Option #1: Global Outsourcing

There are some who believe that outsourcing has been a boom to the American consumer as product and service prices have been lowered considerably based on the use of cheaper foreign labor. Others believe that it has devastated the American worker as jobs have been outsourced to foreign countries whose wages, again, and much cheaper. At the center of this circumstance is the human resource professional, who is charged with assembling and managing a motivated workforce in the most effective and efficient manner. Write a paper that addresses the following:

· Discuss the scope and impact of the outsourcing of US jobs to countries who can produce similar goods/services as the US worker but with much lower wages and, therefore, costs.

· Assess the role human resources plays within an organization in determining whether products/services should be produced/manufactured in either the US (domestic country) or a foreign country.

· Finally, assess the role and responsibility that human resources should undertake to provide US workers with a greater sense of security in their employment. In other words, what specific strategies or tactics should a human resource department take to better ensure US employees remain employed within their organization rather than losing their job to lower-paid foreign workers.

Your paper should be:

· 5 pages in length, not including title and reference pages (which are required). Include a formal references page.

· Formatted and cited according to the APA

· Supported by at least three scholarly sources

Investigate Theories of Early Childhood Development

Instructions

Create a PowerPoint presentation for new early childhood teachers within your district to be shared at a professional development seminar. Be sure to include the following:

  • Explain how early childhood education theories help teachers to understand the early childhood learner. Provide specific examples for your audience.
  • Indicate how teachers can utilize specific theories during instruction (e.g., how can teachers utilize Piaget’s cognitive development theories to better design instruction for their age group).
  • Use a minimum of three theories for this assignment.
  • Use the resources listed above under videos and book(s) for this week to provide support and evidence for this assignment

Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as speaker notes for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists. Keep in mind, the purpose of this assignment is to help teachers better understand how to utilize theory in order to better design classroom environments and curriculum tailored to their age group.

Support your presentation with at least two scholarly resources (i.e., journal articles). In addition to the journal articles and specified resources for this week, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included.

Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide)

Notes Length: 80-100 words for each slide

Be sure to include citations for quotations and paraphrases with references in APA format and style where appropriate. Save the file as PPT with the correct course code information.

Developing Supply Chain Tactical Flexibility

1 – How does lengthening or shortening lead time commitments lead to opportunities to improve capacity utilization and throughput?

  Operations Management Readings: Strategic Sourcing

  Section 1 – Introduction

2 – What is the difference between ‘out-sourcing’ and ‘off-shoring’? Why do firms ‘out-source’? What are some of the specific issues this raises? Pick one and describe more fully why this is a challenge?

3 – Review the section, ‘An Overview of Strategic Sourcing Decisions’. What are the challenges in determining whether to ‘make’ or ‘buy’? Provide an example to demonstrate pros and cons of each approach.

   Section 2 – Essential Reading

4 – Use either the Apple or Crocs case study. Pick one purchased input, that is something that is currently ‘bought’. Assign it to one of the quadrants in the Kraljic Matrix. Justify why it is there. Recommend either keeping it there or moving it to a different quadrant. Justify your recommendation.

  Section 3 – A Primer on Make-or-Buy Research

5 – Review the section, ‘Competing on Core Competencies’. How do core competencies influence the ‘make-or-buy’ decision?

6- Review the section, ‘Transaction Cost Economics’. What are transaction costs? How does ‘asset specificity’ relate to an organization’s core competencies? How do ‘bounded rationality’ and ‘opportunism’ influence the decision of whether to make or buy?

7 – Read the article, ‘Aligning Incentives in Supply Chains’. What are some of the incentive problems that firms face? How can they address or prevent incentive problems? Provide a specific example that illustrates the incentive problem and how your recommendation would address it.

Contemporary Issues Project (CIP)

The Contemporary Issues Project is an online student presentation that will cover a contemporary issue in human resource management. A list of suggested topics can be found below. These are just suggested topics. Please feel free to choose another topic. If you would like to email me to check if your topic is appropriate, that would be fine. It is okay if more than one student examines the same topic.

These presentations should be composed in PowerPoint, with slides that highlight the main points of your topic. The notes section below each slide will elaborate on the content of the slide. The notes section should reflect what would be said in a live presentation to the class. Presentations should consist of about 11-13 slides. After your presentation slides, please include a slide listing your references.

