Benchmark Assignment – Training and Development

Training and development prompts change within an organization. The goal of training is to identify areas for improvement and to develop growth opportunities that support the employees in their professional career.

For this assignment, you are required to develop a small training exercise in the form of a PowerPoint presentation. Review previous needs assessments and training observations conducted at your workplace to help identify one area for improvement that would benefit your organization. This training exercise does not need to be implemented but should include at least one deliverable that you could use during the training exercise. As you are reviewing your organization, consider employee engagement, systems and procedures, communication, resources, succession planning, and the culture within the organization. These are suggestions for possible areas that could benefit from a training exercise.

Create an 8-10 slide PowerPoint presentation of your training exercise, with speaker notes, and include the following:

  • What are the overall goals for the training or the benefit to the selected organization?
  • What are two specific objectives for the training exercise?
  • What processes or procedures will change after the training has been completed?
  • Describe the strategies or actions involved in the training exercise to meet the established goals and objectives. What is the expected employee performance or application after the training? How will the strategies drive successful business results and improve employee performance?
  • How will the organization provide support to the current employees receiving this training? To new employees? How will the effectiveness of the training exercise be measured to confirm the anticipated improvement of employee performance?

While APA style format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Align your unit to a 6-12 grade level ELA standard from the Arizona or another state academic content standards.

Design the unit plan to include:

  • National/State Learning Standards: Select standards that address reading, writing, speaking, and listening integration skills.
  • Multiple Means of Representation: Select strategies that allow opportunities to develop oral and written language for students with disabilities. Incorporate individual abilities, interests, learning environments, and cultural and linguistic factors in the section.
  • Multiple Means of Engagement: Select strategies to enhance language development and communication skills.
  • Multiple Means of Expression: Use technically sound formal and informal assessment.
  • Extension Activity and/or Homework: Incorporate activities that include critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • In the Differentiation rows of the unit plan template focus on the three students you selected.

Part 2: Rationale

In 250-500 words rationale at the bottom of your unit plan, explain the following:

  • How literacy skills from your lesson plan will be helpful for students in other content areas.
  • How communication and language arts strategies prepare students and provide them strategies to be successful academically and personally across multiple settings with a variety of collaborators (e.g., individuals, families, and teams).

Discussion

Whistle-blowing: Harder Than It Looks?

R.U. Kidding, the comptroller for Rocket Man Enterprises, a government defense contractor, has a delicate ethical issue on his hands. In the course of his employment, Kidding has uncovered evidence that seems to indicate that Rocket Man has been overbilling the government for a weapons system project. Under its contract with the government, Rocket Man was supposed to calculate its hourly rate with a formula dividing charges between the more expensive work done directly in their offices and the less costly hourly labor performed by subcontractors. What Rocket Man did was simple: they billed subcontractor work at the higher in-house rate.

R.U. Kidding, realizing that the weapons system project is the lifeblood of Rocket Man, is at a loss as to what he should do with the information he has uncovered. On the one hand he feels he has a duty to bring this wrongdoing to light. After all, he reasons, there is the greater public interest and common good to consider. On the other hand, the project is so critical to the financial future of the Company that the disclosure of wrongdoing could be devastating for the Company and its employees, many of whom are R.U.’s colleagues and friends. If you were in R.U.’s shoes, what would you do and why?  What specifically are the ethical dilemma and the related ethical issues for R.U.? Identify and discuss the relevant stakeholders for Kidding and his Company.

ERM week 7

Risk management is one of the most important components in empowering an organization to achieve its ultimate vision. With proper risk management culture and knowledge, team members will be “speaking” the same language, and they will leverage common analytical abilities to identify and mitigate potential risks as well as exploit opportunities in a timely fashion. In order to consolidate efforts, the existence of an integrated framework is crucial.

This is why an ERM is necessary to the fulfillment of any organization’s goals and objectives. In your final research project for the course, your task is to write a 7-10 page paper discussing the following concepts:

Introduction – What is an ERM?

Why Should an Organization Implement an ERM Application?

What are some Key Challenges and Solutions to Implementing an ERM?

What is Important for an Effective ERM?

Discuss at least one real organization that has been effective with implementing an ERM framework/application.

Conclusion – Final thoughts/future research/recommendation

The paper needs to be approximately 7-10 pages long, including both a title page and a references page (for a total of 9-12 pages). Be sure to use proper APA formatting and citations to avoid plagiarism.

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

Be approximately seven to ten pages in length, not including the required cover page and reference page.

Follow APA7 guidelines. Your paper should include an introduction, a body with fully developed content, and a conclusion.

Support your answers with the readings from the course, the course textbook, and at least FIVE scholarly journal articles to support your positions, claims, and observations, in addition to your textbook.

Be clearly and well-written, concise, and logical, using excellent grammar and style techniques. You are being graded in part on the quality of your writing.

NEED IN 7 HOURS or LESS

The Super Bowl is being played in your city. With it comes an influx of fans, the media, and support personnel for the National Football League (NFL) from across the nation and the world, which brings with it the potential for illicit crimes such as prostitution (human trafficking), narcotics, and gambling.

1) You are the state attorney for the jurisdiction where the Super Bowl will be hosted and played, and you are appointed to keep these crimes from becoming issues, especially in this current election year.

2) Select one of the three crimes listed, or develop your own. Discuss what actions you would take along with local police agencies to combat these impending issues.

