Module 7 Assignment

Final Research Paper.          (Topic :Ethical dilemma during a pandemic)

introductory paragraph: The Covid 19 pandemic has had a big impact on the world in different spheres: political, social, and economic. The world’s population has been greatly impacted, the healthcare sector is amongst the most negatively impacted, including hospitals (as businesses), and employees helping patients recover from the virus. This pandemic has cast a spotlight on the need for ventilators and their importance to hospitals because of their function.

During a pandemic, health systems have a duty to steward scarce resources. This principle, broadly endorsed in the US, requires that resources be allocated efficiently to maximize the number of patients that receive the necessary treatment to survive the virus.Achieving this can lead to ethically fraught decisions. Experts state that “because maximizing benefits is paramount.” “Removing a patient from a ventilator or an ICU bed to provide it to others in need is justifiable.” Similarly, the British Medical Association states that ventilators should be reallocated to patients who are reasonably believed to have the capacity to benefit quickly.

Module 12: Developing Employees through Performance Management

Module 12: Critical Thinking

Personal Development Plan (115 points)

Employee development is critical to an organization’s and an individual’s success. Throughout Chapter 8, we have reviewed information about personal development plans. We all have goals and objectives that we hope to accomplish, which will allow us to grow and develop. It is important that we create personal development plans to ensure that we are working towards achieving the goals set forth.

For this assignment, you are required to create your own development plan, which involves a short-term plan (spanning 1-2 years) and a long-term plan (spanning 3-5 years). In both your short-term plan and long-term plan, provide two development objectives, details regarding how these objectives will be acquired, the timeframe associated with skill/competency acquisition, and the type of support that you need from a professional and personal standpoint. Consider, when developing these objectives, utilizing SMART goals.

In total, your plan should incorporate four development objectives and associated details (e.g., two for the short-term plan and two for the long-term plan). Remember that the goals identified are your own. There is no right answer to the goals and objectives that you have created. Therefore, be creative in this assignment submission, while ensuring that you utilize the recommendations set forth in Chapter 8.

For more information about SMART goals, which can help you when determining your goals for this assignment, please utilize this resource: https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/smart-goals

Your well-written paper should meet the following requirements:

  • Be 6-8 pages in length. With the exception of a title page, no citations or references are required for this assignment. This should be an honest assessment of your personal and professional needs. This assignment can be written in paragraph form or it can be submitted in a bulleted format with expanded comments.
  • Applied course material concepts, principles, theories and any applicable analytical tools along with at least two scholarly peer-reviewed sources.

Review the grading rubric to see how you will be graded for this assignment.

Issues in Criminal Justice

Most of the national focus on criminal justice is on the federal criminal justice system. However, an overwhelming majority of all offenders are arrested, convicted and incarcerated at the state or local levels. As such, understanding the reality of criminal justice policies and practices at your local level are immediately more pertinent than understanding those at the federal level. Furthermore, the challenges at the local level are usually more consequential and impactful to the communities they serve.

To Prepare:

Imagine you are a consultant who was hired to research, analyze, and present a report to the police chief and mayor of a major U.S. city of your choice. Your presentation must identify the city you selected and two contemporary criminal justice policies or procedures that are challenging that city. For each policy or procedure, provide evidence-based solutions to each, including a visual representation of quantitative data relevant to each.

Some examples of policies and procedures you might select include sanctuary cities and immigration enforcement, police body cameras, anti‐terrorism, public shooters, response to civil unrest, criminal prosecution of police officers, or a different topic approved by your Instructor.

The Assignment:

Using the Walden Writing Center Course Paper Template, (ATTACHED) in 4‒5 pages, your report should include:

  • A brief (no more than 1 paragraph) introduction of two contemporary criminal justice policies or procedures that are challenging that city. Be sure to indicate the city.
  • An explanation of why the policies or procedures are challenging the city, referencing 2–3 credible resources.
  • A proposed evidence-based solution for each policy or practice that is challenging the city (each solution should be at least 1 page each).
  • A visual representation of quantitative data relevant to each solution, to demonstrate its prior success.

Film Critic

Throughout this course, you have been writing essays and  participating in discussion forums that analyze various elements of film  such as theme, cinematic techniques, and genre. It is now time to  combine those elements into a comprehensive analysis of one movie.

