Act of expression 1

Instructions:

Part 1: Describe yourself by describing three objects that you use every day. These objects do not have to be special or personal; they can be mundane or ordinary. Try using the statement “I am…” and other first-person clauses to describe your objects. Write at least 100 words for each object. Cody has written an example of part 1 below. You don’t have to be this poetic, however, lean in to whatever feelings you have about this object and feel free to be as creative as you can.

Example:

I am a black sea of distraction; a casket for good ideas. My stillness is only rivaled by my movement when I am awakened, but I never sleep. I am always listening, waiting to digest the delicious invitation–the signal to open portals to other worlds. I have made countless friends and enemies, mostly people I’ve never met. I have no desire to meet them, only to watch them dance for my entertainment, only to be so casually dismissed. I feel disgust, and shame, and envy, and joy, and excitement, and disappointment, and loneliness, and triumph, and fear, and I am imperfect. But I am perfected. [Television]

Part 2: Choose one object. Describe what this object means to you in 250 words or fewer. Think, in particular, how this object has influenced your identity. Does it passively shape your life, or is it something that you have an active connection to? Be prepared to talk about what this object means to you in our “Pieces of You” segment of class on Wed. 2/10.

Discussion – Information Governance Metrics

In order to have a successful IG program, one of the eight (8) Information Risk Planning and Management step is to develop metrics and measure results.   From your required readings, discuss the value that metrics brings to the organization, and identify critical measures of success that should be tracked.

Please make your initial post and two response posts substantive. A substantive post will do at least two of the following:

  • Ask an interesting, thoughtful question pertaining to the topic
  • Answer a question (in detail) posted by another student or the instructor
  • Provide extensive additional information on the topic
  • Explain, define, or analyze the topic in detail
  • Share an applicable personal experience
  • Provide an outside source (for example, an article from the UC Library) that applies to the topic, along with additional information about the topic or the source (please cite properly in APA)
  • Make an argument concerning the topic.

At least two scholarly sources should be used in the initial discussion thread. Be sure to use information from your readings and other sources from the UC Library. Use proper citations and references in your post.

Psychology Essay exam

Write an essay comparing/contrasting two or more out of the following four theorists: William James, Wilhelm Wundt, G. Stanley Hall, and Kurt Lewin.  Please talk about their theories, rather than their biographies.  Your essay should contain about 500 words summarizing the theories you have chosen to compare/contrast.  Then, you must add about 250 words for the conclusion, which must answer the following question:  How do these theorists relate to psychology TODAY, that is, to current concerns and the contemporary situation in the field of psychology in our own time?  Your complete essay (summaries of the theories plus your conclusion) should be 750 – 1,000 words long, that is, a MINIMUM of 750 words and a MAXIMUM of 1,000 words (strictly enforced).   Most importantly, the entire essay must be ENTIRELY in your own words. Turnitin will check this (that the essay is in your own words) automatically.  If you plagiarize the essay, or use anyone else’s words other than YOUR OWN, you will automatically fail this exam, so please be very careful.  You do not have to quote any of your sources.  But if you do decide to quote anything (that is, use words from another source) you MUST put these words in quotation marks, to show that they are a direct quote, and not your own words.  Failing to do that (use quotation marks for any words that are not your own) may result in your receiving a failing grade for this exam.

CASE STUDY:

Caregiver Role Strain: Ms. Sandra A.  Sandra, a 47-year-old divorced woman, received a diagnosis of stage 3 ovarian cancer 4 years  ago, for which she had a total hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo- oophorectomy, omentectomy,  lymphadenectomy, and tumor debulking followed by chemotherapy, consisting of cisplatin  (Platinol), paclitaxel (Taxol), and doxorubicin (Adriamycin). She did well for 2 years and then  moved back to her hometown near her family and underwent three more rounds of secondline chemotherapy. She accepted a less stressful job, bought a house, renewed old friendships,  and became more involved with her two sisters and their families. Sandra developed several complications, including metastasis to the lungs. Then she could no  longer work, drive, or care for herself. She had been told by her oncologist that there was  nothing else that could be done and that she should consider entering a hospice. She met her  attorney and prepared an advance directive and completed her will. She decided to have  hospice care at home and, with the help of her family, set up her first floor as a living and  sleeping area. She was cared for by family members around the clock for approximately 3 days. Sandra observed that she was tiring everyone out so much that they could not really enjoy each  other’s company. At this time, she contacted the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) to seek  assistance. Her plan was to try to enjoy her family and friend’s visits. After assessment, the VNA  nurse prioritized her problems to include fatigue and caregiver role strain. Other potential  problem areas that may need to be incorporated into the care plan include anticipatory grieving  and impaired comfort.

