Discussion psot 5

Post: Candidates will read Chapter 7 in Stader and their assigned Case Scenario. Candidates will provide a comprehensive post that incorporates a response to the question(s) outlined in the scenario. The post should (a) analyze the regulatory mandates and case law to respond to the potential legal problem(s), (b) incorporate scholarly arguments supported by academic resources to support your actions, (c) include the ways that the case scenario illustrates the issues of school safety and the legal significance for a school, and (d) identify ethical dilemmas and guidelines.

Scenario 1: You are a principal and have been dealing with an incident between two students. A fifth-grade female has reported a number of incidents of inappropriate behavior over the past six months by a boy in her class. The girl reported that the boy attempted to touch her breasts and genital area and made vulgar statements such as “I want to go to bed with you.” The boy is also alleged to have made sexually suggestive movements. These incidents are alleged to have occurred in the regular classroom and in the gym during physical education class. You have investigated each of these incidents and found neither a teacher nor any eyewitnesses to confirm the girl’s story. In addition, the boy denies any wrongdoing. You have warned the boy to stop any improper behavior and to stay away from the girl. You have also asked the staff to “watch out” for any bad behavior on the boy’s part, but have received no reports. The girl’s family asked to have her separated from the boy, but that would not be easy to do, and your policy does not allow for student transfers unless an actual assault has occurred. You feel you have done all you can do without taking the girl’s word over the boy’s. Further, teachers have told you that the girl has a history of “embellishing her stories.” Your experience in the elementary school has taught you that “boys will be boys” and that this behavior is typical childish behavior that usually goes away if you ignore it and let it run its course. You have noticed that the girl’s grades have dropped in the last term. What are the principal’s best actions and what court cases are most applicable to address this situation?

Appreciative Inquiry

Case Assignment

For this assignment, first carefully review the required background materials. Then make sure you understand the main principles of Appreciative Inquiry and how they compare to traditional organizational development approaches (action research, problem solving). It is also important to understand what is involved in each of the “5 Ds” – Define, Discovery, Dream, Design, and Destiny.

When you are finished reviewing the background materials, go through each of the scenarios below and apply what you’ve read to these scenarios. For each scenario, cite at least one of the required readings to support your answer. You should cite at least three of the four required readings in your paper. Your paper should be 4–5  pages in length:

  1. A corporation notices that suddenly turnover in the human resource department has been extremely high. This corporations prides itself on having a dedicated and committed workforce, so this high turnover in one department is highly troubling for this company. Normally the human resource department investigates when there is a high turnover rate in a department. But since the human resource department is now the department with the high turnover rate, the CEO decides that an outside consultant should be hired to investigate the high turnover rate and propose solutions. Should this team use an Appreciative Inquiry consultant, or hire a more traditional Organizational Development consultant? Explain your reasoning with references to the required readings.
  2. An organization hires an Appreciative Inquiry consultant to help the company get back on track and improve the performance of its product design team. The consultant starts by asking members of the team how they would like the team to perform and what their ideal vision of the team would be. The consultant collects all of this input and designs a detailed plan regarding how to achieve this ideal future that the team dreams about. However, once this detailed plan is presented to the team they are all shocked that the consultant came up with such an unrealistic plan. Team members say that the expenses involved in this plan are far beyond their budget, and they would also need to hire many new team members in order to achieve this plan in a realistic time frame. They all agree it would be great if they had the time and money to implement this plan, but they also are in consensus that this plan presented by the consultant is highly unrealistic. What do you think went wrong? What steps do you think the Appreciative Inquiry consultant could have taken to make the consulting process go better? Refer to the specific “5 Ds” of Appreciative Inquiry in your answer.
  3. A group of ten friends decide to start a new social networking company and put their savings together to start this new business. The company grows rapidly for the first five years and morale is very high in the company during this time. Everyone gets along very well and they work together cooperatively in order to continuously improve the company and its services. However, after five years the company stops growing and seems to reach a plateau. Morale seems to drop and there is now noticeable tension between employees including the top leadership team. They are not sure what to do revive the company, so they decide to hire a consultant. Should this team use an Appreciative Inquiry approach or a more traditional organizational development approach? Explain your reasoning with references to the required readings.
  4. A large supermarket chain decides they would like to expand to have an online division where consumers can order online and have their groceries delivered directly to their homes. The supermarket decides to create a special taskforce to come up with a detailed plan on how they should develop and manage the new online division. This taskforce includes a diverse variety of employees including those from the marketing department, accounting department, inventory department, and most of the main departments. These employees do not have much experience working with each other since they are from different departments. After meeting regularly for a few months, the taskforce makes almost no progress and are constantly bickering. Management is concerned that the online division will never get off the ground. To get back on track and find a way to function more smoothly, should this taskforce use an Appreciative Inquiry approach or a more traditional organizational development approach? Explain your reasoning with references to the required readings.