You will be graded on providing original information from outside the course, your analytical thinking about the issue and the clarity and creativity in how the ideas are presented. Your project might examine: what the issue is, why the issue is important, how this issue relates to concepts/theories from class, how the issue affects employees, whether there are any new developments to this issue beyond what we’ve discussed in the course (i.e. new laws, new court cases, recent events), management implications for dealing with the issue, etc.

Topic 10 DQ 1

Nurses and health care professionals continue to research and provide evidence-based practice material to improve on patient care, satisfaction, and over all better health outcomes. The Mayo Clinic has long been a trusted resource for the newest advancements in the medical industry. Mayo Clinic Proceedings is one of the nation’s largest-circulation medical journals published monthly. Being one of the premier peer-reviewed clinical journals in general medicine, it is among the most widely read and highly cited scientific publication for physicians. Continuously published since 1926, Mayo Clinic Proceeding’s content includes Nobel-prize-winning research and is ranked #13 of 165 journals in the Medicine, General, and Internal category. Mayo Clinic Proceedings has been instrumental in clinical and laboratory medicine, health care policy and economics, medical education, and ethics changes. (“Journals and Publications,” 2021)

By publishing my change project with this journal, I believe it would reach a target audience and allow the health care industry to witness the importance of mental and psychological issues that nurses and health care professionals are facing after caring for Covid-19 patients during the pandemic.

Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas hosts a medical conference every year to bring valuable information to the health care professionals in this area. Presenting my change project at this conference would allow me an opportunity to share this valuable information with health care professionals across our region. The Rio Grande Valley consist of 4 counties and this conference is well attended by others representing their hospitals and health facilities. By sharing my information and presentation with each of these entities the information would reach a large audience. By sharing the importance of mental and psychological wellness for nurses and health care professionals this may bring about changes in many aspects of the health care industry from nurse-to-patient ratios, visitation policies, and other work-related stressors.

Evidence-based results dissemination is a critical step needed in the implementation of EBP. It usually involves presenting the results to a targeted public health or clinical practice audience” (Choi, 2005). This promotes the spread of knowledge about the EBP and enhances its application and patients care and outcome. If one were to publish and present a project, I would like to present it at the American Nurses Association conference and publish it in the American Nurses Association’s Online Journal of Issues in Nursing. It is a widespread belief that ANA and OJIN are the best options to disseminate new knowledge because millions of nurses can assess them. It is known for its reliability and validity in nursing research. Also, “OJIN is a peer-reviewed, online publication that addresses current topics affecting nursing practice, research, education, and the wider health care sector” (The American Nurses Association 2017). In addition, OJIN allows for further or additional submission of manuscripts related to already posted topics, enhancing furtherance of research studies, experiences and revealing any new evidence about the topic.

Assignment 09.1: Economic Credentialing

HA4070D – Regulatory Environment in Health Care

Assignment 09.1: Economic Credentialing

Directions

Complete the Problem beginning on page 463 of your text titled “Problem: Economic Credentialing” in a one to two page paper. Submit the completed assignment to your instructor. See page 369 for a general description of Marcus Welby Hospital.

You are the lawyer for Marcus Welby Community Hospital. The administrator approaches you about how to amend the bylaws so that the hospital can get rid of doctors who are costing the hospital too much money under Medicare and HMO insurance. The administrator is concerned about which removal actions can be defended in court and which bylaw amendments are politically feasible with physicians. Advise the administrator on each of these options:

• Amend the Hospital Bylaws to give the hospital board authority to remove doctors from the medical staff for any reason, regardless of the medical staff’s own recommendations, as long as the medical staff is first consulted.

• Amend the Medical Staff Bylaws to declare that an additional criterion for medical staff membership is to practice an efficient style of medicine that avoids wasting medical resources or providing unnecessary care.

• Forget about amending any bylaws. Instead, go after physicians who are economic losers based on their general medical competence and their unwillingness to be cooperative.

• Keep but supplant the entire medical staff structure by limiting who can practice in each department through one-year renewable contracts with the 200 best doctors out of the present 300.

Note that the assignment asks you to comment on each of the options, not just one. You may comment on one option being better than another for some reason, but be sure to comment on all the options. Support your advice with material from the text.

Racism: Past and Present

To Prepare

  • Review the assigned essays from the text by Adams et al.
  • Review the Required Media—the podcast and the video—in the Learning Resources this week.
  • Research and select a historical event—older than 5 years—as it relates to racism. This can be any event you believe is important in understanding racism in the U.S.
  • Research and select a current event—within the past 12 months—as it relates to racism. This can be any event you believe is important in understanding racism in the U.S.

