B.  Literature Review on Developmental Disability (20 points)Students will conduct a literature review on a particular developmental disability that interests them. Students will choose their own topics. Describe the etiology, epidemiology, course, diagnostic and assessment procedures, interventions, challenges, strengths, community support programs, societal views, cultural issues, etc. An 8 to 10 page paper, not including title page and reference section, is required. Students should select at least 8 articles from peer-reviewed journals (e.g., Journal of Autism and Developmental Disabilities) to be included in the paper (DO NOT include articles found on the internet, such as Wikipedia). The articles referenced by the student in the paper should be listed in the Reference section at the end of the paper. Course materials (readings from books and journals) should also be incorporated in the paper. As a helping professional, how do you begin to talk to military personnel about their war and combat experience? What approaches, skills, and sensitivities do you need to work with this population?

In Discussion 1, you considered the impact of war and combat on military personnel. In this Discussion, you consider the skills and sensitivities that you, as a helping professional, need to support and work with military personnel. A helping professional’s training is extensive. Most training programs require you to complete a self-assessment of the skills and sensitivities you need to work in the field. Training to work with military personnel is no different.

To prepare for this Discussion, review the media in the resources, and select one interviewee to address. Analyze the interviewee’s war and combat experience and consider the skills and sensitivities you would need if you were the helping professional assigned to treat this service member.

Post an explanation of the skills and sensitivities you would need to possess if you were to talk about the personal effects of war and combat with the individual in the interview you selected. Describe one skill or sensitivity you might need to develop or enhance in order to work effectively with military personnel who experienced war or combat. Finally, explain how you might develop these skills.

You have assumed the head leadership position over a small department within a public sector agency. You have inherited a small but diverse team of employees. 

Your staff consists of the following individuals: 

Melanie has been with the organization for close to 10 years and spends much of her day surfing social media sites. She enjoys her job for the perceived job security and benefits but has little interest in pushing herself for additional monetary gain. When confronted about her social media use and lack of a desire to advance herself, she complains that she does not have anyone to “look up to” within the organization. 

Patrick is the most senior employee. Although he has an excellent record, he is going through a very difficult divorce and is only about one year away from retirement. He has become increasingly preoccupied with these matters. Regardless, having previously served in the military and having worked public service for his entire professional life, he expects much out of himself and has expressed a keen desire to involve himself with your managerial decision-making processes as soon as he is able to sort out some of his home issues. 

Tom, the newest employee, is fresh out of college. He is young and energetic, although not a week goes by where you do not catch him browsing salary surveys or private sector job listings; nevertheless, he is an overly productive employee, and he confides in you that he is worried that he is producing much more than his salary seems to reflect. He also questions the impact that the organization’s work and his own work, in particular, are actually having on anyone.

To complete this assignment, you will need address the components below. 

• Develop a concise motivation profile on each of the staff members. 
• Correlate motivational theories to this real-world scenario. 
• Summarize leadership strategies related to such aspects as work life stages, expected responses to rewards and punishments, and the degree to which followers feel they fit the ideal motivation mold of public sector employees. 
• Consider how not being mindful of appropriate leadership strategies can be harmful to organizations.

You have had plenty of practice with data analysis in the Discussions and hopefully you have received helpful and encouraging feedback from your colleagues. Now, for the last time in the course, it is time once again to put all of that good practice to use and answer a social research question using categorical statistical tools. As you begin the Assignment, be sure and pay close attention to the assumptions of the test. Specifically, make sure the variables are categorical level variables.

For this Assignment, you will consider three different scenarios. Each of these scenarios include a research question. You will examine each scenario, choose a categorical data analysis and run a sample test.

To prepare for this Assignment:

• Review Chapters 10 and 11 of the Frankfort-Nachmias & Leon-Guerrero course text and the media program found in this week’s Learning Resources related to bivariate categorical tests.
• Using the SPSS software, open the Afrobarometer dataset found in this week’s Learning Resources.
• Next, review the Chi Square Scenarios found in this week’s Learning Resources and consider each research scenario for this Assignment.
• Based on the dataset you chose and for each research scenario provided, using the SPSS software, choose a categorical data analysis and run a sample test.
• Once you perform your categorical data analysis, review Chapter 11 of the Wagner text to understand how to copy and paste your output into your Word document.

For this Assignment:

Write a 1- to 2-paragraph analysis of your categorical data results for each research scenario. If you are using the Afrobarometer Dataset, report the mean of Q1 (Age). In your analysis, display the data for the output. Based on your results, provide an explanation of what the implications of social change might be.

 Week 11 Scenarios

You wish to test whether a relationship between trust in the police and presence of democracy (measured with dichotomous variable) exists in Africa. In addition, please comment on what could be influencing the results you obtained. 

In September 2010, Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge. The suicide occurred after the 18-year-old discovered that his intimate encounter with another man in his dorm room was broadcast on the Internet. The offenders, Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei, set up a webcam and live streamed Clementi’s encounter without his knowledge. In April 2011, Ravi was indicted on 15 counts, including invasion of privacy and bias intimidation. Wei was offered a plea bargain to testify against Ravi. Neither offender was charged with the death of Tyler Clementi. Questions remain as to whether this was merely a display of cyber-hate or if this incident could legally be deemed a hate crime.

For this assignment, review the Tyler Clementi case and think about whether or not Clementi’s right to privacy was violated. Consider whether the offense should be considered cyber-hate or a hate crime. Then think about why the offenders were not legally charged with Clementi’s death.
