Treatment of Schizophrenia and Depression

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read the required chapters from the text and review the required articles for this week.

Taking on the role of the expert in the treatment of schizophrenia or depression, you will prepare a presentation for a group of physicians who are seeking your opinion on the treatment of patients with these disorders. For this interactive assignment you will create and upload a 5- to10-slide PowerPoint presentation as well as a five-minute screencast of the presentation to share with your peers.

For this presentation, select either schizophrenia or depression as the basis for your presentation. Begin by creating your PowerPoint presentation. In the presentation, include information which explains the neurotransmitter theory behind the disorder and how the drugs used to treat the disorder affect those neurotransmitter systems.  Evaluate the risk and benefits of treating a patient with the most common type of medication and of not using drugs to treat the patient. In your evaluation, examine issues such as the rate of success with the most common drugs used as well as the incidence of side effects with these same drugs, including mortality associated with drug use. Then consider not using medications to treat the disorder. Take into account the natural course of the illness, the rate of spontaneous recovery, and the rate of mortality when untreated. You may also incorporate the use of other modes of treatment into your evaluation.

Your PowerPoint must include your presenter notes in the notes field to indicate what you intend to say during the screencast and well-chosen images to enhance the understanding of your audience. Remember that your screencast will be a maximum of five-minutes, and use your speaker notes to ensure that you will be able to present your materials within this time limit. Once you have created your PowerPoint you will create a screencast presentation of up to 5 minutes in length using any screencasting software you choose. Attach your PowerPoint file to your intial post and include the URL for your screencast in the body of the post before submitting it.

Week 2

 

Assess the opening case study from Chapter 6: “Amazon is Hiring…Big Time!” In a three- to five-page paper (not including the title and references pages), create a recruiting and staffing strategy for Amazon, and select one position from the given list to write a recruiting and staffing plan; consider how many of these positions Amazon needs to fill. You must select from the following full-time positions: Warehouse Supervisor, Delivery Representative, and Customer Service Manager.)

Your paper must include the following:

  1. Write an introduction including the selected position, a preview of your paper, and a succinct thesis statement.
  2. Discuss the legal landscape, including special legal considerations that the company should be aware of.
  3. Create a recruiting plan for the position selected that includes the following:
    • Explain what recruiting is and why it is important.
    • Explain the tools that will be utilized to find candidates for filling the selected position, and state why each tool was selected.
  4. Create a selection plan for the position that includes the following:
    • Explain what staffing is and why it is important.
    • State what assessments will be used and why.
    • Discuss the types of interviewing techniques that will be used and why.
    • List five job-specific interview questions for the position candidates.
  5. Write a conclusion paragraph that reaffirms your thesis statement.

Patient Safety Case study

During remodeling and renovation of two patient care areas at a hospital, a new nurse call system was installed. A Code Blue alarm specific to each room was a component of the new nurse call system. The other patient care areas in the hospital were to receive the new nurse call system later in the year. Following installation of the new system, the nurses were instructed to begin using the Code Blue button in patient rooms, and they were assured that the alarm and room number would automatically appear on the hospital operator’s console. The new system made it unnecessary to call the operator to request a “Code Blue” and for the operator to announce the room number because it was done automatically. Unfortunately, this was a case in which patient safety was overlooked in the excitement of receiving new technology. It was soon discovered that the room number that appeared on the console did not correspond to the room number in which the button was being pushed. The discrepancy was noted with the first Code Blue in one of the renovated areas when the room number that appeared on the console was not a recognized room number in the hospital. Use of the Code Blue button was suspended immediately.

  • Discuss your thoughts on how the hospital could have avoided this patient safety mishap.
  • What steps should the hospital now take to fully implement the new system in a safe manner (think staff education, safety guidelines and regulations)?

Website Summary Review

Instructions: Locate three websites in order to complete the goal stated above—international strategic planning. You may also benefit from conducting your own Internet search of international marketing strategies. Write a 600-750 word paper as a memorandum of discovery. No particular format will be observed for this paper, but organize your writing into three sections that review each of the three websites, and then write a fourth concluding section that summarizes what you gleaned from this investigation. The summary conclusion should put together the benefit of the whole experience. There are many additional algorithms available for searching and sorting data structures. The searching and sorting algorithms that are typically used work best for particular data structures. For this assignment, you will examine 2 searching algorithms and 2 sorting algorithms and the associated data structures.