Submit a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:

Describe the historical event and how it exposes racism, either overtly or through more subtle actions due to the systemic nature of the problem. Please include the following in your description:

  • Overview of the event, including the general time period, inciting incident, and parties involved.
  • Outcome of the event, including any major social or political changes as a result.
  • Connection to social work, either through its  impact on ongoing research in the field or on the treatment of populations.

Describe the current event and how it exposes racism, either overtly or through more subtle actions due to the systemic nature of the problem. Please include the following in your description:

  • Overview of the event, including the time period, inciting incident, and parties involved.
  • Outcome of the event, including any major social or political changes as a result (if there is no immediate outcome, share possible or proposed outcomes).
  • Connection to social work, either through its impact on ongoing research in the field or on the treatment of populations.

Then, compare the two events. Consider the following to help guide your comparison:

  • How were the causes of the two events similar?
  • How were the causes of the two events different?
  • Did the outcome of the historical event have any positive impacts on the response to the current event? If not, explain how the systemic nature of racism may have played a role in this lack of      progress.
  • How have both events impacted social work? Explain how the profession may have responded differently in each time period.
  • How would you rate U.S. social and political progress toward addressing systemic racism based on these two events?

APA Format. Please use all sources within the paper. Conclusion of paper the overall paper at the end.

Behavior Plan & Presentation

For this assignment, you will be assuming the role of a special educator and will create a behavior plan. As you have read in the Instructor Guidance and throughout this course, a behavior plan

  • Provides more intensive intervention and monitoring.
  • Increases support around the student’s specific needs.
  • Provides an individualized behavior plan which becomes part of the individualized education program (IEP).
  • Addresses targeted issues in a specific functional and evidence-based manner.
  • Involves active collaboration with teachers, support staff, the student, and parents.
  • Helps teachers to address behaviors and issues consistently across subjects, rooms, and sessions.

Bridging this real-life experience with the theories of instruction in the virtual course environment, this assignment mirrors a career building experience.

Instructions: Using support from your assigned reading, the Instructor Guidance, and the discussions, submit the following for evaluation.

In previous coursework, you have learned about the process of developing an IEP and the participation of a multidisciplinary team to, in part, plan and develop key goals around the student’s areas of strengths and weaknesses. It is important to access previous video examples, discussions, and other coursework as you develop this plan. You have been collecting these web addresses in your link-library. This would be a perfect time to access them.

In this example, you will focus on one document that is written by the team and that will become part of the student’s IEP. This document, known as the Behavior Plan, specifically identifies and addresses behaviors considered to be inappropriate and/or dangerous. It is a plan that changes the environment to shape a student’s behavior in a positive manner. Replacement behaviors are then identified and designed for the purpose of changing the inappropriate behaviors to something more appropriate. Also included in this plan are positive behavioral interventions, strategies, and supports.

Use the below guidelines and attached rubric to create the Behavior Plan. If you have questions about the assignment or the rubric, please contact your Instructor using the Ask Your Instructor discussion before the due date.

Content Expectations: (Note: There are two parts to this assignment.)

Part One: Using the rubric attached, complete the attached Positive Behavior Intervention Plan downloadto include:

  • Demographic information
  • Prevention: Environmental factors and necessary changes
  • Alternatives: Functional factors and new functionally-equivalent behaviors to teach and support
  • Effective reaction: Reactive strategies to positively promote change
  • Outcome: Measurable behavioral goals and analysis
  • Communication: Communication provisions
  • Participation: List the collaborative participants in plan development

Part Two: Narrative—Submit a separate document that includes the following:

  • Terms:Describe the target behavior to be addressed in this plan using observable terms to describe.
  • Relevancy: Analyze how the process of creating a behavior plan is relevant to your current profession or future professional goals.
  • Reflection:Reflect on the process of creating a behavior plan. Include elements of observation, collaboration, parent engagement, and student input.

The Behavior Plan

  • Must be one to two double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Writing Center (Links to an external site.).
  • Must include a separate title page with the following:
    • Title of paper
    • Student’s name
    • Course name and number
    • Instructor’s name
    • Date submitted
  • Must document all sources in APA style as outlined in the Writing Center.
  • Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Writing Center.