You will be completing this assignment in two stages. For the first  stage (1500 to 1800 words), you will analyze an entire movie. In the  second stage (300 to 600 words), you will reflect on how you analyzed  the movie as well as how your ability to analyze film in general has  evolved.

You are encouraged to incorporate writing from your Week Two and Week  Three assignments if (a) you have reflected on the instructor’s  feedback, (b) you have revised the relevant parts of the essays  accordingly, and (c) the essays discuss the same film that you discuss  here.

Stage 1: Analysis

For this stage, you will be analyzing a movie selected from the AFI’s 10 Top 10 (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.  list. The film you choose can be one that you have previously analyzed  in this course. While you are allowed to choose a film that does not  come from the AFI lists, you are strongly encouraged to email your  professor to receive approval before doing so.

The analysis portion of your paper should be 1500 to 1800 words in  length. You should analyze the film through the lens of one of the broad  theories you have learned about in class (auteur theory, genre theory,  formalist theory). Your analysis must address four main areas  (contextual information, story/plot, aesthetic choices, and  social/personal impact) and how these areas work together to develop the  theme of the movie. As you construct your analysis, assume that your  reader is not familiar with this film. Use your analysis to explain to  your reader why they should watch this film.

In addition to the film you are analyzing, you must use three scholarly sources to support your arguments. Refer to the ENG225 Research Guide in  the Ashford University Library for guidance and to locate your sources.  Cite your sources (including the feature-length film) within the text  of your paper and on the reference page. Cite your sources according to  APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..

Your analysis must address the following components (noted in bold below):

  • Contextual Information – In this area, you will provide some of the basic identifying information of the film. This includes:
    • Title
    • Director, cinematographer, major actors/actresses. Be sure to describe their roles in the overall design process.
    • Year of release
    • Type of film (blockbuster, indie, documentary, etc.)
    • Genre
  • Story/Plot – In this area, you should offer a brief  summary of the film, and then show how it was deployed in the narrative  structure of the film. Explain the difference between the film’s story  and its plot. This area can be addressed as a separate paragraph, or can  be threaded throughout your analysis of the film.
  • Aesthetic Choices – In this area, you will assess the  efficacy of specific techniques and design elements employed in the film  as they apply to the overarching narrative and theme of the film. These  elements include:
    • Mise en scène (e.g., lighting, sound, composition of frame, costuming, etc.)
    • Editing (e.g., cuts and transitions, shots used, angles, etc.)
    • Technology (i.e., analyze the impact of any notable technological  effects: film stock, targeted release venue, special effects, etc.)
  • Social/Personal Impact – In this area, you will critically address the following questions:
    • What impact did this film have on society (i.e., politically or  culturally, positive or negative)? The impact can be as major as  inspiring political or social changes or as minor as inspiring the  production of toys or lunchboxes.
    • How did society affect this film (i.e., what currents in society led to the creation of the film)?
    • If you are unable to find any information about the social impact of the film, explain the personal impact it has had on you.

Note: Not every bullet point under the four listed components will  necessarily apply to your movie. However, you will still need to discuss  each of the four main components thoroughly, which means that you may  need to explain a concept even if it can’t be directly applied to your  movie.

Your paper should be organized around a thesis statement that  clarifies what you will attempt to accomplish in your paper, and how you  will proceed. Additionally, you must conclude with a restatement of the  thesis and a conclusion paragraph. Review the Final Film Critique sample, which provides an example of a well-developed analysis as well as insight on composition.

Stage 2: Reflection

After completing your movie analysis, you will reflect on the  analysis process and how you have learned to more thoroughly analyze  film as well as how rigorous study of film enhances your development as a  student and thinker. In this 300- to 600-word reflection, review your  initial post from the “Post Your Introduction” discussion in Week One,  and consider how your ability to analyze movies has changed or grown.  Append your reflection to the analysis portion of your paper and submit  as one document. Your reflection should be personal and exploratory in  nature.

Address the following questions in your reflection:

  • What can be gained through analyzing film?
  • How has this changed the way you view movies?
  • How are you able to use film theory and criticism to find and interpret meaning in movies?
  • In what ways has this course changed your understanding of how movies are related to society?
  • What skills have you developed during this course, and how might those skills be applied to your major, profession, and/or life?

