduct a comparative analysis of two of the most widely published briefs from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in recent years – To Err is Human and Crossing the Quality Chasm. According to the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering Medicine (2018), To Err is Human illuminated how tens of thousands of Americans die each year from medical errors and effectively put the issue of patient safety and quality on the radar screen of public and private policymakers. The Quality Chasm report described broader quality issues and defines six aims—care should be safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient and equitable—and 10 rules for care delivery redesign.

Instructions

In a comparative analysis, discuss the significance of each report on recent quality initiatives implemented by entities such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and the Joint Commission. Your comparative analysis should also contain an examination of the quantitative data collection methods used in each report. Make a recommendation based on your analysis on how your organization and similar organizations can utilize the findings from the reports to assist in continuous quality improvement of operations and the achievement of organizational goals.

Rubric:

Discusses the significance of each report on recent quality initiatives implemented by multiple entities with well-integrated, strong supporting information.

Comparative analysis examines the quantitative data collection methods used in each report in strong detail and supporting information.

Evaluates how organizations can utilize the findings from the reports to assist in continuous quality improvement of operations and the achievement of organizational goals with well-integrated, strong supporting information.

Part A. Research Component: Internetworking Business Model

In today’s fast-moving economy, traditional business models have evolved into hybrid versions of the original models. Enterprise X uses a hybrid business model. Analyze the evolving network business component of Enterprise X by first describing it in your words and explaining how the company integrated networking into its previous traditional business model. Then, illustrate with examples how their current hybrid business model can evolve into a more internetworking centered business model in order to compete as a global service provider. Justify your ideas with references from the literature and the Web and if possible refer to case studies.

To submit your assignment:

  • Use Microsoft Word to write a 750- to 1000-word position paper that describes your findings and recommendations.
  • You may include diagrams and illustrations to enhance and/or clarify your position on the technical issues addressed.
  • Follow APA guidelines to write the report and cite your sources as appropriate.

Now you must also prepare the first part of your strategy proposal where you will present your vision for Enterprise X. You will demonstrate understanding of the challenges ahead for Enterprise X by analyzing the following issues with respect to the planned internetworking strategy as described in your Position Paper. You continue to build the case for the new strategy by analyzing the needed new business network model:

  1. The requirements for a new business network model for including the new geographies where the company will operate within a global strategy.
  2. The internetworking concepts that will be integrated in the new strategy.
  3. The possible partnerships that will be needed to participate in the global marketplace.

Keep in mind that each week you will work on a new component of your proposal presentation and, combined, these weekly presentations will become your final project proposal that will be published to the class in Week 5. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation with five to ten charts covering the aspects of your strategy described above.

Conflict Management

Case Study:

Dante and Tiffany both work for an advertising company and were assigned a new account together. Their manager, who was very intimating with a loud, assertive voice, instructed them to create a proposal for the new customer which included a design for a restaurant logo and advertising slogan to be used on several billboards throughout the area. They had one week to create the proposal before it would be presented to the restaurant owners. Their boss raised his voice and demanded that they do a good job on the presentation and secure this account.

During the first day, Dante approached Tiffany and suggested they come up with an outline to split up the work and manage their time. Tiffany immediately stated that she would take the task of the logo and would submit it at the end of the week because she wanted to make sure she received credit for her work. Although Dante would have preferred to work together on both tasks, he agreed to let Tiffany complete the logo on her own. After all, they had very little time to complete the project and do a good job on it.

Over the next two days, Tiffany ignored Dante’s requests to work together and any input or ideas he had for the project. She brought her progress directly to the boss for feedback without ever showing it to Dante. Tiffany even started working on the slogan without Dante. When Dante approached Tiffany about her actions, she told him that she was more experienced in her position than him and this is the way she gets things done. Dante stepped back and let Tiffany complete the project on her own.

At the end of the week, Tiffany presented the campaign to the restaurant owners while Dante stood to the side. The restaurant owners were impressed with the logo and slogan and decided to accept the proposal. The boss was very pleased with Tiffany and Dante’s work and suggested they work together on future accounts. Tiffany was annoyed by her boss’s suggestion but did not say anything. Dante felt very disappointed and frustrated having to work with Tiffany.

Answer the following:

1. Identify the main conflict(s) in the case study. Why are these conflicts?

2. What are the conflict triggers for Dante and how would you describe Dante’s feelings that contributed to the conflict?

3. Of the 5 Killmann’s Conflict Management Styles, which style was used by Tiffany in this case study? Describe.

4. Of the 5 Killmann’s Conflict Management Styles, which style was used by Dante in this case study? Describe.

5. How could this situation have resulted with a better outcome for all if a different type of conflict management style was used?
