She has never been sick and does not like to take pills.

She is examined by the emergency room doctor and diagnosed with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). The doctor has ordered medication for you to administer. Although Crash focuses largely on how individuals perpetuate racism and stereotypes, it also portrays how structural or systemic racism and inequality impact our society. What are some of the ways in which the film shows the existence of structural/systemic racism and inequality? How do larger groups or institutions such as, for example, the LAPD, the criminal justice system, the media, or Hollywood perpetuate racism and inequality in the film?

) Crash portrays many ways in which characters judge each other without really knowing one another. Some obvious examples include judging others by their race, class, or gender, but in this film we also see people making judgments about others based off their language, https://myhomeworkassister.com/blog/ accent, profession, religion, and style of dress, among other examples.

Discuss some of these examples, explaining what judgments and assumptions are made about certain characters and why. Then, explain how the characters’ personal stories help to challenge or disprove some of the judgments and assumptions others make about them.
What does the film teach us about the complexity of the human character?

When we think of characters in literature or film, we often think of “good guys” and “bad guys,” protagonists and antagonists, but in reality, all humans are capable of both good and evil, and we all act in both ethical and unethical ways in different circumstances. https://trustedessayhelpers.com/essayquestions/

From the following sixteen questions, select eight and answer fully in essay form (i.e., more than one paragraph for each answer), using specific quotes and references from the novels and short stories being discussed. Please note that your eight selected questions must include questions about The Great Gatsby, Washington Square, and various short stories. You cannot focus on only one piece of literature. You must demonstrate engagement with both forms – long and short — that we covered.  Note: Each question is worth 12.5 points.

  1. The Great Gatsby is sometimes described as a love story. However, closer examination reveals that there are also other complex themes present, such as the nature of friendship or illusion vs. reality, in addition to romantic or obsessive love. Select a theme that you feel dominates the story and discuss what it reveals about at least two of the main characters.
  2. Although Fitzgerald’s novel is entitled The Great Gatsby, the main character does not physically appear in the book until the middle of Chapter Three. Discuss why Fitzgerald as author has elected to delay Gatsby’s physical entrance into the tale.  What purpose is served by having people gossip about Gatsby before he actively participates in the story?
  3. As a writer, Fitzgerald is famous for his elegant use of language, creating a solid sense of time and place.  Discuss a scene you find particularly vivid and well-described.  Tell why, using specific examples.
  4. Washington Square by Henry James is largely a quiet novel driven by characterization. Please select any two of the main characters and discuss ways in which they grow – or remain the same. Be specific with your examples.
  5. What is Dr. Sloper’s view of Morris Townsend? How does it differ from the way Catherine sees Morris? Why does Dr. Sloper feel Catherine should accept his view of her suitor as accurate and ignore her own feelings?
  6. Explore the relationship between Morris Townsend and Lavinia Penniman. What does each expect from the other? Does the way Aunt Lavinia regards Morris help or hurt the relationship between Catherine and Morris?
  7. We have covered three short stories that deal with mental illness – The Tell-Tale Heart by Poe, The Yellow Wallpaper by Perkins Gilman, and Bartleby by Melville. Although they share a common theme, that of madness, it is handled in very different ways.  Describe how each author creates a sense of isolation and/or emotional turmoil for the main character in each story.
  8. An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Bierce and The Story of an Hour by Chopin are innovative tales with surprise endings. Decide which of the two presents its “twist” more effectively and discuss why using specific examples.
  9. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story Bernice Bobs Her Hair, is an exploration into how to be popular – or so it would seem.  In the tale, Marjorie tutors her unpopular cousin Bernice in ways to be flirtatious and well-liked, but the ultimate outcome is not quite what anyone expects. How does Bernice grow throughout the story?  Does Marjorie grow as well?  Use specific plot points to help explain your answer.
  10. Leaf by Niggle by J.R.R. Tolkien is a famous allegorical tale about creativity and connection to people. What does the artist Niggle learn about his own creative process as he struggles first to complete his painting — and then to complete himself?
  11. Paul’s Case by Willa Cather is a story of a young man trying to shape his life  to fit his desires.  Are any of his expectatoins realistic? Is the ending of the story a surprise or a logical outcome?  Defend your answer.
  12. Fitzgerald’s Bernice Bobs Her Hair and Willa Cather’s Paul’s Case are stories about the search for adolescent identity.  Both Bernice and Paul go through personal transformation in attempts  to fit into different  social groups. Of the two,  which charater is more successful in doing so, even  if only  for a short while?
  13. O. Henry’s The Gift of the Magi is a famous story about a surprising gift exchange between a newlywed couple.  How does the twist at the end demonstrate the concept of irony
  14. Kate Chopin’s A Pair of Silk Stockings is a story about dreams and indulgences . Does Mrs. Sommers make good use of her unexpected windfall of money by treating herself to a day out? Why or why not?
  15. The Real Thing by Henry James is a story of a commercial artist/illustrator who desires  to be more connected  to the upper classes of society.  He sees his work withhis new models — the Monarchs — as a way to elevate his talent and his position in the artistic community.  Does he succeed? Why or why not?
  16. Select any one of the short stories we discussed this semester and demonstrate how it follows (or does NOT follow) Poe’s ideas for short story construction set forth in his 1846 essay The Philosophy of Composition.

