Operational excellence

 Question 1:

Describe how Operational Excellence plays a role in your organization. What tools could your organization use to be more effective at processes. Example  (Six Sigma tools.)

If you are currently unemployed, define the job you are looking for and how you can use Operational Excellence to create efficient and effective processes in your work environment.

500-700 words. Remember to cite your work and reference each citation use APA

Question 2:

Operational Performance

Operational performance is defined as the comparison of an organization’s performance with other standard factors such as legal compliance, efficiency and effectiveness of production with the reduction of wastes that the organization could manage. After an organization has disclosed the strategies, it is then forced to state its operational objectives that should be met to achieve the strategies. The company will then give out the ways it will use to achieve the objectives set, and they, therefore, set the working environment to fulfill at least some of the objectives set (Slack, Brandon-Jones & Johnston, 2011).

This performance is of importance in a business because it always acts as the base of the business since it represents the business’ assets and acts as a central reference for the customers and competitors, to help make up strategies of overcoming competition in coming future (Slack, Brandon-Jones & Johnston, 2011).

Question: What is the importance of operations performance in a firm? Provide examples on how operation performance is used in your organization or a company that you would like to work for.

500-700 words.

The basis of this paper will be a comparative analysis of three films.  The majority of this paper should discuss the ways in which the three films that you have chosen will relate to each other (either in similarity or in contrast) and to the major themes of the class.

How to do the paper:

1)  Choose your movies:  Choose one movie from each of the three main sections of the “Supplemental Film List” that can be found at the end of the syllabus.  Think carefully about your selection so that the movies will have some relationship to each other and thus facilitate some meaningful of comparison. You may choose a movie that you have already wrote about during the semester or one that we have not watched in its entirety during class time.  You may also choose a movie that in not on the “Supplemental Film List,” but it MUST be APPROVED by me in ADVANCE of writing the paper so that I am sure it will fit within the lists’ parameters.

2)  Choose at theme/topic:  Fundamentally this is a compare & contrast paper so you will need to chose a theme or topic to compare and contrast the films. Here is a list of themes/topics to choose from. You may decide to do something other than this list, but this list is a suggestion if you’re having trouble coming up with ideas.

  • Representation of gender roles (masculinity/femininity)
  • Humor/Comedy
  • Portrayals of violence
  • Representation of technology
  • Hero, Heroism
  • Portrayals of love intimacy
  • Portrayals of friendship
  • Interracial relationships
  • Youth, coming of age
  • Portrayals of land/relationship to land/geography

(Note: Because your paper is compare/contrast paper in some cases you will be finding the absences not merely the presence of these topics in some of these films. That is fine, it will be up to you to comment on why you thing these theme aren’t there or what is in their place or what their opposite is.)

3)  Write: Because this is a take-home final you will be graded on both content and form/structure of your essay.  Make sure that your essay is well organized. Make sure that you have a thesis and that your thesis makes an argument.  Make sure to use specific examples and details to back up your argument so that you don’t fall back on unsupported generalizations. Make that you are providing analysis, not just summarizing. In other words you must justify why the examples that you are using support your argument. You can’t just list them as examples and assume that their connection to your thesis is clear.

Make sure that your analysis includes the “non-narrative” elements of filmmaking that we have been talking about all semester such as sound, editing, and shooting techniques. Just like your response papers, much of your analysis should be based on analysis of how certain scenes produce the meaning that you are talking about in your argument. Also make sure you are doing critical analysis.  Don’t just take the film and its plot as face value as an “authentic” representation of Indians.  Pay attention to the intentions of the filmmakers, but also the meanings made by the way the film represents Indians that may not necessarily be the intentions of the filmmakers.  What effect does the representational choices made by the filmmakers have on the meaning of the film?

Paper due tomorrow 7pm EST!

DUE TOMORROW AT 7PM EST!

BEFORE STARTING NOTE: you will include a summary of assignment one as the intro! THIS IS ATTACHED AND MUST BE READ TO HELP WITH THIS PORTION!

Use the TNA to identify performance gaps and to establish specific training outcomes. This assignment builds on the previous one and will complete your TNA. Use at least three classroom resources in this assignment.

1. Include at least three training outcomes, based on the TNA

Think of training outcomes in a larger context:  how will the training solve the problem (or, address the need) at an organizational level?  Think of this as a justification for your training. How you would “sell” the training to the organization’s leadership team.  Why should they invest in the training. What’s in it for them (AKA, the organization)?

Remember, this should be as tangible as possible!

2. Identify the expected performance of the group or individuals as a result of the training

This is where you will focus more on the individual level. Think in terms of learning objectives.  As a result of the training, what will the target audience do (or not do) that will improve their performance?

3. Identify performance gaps and detail how training can help close those gaps

Here you will essentially validate your proposed training . What performance gaps (or needs) is the training intended to address and how do your training recommendations achieve this? There needs to be a clear connection between what you are proposing and what you are trying to address.

1.7 Assignment: Financial Case Study Paper—Company Overview

Getting Started

The goal of Applied Managerial Finance is to not only introduce you to various financial concepts, theories, and methods of analysis but also to give you an opportunity to apply this learning in order to evaluate the financial strengths, weaknesses, and risks of a real-world company and to formulate recommendations for management. To that end, you will work on an analysis and case study research paper in which you will apply various managerial finance techniques to an actual corporation.

Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:

  • Evaluate a company’s financial strengths and weaknesses based on its public financial statements.
  • Analyze a company’s capital structure and potential financial risks.
  • Develop recommendations for management action based on a company’s financial strengths, weaknesses, and risks.

Your paper will detail your analysis and make a recommendation, firmly grounded and supported by your analysis, as to what changes management should make in order to address its financial weaknesses or further capitalize on its financial strengths.

