English Lit week 2 forum posting

Post your interpretation of this week’s readings.

For this week’s assignment, write a total of 3 full length pages that address each of the works assigned, as well as each of the questions below:

1. Please discuss how Winthrop’s statement that his community is to serve as a “city upon a hill” fits with Puritan ideology.

2. Please discuss your views of the withcraft essays you read.  Why do you think people were convinced that certain individuals were witches?  Did the current role of women come into play with these historical episodes?

3. Describe Anne Hutchinson’s trial.  Though she was put on trial before the witchcraft trials, do you think we can learn anything about the people who persecuted during the trials from Hutchinson’s ordeal?

4. Discuss Mary Rowladnson’s narrative. What do feel about Mary and her story?  There were many captivity narratives in this era, but her story has become a classic; why do you think this is?

5. Discuss 3 moments within this narrative that show Mary being changed into commiserating with her American Indian captives.

6. Do you think by the end of her narrative Mary wishes to go home?  Could you argue that she had more freedom in her present community?

7. Why does Mary weep at the end of the text when she returns home?

Family Oriented Final Paper

General Instructions:

1. Use double line spacing and font size 12 for your paper.

2. The length of your paper is expected to be 10-12 pages.

3. Attached is the case study that is going to be needed to write this paper

FINAL PAPER

In this final paper, you are asked to apply all you have learned from the family systems theories in analyzing a case you have handled or are handling. It aims to help you to integrate the theoretical concepts in an actual case. The analyses and discussion of intervention should be drawn from you learning through the assigned reading, lectures, videos, discussions, etc. Address each of the following questions in your paper. You should give background information of the family, the agency setting, and the circumstance under which the family sought help or was referred for service.

1) State clearly and succinctly the presenting problem(s) of this family, that is, what caused them to come in for help or be referred by others for help.

2) Analyze the case and suggest some intervention strategies using concepts from at least two

schools of family therapy you have learned in this course addressing the following aspects:

a) The theoretical formulations of the “causes” of the presenting problem(s) or other problems you have noted in this family.

b) Describe the relational structure or other important dynamics of the family according to the theoretical orientations.

c) How may the flaws of the family dynamics/unmet needs/self-defeating narratives/negative interactional cycles/limited emotional repertoire/misguided attempted solutions/previous generational legacies, etc. relate to the presenting or other problems?

d) Based on the theoretical orientations, what are the treatment goals you have formulated accordingly, in addition to the reduction or eradication of the presenting problem(s)? Set specific and realistic goals as far as possible.

e) What specific intervention strategies have you tried or plan to use to facilitate the desired changes or goal attainment based on the theories you have chosen?

This section is the major bulk of the paper and should constitute at least 5-6 pages.

3) What are some of the strengths of the family that you have observed, which could be mobilized?

4) Address the impact of the ecological contexts or the larger systems on the family. What are some of its resources and limitations for this family?

5) How may diversity issues affect the functioning of the family, if applicable?

6) Do you see issues that warrant advocacy for the family, which otherwise would be a violation of the basic human rights of the client/family and social justice?

7) What are some of the interface issues, including your own background (cultural or otherwise, similar to or different from the family) and counter-transference that you have to face in working with this family? Are there ethical dilemmas you may have to face as well? How have you handled them or plan to do so?

Family Oriented Treatment

17

You may give the background information of your case by integrating it into your paper as you address the above questions. Or, you can write the case summary first, then analyze it according to the above guiding questions. The APA style of citation is expected if you cite references. Do not give detailed explanation of the concepts, the main point is to apply the concepts in analyzing your case. You can cite references if it is appropriate and helpful in advancing understanding of the point you are making in relation to the case situation. If you have not worked with a case with which you know enough about the family to address the above questions, you should request for a case summary provided by the instructor.

To Prepare

  • Read the article, The Helpful Responses Questionnaire: A Procedure for Measuring Therapeutic Empathy.” Consider the relationship between accurate empathy and reflective listening. Also, pay particular attention to how responses to the Helpful Responses Questionnaire are rated.
  • Review the remaining Learning Resources on reflective listening. Think about the differences between simple and complex reflections.
  • Read the statements in Table 1 of the article, “The Helpful Responses Questionnaire: A Procedure for Measuring Therapeutic Empathy.” Consider how you might accurately reflect what the service user is saying each statement to be helpful.
  • Read the statements in the Reflection Worksheet. Think about how you would use simple and complex reflections to respond to each statement.
  • Write a 1- to 2-sentence reflection to each statement in Table 1 of the article, “The Helpful Responses Questionnaire: A Procedure for Measuring Therapeutic Empathy.” Your response should represent the next thing you might say if you wanted to be helpful.
  • Write one simple reflection and one complex reflection in response to the statements in the Reflection Worksheet.

visualization assignment.

visualization.

