The Health Care Scene: Contemporary Trends

As health care leaders, it is important to understand that health  care is quite a dynamic field. Its constant changes are a result of  continuing trends in regulation, policy, patient and provider advocacy  efforts, as well as increasingly sophisticated technology and industry  benchmarking guidelines.

For your assignment you review  the possible topics for your Senior Project located in Week Five of your  online course or in the “Components of Course Evaluation” section of  this guide, and select the topic your training program will address. If  you choose not to select a topic from the approved topic list, you must  have your original topic approved by your instructor prior to submitting  this assignment.

For this assignment, focus on a specific  contemporary trend in health care and be sure to include all of the  following influences:

  • Changes in client characteristics
  • Regulation of the health care industry
  • Reimbursement patterns and mandates
  • Restructuring of health care organizations
  • Impact of technology
  • Ongoing social and ethical factors

Address the information above as it pertains to your  selected topic, in an eight to ten slide (excluding title and reference  slides) PowerPoint presentation.

Your presentation should conclude with a summary describing the following concerns:

  • Overall, why should health care managers be aware of this change and trend?
  • What impact does this trend have on the stakeholder groups  involved (e.g., patients, providers, administrators, third-party payers,  legislators, etc.) for a specific organization specified (e.g., for  profit, nonprofit, hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, etc.).

The information in this presentation will later be used  as part of your Senior Project to set the context for the audience you  select for a training program on the contemporary trend identified here.

Your presentation must include detailed speaker’s notes  (i.e., at least 150 words) for each slide as well as a minimum of one to  two scholarly sources from the Ashford University Library and one to  two current, scholarly web sources.

Your presentation, and any  citations used, must be in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing  Center. Examples of scholarly web sources are available in this week’s  recommended websites. These sources will also count toward the required  sources for your Senior Project. Your presentation must be engaging and  relevant to your audience. Lines of text on a slide will not be  sufficient for this assignment. It should contain images, graphics,  and/or multimedia that communicate your training program clearly to your  audience. For tips on creating an excellent presentation, read this overview.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

Discussion

During the interview process, it is important to understand the patient’s history, current use of contraception use, desire to get pregnant, health issues, and relationship status. The history can reveal any chronic illnesses and familial medical issues. Current use of contraception, STI history and sexual activity can guide care of the patient. Knowing her goals in relation to her health are important when guiding her with health education (Hawkins, Roberto-Nicholas & Stanley-Haney, 2020).

This case study went into depth with multiple stages of the patient’s condition. WIth her final diagnosis, the clinical findings that would have been present are vaginal bleeding with clots possibly being seen, pelvic pain and cramping, the os could be opened with pelvic exam. With the use of ultrasound the fetus can be examined. You would find no fetal heart sound and no growth of the fetus (Hawkins, Roberto-Nicholas & Stanley-Haney, 2020).

The primary diagnosis would be inevitable abortion due the presence of dilated os. Secondary diagnosis would include; inclomplete abortion if all the fetal contents have not been expelled, complete abortion if all the contents have been expelled or septic abortion due to an infection in the cervix. With pregnancy the mothers  immune system is lowered making them more susceptible to infection (Hawkins, Roberto-Nicholas & Stanley-Haney, 2020).

The management plan for this patient would include expectant management. This would include symptom management and watchful waiting. Educating the patient on what to look for in regards to excessive bleeding or infection and when to contact the office or emergency personnel (Hawkins, Roberto-Nicholas & Stanley-Haney, 2020).

Purpose of Project

It is very easy to be around children without noticing fascinating aspects of their behavior. Indeed, it is rare when anyone intently observes a child for a continuous period, looking for behaviors that characterize an individual child or childhood. Conscientious fulfillment of this project will help the observer be a better and more appreciative student of child behavior. If you have children, you may observe your own children.

General Instructions

You will observe children in a natural setting for 1 hour. This means that you may not be able to focus on one child exclusively. For example, you might observe children at a park, school, shopping center, amusement park, etc.

While you are observing make detailed notes of the following:

1. Age range of children

2. Number of children present. Number of adults present?

3. What behaviors are children engaging in?

4. How do the children interact with one another?

5. How do the children interact with an adult who is present?

6. Are the children engaging in age‐appropriate activities?

7. Comment on the attention span of the children.

8. Are there any gender differences in any of the behaviors you observe?

9. Does anything that we have covered in class or in the text apply to this situation?

Report Criteria

1. Write up of project, 2‐4 written pages (typed)

2. Give a general description of child (age, sex, etc.) and the observation situation

3. Describe behavior or patterns of behaviors that were interesting to you and analyze the

significance to child development

4. Do not just put a chronological list of what child did during observation period, but do show

evidence that you make careful observation.