With each workshop, you will complete an additional section of the paper, culminating in a comprehensive final product. For this workshop, your goal is to review the requirements for the project, select your company, and write a brief overview that will serve as the foundation for your analysis.

Instructions

  1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
  2. Familiarize yourself with the structure and requirements for the full, final project by studying the instructions and rubric for the 6.6 Assignment.

      1. For instance, detailed company profiles can be found for most large companies in the Business Source Complete database.
      2. From the library homepage (OCLS), under “Article Databases,” select “Business.” On the next page, select “Business Source Complete.” You may be asked to login at this point, and you should then be in the Business Source Complete database.
      3. At the top-center of the screen, find the word “MORE.” Hover over the word, and you will get a drop-down menu where you can choose Company Profiles. Select and you will be taken to a screen where you can search for a company.
    3. A minimum of 12 unique research sources from reputable scholarly, news, or industry sources will be required for the final paper. Keep track of your resources so you can appropriately list them in the reference list of your paper. The sources should represent an appropriately well-balanced variety of perspectives.

Introduction to Marketing

Instructions:

In the IP 4, you will select any brand that you wish.   In the first section, concentrate on the feature (s) you want believe that the brand provides.  Explain and justify this feature (s) in the first section, before you write about the benefit (s) of the feature.  In the second paragraph, initially, explain and justify the benefit (s) of the feature.

Then, in the section, make up a positioning statement for the brand.  A positioning statement is a sentence that explains the image that the brand should get across to provide a distinctive competence to targeted consumers.  Spend some time writing this sentence, and then, justify it.  For example, I am making up one for Starbucks, below.  Pretend that I think that it should be more personalzied than competitors.  I might come up with the following positioning statement to convey the distinctive competence that I want the brand to have, compared to others:  “A real ‘Cheers Bar’ image” where you can get away and everyone will know your name personalized experience.”

Korean beliefs about Pregnancy and drinking

Scenario: Jay and Sue Kim, ages 29 and 26 years and married for 2 years, immigrated from South Korea and settled in Los Angeles. They have lived in a small one-bedroom apartment since their arrival. Both graduated from the same Korean university with baccalaureate degrees in English literature. They have one child, Joseph, age 1 year. When they arrived in the United States, Jay was unable to find a job because of his poor proficiency in English, despite his major in English literature. He eventually obtained a job with a moving company through a church friend. Sue is not working because of their son. Although the Kim’s did not attend a church before immigration, they are now regularly attending a Korean Protestant church in their neighborhood.

Sue is pregnant again, determined by a home pregnancy kit, with their second child and concerned about the medical costs. They did not use any contraceptives because she was breastfeeding. Because of financial limitations, Sue did not initially have prenatal care with her first pregnancy. However, she did keep up with the Korean traditional prenatal practice, tae-kyo. Eventually, she received help from her church and delivered a healthy son. She is not sure whether she can get financial help from her church again but is confident that her second child will be healthy if she follows the Korean traditional prenatal practices.

Jay is concerned about job security because he recently heard from colleagues that the moving company might soon go bankrupt. Although Jay has not been satisfied with his current job (he thinks that he is overqualified), this news is still a cause for concern. Moreover, Sue’s recent pregnancy has made Jay more stressed, and he has started drinking alcohol. Joseph cannot stand up by himself and still wants to be breastfed. Although Sue has tried to give foods such as oranges, apples, steamed rice, and milk (because she is now pregnant), Joseph refuses to eat them and cries for breastfeeding. Joseph’s weight is low-normal for same-age babies.

  1. Describe the Korean cultural practice tae-kyo. Is this practice congruent with allopathic recommendations for prenatal care?
  2. How do food choices among Koreans differ with pregnancy and postpartum?
  3. Describe cultural attitudes toward drinking among Koreans.
  4. Identify two or three culturally congruent strategies a healthcare provider might use to address Jay’s drinking.
  5. Should be at least 500 words, formatted and cited in current APA style with support from at least 2 academic sources.

Discussion: Formulating Research Questions

Research problems can come from a variety of places. A topic can come up during a discussion with a colleague that motivates you to want to learn more about it. You may have a question for which you cannot find an answer, so you decide to conduct a research study in hopes of finding an answer. You may identify a particular gap in knowledge and be inclined to investigate that gap and close it with the results of a research study.

For this Discussion, consider how crafting a good research question is the cornerstone for designing robust studies that yield useable data. Review the Sessions episode on the Talia Johnson case. Locate two articles authored by the researcher David Lisak on the topics of the undetected rapist and predatory nature.

By Day 3

Post two potential research questions related to the Sessions episode. Consider potential ethical or political issues related to the feasibility of investigating the questions. Evaluate each question in terms of how it might:

Contribute to development of new knowledge for social work

Lead to more effective practice interventions

Lead to social change

Be useful to other researchers

Finally, explain the criteria you used to decide which sources of information should be included. Please use the resources to support your answer.

Impact of Media and Technology on Society Overview

  1. Impact of Media and Technology on Society
    Overview
Prepare a position paper on a controversial issue in the news. Explain how the controversial issue has been impacted by the advancement of technology in the media. Select one of the topics addressed in this class: Race in the media, body image, treatment of women in the workplace (including equal pay and online harassment), public trust in the media, and free speech and hate speech.
You will want your position paper to outline specifically what the nature of the problem is, and demonstrate critical thinking, sound logic, valid claims, personal passion and credible support that is cited correctly.
    Requirements
Write a three-page paper in which you:

    1. In the introduction, include a quote, question or statistic from your text and an overview of the three major points you will cover.
    2. Introduce your position with a thesis statement at the end of the first paragraph.
    3. Provide three major points to support your thesis statement (put each major point in a separate paragraph).
