Discussion week 14

The following case for discussion is from the eText, chapter 18, page 527:

Steven and Marisol are a young married couple who are concerned about passing genetic diseases to their children.  Members of Steven’s family have been diagnosed with Huntington’s disease, an incurable genetic disorder that causes cognitive problems, difficulties with movement that ultimately require full-time nursing care, and reduced life expectancy.  Members of Marisol’s family have tested positive for a mutation of the BRCA genes that are strongly associated with breast and ovarian cancer.

At a family reunion, they are discussing their decision to use in vitro fertilization and preimplantation genetic screening of embryos.  Seven’s cousin, Valerie, is appalled.  She is opposed to the idea of in vitro fertilization and to the entire idea of genetic screening.

Valerie says, “You can’t just choose the babies you want to have.  God will only give you the challenges He knows you can handle.  And if a child is born with a disease, your job is to love that child, no matter what.”

Steven is speechless.  But Marisol is not.  “But if we can guarantee that our child is healthy and will live a happy life, shouldn’t we do that?  We don’t want to raise a child who is doomed to genetic diseases.”

Valerie shakes her head.  “There is no way to know,” she says.  “Kids get sick and die.  Some who have diseases get better.  You can’t control everything.  And besides, that test-tube baby stuff is really expensive.  How can you afford it?”

Now Steven replies, “We want to invest in this procedure now because it might save money in the long run.  I’ve seen how much Huntington’s costs a family – so have you.  I’d rather pay to prevent it now than have to deal with the costs later.”

Valerie responds, “That sounds really rude.  It sounds like you resent people who get sick and need your help.  The whole thing is very selfish.”

Questions for discussion – Answer any two of the following questions:

With whom do you agree here: Steven and Marisol or Steven’s cousin, Valerie?  Explain.

Is it wrong to want to prevent genetic disease through use of IVF and preimplantation genetic screening?   Is it a wise investment?  Should it be covered by health insurance?

Is it selfish to want to control your child’s genes?  Explain your answer.

What about using IVF for selecting the gender of the baby you want to have?  Explain your reasoning.

These options are available to couples today: LINK

Interview Script

Interview Script

Continue with the industry you  selected in Unit II for this assignment (Human Resources). For this Unit VII Assignment,  write a script for a radio/television show as if you were interviewing  an expert concerning topics discussed in this unit.  Include input from both the  interviewer and interviewee standpoint. What questions would you ask as  the interviewer? What answers would you give to those questions as the  interviewee? When writing your questions and answers, keep in mind that  you have already learned a lot about your industry through earlier  assignments in this course. It is suggested that you review your  responses to those assignments before beginning this one.  In your interview script, address the following topics:

  • the structure of the Federal Reserve,
  • the functions of money,
  • six qualities of ideal money,
  • the tools of monetary policy used by the Federal Reserve to manipulate the money supply in the United States,
  • the current status of monetary policy regarding a contractionary or expansionary stance in the United States, and
  • the potential impacts on your selected industry over the next 2 years of this monetary policy stance.

Your script must be a minimum of four  pages (1,000 words, double-spaced). Adhere to APA Style when creating  citations and references for this assignment. APA formatting, however,  is not necessary.

On February 25th, 2021 Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski proposed a bill to the United States Senate amending the Public Health Service Act to include a program that helps better identify and treat patients at risk of suicide. S.467, known as the Effective Suicide Screening and Assessment in the Emergency Department Act of 2021 has currently been referred to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (Congress, 2021). If this bill passes, policies and procedures will be implemented for identification and assessment of individuals at risk of suicide and improving coordination of care upon discharge for the individual. The passing of this bill will allow certain critical access facilities to be eligible for a grant which could be used to provide education for their staff members on proper assessment and identification of at-risk patients, to establish and implement new policies and procedures used to better care for these patients, and even hire behavioral healthcare staff (psychologists, psychiatrists, etc) able to provide proper care to identified patients (2021).

800,000 people die annually from suicide and suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the United States (Brenner et. al., 2020). 8% of individuals who present to the ED have had recent suicidal ideations (2020). The Suicide Prevention Resource Center reports individuals at risk for suicide often seek help at an emergency department and up to 70% of patients who leave the ED after a suicide attempt do not go to their first outpatient appointment (SPRC, n.d.). With this knowledge, it is obvious that there is a brief period of time that medical staff can intervene and a need to improve the continuity of care for suicidal patients upon discharge. I strongly believe there is an ample amount of information related to caring for suicidal patients in the emergency room setting. This is a setting many patients seek care in and having trained staff to properly determine if each individual is at risk is crucial to changing their path and helping them obtain appropriate care.

