Statistics 4

Recall the car data set you identified in Week 2. We know that this data set is normally distributed using the mean and SD you calculated.  (Be sure you use the numbers without the supercar outlier)

For the next 4 cars that are sampled, what is the probability that the price will be less than $500 dollars below the mean?  Make sure you interpret your results.

Please note: we are given a new sample size, we will need to calculate a new SD.  Then, to find the value that is $500 below the mean you will need to take the mean and subtract $500 from it.  For example, if the mean is $15,000 then $500 below this would be $14,500.  Thus the probability you would want to find is P(x < 14,500).

For the next 4 cars that are sampled, what is the probability that the price will be higher than $1000 dollars above the mean?  Make sure you interpret your results.  Use the same logic as above.  If your mean is $15,000 then $1,000 above is 15,000 + 1,000 = $16,000.  Thus the probability you would want to find is P(x > 16,000).

For the next 4 cars that are sampled, what is the probability that the price will be equal to the mean?  Make sure you interpret your results.  Use the same logic as above.

For the next 4 cars that are sampled, what is the probability that the price will be $1500 within the mean?  Make sure you interpret your results.  Use the same logic as above.

I encourage you to review the Week 4 normal probabilities PDF at the bottom of the discussion.  This will give you a step by step example to follow and show you how to find probabilities using Excel.  I also encourage you to review the Week 4 Empirical Rule PDF.  This will give you a better understanding on how to utilize the empirical rule.  You can also use this PDF in the Quizzes section.

There are additional PDFs that were created to help you with the Homework, Lessons and Tests in Quizzes section.  While they won’t be used to answer the questions in the discussion, they are just as useful and beneficial.  I encourage you to review these ASAP!  These PDFs are also located at the bottom of the discussion.

“Before you post your initial discussion, you must submit it in the assignment area in a Word file, so its originality can be checked by Turnitin.com. I will take points off if you do not do this. Your score will appear in the same place you submit your file. It can take up to 24 hours for a score to return, but usually, it is less than 30 minutes. Before you post your discussion in the activity, make sure your originality index (%) is less than 15. If it is greater than 15%, rewrite your discussion, submit it again in the assignment area and check the %. Keep doing this until your % is less than 15%. Only post your discussion when the % is less than 15. Here are two hints to get your score below 15%: 1) leave your list of supporting material out of the file you submit for checking (don’t forget to add these back when you post your discussion in the forum) and 2) use your own words, not quotes.

Once you have posted your initial discussion, you must reply to at least two other learner’s post. Each post must be a different topic. So, you will have your initial post from one topic, your first follow-up post from a different topic, and your second follow-up post from one of the other topics. Of course, you are more than welcome to respond to more than two learners.”

Instructions: You must respond to at least 2 other students. Responses may include direct questions.

In your peer posts, compare the probabilities that you found with those of your classmates. Were they higher/lower and why? In your responses, refer to the specific data from your classmates’ posts.  Make sure you include your data set in your initial post as well.

3.3 Annotated Literature Review Outline

The student will complete a 2-3 page annotated outline of your literature review section of your research paper. The structure of the outline will conform to the “Literature Review” section of the template provided.

Instructions:

  • Write 2-3 sentences about each heading. The sentences should discuss the main purpose of each section of the paper and summarize what the paper will discuss. Discuss the main idea and the major contribution of each section. The section is not intended to present the details. This is the 35,000 foot view, not the street view.
  • For each sub-heading, you will provide annotations/citations directly related to the topic sentence. Again, this is not the place for details. The details will be fleshed out in the paper.
  • The outline should help you conceptualize the completed paper and make timely progress toward the paper’s completion.
  • Add comments and explanations, citations of sources appropriate to each outline entry, information about each of the cited sources, and topic sentences.
  • This assignment has a Title Page but NO Abstract or Table of Contents. A Reference page is needed for references used.