5. Discuss significance of behaviors for the child and child development in general (use your text and notes.

MAKE SURE TO integrate text concepts as per my additional instructions (review the e-mail I sent out)

VERY IMPORTANT:

Pay particular attention to the last instruction. The most important part of this assignment is how you integrate text concepts into your observation report. What did you learn from the book that you observed in the child? What did the book say that you should see as typical of the age of your child, but you didn’t see? To get top grade, I want to see at least five references to text material in your write up.

Discussion:

Trichomoniasis

In gynecological care and history taken during an exam, it is important to include the 5 P’s including; partners, practices, prevention, protection and past. Partners include anyone the patient has been sexually active with including practices other than just penetration as well. Practices includes the different kinds of sex acts performed. Prevention includes anything done to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy. Past allows the provider to understand the patient’s sexual history of STIs, abuse, use of drugs and more (Schuiling & Likis, 2020, p.452).

Most commonly seen with trichomoniasis are strawberry spots within the vaginal walls and on the cervix and have discharge that is green to cream colored. The discharge can be used to do a microscopic examination and identify if there is any trichomoniasis. Trichomoniasis will be one-celled flagellate. The wet mount will display a foul odor when  potassium hydroxide is introduced and an increased number of white blood cells (Schuiling & Likis, 2020, p.452).

Diagnosis is trichomoniasis and the three differential diagnoses that would be included are cervicitis, vaginitis and urinary tract infection. Vaginal discharge would present with cervicitis and vaginitis, pelvic pain is seen in all three and unprotected sex can cause any of these diagnosis (Schuiling & Likis, 2020, p.452).

Management for this patient would include antibiotic treatment with nitroimidazoles, “metronidazole 2 gm orally in a single dose or tinidazole 2 gm orally in a single dose” (Schuiling & Likis, 2020, p.452). During the antibiotic use, the patient should remain abstinent and avoid alcohol. She should return for a recheck once the antibiotic has been completed to make sure the infection is gone (Schuiling & Likis, 2020).

Write a reply to this classmate’s post

I conducted this week’s discussion board exercise using Radware’s Appwall firewall and Windows     Defender vulnerability scanner. I used version 7.5.7:94 of Appwall and kept a log of which ports were open before and after activating the firewall. Several ports were listed as open and listening while the Appwall firewall was running. Many ports were identified as active and listening but ports 135 and 123 were the most interesting. Remote Procedure Call (RPC) port 135 is used in client/server applications such as Exchange clients  (speedguide.net, 2018) . This port can be used for legitimate VPN connections but can also be used to malicious activity. TCP port 135 can be used to conduct denial of service (DoS) attacks, messenger popup attacks, and worm intrusions if not monitored and controlled  (speedguide.net, 2018) . UDP port 123 is the Network Time Protocol (NTP) port used for synchronizing time across networks.

There were several different ports open after running the scan without the Appwall firewall. FTP port 21 and TCP port 25 were both open and listening during this second scan. Port 21 is the file transport protocol (FTP) port and is used to establish connections with other clients for data sharing. This port is a popular target for malicious hackers as they can use it to inject Trojans into your end device. This port should always be monitored for authorized connections and activity because hackers can use your client without your knowledge through port 21. Port 25 is used for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). Many email services use port 25 to send out emails. Many Internet Service Providers (ISPs) block port 25 to prevent its customers from spamming others  (mediatemple.net, 2018) . This is why care must also be taken while monitoring this port because spammers can abuse it to send overwhelming amounts of spam emails to victims.

Conduct a quantitative study on the potential correlation (link) between studying time and GPA.

Week 9 Assignment

You have been asked to conduct a quantitative study on the potential correlation (link) between studying time and GPA.

Being that you are new to the research field, you need to understand the basic elements of quantitative research.

In 500-600 words, research and examine the key elements involved in conducting quantitative research. As you discuss the key elements, also examine the strengths and weaknesses of quantitative research.

In this work, you must use your text as a source. You must also use an additional two scholarly sources. This assignment must also be in APA format.

