**ANSWER THE DISCUSSION QUESTION 250 WORDS MIN**

Discussion Questions: How should the United States government deal with the heightened concern about homegrown violent extremism and the growing concern for the preservation of civil liberties? What are the political and constitutional consequences of counter-terrorism? Lastly, how do we assess the tradeoffs between freedom and security?

***REPLY TO EACH POST 100 WORDS MIN EACH***

1. The United States government will always have to face the homegrown violent extremist because with the internet alone people are able to research just about anything and find their answers. The civil liberties are being violated because you have FBI and CIA looking into what people on doing on the webs. I personally believe that you gave up the right when you decided to goggle whatever it is you’re looking up. It’s also like social media site take Facebook for example people are willing to give up their rights so they can be on Facebook and be able to look or post whatever they want. But just like ever website the owner of that site has a right to delete what they don’t want on it as well. So why can’t the FBI/CIA look into and potentially stop a homegrown extremist from attacking the nation or even just attacking schools, churches, and retail stores like the mall or Wal-Mart. All these locations have had attacks from violent extremist when if they were being watched or monitored those attacks could have been stopped or at least less death could have occurred. From a political and constitutional stand point, consequences of counter-terrorism can vary.  I political stand is to protect and preserve the freedom for the people. Protecting one’s Constitutional rights depends on what the politician’s plans on policies and procedures that could begin to take away those civil rights that were granted and give people the sense of freedom that the nation is built on. Policies and procedures can change everything take the mask wearing and social distancing for Covid-19, you have the people that are okay with it all and are following the rules but then you have the ones that have been protesting or fighting people over the fact that they don’t want to wear a mask. To me personally it’s simple to wear a mask but to others it’s a reason of rights being taken away by mandating it. Working for the military and DHS I personally don’t see freedom and security as a tradeoff. If agencies do their jobs correctly and protect the United States and National Security then freedom wouldn’t be at stake. I believe in freedom but the security measures in place are to help protect that freedom, without the security measures the nation would be under attack like 9/11 or worse.

2. The internal terrorist threat in the United States is operational and complicated, with continuing threats from extreme left- and right-wing extremist groups and radicalization and recruitment efforts by international terrorist groups. Since Sept/11, our nation’s entire security measures and agencies have been revamped and stricter in all levels of government. The intelligence community is significantly restricted in its ability to monitor or participate in domestic political groups secretly. The FBI is this nation’s domestic intelligence agency accountable for managing domestic terrorism, but the FBI does not report to the ODNI. I think the ODNI and the FBI should cooperate, and it may help fill in the gap where one organization cannot. The all around structure of government, by circumscribing coercive activities that might occur within the United States, protects the liberty of citizens in the United States, including foreign persons who are not lawful permanent residents. Take this for example, the military is hemmed in by strict legal rules that significantly reduce its authority to operate domestically and help preserve liberty at home. Many of the political drawbacks of counterterrorism efforts are inadvertent or unimportant. However, some pessimistic spectators might question that governments, predominantly officials of the executive branch, influence the danger of terrorism to magnify their dominances. Many provisions of the Patriot Act were set to conclude at the end of 2005 and, despite opposition from across the political spread and more than 400 state and community resolutions expressing concern about the Patriot Act, Congress reauthorized the law without reforming its most flawed provisions to bring these extraordinary powers back in line with the Constitution. The civil rights and civil liberties of all American citizens, including Arab Americans, African Americans ,Muslim Americans, and Americans from South Asia, must be protected. Every effort must be taken to preserve their safety. This announcement possibly bestows a worry between national security and the individual liberty of American citizens. It could be contended that the apparent mention to Americans of Arab, Muslim, and South Asian descent exemplifies that their security and civil liberties are under threat, not only from terrorists but possibly from fellow citizens and even the government elected to defend them.

Adolescent pregnancy is viewed as a high-risk situation because it poses serious health risks for the mother and the baby. Describe various risk factors or precursors to adolescent pregnancy.

 Topic 3 DQ 1

The United States has the highest rate of adolescent pregnancies in the developed world. Adolescent pregnancy can have adverse effects and is an important public health concern, (Fisher,C. et.al.2020).

Adolescent pregnancies are worldwide and contributes to increased fetal and maternal complications. There is a high risk of preterm labor, post-partum hemorrhage, low birth weight, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR)pre-eclampsia, higher rate for cesarean sections and gestational diabetes. Precursors to adolescent pregnancies includes, lack of positive family interactions, family history of teen moms, poverty, and poor school performance. Pregnant adolescents have a lower social health security and a low rate of receiving prenatal care. Nutrition is also a major risk factor; adolescents are concerned about their appearance and figures when their body image changes it results in inadequate nutritional intake this can lead to anorexia or bulimia. An increase in obstetrical and neonatal complications is tobacco and alcohol consumption, low socioeconomic levels, and low social support, (Pregnancy in Adolescence,2020).