NURS-6050- MODULE4 DISCUSSION1 REPLY 2

One of the most important modern healthcare information regulations of the current generation is the 1996 regulatory act called Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) (Security, 2019).  Over the years, many amendments were made to HIPAA, and in 2009 congress updated HIPAA with the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) (Security, 2019).  While HIPAA was intended for several beneficial purposes like making health insurance affordable and protecting patient data, loopholes in the act were being exploited by several parties and the electronic systems that were suggested to be incorporated into medical services were being ignored (Security, 2019).  Thus, the HITECH act was proposed to pinch off the loopholes and to incentivize healthcare services to adopt the electronic health record (EHR) system.

To understand why HIPAA and HITECH acts were developed in the first place, it is first important to acknowledge that the healthcare service industry has both economic and political dimensions.  HITECH is a government incentive program encouraging physicians to implement  electronic health records (Security, 2019).  This industry-wide EHR adoption incentive program costs the congress billions of dollars every year.  The act uses financial incentives to not just encourage physicians to adopt EHR, but to adopt EHR certified by the government (Security, 2019).  While electronic records have been used since the 1960s (although only sparingly), the widespread use of computers in the 1990s tipped the government to consider implementing a widespread adoption of an EHR that could help in the recording and exchange of clinical information (Security, 2019).  Even by the year 2009, only a few doctors had adopted the digital capabilities of the information age to record and share medical information, with most of them still holding on to the use of paper to record and share information (Security, 2019).  Thus, one of the main reasons behind the enforcement of EHR was the many-fold increase in efficiency provided by EHR.

In fact, the Obama administration, in 2009, even decided to spend billions of dollars to stimulate EHR adoption, and help guide physicians from the inefficiencies of a paper-based to protect patient privacy and improve health outcomes (EHR Meaningful Use Criteria, n.d.).  Qualified professionals are eligible to receive up to $44,000 over five years in Medicare incentives and  upto $64,000 in Medicaid incentives (EHR Meaningful Use Criteria, n.d.).  However, any physician or healthcare service who waits could not only lose out but also get hit with penalties (Security, 2019).  Typically, a physician has to prove that he uses a certified EHR system and demonstrate a “meaningful use” criteria of EHR use (Security, 2019).  Each provider has to meet this comprehensive “meaningful use” criteria which break down into five big goals.  And if even one aspect of this goal is not met by the physician, they would become ineligible for the payments under the HITECH act (Security, 2019).

The strictly enforced and ever evolving meaningful use criteria ensures a host of benefits to the patients through the employment of a certified EHR system by the physician.  For instance, the meaningful use of the EHR is meant to improve the efficiency and quality of healthcare (EHR Meaningful Use Criteria, n.d.).  Moreover, the reduction of errors and disparities also goes a long way in protecting sensitive patient information (EHR Meaningful Use Criteria, n.d.).  EHR is also expected to improve care coordination between physicians and between nurses and physicians (EHR Meaningful Use Criteria, n.d.).  Such outcomes are generated through a list of goals.  These goals include transparency and ease in communication with public health agencies.  Other goals necessitate the creation  of technologies and operating policies that comply with the goals of HIPAA (EHR Meaningful Use Criteria, n.d.).  Other such goals also include the reporting of patient registries in order to improve quality and public reporting.

The adoption of EHR incentivized by the HITECH act along with its associated adoption of meeting the “meaningful use’ criteria has transitioned the behavior of nurses to be more alert and careful (“Impact of EHRs on Nursing Practice,” 2016).  Given the liability of losing money if the criteria is not met, nurses now focus a lot more on patient care, complying with the expected standards and in creating more detailed records (“Impact of EHRs on Nursing Practice,” 2016).  This ensured more safety and security to patients.  Some nurses, despite complaining about the difficult expectations of HITECH, agreed that once the mastery of the EHR was complete, they did understand the benefits of the time saving and privacy-oriented EHR system (“Impact of EHRs on Nursing Practice,” 2016).  The ease in communication of electronic information also has a darker side: it is much easier to share patient information with unauthorized parties.  Thus, the adoption of the meaningful use criteria has also prevented nurses from partaking in such behavior.

Common culture characteristic that we need to take in account when we treat deaf patients.

