Question 2:  Discussion Question – (PDQ directed at upcoming PA)

Prior to reading this DQ, please read the assignment below and understand what the assignment is asking you to complete. Once you have an understanding of the assignment, please continue to the paragraph below to complete DQ1.

Using the Library Information Resource Network (LIRN), JSTOR, or any other electronic journal database, research eight (8) peer-reviewed articles that can be used to answer your upcoming PA2 assignment. Your discussion should summarize the articles in such a way that it can justify any arguments you may present in your PA2 assignment and should be different from the abstract. In addition to your researched peer-reviewed article, you must include an example of the article researched as it is applied by industry (company, business entity, and so forth).

Please note: This article summary should not be the only article researched for your PA2 assignment. You may (and should) have several other articles researched to fully answer your PA2 assignment. The concept of this DQ is to allow students to be proactive in the research necessary to complete this assignment. You may use your article summary, partially or in its entirety in your PA2 assignment.

Important: Please ensure that your reference for the article is in correct APA format, as your reference in your discussion post. Depending on which electronic database you use, you should see a “Cite” selection for your article. In addition, there should be a variety of articles summarized and as such, students should have different articles summarized. Your summary MUST include ALL of the following in your DQ post (include every item in the bullet list below, or you will not receive full credit):

Do these in order:

●  In correct APA format, write the Reference of the article.

●  Clearly state what the article is about and its purpose.

●  Describe how you will use it in your upcoming assignment.

●  Repeat for a total of eight (8) peer-reviewed sources.

●  What organizational skills and knowledge learned from OD can be used to help different companies, such as international, global, multinational, transnational, operate in multiple countries?

Gerontology module 13

Policy, aging affects all – how do you want to see your future?  Imagine that it is 30-40 years in the future, and you are facing your aging process – what will that look like?  Reflecting on Chapters 12 and 13 that address the well-being of older adults through policy, technology.  Discuss the current opportunities or lack of well-being through the aging process and then project older adult well-being 30 years in future considering policy, technology and life-space.  Tie all concepts together in your narrative being helped by Chapters 12 and 13 readings, your life experience, and your research (use 2 outside resources).

Module 13 Overview:

Community well-being is a universal human concern that engages the young as well as the aging.  However, as we age, the well-being of individuals shifts in need and the focus on policy, technology and where and how we live is often overlooked until the need is critical.  How we age and how we take care of the aging is a direct result of our values about individual versus societal responsibility and how the demographic, economic, and political context shapes the types of policies passed and the nature of eligibility criteria.  We know the policy-making process is complicated by the fact that the older population is not one political constituency but several, in which race, gender, class, functional ability, sexual orientation, and rural/urban residence and may be greater influencers than age.  As noted in your text – Although public spending for older adults has increased in terms of total dollars, it has declined when measured as percentage of the gross national product.  More importantly, older adults and their families now spend more on health and long-term care than they did before the passage of Medicare and Medicaid.  Autonomy and dignity as we age is a convergence of policies and social interventions that involve individual responsibility as well as community awareness and the willingness and ability to act.  Gerontology as a field is at the front of this challenge by translating gerontological research findings for policy makers and the general public as well as advocating at the local, state, and federal levels.

Module 13 Objectives:  At the end of this module, the student will be able to:

1. Describe the primary federal policies, programs, and regulations intended to benefit older adults

2. Analyze the historical, economic, and political context that has affected the development of age-based policies / relate these factors to the intergenerational inequity debate

3. List the primary characteristics of Social Security

4. Analyze the benefits and limitations of Medicare coverage / discuss its future stability and solvency

5. Report Medicare and Medicaid as the two major insurance systems for the benefit of older adults

6. Identify limitations of current policies and future directions for long-term services and supports

Character Evolution Instructions

Welcome to the first essay assignment in the course!

Most of the essay assignments in this course are centered around a thesis statement, which you may remember from the lesson is a personal, debatable claim that should appear in a single statement at the end of your introduction paragraph (please underline them). Then, each of your body paragraphs is constructed to serve as support in proving your thesis. Let’s get started!

Topic and Structure:

Character Evolution – Explain how a character from a novel, film, television show, or another medium of your choice evolves—either good or bad—from the beginning to the end of the story.

Your introduction will provide a brief synopsis of the story and then smoothly transition into the last sentence of your introduction—the thesis statement. Next, you will develop at least three body paragraphs, each dedicated to one example (such as a scene) in your chosen medium that serves as support for your thesis claim. Finally, you will compile a conclusion paragraph that synthesizes your findings.