    Scenario
You are the facility manager for EnVision, a high-tech vehicle maker located in Atlanta. This new company designs, manufactures, and sells electric vehicles and charging units. EnVision’s unique designs, technical prowess, and limited competition has placed them in the enviable position of having a high demand for their line of products. This demand has generated over a billion dollars in pre-sale orders, and a new manufacturing facility is required to meet customer’s needs. The firm’s CEO, Mark Hammel, has asked you to select a new site that will accommodate a new state-of-the-art facility. EnVision is a privately held organization that consists of a board of directors, management and staff, all of whom are familiar with data visualization presentations.

The existing 600 employees and a handful of investors also have an interest in the company’s success. All of the EnVision employees are acquainted with the company’s operations and goals and have at least a high school education; they do not want their employment jeopardized. A small group of investors is also interested in any decisions that might affect the firm’s bottom line. The extent of data visualization techniques is unknown by these two latter groups.

    Instructions
The CEO, Mark Hammel has asked you to help him plan for a presentation for sharing your findings on the site selection and other information, to be presented to all levels of the company in an internal meeting. Your site selection criteria need to be presented and explained by all the various entities within EnVision. Be sure to include the following, being mindful of your visual presentation of the data and information.
Create a presentation report that includes the following:

    • Identification of the needs and goals of the various stakeholder groups.
    • Evaluation of the audience member’s background and skills.
    • Definition of the motivating factors for audience participation in the presentation.
    • Compare and contrast the desired outcomes of the visuals to be included in the presentation.

The Role of the RN/APRN in Policy-Making

Word cloud generators have become popular tools for meetings and team-building events. Groups or teams are asked to use these applications to input words they feel best to describe their team or their role. A “word cloud” is generated by the application that makes prominent the most-used terms, offering an image of the common thinking among participants of that role.

What types of words would you use to build a nursing word cloud? Empathetic, organized, hard-working, or advocate would all certainly apply. Would you add policy-maker to your list? Do you think it would be a very prominent component of the word cloud?

Nursing has become one of the largest professions in the world, and as such, nurses have the potential to influence policy and politics on a global scale. When nurses influence the politics that improve the delivery of healthcare, they are ultimately advocating for their patients. Hence, policy-making has become an increasingly popular term among nurses as they recognize a moral and professional obligation to be engaged in healthcare legislation.

To Prepare:

  • Revisit the Congress.gov website provided in the Resources and consider the role of RNs and APRNs in policy-making.
  • Reflect on potential opportunities that may exist for RNs and APRNs to participate in the policy-making process.

Post an explanation of at least two opportunities that exist for RNs and APRNs to actively participate in policy-making. Explain some of the challenges that these opportunities may present and describe how you might overcome these challenges. Finally, recommend two strategies you might make to better advocate for or communicate the existence of these opportunities to participate in policy-making. Be specific and provide examples.

Marketing Paper

The company chosen for this paper assignment:

Amgen

Jack Trout and Al Ries brought the concept of positioning into the marketing mainstream with their book, Positioning, the Battle for Your Mind, published in 1980 and since updated several times. (I highly recommend that any of you who are actually interested in a career in marketing should get a copy of the book and read it carefully.) In brief, they define positioning as the mental short list that a consumer has in her mind when she starts to think about shopping for something. Your brand should have a position somewhere on that list, as close to the top of it as possible. If you are not on the list at all, your brand will probably not be considered.

That mental shortlist will typically be about 5 to 7 items long and often shorter, almost never longer. For example, when consumers start thinking about buying a new car, they don’t think of the dozens of possibilities out there, they think about choices with which they are already familiar and which stand out from the crowd.

The authors argue that it is the job of marketers to make their brands seem different from competitors and different in ways that the intended target audience will see as important and preferable.

“Positioning” then becomes a process of figuring out a short summary about the brand to make it memorable and likable. Often, this is summarized in a single phrase or sentence, like BMW’s “Ultimate Driving Machine” or Disney’s “Where dreams come true.”

Such statements often take the form of what advertising people call a “tagline” or “slogan.” But this is not always the case. Sometimes brands use multiple approaches to create a brand image that communicates a message to set it apart from competitors. For example, Volvo is widely perceived as a very safe car that will protect people inside the car even when there is a bad accident. Recently, Subaru has also started to use the same idea, and I would argue that this makes Subaru look somewhat like a “me too” brand, one that is “Johnny come lately” to a category that Volvo established years ago.