The Final Film Critique

  • Must be one document that is 1800 to 2400 words in length, comprised  of a 1500- to 1800-word film analysis and a 300- to 600-word  reflection.
  • Must include a separate title and reference page, and be formatted according to APA style as outlined in Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..
  • Must include a title page with the following:
    • Title of paper
    • Student’s name
    • Course name and number
    • Instructor’s name
    • Date submitted
  • Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.
  • Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
  • Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.
  • Must use at least three scholarly sources (reviews, articles, or  book chapters) other than the textbook to support your points. Refer to  the ENG225 Research Guide for guidance.
  • Must document all sources in APA style,

Human Pathophysiology Assignment (DO NOT PLAGIARIZE, IT MUST BE IN YOUR OWN WORDS) DO NOT ACCEPT BID IF YOU MEET BUDGET!

Write a comprehensive medical report on a disease we have studied up to this point. Be sure to include all relevant medical history, testing/diagnostics, treatment options, and recommended plan of action. Paper should be in APA format and 4 pages submitted to the Submissions Area.

Here is an example for assignment 2:
First you can introduce a patient report-case study.

“DATE OF CONSULTATION:  MM/DD/YYYY

REFERRING PHYSICIAN:  John Doe, MD
CONSULTING PHYSICIAN:  Jane Doe, MD
REASON FOR CONSULTATION:  Surgical evaluation for coronary artery disease.
HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS:  The patient is a (XX)-year-old female who has a known history of coronary artery disease.  She underwent previous PTCA and stenting procedures in December and most recently in August.  Since that time, she has been relatively stable with medical management.  However, in the past several weeks, she started to notice some exertional dyspnea with chest pain.  For the most part, the pain subsides with rest.  For this reason, she was re-evaluated with a cardiac catheterization.  This demonstrated 3-vessel coronary artery disease with a 70% lesion to the right coronary artery; this was a proximal lesion.  The left main had a 70% stenosis.  The circumflex also had a 99% stenosis.  Overall left ventricular function was mildly reduced with an ejection fraction of about 45%.  The left ventriculogram did note some apical hypokinesis.  In view of these findings, surgical consultation was requested and the patient was seen and evaluated by Dr. Doe.

PAST MEDICAL HISTORY:

1.  Coronary artery disease as described above with previous PTCA and stenting procedures.
2.  Dyslipidemia.
3.  Hypertension.
4.  Status post breast lumpectomy for cancer with followup radiation therapy to the chest.

ALLERGIES:  None.
MEDICATIONS:  Aspirin 81 mg daily, Plavix 75 mg daily, Altace 2.5 mg daily, metoprolol 50 mg b.i.d. and Lipitor 10 mg q.h.s.
SOCIAL HISTORY:  She quit smoking approximately 8 months ago.  Prior to that time, she had about a 35- to 40-pack-year history.  She does not abuse alcohol.

FAMILY MEDICAL HISTORY:  Mother died prematurely of breast cancer.  Her father died prematurely of gastric carcinoma.

REVIEW OF SYSTEMS:  There is no history of any CVAs, TIAs or seizures.  No chronic headaches.  No asthma, TB, hemoptysis or productive cough.  There is no congenital heart abnormality or rheumatic fever history.  She has no palpitations.  She notes no nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, but immediately prior to admission, she did develop some diffuse abdominal discomfort.  She says that since then, this has resolved.  No diabetes or thyroid problem.  There is no depression or psychiatric problems.  There is no musculoskeletal disorders or history of gout. There are no hematologic problems or blood dyscrasias.  No bleeding tendencies.  Again, she had a history of breast cancer and underwent lumpectomy procedures for this with followup radiation therapy.  She has been followed in the past 10 years and mammography shows no evidence of any recurrent problems.  There is no recent fevers, malaise, changes in appetite or changes in weight.