Select any example of a visualization or infographic, maybe your own work or that of others. The task is to undertake a deep, detailed ‘forensic’ like assessment of the design choices made across each of the five layers of the chosen visualization’s anatomy. In each case your assessment is only concerned with one design layer at a time. For this task, take a close look at the annotation choices:

  1. Start by identifying all the annotation features deployed, listing them under the headers of either project or chart annotation
  2. How suitable are the choices and deployment of these annotation features? If they are not, what do you think they should have been?
  3. Go through the set of ‘Influencing factors’ from the latter section of the book’s chapter to help shape your assessment and to possibly inform how you might tackle this design layer differently
  4. Also, considering the range of potential annotation features, what would you do differently or additionally?

Submit a two-page document answering all of the questions above.  Be sure to show the visualization first and then thoroughly answer the above questions. Ensure that there are at least two-peer reviewed sources utilized this week to support your work.

organ leader:

his week’s journal article focuses on attribution theory and how it influences the implementation of innovation technologies.  Two types of employee attributions are noted in the article (intentionality and deceptive intentionality), please review these concepts and answer the following questions:

  1. Provide a high-level overview/ summary of the case study
  2. Note how constructive intentionality impacts innovation implementations
  3. Find another article that adds to the overall findings of the case and note how attribution-based perspective enhances successful innovation implementations.  Please be explicit and detailed in answering this question.

Statistics Nursing

This week you will use the Bureau of Labor Statistics website to search for income data on the occupation you are seeking.  Visit the following website:  https://www.bls.gov/bls/blswage.htm (Links to an external site.)

Registered Nurse profession:

https://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes291141.htm

The BLS has wage information for hundreds of jobs and data can also be found by state. There is much information here so take some time to browse around.

Once you arrive at the site, complete the following steps to gather the data you need to answer the discussion questions.

Part 1

  • Search for information on your occupation by clicking on national wage data 800 occupations. This will take you to the Occupational Employment Statistics page.
  • Scroll to the bottom of that page for a table listing the major and sub-job categories. Note in the first column there is an occupation code. For example, accountants and auditors have the code 13-2011 and are listed under banking and financial operations.
  • Click on the job title to find earnings information. There you will find mean wages as well as percentiles and the 5-number summary.
  • Compare the mean and median pays. For example, the mean pay for accountants was $78,800 and the median was $70,500.
  • Record the information on percentiles, the 5-number summary, the mean and the median.

Part 2

  • Above the data on the occupation page, you will find the following links:
    • National estimates for this occupation
    • Industry profile for this occupation
    • Geographic profile for this occupation.
  • Select the geographic profile to view maps of the states.
  • Scroll down to the map that presents mean wages by state using the color code.
  • Compare the ranges of wages of the states based on the ranges presented.
  • Identify the highest paying and lowest paying states.

Step 3

Include the following in your discussion post:

  • Share the information you found in steps 1 and 2.
  • Discuss your interpretation of the statistics you recorded in Part 1.
    • Percentiles
    • Mean
    • Median
  • How different are the salaries shown in the map of states?
    • What is the range for your state? Illinois
    • Would you move to another state based on this data? no
    • What other statistics would you want to know before making that decision?
  • What effect do the lowest paid and highest paid states have on the calculation of the mean and median for the United States?
  • Suppose you were asked by a potential employer to request a salary. Which is the best measure to use to find “average” earnings for your occupation? Explain your answer.

Design employee satisfaction survey/ design employee satisfaction plan

1. Individual Project: Design employee satisfaction survey/ design employee satisfaction plan

Scenario – Stacey is the vice president of HR at ‘ITFast’, a midsized IT sector company. She has called for urgent meeting of HR department staff as nearly 100 employees had given notice to leave the company in recent weeks.

“This is a long list of escapees….we’re losing them faster than your people can bring them in,” she said, turning to John, the head of recruiting. “Our turnover rate is up to 35%.”

“We are growing — in revenue, profitability, and reputation, I just don’t understand why people are leaving us fast” said Stacey.

“I need to present these numbers to Mr Richard Leo (CEO) at the end of the week, and I can’t do that without a theory on what’s happening and a solution to propose. That’s why I called this meeting,” said Stacey.

“This is even surprising given that our work culture is our biggest selling point. We don’t treat our employees just as a cog in the machine, and our company and its managers — Richard included — will listen to them. That everyone at ‘ITFast’ matters.”

PART A -Task: Stacey has hired you as their HR consultant to create and roll out employee satisfaction survey that will help her uncover the reasons behind employee turnover so that she can put new policies in place.

Your task is to carefully design the questionnaire (15 questions) in the light of theories/concepts/Canadian Laws discussed in the class.

· Keep in mind, you can not ask any discriminatory questions or question prohibited by law, in the survey.

· For every question include a line or two to explain the purpose of this question and how will this question help you to know the causes of employee dissatisfaction. Avoid lengthy explanations (you will be marked down for that)

· You will also be marked down for every question that seems irrelevant/off the topic.

PART B -Task: based on areas of improvement identified in part A – create employee engagement/satisfaction plan for ITFast that will help them reduce employee turnover.