In the state of Georgia there are numerous programs for adolescent moms, 1. Family First, an Atlanta based program that originated in 1890 as an orphanage and has expanded into a youth for success program providing major key services to overcome life’s changes to aide in reaching positive goals. The program also provides solutions to vulnerable populations. In addition, services are offered to support underserved youths by furnishing counseling services, health and wellness education, and parenting classes, (A New Vision for the Future, 2020)

  1. Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia, (HMHBGA), this organization offers prenatal education to expectant families who are at higher risk for poor births and post delivery outcomes. Other services they provide are community based prenatal and educational information to mothers throughout Georgia. Young mothers are given information on family planning, breastfeeding, sudden infant death syndrome, (SIDS)and prevention of maternal mental health, (HMHBGA, Prenatal Education,2019).

In Georgia teen birth rates have declined 74% between 1991 and 2019. In 2019 7,090 teens gave birth, and most teen births were between the ages of 18-19 making up 75%. In addition, 16% of teen births were to moms who already had children. Teen births for all racial and ethnic groups has fallen. According to The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy states that the decrease in birth rates is contributed to teens waiting to have sex, teens having fewer sexual partners, more teens using contraception, and preventive education, (Teen Pregnancy Prevention,2017)

Respond to the above posting using 200-300 words APA format with references to support the discussion.

Adolescent pregnancy is viewed as a high-risk situation because it poses serious health risks for the mother and the baby. Describe various risk factors or precursors to adolescent pregnancy. Research community and state resources devoted in adolescent pregnancy and describe at least two of these resources. Research the teen pregnancy rates for the last 10 years for your state and community. Has this rate increased or decreased? Discuss possible reasons for an increase or decrease.

Reviewing the concepts of ethnic conflict and totalitarianism:

Often students are confused on what constitutes an ethnic conflict. Before you select a topic for this assignment, be sure to review the information below to gain a better understanding of what constitutes Totalitarianism and ethnic conflict.

Totalitarianism and ethnic conflict are not the same as violent act committed by a police officer that was officially deemed as being racially motivated. Ethnic conflict is when government has discriminatory policies in place. Slavery and segregation were examples of ethnic conflict. Many students confuse recent events of violence or shooting by police officers on individuals as examples of ethnic conflict. However, not all of those actions were acts of racially motivated violence.  In addition, they were committed by individuals in the execution of their job, which are subject to review and oversight (administrative and legal), and if deemed excessive and/or racially motivated, will be sanctioned and prosecuted because they would go against standing policies and laws that do not allow excessive force in the execution of police duties or racially motivated violence against others (by police or any other person). In the 1960s and earlier, we had state governments requiring African Americans to be segregated. This was an example of ethnic conflict. We do not have government policy in this country today promoting the harassment or killing of people because of their race.

If a person kills another person, it is a legal issue. If the killing took place because of the race of the person, it is also a hate crime. It is not designated as ethnic conflict. Topics centered on racial inequity such as Black Lives Matter, while important and viable topics in the context of race relations and social justice, are not the same as ethnic conflict in Totalitarian regimes and so are not appropriate topics for this assignment.

Explain the Administrative Role of a Federal Agency

Instructions

This week’s assigned readings highlight the significant influence the federal government has on not only social behavior, but on virtually every major aspect of American life in some way, shape, or form. For this assignment, assume you are a graduate-level teaching assistant for a freshman-level Public Administration 101 course at a traditional ‘brick and mortar’ state university. This week’s class lecture will focus on the vast span of the federal government’s regulatory responsibilities are through administrative law.

Your task is to develop a concise narrated PowerPoint presentation for a class of 45-50 undergraduate students illustrating this vast regulatory reach within ONE of the following sectors: agriculture, banking, communications, education, energy, environment protection, health care, homeland security, immigration, justice, or transportation. Please note that you may further refine your selection by examining a specific sub-section of a particular sector. For example, you could highlight the management of federal prisons nation-wide via the Department of Justice’s agency-level Bureau of Prisons or maritime security via the U.S. Coast Guard within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

  • Begin your presentation by identifying what particular federal department or agency has the primary regulatory management functions for your chosen sector. Indicate the size of the department/agency you are highlighting and provide a brief historical background.
  • Explain what the most critical regulatory rulemaking functions are performed by this department/agency today and to what extent it has discretion in implementing its assigned regulatory functions/policies.
  • Identify at least two examples of recent controversial or high-profile regulatory, policy, or procedural issues that have thrust this department/agency into the national spotlight. Then, explain the significance and potential impact of each issue to the American public at-large. Specify how this department/agency should strive for public service accountability.

Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as speaker notes for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists and should cite material appropriately. Add audio to each slide using the Media section of the Insert tab in the top menu bar for each slide.

Support your presentation with at least five scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included.

Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide)
Notes Length: 200-350 words for each slide

Be sure to include citations for quotations and paraphrases with references in APA format and style where appropriate. Save the file as PPT with the correct course code information.

