State and Local Government

Paper must be double spaced, with one inch margins, 12 point font and include section headers for each of the paper sections noted below (Effective Campaign Issues, Summary of Formal and Informal Powers, Formal Powers Applied to Issues, Informal Powers Applied to Issues) and at least three full pages long.

Objective: The objective for this assignment is for students to understand the critical linkage between participatory democracy (elections) and public policy in a representative democracy. It is the individual and corporate responsibility of the voters to make sure that elected officials implement public policy beneficial to the public and, if they do not, to remove them from office the next election. Students must explain how elected governors can use their formal and informal powers to influence public policy.

Congratulations! You have recently been elected the Governor of Texas. You built your successful campaign around promises to address four issues that are significant to the voters of Texas: controlling immigration from Mexico, controlling spending on social programs (welfare, food stamps, Medicaid), making sure the death penalty is applied fairly and improving k-12 education. Please discuss each of these issues and focus on the following:

  • Why these issues likely helped get you elected Governor (refer to Campaign message and campaign strategy from Unit 2)? (Unit 2 Written Lectures, Slide 2-25)
  • Discuss the formal and informal powers of the Governor Texas? (Unit 6 Written Lectures, Slides 6-5, 6-6, 6-7, 6-8, 6-9, 6-10))
  • What is at least one formal power (do not use the same formal power all of the issues) that you can use to get each policy passed by the legislature? (Unit 6 Written Lectures, Slides 6-5, 6-6 & 6-7)
  • What is at least one informal power (do not use the same informal power for each of the issues) that you can use to get each policy passed by the legislature? (Unit 6 Written Lectures, Slides 6-9 & 6-10)

Paper should be organized using subject headers (ie. Campaign issues, Formal and informal powers, etc.).

ECOM-500: Business and IT- Module 07: Discussion Forum

Scenario: Magenta Multimedia has decided to incorporate social technology into its business to maintain its competitive advantage. It would like to use technologies that allow it to engage with customers, and that also allow employees to communicate with peers. The company’s current customer demographic is older, but management would like to expand the appeal of the company and its products to millennials (while not ignoring its current customer base). The company was impacted by the recent economic downturn, but is now growing again and is seeing positive financial results. Despite this, senior management is extremely budget-conscious and sensitive to incurring new expenses.

  • What social technology strategy would you recommend?
  • Why would you recommend this strategy?
  • How would this strategy benefit the organization?
  • What type of social media metrics would you recommend the organization use to ensure the social technology strategy is successful?
  • Given budget considerations, how would you justify the costs of your recommended strategy?
  • Embed course material concepts, principles, and theories, which require supporting citations along with at least two scholarly peer reviewed references supporting your answer. Keep in mind that these scholarly references can be found in the Saudi Digital Library by conducting an advanced search specific to scholarly references.
  •  APA style guidelines.’
  • 2 pages

Be sure to support your statements with logic and argument, citing all sources referenced. Post your initial response early, and check back often to continue the discussion. Be sure to respond to your peers’ posts as well.

Signature Assignment: Smart Parking Space App Presentation

Purpose

This assignment illustrates how data analytics can be used to create strategies for sustainable organizational success while integrating the organization’s mission with societal values. You’ll apply statistical time series modeling techniques to identify patterns and develop time-dependent demand models. You’ll practice organizing and delivering a presentation to senior decision-makers. The PowerPoint presentation includes an audio component in addition to speaker notes.

Resources: Microsoft Excel®, DAT565_v3_Wk6_Data_File *****The Excel file is also attached in the attachments*****!!!!!!

Scenario: A city’s administration isn’t driven by the goal of maximizing revenues or profits but instead looks at improving the quality of life of its residents. Many American cities are confronted with high traffic and congestion. Finding parking spaces, whether in the street or a parking lot, can be time consuming and contribute to congestion. Some cities have rolled out data-driven parking space management to reduce congestion and make traffic more fluid.

You’re a data analyst working for a mid-size city that has anticipated significant increments in population and car traffic. The city is evaluating whether it makes sense to invest in infrastructure to count and report the number of parking spaces available at the different parking lots downtown. This data would be collected and processed in real-time, feeding an app that motorists can access to find parking space availability in different parking lots throughout the city.