Things to keep in mind when reporting the results of a study using quantitative methods:

  1. Explain the data collected and their statistical treatment as well as all relevant results in relation to the research problem you are investigating. Interpretation of results is not appropriate in this section.
  2. Report unanticipated events that occurred during your data collection. Explain how the actual analysis differs from the planned analysis. Explain your handling of missing data and why any missing data does not undermine the validity of your analysis.
  3. Explain the techniques you used to “clean” your data set.
  4. Choose a minimally sufficient statistical procedure; provide a rationale for its use and a reference for it. Specify any computer programs used.
  5. Describe the assumptions for each procedure and the steps you took to ensure that they were not violated.
  6. When using inferential statistics, provide the descriptive statistics, confidence intervals, and sample sizes for each variable as well as the value of the test statistic, its direction, the degrees of freedom, and the significance level [report the actual p value].
  7. Avoid inferring causality, particularly in nonrandomized designs or without further experimentation.
  8. Use tables to provide exact values; use figures to convey global effects. Keep figures small in size; include graphic representations of confidence intervals whenever possible.
  9. Always tell the reader what to look for in tables and figures.

bus IRAC

Use a newspaper, news magazine, or the internet (including articles posted on Canvas by instructor) to find a current article (if uncertain, please see the instructor to have your topic approved) related to business law to write about.  Briefly summarize your article and include some interesting facts or highlights. Lastly, and most importantly, discuss any concerns, issues, or thoughts you have about the subject matter raised in the article. This will be done by writing an IRAC (Issue, Rule, Analysis, Conclusion) about the article.

Topics for this IRAC include any one of these subjects: Ethics, Employment Law, Discrimination, or Sexual Harassment

IRAC Basics:

Summary – write a brief summary of the article or case (no more than one (1) page.  Four things to remember when writing a summary:

  • use your words and phrases, not the author’s
  • use key points only…no minute details.
  • represent the material accurately and fairly
  • cite your source!!!!!!!!

Issue(s) – are written in the form of questions!  These issues are questions one might ask regarding how the law applies to the article you have chosen.

Rules – are the laws/rules that the writer thinks may apply to the issues.

Analysis – is where the writer either proves or disproves the application of the rules to the issue question.  This is THEmajor focus of the paper….critical thinking must be applied.

Conclusion – will take one of two approaches.  First, if the court has decided the case, do you agree with the decision?  Why, or why not?  If the court has yet to make a decision, what do you think needs to be done, and why. Please note that the conclusion to this paper is different than with the Mini IRAC format.

There is no minimum or limitation to the length of the paper.  The writer’s approach is to be concise, organized, and complete in the presentation of the case. If you need any further clarification of this assignment, please make an appointment to see me during office hours.

Be sure to attach the news article/court case to your essay. If the article/case is not attached a score will not be given. The attachment can be in the form of a link to a web page.

Stakeholders

Scenario

After reviewing the new proposed vision from Healthy Dynamics that includes updated mission, focus area, and objectives, the CEO has decided to contract a project manager. The project manager understands the importance of identifying stakeholders early in the strategic planning process. The project manager will be responsible for the successful start of the planning strategy, implementation, review, control, and evaluation of the strategic plan. Other tasks include: gathering feedback from stakeholders, identifying areas of improvement, and making recommendations.

The project manager has asked you to provide a strategy map, identifying key stakeholders involved in achieving the objectives of the defined focus area. Some of the major stakeholders in the healthcare industry are physicians, employers, insurance companies, pharmaceutical firms, government agencies, and consumers (e.g., patients and employees). You will also need to make a list of relevant questions to solicit feedback from the stakeholders that will allow you to see where stakeholders stand when evaluated by the same key measures (survey questions).

Instructions

Design a Strategy Map (data table) using Microsoft Word that includes:

· Identifying the key stakeholders.

· What business or health industry does the stakeholder represent (e.g., wellness, pharmacy, health plans, non-profit, academia, etc.)?

· What are the stakeholders’ roles and responsibilities as it relates to the strategic plan?

· Indicate how often you will meet with the stakeholders.

· What type of power (e.g., financial, providers, users, influencers) will the stakeholder have in the success of the strategic plan?

· Include a timeline to show when you will engage each stakeholder.

Create a Stakeholder Survey that includes:

· Key questions to solicit feedback from stakeholders after your first meeting (both quantitative and qualitative) to identify potential solutions to anticipated issues that may be raised by the stakeholders?

· Questions should be aimed at how to improve the effectiveness of the stakeholder meetings and the satisfaction of the stakeholders during the planning process?

Your assignment should include a title page, a reference page, and a minimum of three scholarly sources
