Criminal justice administrators must be aware that the public maintains great interest in the operation of their agencies. Particularly when dangerous lawbreakers are involved, mistakes can be costly, and are reported publicly.

  • To what extent does an agency’s dependence on public opinion impede or encourage planned change?
  • What changes should the management of a troubled correctional facility make to keep the employees happy and prevent the public from going against the facility?
  • Provide an example of a significant research study done in the criminal justice field. How have the results of this research study revolutionized the working of the criminal justice system?
  • What are the positive effects of research in the criminal justice profession since the President’s Commission in 1967? What are the negative effects?

Question #1

Using the SPSS File 2, there are various number of variables with different measurement levels. You are asked to formulate 3 research questions from the data set and each research question applies a specific statistical test.

1. Chi-square

2. Correlation

3. Logistic Regression

(1.5 Marks)

Question #2

A convenience sample of 114 patients with hypertension were asked whether they are living with only hypertension or with hypertension and other chronic diseases. The researcher was interested in comparing results for BMId (coded as 0=>29.9 and 1= <29.9). The main question was: is there an association between comorbidity and BMI? For all statements below, assume 2-tailed test and alpha= .05.

1. Use the data set (SPSS File 1) and perform the six-steps process

2. Interpret the X2. Report in APA format, include the effect size (Phi) if significant, and write a brief interpretation statement about the proportion and results.

(5 Marks)

Question #3

Accordingly, the concept of patient activation refers to an individual’s willingness to perform a task. This concept was measured by the Patient Activation Measure (higher scores indicate higher activation levels). Hypertension disease knowledge was measured by the Hypertension Level Scale (higher scores indicate adequate knowledge of the disease). The participants were asked to rate from 0-100 the quality of healthcare provisions. After collecting the data, the researcher was interested in examining the association between certain variables, such as patient activation (PAM13, ratio level), quality of healthcare provisions (providpat, ratio level), and HTN disease knowledge (HKLscale, ratio level).

(5 Marks)

1. Use the data set (SPSS File 1) and perform the six-steps process to find out any relationship between these variables.

2. Write an interpretation about your results.

Question #4

Depression is a common problem among older adults. In research, the common instrument has been used to measure levels of depression is Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). A score of 24 or greater is considered a higher risk of depression while a score of 15 or less is a low risk of depression.  Numerous factors contribute to the development of depression among older adults. A researcher proposed lower levels of income (income, ratio level) and physical function (sf12phys ratio level) predict higher risks of depression (cesd, ratio level).

(6 Marks)

1. Use the SPSS File 2 and perform six steps-process (ignore the third step) to examine if income and physical function influence depression.

2. Write an interpretation about your results and draw a model.

6 page essay

Final Paper

George Ritzer and Benjamin Barber have both argued that the globalization of our economic system, through the rise of multinational corporations and the expansion of capitalist systems, has led to a homogenization of local culture. Virtually everywhere you go in the world people eat pizza, drink soda, wear blue jeans, listen to rock and roll music, and watch movies about superheroes. Ritzer and Barber assume this is bad, because globalization represents a loss of cultural diversity and heritage.

For the Final Paper, you will write a six-page essay evaluating the effect of globalization on local communities and their unique cultural heritages. The thesis of your paper should answer the following question: Is globalization good for local communities? Why or why not?

To answer this question, you may need to consider some of the following questions:

  • What are the most important features of globalization?
  • How does globalization affect local cultures?
  • How should local communities respond to globalization?

Remember that globalization has economic, political, and environmental aspects that effect local cultures in different ways. For example, issues of economic development, human rights, demographic shifts, and political stability might be relevant to your analysis.

You must use at least six scholarly sources. While you may wish to do additional outside research for this project, you should first refer to the required resources for this class. Obviously, the Ritzer and Barber readings are relevant here, but so are others. For example, the Allison Jaggar article, “Is Globalization Good for Women?” (see Week One), provides a template for this assignment. Jaggar does a good job of showing how to start with a clear definition of globalization before moving to an analysis of globalization’s effect on a specific category of people. Additionally, Kwame Anthony Appiah’s essay, “The Case for Contamination” (Week Two); Thomas Friedman’s column, “Big Mac II” (Week Three); and Zygmunt Bauman’s article, “Glocalization and Hybridity” (Week 4), each provide a different analysis of how local communities can respond to the threat of cultural homogenization posed by globalization.

APA, Four-Five Page Paper With A Strong Thesis (Not Including The Title And Reference Pages). The Description Is Below:

Article Critique

Investigate professional journals and locate two articles pertaining to organizational behavior that are of interest to you. You are to critique each of the two articles according to the instructions below. The articles should be less than three years old. You are encouraged to use the ProQuest Database found in the Ashford Online Library.

Each one- to two- page critique (a total of two to  four pages for both critiques) must include the following three parts and must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the approved APA style guide (including title page, in text citations and reference list). Include both article reviews into one document for submission to WayPoint (do not submit two documents).

Identification of the Article – Provide the reader with enough information about your article so he/she will be able to locate the article.

Summary of the Article – List the main points that the author has tried to establish (i.e., 1, 2, 3 or first, second, third). There normally will be three to five main points. If you are summarizing a court case, you should discuss: What provision of the law was at issue? Briefly state the facts of the case. What legal tests were applied? Were there any unusual elements in the case?