250 discussion- writing improvement

Writing For the Mass Media by James Stovall, reinforces this concept in the very first chapter, Sit Down and Write:

“Writers for the mass media must understand the implications of what they do. Part of the writing process is developing a sense of what it means to communicate with a mass audience. Writers should understand that they are no longer writing for an individual (an essay for an English teacher, a text message to a friend) but for a larger audience.

Nor are they writing for themselves. Much of the writing done in K-12 education is justified as a means of self-expression for students. This writing is a valuable exercise for all individuals, but the mass-media environment, self-expression ranks second to information. Audiences are interested in the writer’s information and ideas, not in how the writer feels or thinks. This fact drives the sparse, unadorned style of writing that the media demand.

Self-expression is less important partly because in most media environments writing is a collaborative effort. Several writers may work together to produce a single piece of writing. Editors—people whose job it is to read the writing of others—are employed at every level to improve the writing whenever possible. The editing process is inseparable from the writing process. Writers for the mass media must possess an active sense of integrity about what they do. This integrity serves as a regulator for their behavior, making them unwilling to accept inaccuracies or imprecision in the writing process and unable to live with less than a very high standard of personal and intellectual honesty. They must understand and assimilate the ethical standards of their profession.

Writers for the mass media also understand enough about the process of writing to know that they can always improve. They view their craft with generous humility. Every writer, no matter how experienced or talented, begins with a blank page or an empty computer screen. The writer puts the words there, and no amount of experience or talent guarantees success. A good writer is always willing to do whatever it takes to improve the craft.”

Instructions:

After reading the above direct quote from your textbook, discuss how your writing and/or perception of media writing has changed or improved during this class. Think about your progress as a media writer. What did you learn about media writing this semester? Using examples from the class and the textbook, your discussion should include the following:

  1. What challenges did you face in learning how to write for the media? Explain.
  2. What was the most challenging assignment? Why?
  3. What was your favorite assignment? Why?
  4. What chapter did you learn the most from in the book? Why?

This post is about self-reflection and growth. Tell us about how you have grown as a writer in this course.

Psychological Assessment Report

The Reason for Referral and Background Information
In this section, students will describe the reasons for the referral and relevant background information for all stakeholders from the chosen personality assessment scenario.

Assessment Procedures
In this section, students will include a bulleted list of the test(s) and other assessment measures recommended for the evaluation of the given scenario. In addition to the assessment(s) initially provided in the personality assessment scenario from the weekly discussion, students must include at least three other measures appropriate for the scenario.

Immediately following the bulleted list, students will include a narrative description of the assessments. In the narrative, students will examine and comment on the major theoretical approaches, research methods, and assessment instruments appropriate for the situation and stakeholder needs. In order to defend the choice of recommended assessments, students will evaluate current research in the field of personality theories and provide examples of how these assessments are valid for use in the chosen scenario. For additional support of these recommended assessment measures, students will evaluate the standardization, reliability and validity, and cultural considerations present in these personality assessments that make them the most appropriate tools for the given scenario. Students will conclude the narrative by assessing types of personality measurements and research designs often used in scenarios like the one chosen and providing a rationale for why some of those assessments were not included.

General Observations and Impressions
In this section, students will describe general observations of the client during the assessment period provided in the chosen personality assessment scenario and explain whether the client’s behavior might have had a negative impact on the test results. Students will analyze and comment on how the APA’s Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct affected the implementation of the personality assessment during the initial process. Based on the observations and analysis, students will assess the validity of the evaluation and make a recommendation for or against the necessity for additional testing.

Test Results and Interpretations
In this section, students will analyze the results of the assessment provided in the chosen personality assessment scenario. Based on the score, students will interpret the personality factors (conscientiousness, openness, emotional stability, introversion, extroversion, work drive, self-directedness, etc.) that are present.

Note: Typically, this section reports test results and is the longest section of a psychological assessment report because the results of all the tests administered are analyzed and reported. Some psychologists report all test results individually, while others may integrate only a portion of the test results. However, in this report, only the assessment presented in the chosen personality assessment scenario will be included.