For this paper what you need to do is pick a Fortune 500 company and discuss its positioning and the tactics/actions it uses to get this positioning to “stick” in someone’s mind.  As stated above, choosing the company must be done ahead of time so that no two people pick the same company. The first person to pick a company “owns” that example.

NOTE:  Please refer back to your Course Summary for your due date on this paper so you can prepare well in advance.

EXPECTATIONS:  Length is 5 to 9 pages excluding title page, executive summary (on a page by itself), reference list, and any appendices. Follow APA formatting. Do not include a table of contents.

Note that the grading rubric states that using correct APA formatting is worth 10% of the total grade on your paper, so if you do a poor job with this, it could easily cost you a letter grade on the assignment. Therefore, effort is required to adhere to APA standards.

Also, click on the attached APA sample paperPreview the document that you must read and which you should probably print out for yourself. Note that the paper is not just a sample, it also explains how to use elements of APA style.  On top of that, here on Canvas under resources, there is a list of APA help documents as well, please be sure to read over all of the resources within that section to help you write your paper.  In addition, be sure to utilize the writing tutor to help show you how to improve your paper.  Make those changes BEFORE submitting your paper for a final grade.

EDUC 6125 Week 8 Discussion Question

Week 8 Discussion Question

For this week’s Discussion, review the scenarios and ethical dilemmas below*. Select an issue of interest to you and conduct a search for additional information in the Walden Library or on the Internet related to the issue you selected that could guide your response. Then, consider the following:

What ethical issues or implications might exist around your selected scenario?

What consequences could result from unethical practices or the perception of unethical practices in the given situation?

What can you do to avoid any unethical practices?

What ethical guidelines or professional standards apply to the situation and can guide you in your decision-making?

*Note: You may speculate and expand upon any missing information from the scenarios to complete your analysis. Be sure to clarify any assumptions you are making in your post.

Scenario 3: You are an instructional designer with a small consulting and training firm. As part of your job, you contract with subject matter experts (SME) to write training courses on various topics based on the needs of your clients. While reviewing the curriculum and content of a course just delivered by a new SME, you realize that some of the content sounds familiar to you. You conduct a quick Internet search on some of the key phrases, and realize that the SME has plagiarized some of the content and has not cited the sources. The course has taken weeks to develop, and is due to your client in a few days. You consider the actions you should take in revising the course and in dealing with the SME.

stat discussion 4

Confidence Interval Estimation – Discussion

When the results of a survey or poll are published, the sample size and the margin of error are both given. For example: 1000 voters were surveyed and 39±2% of the voters agree with the president. In this example N=1000 and the margin of error (MoE) is 2%.

This website lists several public opinion polls. Search the site and find a poll where the sample size and margin of error are given. Try to find a poll dealing with a topic in your profession or one in which you are really interested.

http://www.pollingreport.com

Determine the following information for the selected poll results and include in your initial post:

  1. URL for the website. State the poll question, the sample size N, and the margin of error (also known as sampling error).
  2. Interpret the results of your poll using your own words and full sentences. Note: Depending on the question asked, your poll may have more than one poll result – you only need to discuss one result.
  3. State the confidence interval using the MoE. What does this confidence interval estimate?
  4. Use this worksheet (click to download CIE Proportion.xlsx) to calculate the confidence interval based on the sample size and the number of successes (the proportion you are interested in). Use a confidence level of 95%.
  5. What is the calculated confidence interval? How does this compare to the interval in part 3 using the poll’s MoE?
  6. Discuss potential biases that could skew sampling results.

See Example post.

First response: Choose a classmate’s post. Calculate the sample size needed for the given MoE and see if the poll had enough people surveyed. Use this worksheet (click to download Sample Size Proportion.xlsx) to find the sample size needed.

See Example post.

Second response: Choose another classmate’s post. Change the confidence level to 90% or 99%. What happened to the confidence interval (compared to your classmate’s)? Explain the change.