ANSWER THE ABOVE DISCUSSION AND THEN REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE’S POST. EXPLAINING WHY YOU AGREE WITH HIS POST. (A MINIMUM OF 200 WORDS EACH)

                                                     CLASSMATE’S POST

The Super Bowl brings in massive amounts of money to the host city and state.  Along with this major economic boost brings in many illicit crimes specifically human trafficking.  As the state attorney to protect those within my jurisdiction it would require massive amounts of logistical planning and communications with the Federal Government, local and state law enforcement, and all the nonprofit organizations.  Requesting the assistance from the Department of Homeland Security weeks in advance would help early detection possibly deter influencers. I refer to influencers as the pop-up talent or modeling agencies or any nonprofit that is recruiting certain demographics like age 16-30 leading up to the event.  Furthermore, there would be further training conducted with all local business employees (hotels, restaurants, public transportation, etc.) on how to detect possibly human traffickers or victims of trafficking.  This would include how to report, inquire, and alert law enforcement officers if they feel a crime is being committed.  Additionally, we would work with local media outlets discussing and broadcasting what potential human traffickers look like or what businesses could be a front for illegal activity.  These efforts would showcase our commitment to the safety and well being of not only our guests but the local citizens.

COMP 2 ETHNOGRAHY PAPER (EDUCATION)

 Instructions: Ethnography Paper  ASSIGNMENT

In an original paper of at least 1,500 words , write an ethnography of a subculture, group, or community related to your theme.  A group constitutes more than two individuals.  This is largely an informative paper; the goal of the ethnography is to present observations, information, and research on the subculture as a means for educating your audience about the subculture.

Ultimately, an ethnography should answer this question:  What does studying this group of individuals reveal about group dynamics, culture, and/or human behavior? Like a documentary film, an ethnography tells the story of a group of people.  You may choose an online subculture or an on-campus/community subculture, but the subculture must be a group of individuals whom you can observe and study this semester.  Ethnography is concerned with humans and human behavior.   An ethnography is similar to telling a story; like a documentary film, and ethnography will attempt to provide a “behind the scenes” look at a group of individuals.  Like a story, an ethnography often has a setting (like a workplace, for example) and characters (the real people comprising the group).  Consider the sample Ethnography papers posted in Canvas as examples of this type of writing.

GOALS OF THE ASSIGNMENT

1.  Analyze an assignment prompt and develop a strategy for responding to the prompt;

2.  Craft an effective thesis statement that provides focus for an academic paper;

 3.  Use writing to show evidence of critical thinking;

 4.  Use ethical field research and firsthand observation methods to gather information;

5.  Express intellectually stimulating ideas using clear, grammatically correct prose; 6.  Practice using first-person point-of-view in an objective, unbiased manner.

Your paper should include:

1.   An introductory paragraph and thesis statement.  The introduction should identify the subculture you are investigating.  The thesis statement should focus the paper and indicate, in a single sentence, the most significant characteristics of the subculture.

 2.   Body paragraphs with topic sentences.  The body of the paper should address specific characteristics of the subculture.  You may address how the members of the subculture interact with each other, the types of discourse and language used by members of the group, the beliefs and values shared by the group, specific cultural characteristics of the group (including dress, domestic customs, daily activities, involvement with the broader community, festivals and celebrations, etc.), and the organizational structure of the group/community.

 3.   Information based on observation and/or interviews with a member or members of the subculture.

4.   In-text citations as needed and a correctly formatted APA References page.

5.   A conclusion that discusses the implications of your findings and/or discusses how the study of this group relates to broader social/cultural issues.

  6.   A correctly formatted APA title page, including a paper title.  An abstract is not required.

RESEARCH

Your final draft must cite and make reference to at least 5 credible sources.

At least one source must be an interview.  You may either conduct an interview yourself or use a published interview, conducted by someone else, to meet this requirement.  Your goal should be to conduct or locate an interview with a member of the group you are studying.   You are welcome to include additional sources and references as needed.  Consider field research methods described in Chapter 11 of the Palmquist textbook.

Market Profile

Scenario

While the organization is not losing money, leadership would like to explore options to continue to grow. One option that leadership has noticed competitors attempting is entering international markets.

You have been asked to examine the benefits, drawbacks, and key considerations for your organization to enter one of the global markets below, and summarize your findings in a business brief for leadership.

Continue to use your selected market from Milestone One. As a reminder, the options for international markets are:

  • Republic of Korea
  • Canada
  • Germany

If you would like to use another country for your final project please reach out to your instructor.

Prompt

In this milestone, you will continue to use the Business Brief Template (located in the Guidelines for Submission section of this document). Market Considerations: Discuss the legal and regulatory considerations in your selected market that can impact business decisions regarding expansion to new global markets. You should also consider corporate social responsibility for each market consideration.

  1. Legal and Regulatory Considerations: Compare and contrast important legal and regulatory requirements of your selected market against those in the domestic market, including trade restrictions, regulations of products or services, legal processes for business transactions, and import restrictions or documentation.

Guidelines for Submission

Template: Business Brief
Submit the template as a 500- to 650-word Microsoft Word document. Based on your milestones, you should have Sections One and Two completed, as well as the Legal and Regulatory Considerations portion of Section Three. Sources should be cited according to APA style.