Instructions: Work with the provided Excel database. This database has the following columns:

  • LotCode: A unique code that identifies the parking lot
  • LotCapacity: A number with the respective parking lot capacity
  • LotOccupancy: A number with the current number of cars in the parking lot
  • TimeStamp: A day/time combination indicating the moment when occupancy was measured
  • Day: The day of the week corresponding to the TimeStamp
  • Insert a new column, OccupancyRate, recording occupancy rate as a percentage with one decimal. For instance, if the current LotOccupancy is 61 and LotCapacity is 577, then the OccupancyRate would be reported as 10.6 (or 10.6%).
  • Using the OccupancyRate and Day columns, construct box plots for each day of the week. You can use Insert > Insert Statistic Chart >Box and Whisker for this purpose. Is the median occupancy rate approximately the same throughout the week? If not, which days have lower median occupancy rates? Which days have higher median occupancy rates? Is this what you expected?
  • Using the OccupancyRate and LotCode columns, construct box plots for each parking lot. You can use Insert > Insert Statistic Chart >Box and Whisker for this purpose. Do all parking lots experience approximately equal occupancy rates? Are some parking lots more frequented than others? Is this what you expected?
  • Select any 2 parking lots. For each one, prepare as scatter plot showing occupancy rate against TimeStamp for the week 11/20/2016 –11/26/2016. Are occupancy rates time dependent? If so, which times seem to experience highest occupancy rates? Is this what you expected?

Presentation:

Create a 10- to 12-slide presentation with speaker notes and audio. Your audience is the City Council members who are responsible for deciding whether the city invests in resources to set in motion the smart parking space app.

Complete the following in your presentation:

  • Outline the rationale and goals of the project.
  • Utilize boxplots showing the occupancy rates for each day of the week. Include your interpretation of results.
  • Utilize box plots showing the occupancy rates for each parking lot. Include your interpretation of results.
  • Provide scatter plots showing occupancy rate against time of day of your selected four parking lots. Include your interpretation of results.
  • Make a recommendation about continuing with the implementation of this project.

Deliverable 1- Common Selling Styles

Assignment Content

  1. Competency
Distinguish between traditional, personal, and strategic selling.

    Student Success Criteria
View the grading rubric for this deliverable by selecting the “This item is graded with a rubric” link, which is located in the Details & Information pane.

    Scenario
You are the regional sales manager for International Herb Express (IHE) which is a large, US-based spice & herbs supplier. IHE sells to other businesses that purchase bulk spices and spice blends for use in their end products. The primary customers are baking and soup mix corporations that sell to other businesses, for example, bakeries, restaurants, other food-service, and regional grocery chains. IHE is launching a new spice blend that reflects a more diverse cultural & ethnic flavor profile than IHE’s traditional offerings.
The abridged marketing strategy for this new spice blend is to target both current customers, but also to reach new customers that are target regions with higher ethnic diversity and/or the more adventurous “foodies” market. The marketing efforts will focus on taste testing, sampling, and on-site promotion. IHE is launching this marketing plan to help create a product offering that is not as commodity-driven (as most spices and herbs are the same quality no matter where they are purchased) and can potentially offer higher profit margins.
It is important to note that spices and other ingredients are raw goods and traded as commodities. The raw price for these goods changes on a day-to-day basis. Pricing is based on classic supply and demand, though nature is a key contributor to the supply–extreme weather as well as health of crops have a direct impact on the supply chain and access to the raw goods.

    Instructions
The VP of Sales & Marketing has asked you to prepare a memo that recommends a selling approach to the sales and marketing executive team for the new product spice blend. You will need to evaluate the 3 major selling styles and explain which style would work best for this new product sales plan. Additionally, the recommendation includes the sales approach to meet the goals of the marketing plan. The memo should suggest a statement about ethics as it relates to sampling of product and maintaining integrity of recipes used in taste testing and sampling.
    Your recommendation should include:

    • A review of each of the three selling styles: traditional, personal, and strategic.
    • Recommend a style for taste testing, sampling, & on-site promotion.
    • Include ethics statement on integrity and how to spend and verify expenditures.
    • Identify ways the sales-customer relationship can add value through this new product line.

Healthcare Reform

Use the learning materials and additional resource readings from this week and reflect on whether you oppose or support the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Consider the nursing professional’s position as a caregiver and/or the healthcare leader as an administrator. Explore two significant components of the ACA that could potentially impact specific populations unjustly. Appraise the current political climate as it relates to repealing and replacing the ACA. For this weeks’ discussion, identify at least two reasons for keeping the ACA and at least two reasons that it should be repealed, replaced, or revised. Provide rationale for each.

course project- opening the door to your own business

After your negotiation and transaction with Mr. Barker, you start to realize that this could be a lucrative business. Your mother has been bugging you for months to get rid of all of the other children’s meal toys that you collected over the years. With your estimate, you probably have over $10,000 worth of toys.

For this part of the project, you will be starting your own business selling the children’s meals toys. At this point in time, you are the only one running the business, and you will not have any employees. If you were to structure a business based on the facts of this situation, which would you choose and why is that the best fit? At this point in time, you are the only one running the business and you will not have any employees.