Choose 2 sorting algorithms and 2 searching algorithms, and describe them in detail, including the type of data structures they work well with. Complete the following:

The responsibility of the directors of a corporation is to provide a return to shareholders on their financial investment in the corporation; in other words, shareholders expect to make money on their investment. Sometimes, however, the duty to maximize profits runs contrary to legal, but still questionable, business opportunities.

Assume that you’re the director of one of the corporations listed below and have been presented with the business opportunity described in the scenario. Would you advise the corporation to accept the opportunity? Make sure to fully explain your answer, considering both the financial return expected and any related ethical concerns.

  • ToyCo has just been informed that its wooden trains produced in China contain lead paint and can no longer be sold in the United States. However, a distributor offers to negotiate a deal with a foreign company to sell the trains in a South American country that has no laws addressing the presence of lead paint in children’s toys.
  • BabyHealth is seeing decreasing sales of its powdered infant formula in the United States due to more and more mothers choosing to breastfeed their babies. In an effort to offset these losses, BabyHealth chooses to sell their formula in third-world countries. However, it is widely known that the water sources in these countries is often contaminated and not boiled prior to use.

Objective:
To create a job description for the position of director for a child care and education center and to evaluate your job description. 

Scenario:
You are the director working for a company that has multiple child care and education centers. The director at another center has recently left her position. During her exit interview, she said that she did not realize how much was going to be asked of her as a director, and she wished she had known what she was getting into before taking the job. The board of directors has asked you to help write a job description for her position, focusing on two of the most important director responsibilities, program maintenance and financial management as well as the joys of being a director. As a director well versed in this particular responsibility, you are asked to tackle this part of the posting.

Format:

  • Use a title page or header that includes your name, date, course and assignment title. 
  • When completing the weekly scenario, you must be sure to include both a focus assignment and a self-reflection. These must be clearly labeled using headings. Without the proper labels, I must assume that this step was not completed, and partial credit will be lost.

  • A self-reflection is a thorough explanation of your focus assignment. The self-reflection must be written in paragraph format with a minimum of 10 sentences.
  • One aspect of the self-reflection is to learn the skill of using evidence based practices in your work as an early childhood educator. For the purpose of the research assignment, you will do this by using research to justify your explanation of the focus assignment in the self-reflection.  
  • You must include a minimum of 2 in-text citations in your self-reflection. At least one of those must come from the assigned chapter. This to ensure that you are making connections with the chapter being read, which is the theory, and the practical application, which is the focus assignment. Assignment WEEK 1: Testing for One-Way ANOVA

 You had the chance earlier in the week to perform an article critique on ANOVA testing and obtain peer feedback. Now it is time to put all of that good practice to use and answer a social research question with the one-way ANOVA. As you head into the assignment, be sure and pay close attention to the assumptions of the test. Specifically, make sure the dependent and independent variables (factor) are amenable to use in the ANOVA (i.e., be sure to note levels of measurement). 

 

For this Assignment, you will examine the one-way ANOVA based on a research question.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources and media program related to one-way ANOVA testing.
  • Using the SPSS software, open the Afrobarometer dataset or the High School Longitudinal Study dataset (whichever you choose) found in the Learning Resources for this week.
  • Based on the dataset you chose, construct a research question that can be answered with a one-way ANOVA.
  • Once you perform your one-way ANOVA analysis, review Chapter 11 of the Wagner text to understand how to copy and paste your output into your Word document.

For Week 1 Assignment:

Write a 2- to 3-paragraph analysis of your one-way ANOVA results for your research question. If you are using the Afrobarometer Dataset, report the mean of Q1 (Age). If you are using the HS Long Survey Dataset, report the mean of X1SES. Do not forget to evaluate if the assumptions of the test are met. Include any post-hoc tests with an analysis of the strength of any relationship found (effect size). Also, in your analysis, display the data for the output. Based on your results, provide an explanation of what the implications of social change might be.

Use proper APA format, citations, and referencing for your analysis, research question, and display of output.