Your Critique – Provide your reaction (insightful, critical, and logical) to the points that the author tried to make, or an overall critique of the entire article. A simple statement of agreement or disagreement is not sufficient. While you may make such a statement by way of introduction to your reaction, you must clearly and logically state the reasons for the position that you have taken.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric.

Event Planning

MPR events are all around us. They can be large, small, formal, or informal and can often include more than one organization. Using the company that you further developed in the Unit 3 Individual Project, plan an event that will be a good fit for it.

Part 1: Creating an Event

  • Develop the event. Explain how it aligns with the firm’s mission with a definable target audience.
  • Describe how you will link the image of the firm and the event. Keep in mind that people attend events mainly because of a connection with the theme or topic, not because of the sponsoring organization.
  • Create a presence so that the firm’s message and sponsorship will be remembered.
  • Provide a souvenir so that people will remember your event and company.

Part 1 of the Individual Project should be 3 pages in length.

Part 2: Notifying Connectors

  • Notify connectors before the event. Create a 1-page pitch to the media.
  • Write a 1-page recap of the event with quotes of attendees.

Part 2 of the Individual Project should be 2 pages in length.

Your assignment should contain a cover page, an abstract page, and a reference page in addition to the body. The body of the paper should be 5 pages, starting with a brief 1-paragraph introduction and ending with a short conclusion. The entire submission will be 8–10 pages in length.

Please submit your assignment as a Word document in APA format using the attached TEMPLATE.

PROJECT INTEGRATION MANAGEMENT PAPER

Manage Your Health, Inc. (MYH) is a Fortune 500 company that provides a variety of healthcare services across the globe. MYH has more than 20,000 full-time employees and more than 5,000 part-time employees. MYH recently updated its strategic plan; key goals include reducing internal costs, increasing cross-selling of products, and exploiting new Web-based technologies to help employees, customers, and suppliers work together to improve the development and delivery of healthcare products and services. Below are some ideas the IT department has developed for supporting these strategic goals:

1.    Recreation and Wellness Intranet Project: Provide an application on the current intranet to help employees improve their health. A recent study found that MYH, Inc. pays 20 percent more than the industry average for employee healthcare premiums, primarily due to the poor health of its employees. You believe that this application will help improve employee health within one year of its rollout so that you can negotiate lower health insurance premiums, providing net savings of at least $30/employee/year for full-time employees over the next four years. This application would include the following capabilities:

Allow employees to register for company-sponsored recreational programs, such as soccer, softball, bowling, jogging, and walking.

Allow employees to register for company-sponsored classes and programs to help them manage their weight, reduce stress, stop smoking, and manage other health-related issues.

Track data on employee involvement in these recreational and health-management programs.

Offer incentives for people to join the programs and do well in them (e.g., incentives for achieving weight goals, winning sports team competitions, etc.).

2.    Health Coverage Costs Business Model: Develop an application to track employee healthcare expenses and company healthcare costs. Healthcare premiums continue to increase, and the company has changed insurance carriers several times in the past 10 years. This application should allow business modeling of various scenarios as well as tracking and analyzing current and past employee healthcare expenses and company healthcare costs. This application must be secure and run on the current intranet so several managers and analysts can access it and download selected data for further analysis. The new application must also import data from the current systems that track employee expenses submitted to the company and the company’s costs to the insurance provider. You believe that having this data will help you revise policies concerning employee contributions to healthcare premiums and help you negotiate for lower premiums with insurance companies. You estimate that this application would save your company about $20/employee/year for full-time employees over the next four years and cost about $100,000 to develop.

3.    Cross-Selling System: Develop an application to improve cross-selling to current customers. The current sales management system has separate sections for major product and service categories and different sales reps based on those products and services. You see great opportunities to increase sales to current customers by providing discounts when they purchase multiple products and services. You estimate that this system would increase profits by $1 million each year for the next three years and cost about $800,000 each year for development and maintenance.

4.    Web-Enhanced Communications System: Develop a Web-based application to improve development and delivery of products and services. There are currently several incompatible systems related to the development and delivery of products and services to customers. This application would allow customers and suppliers to provide suggestions, enter orders, view the status and history of orders, and use electronic commerce capabilities to purchase and sell their products. You estimate that this system would save your company about $2 million each year for three years after implementation. You estimate that the system will take one year and $3 million to develop and require 20 percent of development costs each year to maintain.

Tasks1.    Summarize each of the proposed projects in the Running Case section using a simple table format suitable for presentation to top management. Include the name of each project, identify how each one supports business strategies, assess the potential financial benefits and other benefits of each project, and provide your initial assessment of the value of each project. Write your results in a one- to two-page memo to top management, including appropriate back-up information and calculations.

2.    Evaluate the four projects in the Running Case section by preparing a weighted scoring model using the template provided on the companion Web site for this text. Develop at least four criteria, assign weights to each criterion, assign scores, and then calculate the weighted scores. Print the spreadsheet and bar chart with the results. Also write a one-page paper that describes this weighted scoring model and the results.

3.    Prepare a business case for the recreation and wellness intranet project. Assume that the project will take six months to complete and cost about $200,000. Use the business case template provided on the companion Web site for this text.

4.    Prepare a project charter for the recreation and wellness intranet project. Assume that the project will take six months to complete and cost about $200,000. Use the project charter template provided in this text and the sample project charter provided in Table 4-1 as guides(SEE ATTACHED).

5.    Prepare a change request for the recreation and wellness intranet project, using the template provided on the companion Web site for this text. Be creative when making up information.