The culture of the deaf and hard of hearing is often overlooked because it is characterized as a nonethnic culture.  What cultural characteristics do deaf people have in common with other cultural groups? If your patient is both deaf and identifies with another cultural group as well, (like Asian, Cuban, Russian, polish, mursulin, or others) how does this affect your ability to provide quality cultural care?

How culture affects the way in what psychiatric patient are treated?

Conflict Resolution

End of Term Conflict Analysis Overview

The purpose of this paper is to analyze a specific conflict you have had or continue to have with a specific person(s). Students often analyze workplace conflicts, personal, or family conflicts, etc. If you select a personal or workplace conflict, please use fictitious names or pseudonyms when describing the parties involved. Also, keep in mind that the conflict must involve at least two parties (this cannot be intra-personal conflict). To analyze effectively any case, you must select a case with substance and incorporate course concepts and terminology from the text in your analysis and self-reflection.

Process

Before Writing

Section I of this assignment sheet includes questions for you to think about before writing your analysis (see attachment).

Writing the Paper/Analysis

Sections II-VIII of this assignment sheet include questions for you to consider as you write about the nature of your conflict, the role of power, individual styles, assessment, personal intervention, prevention, and possible solutions to your conflict. Base on your case or analysis, you may not need to answer every question in each section. However, please write your analysis in paragraph form for each major section, not as short answers to each question. The questions are to help you frame and guide your analysis, not for you to answer or reply to individually. You are writing an analysis paper, which should include key tables and diagrams to visually illustrate your conflict analysis. For example, TRIP diagram, Conflict Triangles, Coalition diagram, RICE analysis, etc. Note: If your conflict does not involve three parties, then a “conflict triangle” may not be appropriate in your case.

Finally, this assignment should also include a cover page and reference list, which are not part of the required pages (see attachment). Please clearly label each section within your paper and view the grading rubric for this assignment.

Week 3 Discussion: Influences of Ancient Architecture

Initial Post Instructions
This week you will read about architecture. The lesson includes information on Roman architecture, which was greatly influenced by the Greeks and Etruscans.

Locate at least two architectural works that were influenced by Greco-Roman architecture. These can be from any time period after the Greco-Roman period but should be from different periods themselves (e.g., one from Renaissance and one from Baroque). Then address the following:

  • What is the function of each structure?
  • How does each work exhibit influence of the Greco-Roman period? Is the influence specifically Greek, Etruscan, or Roman – or a combination?
  • How would you compare the two selected works? Take the role of the evaluative critic.

Use examples from the text, the lesson, and the library to help support your answer. Please remember to provide images and citations to help illustrate your points.

Follow-Up Post Instructions
Respond to at least one peer. Further the dialogue by providing more information and clarification.

This week we are reading about architecture.  This is vastly different from other forms of art that we have learned about thus far. Our book describes how architects have a special and respected relationship in respects to space and function of that space.  Some of the most unique and well known buildings have been created with this foundation in architecture in mind.  As stated in our book, “Architecture generally creates a strengthened hierarchy in the positioned interrelationships of earth and sky and what is in between” (Jacobus & Martin, 2018).  The influences of Greco-Roman architecture are seen throughout the creation of buildings all over the world.   These structures are renowned for their magnificence, huge columns, and iconic beauty.  This style is also known for its symmetry, archways, vaults, and domes.  These structures are constructed using marble, limestone, and concrete.

St. Peter’s Square was built from 1656-1667 in the Vatican City, during the Renaissance time period.  Designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, it functions as a gathering place for the public upwards of 300,000 to see the Pope give his blessings.  It is named after Saint Peter, an apostle of Jesus and exhibits symmetry throughout its construction.  This structure exhibits the Greco-Roman period by its design.  For example, there is a trapezoidal entrance as one enters the elliptical viewing area.  Looking straight into the open area, one can see straight to the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter, known to be the headquarters of the Catholic church.  There is an Egyptian obelisk (a tall, four-sided narrow tapering monument that ends in a pyramid-like shape on top) located in the center of the viewing area.  Matching curved colonnades (long sequences of columns) flank each side of the obelisk with 284 columns, 88 pilasters, and 140 statues of saints (Civitatis Tours SL., n.d.).  In addition, there are two fountains on each side of the obelisk contribute to St. Peter’s square beauty and relaxing atmosphere after being constructed from 1667 to 1677 (Città Del Vaticano, n.d.).  The construction of St. Peter’s square embodies both Greek and Roman Architecture during the Renaissance era.