· Your plan should have clearly identified strategies/programs (3 strictly), each strategy should be explained in small paragraphs. Avoid unnecessary length.

Assessment Criteria

· ANALYSIS – You will be marked on thoroughness of your analysis and how well informed and well thought your analysis is. How creative and unique your proposed strategies/programs are. How well do you know and incorporate both federal and provincial laws in designing questionnaire and recommending improvement strategies. How many important elements of HR are you covering in your assignment.

· PAPER REQUIREMENTS – Whether students have fully understood the paper requirements. If all requirements are satisfactorily met/fulfilled. Whether or not all questions have been answered.

· QUALITY AND VARIETY OF SOURCES – For this information to be robust you have to use at least 10 references – Google, Wikipedia will not be considered as authentic sources you will be marked down for using them. You can use company websites, Governmental & provincial websites of Canada, Labour laws both federal and provincial, updated textbooks, and industry papers etc.,

· FORMATTING – You must include title page and list of references for this Exercise. APA style of formatting for font style, line spacing etc., must be used. NO Abstract or Introduction needed start directly with part A.

SOCW 6311 wk 10 Assignment: Designing a Plan for Outcome Evaluation

SOCW 6311 wk 10 Assignment: Designing a Plan for Outcome Evaluation

Social workers can apply knowledge and skills learned from conducting one type of evaluation to others. Moreover, evaluations themselves can inform and com`plement each other throughout the life of a program. This week, you apply all that you have learned about program evaluation throughout this course to aid you in program evaluation.

To prepare for this Assignment, review “Basic Guide to Program Evaluation (Including Outcomes Evaluation)” from this week’s resources, Plummer, S.-B., Makris, S., & Brocksen S. (Eds.). (2014b). Social work case studies: Concentration year. Retrieved from http://www.vitalsource.com , especially the sections titled “Outcomes-Based Evaluation” and “Contents of an Evaluation Plan.” Then, select a program that you would like to evaluate. You should build on work that you have done in previous assignments, but be sure to self-cite any written work that you have already submitted. Complete as many areas of the “Contents of an Evaluation Plan” as possible, leaving out items that assume you have already collected and analyzed the data.

Submit a 4- to 5-page paper that outlines a plan for a program evaluation focused on outcomes. Be specific and elaborate. Include the following information:

  • The purpose of      the evaluation, including specific questions to be answered
  • The outcomes to      be evaluated
  • The indicators      or instruments to be used to measure those outcomes, including the      strengths and limitations of those measures to be used to evaluate the      outcomes
  • A rationale for      selecting among the six group research designs
  • The methods for      collecting, organizing and analyzing data

The importance of research answer

According to Sutton and Austin (2015), qualitative research can help researchers access the thoughts and feelings of research participants, enabling the development of an understanding of the meaning that people ascribe to their experiences. Qualitative work requires reflection on the part of researchers, both before and during the research process, to provide context and understanding for readers. When being reflexive, researchers should not try to ignore or avoid their own biases as this would likely be impossible; instead, reflexivity requires researchers to reflect upon and clearly articulate their position and subjectivities (world view, perspectives, biases) so that readers can better understand the filters through which questions were asked, data were gathered and analyzed, and findings were reported. The role of the researcher in qualitative research is to attempt to access the thoughts and feelings of study participants. Whatever philosophical standpoint the researcher is taking and whatever the data collection method (e.g., focus group, one-to-one interviews), the process will involve generating large amounts of data (Sutton & Austin, 2015).

Sutton and Austin (2015) also state that many researchers will also maintain a folder of “field notes” to complement audio-taped interviews. Field notes allow the researcher to maintain and comment upon impressions, environmental contexts, behaviors, and nonverbal cues that may not be adequately captured through the audio-recording; they are typically handwritten in a small notebook simultaneously the interview takes place. Interpretation of the data will depend on the theoretical standpoint taken by researchers. A qualitative research method is known as interpretative phenomenological analysis, which has 2 basic tenets: first, that it is rooted in phenomenology, attempting to understand the meaning that individuals ascribe to their lived experiences, and second, that the researcher must attempt to interpret this meaning in the context of the research. Qualitative researchers tend to report findings rather than results, as the latter term typically implies that the data have come from a quantitative source. The final presentation of the research will usually be in the form of a report or a paper and should follow accepted academic guidelines. In particular, the article should begin with an introduction, including a literature review and rationale for the research (Sutton & Austin, 2015).

An article by Colorafi and Evans (2016) states that qualitative descriptive studies focus on low-inference descriptions, which increases the likelihood of agreement among multiple researchers. The difference between high and low inference approaches is not one of rigor but refers to the amount of logical reasoning required to move from a data-based premise to a conclusion. Researchers who use qualitative description may choose to use the lens of an associated interpretive theory or conceptual framework to guide their studies. However, they are prepared to alter that framework as necessary during the study (Colorafi & Evans, 2016).