Your paper should be 1-2 pages in length, double-spaced, and properly APA formatted.

Submit your completed assignment by following the directions linked below. Please check the Course Calendar for specific due dates.

Save your assignment as a Microsoft Word document. (Mac users, please remember to append the “.docx” extension to the filename.) The name of the file should be your first initial and last name, followed by an underscore and the name of the assignment, and an underscore and the date. An example is shown below:

social construction on media paper

Social Construction of a Criminal Justice Issue (Analysis Paper) | Graded

Directions:

This assignment requires that you select an issue in Criminal Justice and Media and analyze it in terms of social construction through the issue’s depictions in the media. The content must be supported by valid academic research, and that research must be properly cited.

Focus on content, not creativity. Follow the rubric and present the concepts required. This is not, for instance, research on police brutality. This is, perhaps, research on the social construction of police brutality (or some other topic), and the product should reflect that. Chapter 2 will be a great resource.

Examples

  • Depictions of law enforcement in entertainment media
  • Social construction of crime and race
  • Media treatment of white-collar crime
  • Television news coverage of violent crime
  • Social media depictions of police, courts/lawyers, or criminals

Parameters

  • Must cite any outside sources used
  • A minimum of 2,000 words
  • Double-spaced, New Times Roman, 12-point type
  • This assignment is worth up to 150 points
  • Please note that you may not rewrite or resubmit a paper from a prior class. This will result in a grade of zero. All papers will be submitted to Turnitin.com. APA style and documentation is required. Up to 10 percent (15 points on this assignment) will be deducted from your work if you did not properly cite and document your source(s)
  • Refer to An EasyGuide to APA Style, 2nd edition, for guidance on APA style and format
  • Please review the paper rubric for details on how a paper is graded
  • The paper is due no later than Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

Plagiarism

You are expected to write primarily in your own voice, using paraphrase, summary, and synthesis techniques when integrating information from class and outside sources. Use an author’s exact words only when the language is especially vivid, unique, or needed for technical accuracy. Failure to do so may result in charges of academic dishonesty.

Overusing an author’s exact words, such as including block quotations to meet word counts, may lead your readers to conclude that you lack appropriate comprehension of the subject matter or that you are neither an original thinker nor a skillful writer.

The US-Mexico Borderlands His 381 Essay

1. This question has two parts. First, what have been the primary causes of Mexican migration to the United States in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries? Second, how have the U.S. and Mexican governments attempted to restrict and regulate the migration of Mexicans and other ethnic groups since 1917? What role has race played in immigration restriction? Have these policies been consistent and effective? Why or why not?

In your essay, cite specific legislation and policies and the ways in which they were (or weren’t) implemented and enforced, and address both the continuities and changes in causes and policies over time. A complete answer to this question must make use Lytle-Hernández’s Migra! and the essays and primary sources in Major Problems.

The essay should be about 1000-1250 words (4-5 pages), typed with 12 pt. times roman font, double-spaced, with one-inch margins. Do not skip lines between paragraphs and be sure to indent each paragraph. Include page numbers at the bottom of each page. Do not use valuable space to retype the question; just indicate the number of the question you are answering at the top of the page. Use MLA parenthetical references (author, page #) at the end of any sentence or paragraph in which you use information, paraphrase or quote from the books or films.  All or most of your information must come from the readings, lectures, and films assigned in this course, but if you wish to use an outside source, do so sparingly and cite the source with complete information (author, title, publication information, and page numbers). Failing to do so would be plagiarism.

How to Hire Right the First Time

There is no best way to hire new employees – a strategy that works for one organization may not be best suited to another. Hiring practices and strategies vary based on position, location, resources, and industry. The purpose of this assignment is for you to begin researching and analyzing the concept of sourcing, selecting, and hiring new employees. This assignment will also provide a vehicle for you to review the process in an organization with which you are familiar, thereby building a foundation from which you can learn and assess.

For this assignment, you will write a four- to five-page paper (excluding the title and references pages) analyzing the manner in which an organization with which you are familiar hires new employees.

Assess the hiring process of the organization.

Explain how and where the organization sources candidates.

Identify who determines the recruitment and selection process.

Identify who reviews resumes and performance background checks and who determines if drug or medical assessments are necessary.

Explain who makes the decision on what the ideal candidate “looks like” for the position (i.e., job requirements and qualifications).

Examine the roles that managers, recruiters, co-workers, and candidates play in the hiring process.

Assess the organizational strategic components related to the hiring process.

Describe goal alignment between the hiring process and the organization strategy.

Evaluate how the organization’s strategy affects the hiring process.

Evaluate how human resources (HR) can change organizational strategy when the strategies create issues for the hiring process.

The How to Hire Right the First Time paper