PHYSICAL EXAMINATION:  Her blood pressure is 120/70, pulse is 80.  She is in a sinus rhythm on the EKG monitor.  Respirations are 18 and unlabored. Temperature is 98.2 degrees Fahrenheit.  She weighs 160 pounds, she is 5 feet 4 inches.  In general, this was an elderly-appearing, pleasant female who currently is not in acute distress.  Skin color and turgor are good.  Pupils were equal and reactive to light.  Conjunctivae clear.  Throat is benign. Mucosa was moist and noncyanotic.  Neck veins not distended at 90 degrees.  Carotids had 2+ upstrokes bilaterally without bruits.  No lymphadenopathy was appreciated.  Chest had a normal AP diameter. The lungs were clear in the apices and bases, no wheezing or egophony appreciated.  The heart had a normal S1, S2.  No murmurs, clicks or gallops.  The abdomen was soft, nontender, nondistended.  Good bowel sounds present.  No hepatosplenomegaly was appreciated.  No pulsatile masses were felt.  No abdominal bruits were heard.  Her pulses are 2+ and equal bilaterally in the upper and lower extremities.  No clubbing is appreciated.  She is oriented x3.  Demonstrated a good amount of strength in the upper and lower extremities.  Face was symmetrical.  She had a normal gait.

IMPRESSION:  This is a (XX)-year-old female with significant multivessel coronary artery disease.  The patient also has a left main lesion.  She has undergone several PTCA and stenting procedures within the last year to year and a half.  At this point, in order to reduce the risk of any possible ischemia in the future, surgical myocardial revascularization is recommended.
PLAN:  We will plan to proceed with surgical myocardial revascularization.  The risks and benefits of this procedure were explained to the patient.  All questions pertaining to this procedure were answered.”

When in Indonesia

Bigco International Inc., a manufacturer of auto parts, recently moved the operations of one of its divisions to Indonesia.

Bigco has hired 300 workers at wages considerably below their U.S. counterparts, but consistent with the prevailing wages in Indonesia. Not only is Bigco benefiting from the lower wages, it is also able to reduce its costs further because of the conditions at the factories used for its operations (no air conditioning and poor ventilation), it can dispose of waste without any government oversight, and government inspectors are routinely given gratuities for favorable inspection reports or to otherwise grease the skids for Bigco, in accordance with the prevailing practice in that location. Bigco’s operations are in all key respects in accordance with the laws of Indonesia.

There are increased shipping costs for the auto parts as they are being made in Indonesia, but mostly for sale in the U.S. and Europe, but the labor and other savings of the Indonesion operation more than make up for the other increased costs.

You were recently hired as a senior vice-president in charge of the Indonesian operations and you are concerned about what you have seen and heard as to how the plants are being operated.  When you called a colleague in the states, he said to you “keep your mouth shut and when in Rome do as the Romans do.”

What are some of the ethical issues at play here?  Is the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act implicated here or does an exception apply?  What should you consider in charting your course of action and how would you resolve any differences?

In terms of what you have learned about ethics over the past weeks, has your perspective changed at all?  Is there one tool, concept, or approach that resonates with you and that you believe you can use in your future endeavors?

Developing Your Career Portfolio

Step One: Determine your purpose. You may want to keep a portfolio as a general documented system of achievements and professional growth, or you may have a specific reason, such as attempting to receive credit for prior learning experiences.

Step Two: Determine criteria. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Secretary’s Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS) identified skills and competencies needed for success in the workplace. They apply to all kinds of jobs in every occupational area. You may add specific criteria to this list as they apply to your situation. Like many things in life, you will want to think about what is most important to include in your portfolio. Personal qualities are highlighted in the portfolio as being essential for school and job success. Think through what you consider essential skills, competencies, and information that you want to present to others that highlight your strengths.

Step Three: Assemble your portfolio. The following list is a general guideline for the contents of your portfolio.

  1. COVER
  2. COVER LETTER
  3. COVER PAGE
  4. TITLE PAGE
  5. CONTENTS PAGE(S)
  6. INTRODUCTION
  7. LIST OF SIGNIFICANT LIFE EXPERIENCES
  8. ANALYSIS OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS
  9. INVENTORY OF INTERESTS, APTITUDES, VALUES
  10. INVENTORY OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
  11. INVENTORY OF PERSONAL QUALITIES
  12. DOCUMENTATION
  13. WORK PHILOSOPHY AND GOALS
  14. RESUME
  15. INTERVIEW PLANNING
  16. SAMPLES OF WORK
  17. SUMMARY OF TRANSCRIPTS
  18. CREDENTIALS, CERTIFICATES, WORKSHOPS