RESPONSE 1:

This week we are tasked with researching different malware attacks that are notorious and talk about one. I have chosen to talk about the Zeus trojan virus that was first seen in 2007. Zeus is a malware that is a trojan virus and is also known as ZBOT. Zeus targets Microsoft windows operating systems. Since 2007 Zeus has infected more than 3.6 million computers in the United States alone not including other countries. There are two main ways Zeus targets a computer one is through spam messages. The other way that Zeus targets computers is trough drive-by downloads. While Zeus can do many things if it is infecting a computer there are two major functions that most hackers use it for. One is to setup botnets and the other is to steal financial information form infected devices. The way it steals financial information is by keystroke logging and monitoring bank websites for credentials. Botnets are used to control a huge amount of computers in order to carry out large attacks. One attack I can think of that a Botnet would be useful for is a DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service Attack) attack. A man named Hamza Bendelladj was responsible for creating Zeus and he was arrested in 2013 and charged with 15 years of prison time. This also include millions of dollars in fines that he was also given for his many accounts of cyber crimes he committed.

RESPONSE 2:

The malware I found most interesting made its appearance in 2017 as a self-replicating encryptor. The creators of this malware took advantage of a vulnerability in the Microsoft security before a later update. By utilizing this exploit, WannaCry could easily gain remote access to computers in order to install the encryption. Traditionally, encryptors gain access to and infect computers by part of the user who clicks on the suspicious link or downloads some type of attachment from an email that might not even appear suspicious at first glance because it’s using something known to the user to disguise itself. However, WannaCry was able to affect over 45,000 computers in just one day becauase of the fact that the user doesn’t need to do anything to allow the infection to occur. WannaCry detects the hole in the security and forces entry onto the machine. It then attempts to spread throughout the local network like a computer worm by scanning computers on the network to detect the same vulnerability. This was extremely damaging for any large networks because of the amount of machines that were compromised almost in an instant. WannaCry encrypts different types of files like documents, photos, videos, etc. that could potentially be of importance to the user and then renames those files to .WCRY, making them inaccessible to the user. Then the desktop wallpaper is changed to a picture that contains information about the malware and what the user must do in order to gain access to their files and computer again. This will typically include a demand for money to be transferred to the perpetrator in the form of bitcoin which cannot be traced to them, with an expiration date or time limit. In total, Wanna Cry has infect3ed more than 200,000 computers in 74 different countries. It was found in those 74 different countries within the first day. The malware author of WannaCry was never discovered. However, the malware can only effect computers which have not been updated unless a user takes some action to allow for the infection to occur like opening a link or downloading an attachment which would override the patch to fix the security.

Discourses and mushroom model

As we have been discussing in class, discourses are settings that come with an expected set of behaviors, in order to function within the discourse. Another distinguishing feature of discourses is that they require an identity kit required to validate membership within the discourse, which may include a dress code, a specialized vocabulary, etc. For example, a college classroom is a discourse where, in order to adapt and function, one must manifest certain behaviors, such as respect for peers, teachers and you might even have an “identity kit” of a note taking-device, etc. to prove you are a member. Our classroom also constitutes a discourse because we have vocabulary that’s specific to us—memo, “business report”, “executive summary”, etc.

Most importantly, everything we observe in a discourse is indicative of a value system and/or a set of goals. In other words, most everything that occurs within a given discourse is a reflection of the deeply-rooted, goals or values around which the discourse is clustered. And, it is fairly safe to say that discourses are the way that they are because they have some kind of goal. Discourses will often be significantly different from each other. For example, the discourse of a classroom will be different than the discourse of a place of worship, which will be different than the discourse of a night out with friends.

For the sake our business course, we are interested in the discourse of a workplace. It is important to be aware of (and possibly adapt to) the discourse of the professional settings where we will engage, in order to navigate daily operations within that discourse. Just like the how the personalities of companies will differ, the discourses (value systems, goals, expected behavior, required identity kit) will also differ.

Your Task

This assignment will require that you do some firsthand research and observe a workplace or a classroom setting (though not this one) and write an analysis of the discourse or “culture” of the setting.

Please begin your analysis with a mushroom model, based on our class discussions. Remember our analogy of the mushroom—the part of the organism above the soil is quite small when compared to the vast network of roots below the soil.

I would like you to write two to three pages, detailing what you observe to be the discourse of this setting. Some things you should be looking for and integrating into your analysis:

·      Vocabulary—Is there a set of vocabulary one would have to know to function in this setting

·      Behaviors—How should people in this discourse conduct themselves? Is it an easygoing environment? Is it a bit more conservative? What’s the general mood like?

·      Dress-code—What kind of uniform(if any) would one need to navigate this discourse? Is there a formal dress-code that’s upheld? Is it a more causal atmosphere where formal dress would be laughed at?

·      Modes of Communication How does the culture of the setting influence communication? For example, if the workplace is fairly traditional, with hierarchies clearly designated, how does that influence how we might communicate with our boss? Consider things like medium, formality, tone, etc.

·      Feel free to list any other observations you make about what will comprise the “identity kit” that’s needed in order to exist within this discourse.

·      Most importantly, for every observation you make, or consistent pattern you observe, be asking why? Beneath everything you see, try and think about what values the observation is a reflection of.  What does this discourse value? How do things like the dress-code, the vocabulary, the expected behavior reflect these values or goals?

You may use a workplace you where you currently or have previously worked or you can use one that you have no part of but may be interested in.

I have attach 2 examples. Read it.