The Low Memorial Library located on the Columbia University campus in New York City is another example influenced by Greco-Roman architecture.  This structure was the first major building of Columbia University’s new campus built in 1895 – 1897 in the Late Modern Period.  It is located in New York City’s Morningside Heights neighborhood.  “Modeled after the Pantheon in Rome, Low (Memorial) Library was conceived as the visual and academic focal point of the campus plan” (National Park Service, n.d.).  There are several flights of steps with two landings that lead to the entrance of the building.  Its entrance faces the campus courtyard with several columns and a rising, central dome.  There are balconies along the base of the dome, with the north balcony featuring four statues of Euripides, Demosthenes, Sophocles and Augustus Caesar. The two massive columns of green marble at the entrance lead to the octagonal reading room.  This interior space is surrounded by sixteen columns of green granite from Vermont (University Archives, 2020).  This structure embodies both Greek and Roman architecture.

Taking the role of the evaluative critic and the three parts to being that, the insight to St. Peter’s Square is that this structure is a vast outdoor space where individuals can witness the pope give his blessing. This background knowledge allows for understanding of the intent behind this structure.  In my opinion, this structure is a work of perfection as the beautiful symmetry of the oval shape with its colonnades comes together to form an open area for people to gather. This structure is the ideal definition of inexhaustibility as it has infinite beauty and meaning behind each form and shape. St. Peter’s Square can be intimidating, beautiful, mysterious among so many other personal interpretations.  The Low Memorial Library has great insight behind it’s design.  Modeled after the Pantheon in Rome, this structure was built to be a library and has since become partly occupied with administrative offices. The massive columns in the front of the library give an onlooker the impression as if they are about to enter a great building, with thousands of books on display.  This structure embodies perfection and inexhaustibility shows in what appears to be an endless flight of stairs approaching the library doors.

Economic and Political Environments Comparison

Overview

There are many factors that should be examined when considering a new international market. In this assignment, you will explore how a company can qualify or quantify economic factors of markets and how it can influence the process of selecting a new market for a product. As you complete this assignment, consider how the lessons learned and resources used can be applied to your course project.

Prompt

You are an international trade consultant ranking the overall quality of various international markets for a product of your choosing. Select a product you would be interested in introducing to a new market, then complete the Module Three Assignment Template (located in the Guidelines for Submission section of this document). Then rank your recommendations for a new market and justify your rankings using key economic and political data points. Examples of products include digital cameras, activity trackers, curtains, coffeemakers, and so forth.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

  • Application of Data: Describe your initial thoughts on how insights from the required data to be collected could help to inform business decisions. For example, consider what information each data point provides, whether you think some data points should be weighted more or less heavily than others in making a business decision, what ideal data points might look like for expansion into a new market for your product, the ways that different political systems may impact a decision, and so forth.
  • Political and Economic Data Collection: Complete the table in the provided template by finding the appropriate information and data points for each identified category using course and external resources.
  • Ranking and Rationale: Rank the appropriateness of introducing your selected product into the three markets from “most appropriate” to “least appropriate” using the gathered political and economic data you collected, then provide a rationale for why you ranked the markets the way you did on the basis of the data you gathered.

Guidelines for Submission

Submit the completed Module Three Assignment Template. In Sections One and Three, complete sentences should be used. In Section Two, numbers are appropropriate. Sources should be cited according to APA style.

Literature (CREATIVE CHARACTER PERSPECTIVE)

The Assignment (Wide Sargasso Sea’s of Jane Eyre BOOK)

For this assignment, you will write a creative piece which takes the perspective of a character or persona other than the main character or persona of a text, taking Wide Sargasso Sea’s revision of Jane Eyre as an extended example. You may also choose to narrate a portion of a text that is not covered in the original, such as a portion of the eight years when Jane is at Lowood.

If you are struggling with coming up with ideas, try focusing on a particular scene from one of our texts and imagining it from a perspective other than the one from which it is being narrated.

Don’t feel limited by genre; for instance, you might choose to re-write a section of A Streetcar Named Desire as a prose narrative from Stella’s perspective. Or you could rewrite “The Raven” as a poem from the raven’s perspective. Writing a longer poem or series of shorter poems is acceptable and encouraged, though you will need to work with me to determine the equivalent to the required word count.

You are not required to write in the same style as the original text and my general goal is not to hinder your creativity in any way. Please check with me if you have questions about your ideas.

Finally, you must write a 500-word reflection on the process of rewriting the text. What did you learn? What were the difficulties you faced? How did the rewriting enhance or change your view of the original text?

Specifications

Word count: 1000-1500 words, plus a 500-word reflection

Percentage of course grade: 20% (200 points); creative portion is 150 points, reflection is 50

Submission format: .docx upload to Canvas

Margins: 1” all around

Spacing: Double

Font: Times New Roman or Garamond, size 12
