Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Practice Nurse There has been a continuous increase in demand for advanced health care, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses in the community and hospital setting. Specialized nursing care is supposed to provide access to quality health care at an affordable cost. Previously, some functions were reserved for physicians who are limited in number. Currently, primary care nurse practitioners and advanced practice nurses have come out to fill the gap and offer affordable services. The purpose of this paper is to compare the roles, differences, and similarities for both primary care nurse practitioners and advanced practice nurse roles.

Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Currently, a nurse practitioner requires a minimum of a master’s of science degree in nursing with a future doctor of nursing practice to be registered. This is a state law put in place to govern the training, entry, and practice of nursing. The laws vary from state to state (Giwa et al, 2020). Primary care nurse practitioners are responsible for taking health history for patients. History helps determine the past medical and surgical issues encountered by the patient. Moreover, they also conduct physical examinations from head to toe and systemic reviews to determine current health issues affecting the patient. Another main role of the nurse practitioner is to conduct a comprehensive assessment, diagnose plan and treat acute and chronic illnesses. By doing this, they act as primary health care providers for patients in communities, clinics, and other mobile settings (Harris, 2017). They are also tasked to issue referrals for specialized care in specialized areas.

Some cases of patients require specialized care like a neurosurgical review, integumentary care, child specialized clinics, and geriatric care, and a nurse practitioner is responsible for making this referral. Primary nurse practitioners can give prescriptions to patients. Their practice of prescribing is controlled by state law. They are also restricted to the prescription of various medications to control misuse. They interpret laboratory results and radiological examinations (Saftner & Ruud, 2017). Additionally, they mostly perform their duties in community and ambulatory clinics, private facilities, and long-term care clinics. The practice is widespread with a variety of specializations to choose from. Advanced Practice Registered Nurse APRNs on the other hand, have gone and specialized in some areas of practice.   For instance, child health, certified nurse-midwife, and certified nurse anesthetist. Similarly, they also hold a master of science in nursing. The typical duties for APRNs depend on their areas of specialization (Giwa et al, 2020). Unlike primary care practitioners, who carry out general care in the clinics, they perform specialized duties. APRNS also have prescriptive authority depending on their areas of practice. Although some are restricted, they can do this under the supervision of physicians. An advanced registered nurse practitioner can work in any health care setting that provides specialized care. For instance, the main area for nurse anesthetists is the surgical setting while a nurse-midwife is women’s health and pregnancy care (Harris, 2017).

APRNs are also required to assess, diagnose and treat patients in their area of practice. They take a comprehensive health history and conduct physical assessments to understand well the condition of the patient before any medical intervention is carried out. Similarities Both the nurse practitioners and the APRNs conduct appropriate patient education which is an important element of healthcare. It helps patients make informed decisions and choices on their health status. An advanced nurse practitioner is known to offer credible information on the health status of the population, enhance health-seeking behaviors, and promote disease prevention (Saftner & Ruud, 2017). The nurse develops and implements strategies that help an area access health services smoothly. This is done well when the nurse researches to determine the real needs concerning health in a community. Communication of the above roles to the health care provider and consumer requires good communication skills. The roles should be clearly stated and names displayed on their official name badges. Health care providers should familiarize themselves with the role of both nurse practitioners and APRNs to avoid work-related conflicts In conclusion, both nurse practitioners and advanced practice nurses have a good clinical basis and theoretical background. They provide clinical nursing and practice directly to patients in their areas. This makes a variety of services available in the area such as assessment, consultation, diagnosis, and prescription to minor and uncomplicated illnesses. Their availability relieves the population from the burden of seeking specialized consultations and prescriptions, however, APRNs have specialized areas of practice in the clinical setting.

