Define the business problem:

First, the issue is the motivation people will have to get into fitness and self-care. Many people want to change their lifestyles but are not active and lack motivation. In order to provide motivation certain services should be provided to make the studio stand out against competitors.

The second issue will be the cost of the membership to include coverage for the services provided.

Research questions:

1. What services can be provided that will make the yoga studio stand out against the competition?

2. What factors will help determine the cost of the membership?

The customers targeted for the research are those that want to make a change in their physical lifestyle. The sampling technique that will be used will be a simple random sampling of college students of all ages. I chose this technique because I believe it will help to determine what their physical lifestyle consists of and their interests in overall physical fitness.

Survey and observation will help to find if students are interested in fitness as well as what services they would be interested in trying. Descriptive feedback will help to determine the kind of services that will be provided. Determining the other services can help with the cost of the membership and control the demand. A mixed focus group of physically active and non-motivated people will help to determine what they like or dislike about the yoga studio and provide specifics on issues with other services. A secondary source will be to utilize social media to gain attention to the yoga studio and promote. This way would be fast and easy since everyone is on social media.

I believe the best way to present my report is to gather my information and create a short and sweet PowerPoint. I would show what will be included in the studio as far as actual classes and services that help promote a physically healthy lifestyle. It will also show brief information on how the findings were gathered and the targeted crowd. Ways to help promote motivation within people to join or visit the yoga studio.

Pinpointing the origin of our involvement in Vietnam in the post-World War II belief that “we could control the future of the world,” Davis suggests that our policy of Communist containment spawned an altogether different and intractable monster at home, that is, the management of lies and cover-up emanating from the very top. In this session, you have been considering moral-ethical dilemmas you yourself faced or that you know of that you either resolved or failed to resolve, but hopefully learned from. You will be focusing on this case for this assignment:

Jane Doe is a nursing student at University X. Jane is in week eight of a course entitled: “Introduction to Ethics”.

For the week one discussion, Jane copied work done by her friend John Doe in the same class two months ago (with a different professor). John told Jane it was okay to use his work as John’s professor never checked any work in the class using Turnitin.com. John claimed to have earned an A on the work also.

In week two, Jane went to StudentPapering.com and paid ten dollars for a week two essay done by a student (not John Doe) who took the same course four months ago. StudentPapering promises that all its archived work is of excellent quality and cannot be detected as copied. Jane then uploaded an exact copy of the work for the week two assignment.

In week three, Jane paid a worker at PaperingStudent.com ten dollars to write for Jane a brand new essay after Jane shared with the worker the essay assignment instructions.

In week four, Jane relied on her knowledge of Esperanto. She felt pressed for time and found an article by a professor from Esperanto on the week four topic. She translated Esperanto into English using Moogle Translate, and the translated text served as her week four paper.

In week five, Jane was running late again. Jane purposely uploaded a blank paper hoping that she would later claim it was an innocent mistake and not be assessed a late penalty. In a previous course on History, she had done the same (with an earlier paper from the History class rather than simply a blank) and had not seen any late penalty assessed.

In week six, Jane took work she did in a nursing course from a year ago and submitted that for her discussion posting in her current class. She simply copied and pasted the work she had labored intensively on a year ago (even though University X forbids this practice as ‘self-plagiarism’). Jane was confident her Nursing instructor never checked that work using Turnitin.com or another method.

In week seven, Jane copied and pasted work found on website.com for the paper. Jane did not use any quotation marks or other documentation to show the text was not by Jane.

Since Jane’s Ethics professor did not check papers and posting for any issues by using Turnitin.com or another method, the professor graded all of Jane’s work unaware of Jane’s actions throughout the weeks of the class. Jane feels her actions are morally justified both because her economic situation requires her to work too much to devote time to school (although other students are well-off enough to have such time) and her religion forbids cheating, but Jane ignores her religion’s teachings.