  • type 2 diabetes,
  • heart disease,
  • mental illness, or

Part 2…… NEED TO BE 1 Paragraph Long

You are a community health educator in the Southwest United States. Your county health department received a grant to create a new initiative that is designed to decrease smoking rates in the county. Your health commissioner and Board of Health want to create a team of teachers, parents, community leaders, and public health professionals to develop an intervention.

In your opinion, which cognitive and affective methods would be useful for this purpose, and why?

250 words 8 hrs

For this assignment, you can choose a song, a speech, a newspaper article, an essay, or anything else that is written for the purpose of persuading someone. To find a piece to analyze, you can do any of the following:

Choose a song you like.

Go to a newspaper website. Find any article/editorial that makes an argument. Even if the argument is not overt, any article/editorial has an argument.

Political speeches are full of rhetoric! Google any politician and “speech.”

Commencement addresses are also rife with rhetoric. Search youtube or Google for commencement addresses.

Find an essay from an anthology of essays or a website dedicated to essays (such as Lennyletter.com, goodblacknews.com, brietbart, etc.).

Tips:

If you use a speech, make sure you can find the text of the speech, not just the audio.

Consider how easy/difficult the piece will be to analyze. Don’t choose something you have trouble finding the argument/purpose.

You may choose a satire piece (“A Modest Proposal,” anything from The Onion or the Berkowitz Report, etc.), but rhetorical devices work differently for satire, so take that into account if you decide to go that route.

You can choose a poem or piece of fiction. This doesn’t mean you should choose a poem or piece of fiction. As with satire, devices work differently in fiction, so I would only choose this option if you’re a lit major or really like analyzing poetry.

These are only suggestions. There are a million things you can analyze for this. So long as it is something that uses words, you can use it for this assignment. Don’t choose something with images–that’s our next paper.

Persuasion

: For this assignment, you will use a guided prompt to write notes that will help you better understand how to approach the persuasive essay. As you follow the guide, remember to apply the information you have learned in Modules One and Two when discussing your issue. In Module Three, you will build upon these writing notes to prepare a more refined Writing Plan, which will help to prepare you to draft your persuasive essay. For this Writing Notes assignment, the following critical elements must be addressed in one fully developed paragraph each: I. Writing Notes: Use these writing notes as a way to gather your thoughts and determine your strategy for writing your persuasive essay. This process will allow you to develop a potential structure for effectively persuading readers to agree with your argument. These notes will be helpful in keeping your thought process on track when you begin writing and revising your essay. 1. Your argument is the main point that you are trying to make in your essay. It should clearly state your opinion on your issue. Describe the argument to be addressed in your persuasive essay, and include how the argument is connected to your major, the major you are considering pursuing, or your field of work. 2. Key points are pieces of evidence that support an author’s main argument. What are three possible key points for your selected issue? How do they support your main argument? 3. Your audience is the person or people you are addressing in your essay. Who is the audience that will be reading your essay? What potential challenges will you encounter in supporting your argument with this audience? 4. Your goal is the end result that you wish to achieve in writing this essay. What goal do you hope to accomplish? What will this essay need to be successful? 5. Potential resources are pieces of evidence that could be used to support your argument. List potential resources that could be used as supporting evidence for your argument, and provide a brief description of each and how it will reinforce your argument. 6. Using the supporting resources you identified above, list each of the points of your argument with the resources that support them. This process will help you begin to form an effective essay structure. 7. Determine aspects of your argument that would be effectively supported with evidence. Defend your choices.