Healthy People in Healthy Communities What Is Healthy People? Healthy People is a set of goals and objectives with 10-year targets designed to guide national health promotion and disease prevention efforts to improve the health of all people in the United States. Released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services each decade, Healthy People reflects the idea that setting objectives and providing science-based benchmarks to track and monitor progress can motivate and focus action. Healthy People 2020 represents the fourth generation of this initiative, building on a foundation of three decades of work. Healthy People is used as a tool for strategic management by the federal government, states, communities, and many other public- and private-sector partners. Its comprehensive set of objectives and targets is used to measure progress for health issues in specific populations, and serves as (1) a foundation for prevention and wellness activities across various sectors and within the federal government, and (2) a model for measurement at the state and local levels. What’s New in Healthy People 2020? Healthy People 2020 is committed to the vision of a society in which all people live long, healthy lives. This decade, several new features will help make this vision a reality: t Emphasizing ideas of health equity that address social determinants of health and promote health across all stages of life t Replacing the traditional print publication with an interactive Web site as the main vehicle for dissemination t Maintaining a Web site that allows users to tailor information to their needs and explore evidencebased resources for implementation The Mission, Vision, and Goals of Healthy People 2020 Vision—A society in which all people live long, healthy lives. Mission—Healthy People 2020 strives to: t Identify nationwide health improvement priorities t Increase public awareness and understanding of the determinants of health, disease, and disability, and the opportunities for progress t Provide measurable objectives and goals that are applicable at the national, state, and local levels t Engage multiple sectors to take actions to strengthen policies and improve practices that are driven by the best available evidence and knowledge t Identify critical research, evaluation, and data collection needs Overarching Goals t Attain high quality, longer lives free of preventable disease, disability, injury, and premature death t Achieve health equity, eliminate disparities, and improve the health of all groups t Create social and physical environments that promote good health for all t Promote quality of life, healthy development, and healthy behaviors across all life stages Foundation Health Measures Healthy People 2020 includes broad, cross-cutting measures without targets that will be used to assess progress toward achieving the four overarching goals. Overarching Goals of Healthy People 2020 Foundation Measures Category Measures of Progress Attain high quality, longer lives free of preventable disease, disability, injury, and premature death General Health Status r Life expectancy r Healthy life expectancy r Physical and mental unhealthy days r Self-assessed health status r Limitation of activity r Chronic disease prevalence r International comparisons (where available) Achieve health equity, eliminate disparities, and improve the health of all groups Disparities and Inequity Disparities/inequity to be assessed by: r Race/ethnicity r Gender r Socioeconomic status r Disability status r Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender status r Geography Create social and physical environments that promote good health for all Social Determinants of Health Determinants can include: r Social and economic factors r Natural and built environments r Policies and programs Promote quality of life, healthy development, and healthy behaviors across all life stages Health-Related Quality of Life and Well-Being r Well-being/satisfaction r Physical, mental, and social health-related quality of life r Participation in common activities New to Healthy People 2020: Leading Health Indicators Healthy People 2020 includes a small set of high-priority health issues that represent significant threats to the public’s health. Selected from the Healthy People 2020 objectives, the 26 Leading Health Indicators (LHIs), organized under 12 topic areas, address determinants of health that promote quality of life, healthy behaviors, and healthy development across all life stages. The LHIs provide a way to assess the health of the Nation for key areas, facilitate collaboration across diverse sectors, and motivate action at the national, State, and local levels. Leading Health Indicators 12 Topic Areas 26 Leading Health Indicators Access to Health Services r Persons with medical insurance r Persons with a usual primary care provider Clinical Preventive Services r Adults who receive a colorectal cancer screening based on the most recent guidelines r Adults with hypertension whose blood pressure is under control r Adult diabetic population with an A1c value greater than 9 percent r Children aged 19 to 35 months who receive the recommended doses of diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP); polio; measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR); Haemophilus in!uenza type b (Hib); hepatitis B; varicella; and pneumococcal conjugate (PCV) vaccines Environmental Quality r Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeding 100 r Children aged 3 to 11 years exposed to secondhand smoke Injury and Violence r Fatal injuries r Homicides Maternal, Infant, and Child Health r Infant deaths r Preterm births Mental Health r Suicides r Adolescents who experience major depressive episodes (MDEs) Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity r Adults who meet current Federal physical activity guidelines for aerobic physical activity and muscle-strengthening activity r Adults who are obese r Children and adolescents who are considered obese r Total vegetable intake for persons aged 2 years and older Oral Health r Persons aged 2 years and older who used the oral health care system in the past 12 months Reproductive and Sexual Health r Sexually active females aged 15–44 years who received reproductive health services in the past 12 months r Persons living with HIV who know their serostatus Social Determinants r Students who graduate with a regular diploma 4 years after starting ninth grade Substance Abuse r Adolescents using alcohol or any illicit drugs during the past 30 days r Adults engaging in binge drinking during the past 30 days Tobacco r Adults who are current cigarette smokers r Adolescents who smoked cigarettes in the past 30 days Leading Health Indicators Framework The Healthy People 2020 LHIs were selected and organized using a health determinants and health outcomes by life stages conceptual framework. This approach is intended to draw attention to “upstream” determinants that affect the public’s health and contribute to health disparities from infancy through old age, thereby highlighting strategic opportunities to improve health and quality of life for all Americans. Collectively, the LHIs support Healthy People 2020’s overarching goals. t The LHIs, Health Determinants, and Health Disparities Recognizing that factors related to social and physical environments, multi-sector policies, individual behaviors, health services, and biology and genetics influence the ability of individuals and communities to make progress on these indicators, the LHIs will be examined using a health determinants perspective. Addressing determinants is key to improving health disparities and overall population health. t The LHIs Across the Life Stages The LHIs will also be examined using a life stages perspective. This approach recognizes that specific disease outcomes, risk factors, and health determinants need to be addressed at various stages across the lifespan and highlights the importance of tailoring strategies to fit a particular age group. Taking Action To Improve Everyone’s Health The LHIs are intended to motivate action at the national, State, and local levels, as well as among individuals, families, and communities. The indicators can help us best focus our energies—at home and in our communities, worksites, businesses, or States—to live better and longer. Visit www.healthypeople.gov to learn more about the LHIs and what action is being taken to address them. Blogs, LinkedIn articles, and other online publications are channels of communication through which people can share their experience, perspectives, and expertise directly with readers—and readers can respond via electronic comments. While these electronic channels are usually not as credible as scholarly publications, they are a great way for readers to learn about new topics and for writers to share their insight and expertise with a virtual audience. They are also often supported with references to case studies, reports, and other research.