Case Study

CM is a 43-year-old female who presents with concerns regarding two painless right-breast lumps that she detected four months ago. She missed an appointment for evaluation by her primary-care provider at that time and presents today with reportedly no change in these findings since that time. There has been no breast discharge, bleeding, overlying skin changes, lymphadenopathy, or fevers; she denies recent or past breast trauma. She did, however, undergo a stereostatic breast biopsy three years ago that demonstrated atypical lobular hyperplasia, and there is a known family history of breast cancer (mother, diagnosis at age 48). Current review is significant for a 10-pound weight loss due to diminished appetite over the last two months. Amenorrheic x three years; no current hormonal-replacement therapy or previous oral-contraceptive use; had levonorgestrel implantation at age 28, removed at age 33 and has only used condoms since, but nothing now as she is not sexually active.
This case is meant to highlight indications for breast-cancer screening and to outline the standard evaluation of a female who presents with a breast mass.

Learning objectives for the case:

• Distinguish between the common types of breast masses.
• Know the guidelines for breast-cancer screening.

Frameworks for Nursing Research

 

A group of nurses working in a hospital observed that some patients with chronic renal insufficiency were less cooperative due to being anxious and unable to think clearly. They also noted that these patients were less likely to ambulate and actively participate in their care, unless there was a family member present. Through reviewing the literature, the nurses identified a lack of knowledge about the effects of renal insufficiency on ambulation. We want to ensure we are able to gain insight and depth to the approach being studied. It is important to see how each person is their own being and their own reality of the way they view things. A descriptive research design would be best fit to answer the additional questions that instructors are wanting to find. Utilizing a more in-depth participant approach/interaction approach, such as, direct observation. We can also look into more of a historical research design which can examine evens the participant has experienced for present or future effects tot the study. We can formulate research questions, journals, audio/videotape or data collecting.

There are ethical issues that can arise in the study. It is important the psychologist be well trained to understand the multiple factors that can arise when conducting a study and having questions answered. As stated in Ponterotto (2013) article “It may be possible to do good quantitative research without knowing much about epistemology of the philosophy of (social) science, but good qualitative research requires an informed awareness of philosophical perspectives” (Ponterotto, J. G., 2013) which is a characteristic of ontology. We also have a characteristic of epistemology, which contributes to the relationship between the participant and the researcher, as well as, rhetorical structure, which is the language they use to explain the research findings to the participant. As in any study, we want to ensure the participants privacy is respected and kept confidential. Any form of recording or data collecting will require the participants consent via verbal and in writing.

Much of the quantitative approach and paradigm differ due to it being more data and statistical collecting. The methods require a more structured approach than what a qualitative approach requires. Varying paradigmatic approaches to psychology research are only just recently demonstrating elevated measures of refinement. There is some contention among practitioners regarding mixed-method research models, because they are known for, “[…] combining qualitative and quantitative paradigms” (Frost, 2011, p. 9). Sociologist Dr. Ann Oakley (1944 – ) of London University’s Institute of Education terms the current debate, “paradigm wars,” (Oakley, 1999, p. 247), even calling the discourse a, “battle” (p. 248). As more and more technological and psychometric advances emerge, past discursive discourse has effectively morphed into healthy debate as to the myriad research modalities available in the exploration of analytical latencies of human behavior. A systematic mixed-method (qualitative and quantitative) strategy may be the appropriate course in the Murphy (2014) Scenario, as examiners are seeking objective (statistical) and subjective (intuitive) conclusions/results.

Qualitative and quantitative models are likely superior apposite analytic methods as there are explorations/analyses of multi-directional (intuition/statistics) components taken into consideration. Ponterotto (2013) breaks the directionality factor down (elaborates) even further by positing a “[…] constructionist-interpretivist” (p. 21) paradigm by introducing interrogative protocol as a construct of the research design (p. 23). With a constructionist approach, protocol assigns values to variables, and is rooted in “valid potential” (p. 24). This is actually a suitable strategy for patients, as variables are expressly controlled. From applicable matrices germane to the Murphy (2014) Scenario, this allocates a basis of relative probability, using tried-and-true, peer-reviewed statistical math to arrive at calculable conclusions. Math is written in stone, and in the vernacular, and thus opens the door for more speculative idealistic (from the mind) ways to render generalization extinct from the paradigm. Nothing is flawless &/or perfect; & no thing is written in stone.

            There may be no all-inclusive way to assign fundamentally and wholly valid data to a functionally qualitative investigative model. The design cancels itself, in terms of the scaffolding (framework) of assigning margin-for-error. This aids in the development of more sophisticated Likert-Scale questionnaires, as attitudes and emotions can be challenging to quantify.