 Reflective Questions

 1. What are some of the stresses on Sandra’s middle-aged sisters and their families?

2. What resources are available to manage these stresses and support the sisters while  caring for their dying sister Sandra?

3. Describe Sandra’s feelings about dependency and loss of autonomy because she is  unable to do her own activities of daily living any longer

Week 3 Assignment: Outline

An outline is a helpful way to focus and order your ideas on a topic. Without a plan for writing, you may find yourself veering from the main topic and away from your central argument. There are different kinds of outlines such as topic outlines and sentence outlines . You have likely created those in the past. However, for this class, you will be completing a paragraph outline.

Purpose:

This assignment will help you to

• chart the course of your argument and develop the sequence in which your supporting elements are explored.
• integrate research from the sources in the Annotated Bibliography where they will best support your argument.
• identify areas that need additional support. You can utilize your work from our Week 2 Discussion. Make sure to revise, incorporating some of the useful feedback that you received.

Task:Create an outline by following these steps and  Using the format from attached file

  • Include a strong thesis statement that reveals your argument and your three supporting elements. For example: Active reading should be a primary method of learning because it supports strong communication skills in the workplace, enhances EFL learner’s transition from the native language to the adopted one, and promotes a tangible experience not found in social media engagement.
  • Craft three substantive body paragraphs. These will become the major sections of your final paper. Within the final paper, you will further expand on these ideas. Each paragraph should open with a topic sentence. A topic sentence delves into one of the supporting elements listed in the thesis. It is a declarative statement that prepares the reader for the ideas explored in the coming paragraphs. In the outline format that you will follow, each of the first sentences in the paragraphs is the topic sentence. Notice how it further expands each of the supporting elements. For example:  Reading is beneficial because it supports strong communication skills, which is necessary for anyone seeking employment.
  • Integrate research into each paragraph. Utilize a paraphrase within two paragraphs and a short-burst quotation within one. When integrating a quotation, make sure to provide context for the quotation. Explain what the quotation reveals, proves, disproves, or elucidates. How does this quotation impact the argument? What hole in the research does it fill?
  • Insert APA in-text citations whenever research is utilized in the outline and include APA references at the end of the outline.
  • Open each paragraph with a transitional phrase. Review the transitions resources in the Week 3 Learning Module. For example:  Beyond offering strong communication skills, more specifically, reading can also provide the necessary tools for English language learners to learn how to transition to and effectively use the English language.
  • A good outline should also indicate alternate points of view, such as other solutions, other causes, or other effects. Dedicate some time to considering counterarguments. How can you disprove them?
  • Review the rubric for this assignment.

Criteria for Success:

  • Revise your introduction from your Week 3 Discussion. Do not submit the same discussion post. Make substantive changes based on feedback.
  • Revise your thesis from the previous weeks’ work.
  • Craft three body paragraphs. These will become the major sections of your later paper. They should not be thought of as the only body paragraphs you will need.
  • Generally, order your points weakest to strongest. It is not advisable to begin with your strongest point.
  • In your body paragraphs, indicate where your sources will fit.
  • As your final paper requires 7+ sources, begin to use those here.
  • Indicate where you need further research.
  • A good outline should also indicate alternate points of view, such as other solutions, other causes, or other effects. Dedicate some time to considering counterarguments.
  • In your conclusion, indicate why your argument matters to your readers.
  • Review the rubric