In this assignment, you will share your knowledge of what globalization is and why organizations consider global expansion by writing an article intended for a virtual, professional audience.

Prompt

Create an article that could be shared online that defines key terms, explains fundamental concepts, and shares relevant examples as to why domestic businesses should consider expansion into global markets. The article should have a brief introduction that explains what readers will gain from the post, a body that provides content supported with textual evidence from the course resources, and a conclusion that summarizes key takeaways for the reader.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

  • Types of Business Environments: Differentiate between domestic and international business environments by defining and providing key characteristics of each type, using supporting evidence.
  • Example Organizations: Identify examples of domestic and international organizations and explain how they meet the criteria for each type of organization, using supporting evidence.
  • Benefits of Expansion: Explain the key benefits of international and global expansion for domestic businesses, providing specific examples and using supporting evidence.
  • Ethical Considerations: Explain the role of ethics in making business decisions regarding expansion to a new market and how ethical decision-making frameworks can be used to help make these decisions. Use supporting evidence as appropriate.

Guidelines for Submission

Submit your article as a Word document between 350 and 500 words in length. Use APA formatting and cite your sources according to APA style.

Addressing Issues in Health Care

The purpose of this assignment is to examine how to identify, prioritize, and address a potential problem within the health care environment.

Write a 1,200 to 1,400-word paper that examines how to address a problem within the health care environment, including risk mitigation and implementation of new compliance requirements.

  1. Describe how would you go about establishing that a potential concern is a problem that should be further investigated. Discuss any specific triggering event you should use in order to initiate the continuous quality improvement process.
  2. Explain what tools would be utilized to identify the problem, develop the solution, track the implementation, and summarize the findings (i.e., benchmarking).
  3. Once you have established that the identified concern is an issue worth addressing, discuss how you would you go about prioritizing this problem compared to other problems. Consider the scarcity of resources, labor costs, capital investment needs, the approval process within your organization, and where you are in the budget cycle.
  4. Discuss who would be considered stakeholders or vested parties and how you intend to mitigate risk when implementing new compliance requirements.

You are required to reference a minimum of five peer-reviewed articles to support your argument.

Contracts 1

Dylan enters into a franchise agreement with The Massage Garage (“TMG”) , a national massage chain located primarily in shopping malls and airports. Dylan’s franchise is located in the Syracuse New York Airport. His agreement with TMG provides that TMG will not license another franchisee at a location closer than 12 miles from Dylan’s location. The agreement also identifies Dylan’s location as “Syracuse, New York Airport.”

Eighteen months later, Dylan is doing well with his business, but learns that TMG is planning on licensing a franchise to Warren in the Carousel Mall in Syracuse. The mall is 13 miles by car from Dylan’s storefront, but only 11.5 miles from the Eastern most edge of the Syracuse Airport.

Dylan writes to TMG, protesting and stating that this is a violation of his franchise agreement. He states that the 12 mile rule means the shortest distance from his location, the Syracuse Airport to the other location, the Carousel Mall, which is 11.5 miles. TMG responds by sending him a copy of a brochure they send to all potential franchisees prior to contracting which states that “You have location protection. We will not open another Massage Garage location closer than 12 miles from your storefront.”

Dylan also has an email he got from TMG just before they signed the agreement. The email promises that if Dylan takes a TMG franchise, and is still in business a year later, that TMG will give him a right of first refusal on any new TMG franchise opportunities within 15 miles of your franchise. TMG never contacted Dylan before granting the new franchise to Warren.

Dylan files suit to enjoin TMG from granting Warren the new franchise and to get a declaratory judgment that he has a 15 mile right of first refusal on future franchises.
