Nursing theories are tested and systematic ways to implement nursing practice. Select a nursing theory and its conceptual model. Prepare a 10-15 slide PowerPoint in which you describe the nursing theory and its conceptual model and demonstrate its application in nursing practice. Include the following:

Paper #1 Good evening. I think is a very good question. What is a considered a reasonable expectation of privacy? My employer issue padlocks to employees and assigned departmental lockers to each employee upon the day that they are hired. Whe working in union environment, the contention with the labor union then become a question of, “What happens if an employee is accused of theft and management requests to search the employee locker? Does management have the right to search the locker without the employees consent, without a warrant and without an emergency/require circumstance just because the employer owns the locker and the padlock? I would say that same would apply to that of the records, transcripts and text messages, unless the there is a warrant that is search specific to what is being investigated. My understanding is that private messages, photos and email that are private in nature, and even criminal potential activity non specific to the search warrants subject and target investigation is not open to be seized or searched. Such conduct or activity would constitute a fourth amendment violation in my opinion. Interestingly enough, it is my experience that there are aspects of public records that are required to be redacted prior to being submitted for a public records request and/ search warrant.

The Fourth Amendment grants the American people the right to remain free from unreasonable governmental searches” (Mund, 2018). “As interpreted by the Supreme Court, “A ‘search’ occurs when an expectation of privacy that society is prepared to consider reasonable is infringed (Mund, 2018)”

For this discussion, we will look at the expectation of privacy for the government’s cell phones and devices. When you think of expectation privacy the first thing that comes to mind is your home and automobile. The fourth amendment protects one from illegal search and seizures and ensures them the right to be secured in one’s person and home (Worrall and Moore,2014). However, the expectation of privacy for government devices is quite slim. Generally, if an employer has reason to believe employee misconduct has occurred, then the right to search an employee’s work area and or work devices is granted. Worrall and Moore (2014) states that the term reasonableness refers to a certain level of suspicion regarding the workplace. According to FIndlaw (2019) employers have the right to search an employee’s locker, office, desk, and computers. The reason for this is the area of question all belong to the employer including the computer and cables needed to operate the computer. As a state employee, the expectation of privacy is even vague. Each year Department of Corrections employees are required to complete what is called “Open Records” training. The open record training advises employees of the state of Tennessee facilities that any type of email feels from a work computer and or calls or text messages feel from a state issue phone are subject to be searched in the event of employee misconduct. For example, as a supervisor within the department, any message feels referring to an issue within the department can be used as evidence if presented in the future. The expectation of privacy does not apply when using state or government-issued devices. My rule for state devices is, do not share any information that should not be public knowledge. This applies while at work or at home as long as a state issued device is being used.

Final Project, Part I: Evaluate a Qualitative Study

For Part I of your Final Project, you will comprehensively evaluate an article of your choice that reports on a qualitative study. (Remember, a study that uses qualitative methods utilizes data that is not numerical.) Locate an article in the professional literature that addresses a topic you are interested in. Use the Area of Interest interactive (Links to an external site.) to assist you with this process. The article you select should describe a qualitative study and should have all or most of the expected sections, either with their own headings or embedded in the article, including: Introduction, Literature Review, Methods, Results, and Discussion.

In writing your evaluation of the article, you will use the information in Section 3.3 in your text. Do not simply tell what is in the article, but evaluate it using the questions in your text. Explain and justify your evaluation based on specific examples from the article.

Your paper should be 2100-2800 words (not counting the title, abstract and reference pages) and comprehensively evaluate an article of a qualitative study. Use proper APA formatting and good writing and organization in your evaluation paper.

In addition to your 2100-2800 word paper, upload a .pdf copy of the article to the Waypoint dropbox.

The following questions may help you in evaluating your articles, though you do not have to follow this format exactly. Be sure not to format your review as a Q/A list of responses. Rather construct a cohesive narrative focused on key themes in the literature.

1. Evaluate the Introduction and Literature Review.
   • Do the researchers present an adequate rationale for conducting the study? Explain.
   • What is the significance of the study?  What difference will it make to the field?
   • Is the literature review thorough and comprehensive?
   • Do the researchers demonstrate any potential biases in the literature review?
   • Are all important concepts clearly defined by the researchers?
   • Do the researchers clearly describe previous methods that are relevant to understanding the purpose for conducting this study?
2. Evaluate the Purpose Statement.
   • Does the article clearly state the purpose statement?
   • What is the purpose statement as expressed in the article?
   • Is the purpose statement clearly based on the argument developed in the literature review?
3. Evaluate the Methods Section.
   • Is a particular qualitative research design used (ethnography, case study, etc.)?  If so, what is it?
   • Is the research design consistent with the purpose presented in the introduction?
   • Did the researcher introduce any bias in the procedures used?
   • What type of sampling method is used?  Is that appropriate?
   • Are relevant demographic characteristics of the sample clearly identified?
   • Do the methods of sample selection used by the researchers provide a good representative sample, based on the population?
   • Are there any apparent biases in selection of the sample?
   • Is the sample size large enough for the study proposed?
   • What data collection method was used in the study (such as direct observation, interviews, survey)?
   • Is there an adequate description of the interview protocol or other instruments used?
   • What biases or limitations might there be in the data collection method?
4. Evaluate the Results Section.
   • How were the qualitative data analyzed?
   • Is the analysis method clearly described?
   • In describing the results, are concrete examples of the data clearly linked to identified themes, concepts, and/or theories?  Are these examples adequate?
5. Evaluate the Discussion Section.
   • Do the researchers clearly restate the purpose and research questions?
   • Do the researchers clearly discuss the implications of the findings and how they relate to theories, other findings, and actual practice?
   • Do the researchers identify potential limitations of the study and the results?
   • Do the researchers identify possible directions for future research?
6. Remaining Questions.
   • What aspects of qualitative methods do you still find challenging?
   • Was there any information in the above list that you were not able to find in the article you chose?

 

Read the “Oswego Outbreak Investigation,” located in the Topic Materials.

Part 1

Complete the following:

1. Using the line listing in the Excel “Oswego Line Listing Workbook,” calculate the attack rate ratios for each food item using the table in the Excel “Oswego Attack Rate Table.” Create a separate 2×2 table for the food item you think is responsible for the outbreak and interpret the attack rate ratio for this food item. Refer to the “Creating a 2×2 Contingency Table” resource for guidance.
2. Using the line listing in Excel “Oswego Line Listing Workbook,” construct an epidemic curve by the time of onset of illness. What does this curve tell you regarding the average incubation period, source, and transmission? 
3. Using the incubation range and clinical symptoms, identify potential infectious agents that could be responsible for the outbreak (refer to the Topic Material, “Compendium of Acute Foodborne and Waterborne Diseases”). Discuss your rationale.

Part 2

In a 500-750 word paper, evaluate the situation and present your findings. Including the following:

1. Does this case meet the definition of an “outbreak?” Why or why not?
2. Identify the steps required to investigate an outbreak. How did these steps help in investigating the Oswego event? Include the relevant information needed for each step to be successful.
3. Discuss the possible routes of transmission for the expected agent.
4. Based on this information, what control measures would you recommend? State whether they are primary, secondary, or tertiary prevention strategies.