Summary and Recommendations
In this section, students will summarize the test results.  They will provide a complete explanation for the evaluation, the procedures and measures used, and the results and include any recommendations translating the evaluation into strategies and suggestions to support the client. Finally, students will provide any conclusions and diagnostic impressions drawn from the previous sections of the report.

Answer the question my professor wrote please

My professor wrote this about the assignment below you did for me. I need you to answer her question and please be specific : Thank you for your comments.  You provide some relevant mechanisms/steps for quality of improvement in general, but could you be more specific to the case study?   For example, what outcomes are of interest to physicians, nurses and other clinicians dealing with COVID-19 patients  and the health system?   What might a plan be to attain the outcome.

This is the case study just in case you need it :The Covid-19 outbreak continues to overwhelm our health care system.  Physicians, nurses, and other clinicians are experiencing fatigue, and some are walking away.  There is a need for increased population-level prevention efforts.  What can public health do?  What are they doing now and how can they build on this?  How can public health and health care partner to help combat this most recent surge in positive Covid-19 diagnoses?

The social determinants of health have played a great role by contributing to health inequities in the control of Covid-19 outbreak which results into the need of the public health to address the factors thus reduce the inequities. Among the key contributing social determinants of health include income and social status, education and literacy, personal health practices, working conditions and social environments. These factors contribute to the poor management of the spread of the COVID-19 which in turn has led to the overwhelming of the health care systems. For instance, due to low income and high poverty levels, people are not able to access private medical care and prevention techniques against the disease. This results into majority of the people accessing the free public health care services facilitated by the governments. The high population of the patients attending the public hospitals cause overcrowding, all seeking the scarce resources available hence overwhelming of the health care system. Lack of education as a social determinant of health has contributed to poor management of the disease thus increase in the spread of the virus in regions where people have low literacy levels in relation to the management of the disease. Poor working conditions where the employees are not provided with protective gears and masks or poor observance of social distance has also contributed to the spread of the virus hence overwhelming of the healthcare system (Ataguba, 2020). The public health has a role in reducing the health inequities through various strategies. One of the strategies to be implemented is reduction of the disparities by ensuring there is increase in medical and health access through establishment of clinics that have all relevant resources required. Another strategy is sensitization of the public on prevention of the corona virus which cause the disease which can be done through convening conferences or through mass media (Elavarasan, 2020).

Quality of the Health Service

Quality of health service is important in the control and prevention of the COVID-19 outbreak through several ways. One of the ways is that the quality of services provided in the healthcare system determines the outcome of the patient. This is because it determines the safety of care which focus in reduction of risks and medical errors which would result into increase of the spread or increased mortality rates. The other factor is timeliness which is an important aspect in responding to a COVID-19 19 patient. It also determines the efficiency and whether the healthcare service is equitable to all (Harvey, 2017).

             Quality Improvement

In improving the quality of health service, various mechanisms can be applied through a well-developed improvement model. The first step is determining the specific outcomes aimed at achieving or the changes desired in the system. The second step is identifying the appropriate measures to track the success of the improvement process to ensure the initial plan is followed to attain the outcome. The third mechanism to applying is identifying the key changes that will be tested in determining the results of the process (Harvey, 2017).

Week-6

After reading chapter 6 from the attached text book and below paragraph answer the following questions. Answer as through as possible with your own words and strictly no plagiarism/copy paste.

One of the benefits of employing a management consultant is the value they add to the client with their expertise as a diagnostician. The process utilized to complete an accurate diagnosis often strains the consultant-client relationship. Both parties might be fearful of uncovering difficult situations during the process. The successful completion of an effective problem diagnosis requires an examination of the external environment, the technology, the economics of the business, the behavior of all members of the organization and the corporate culture. The consultant is tasked with asking the tough questions to managers that can lead to the managers having to justify why they made certain choices or ignored certain factors that appeared to be important.

1) Discuss how you would convince the client that this diagnosis process is necessary. Identify and support at least three reasons you would give to the client to make your case.

2) How would you ensure that members of the client’s team are part of the diagnostic process? What tasks would you assign them and why?

3) Explain how you would present to the client negative information you uncovered in the diagnostic process which should have been addressed previously.