Creating the thesis statement:

Is your argument focused and meaningful in a way that it also offers a clear-cut, but debatable point of view, which a reader might either agree or disagree with? Avoid claims that are too obvious to the readers—offer them a new idea! Remember, a thesis also serves as a map for your essay, providing a promise of subtopics you will discuss in your body paragraphs in the order in which they appear in your essay.

Sample thesis statement: In The Midnight’s Shadow, Charles Bellingham begins as a lonely, self-loathing candle maker, but after he meets Miss Charmaine, begins working for the king, and takes an understudy, he transforms into a confident man who sees the townspeople and the kingdom as a friendly and prosperous community.

Developing the body paragraphs:

The way you present your supporting evidence is just as important as the evidence itself. When you create a body paragraph with the goal of supporting a claim in your thesis, you want to include a balance of research and/or examples with original material. In other words, original material refers to discussions you develop that help explain the connection between your research and/or examples and your thesis claim. You don’t want to assume that your research and/or examples are enough to prove your thesis—you want to inform your reader how and why cited material serves the purpose you intend.

Therefore, begin each body paragraph with a topic sentence that affirms your opinion. A topic sentence for the first body paragraph in a paper with the thesis from above might say, “Miss Charmaine, ever so charming in her ways, bumps into a scowling Mr. Bellingham, only to annoy him further, but as he slowly raises his gaze to evaluate the source of this unpleasantry, he is rather surprised to see a such a lovely creature affectionately maintaining his stare, eliciting an intrigue that serves as the first defining moment in Charles’ positive transformation.” Next, follow up the topic sentence with more about this scene that serves as the defining moment. Then, spend significant time explaining how the events you just discussed prove your thesis. Finally, end the paragraph with a concluding sentence that synthesizes your efforts.

Compiling the conclusion:

Lastly, compile a conclusion paragraph that summarizes your findings in a new manner, using fresh language and perspective. Make sure to work in a restatement of your thesis statement (but not a repetitive version) as well as any other relevant ideas you present in the essay. You want your conclusion to read like new information but without actually presenting new arguments. In sum, synthesize instead of summarize.

Notes

·         When you refer to events in your chosen medium, use literary present.

Business Law Final term paper

Conduct research on the United States Supreme Court case of Cruzan v. Director, Missouri Department of Health, 497 U.S. 261 (1990). The full text of this case, along with numerous case briefs, commentaries, summaries, etc., may be found by simply entering the full name of the case into any major online search engine of your choosing.  Alternatively, you may use Westlaw, Lexis or any other professional legal research databank in your research, however, use of such is not required. Following your research, review the following questions:

• What was the ultimate numerical vote of the court?
• When and how can life support be withdrawn?
• How does death by refusal of treatment differ from suicide?
• How does a living will work and when does it become of legal effect?
• What is a health care directive and how does it work?

After completing your research, summarize your answers, and, along with any other sources, if any, address and support your particular position/view on the following specific issues, and, specifically, how you would apply the Saint Leo University Core Values of Community, Respect, and Integrity into your actions. Be sure to use proper APA format for citations.

1. What are the potential foreseeable financial, psychological, and medical, yet unintended, harmful consequences to one’s family and friends in failing to provide a properly executed will and living will prior to one’s final illness and death?

2. What are the fundamental distinctions between recuperative medical care and palliative care? Who should be included in the decision to modify care from recuperative to palliative? When, if ever, is the right to refuse any and all medical care appropriate when such virtually ensures the death of the patient?

3. What professionals, medical or otherwise, should be involved in advising decisions concerning end-of-life wishes? How does euthanasia differ from a simple cessation of treatment? Who should make end of life decisions for those who are without a family member to take on such a role?

4. What measures can be taken to ensure the quality of ongoing family and social relationships, individually and as a group, to end-of-life patients? What pitfalls are to be avoided in ensuring maintenance of these relationships? What actions may be taken to ensure the spiritual and existential dimensions of the process are respected and integrated?

You must submit this assignment as a Word document to the link above. The link will take you to an external assessment tool called Chalk and Wire. Instructions for submitting the document will be available after you click on the link above and are also located in the Student Resources folder under Student Handouts.

discussion question / healthcare administration

One study states, “Mental health has proved especially vulnerable to the ravages of managed care because its patients tend not to be assertive about their right to treatment and because the subjective nature of emotional distress makes it easier to deny or restrict, by way of pre-approvals and treatment reviews, than many medical conditions, whose symptoms can be documented with blood tests or X-rays.”

  1. Do you think this is a fair statement?  Why or why not?
  2. Discuss some of the responsibilities that managed care should have towards these individuals with mental health issues.

AM Unit IV Case Study

Instructions

Case studies are an essential learning strategy in business classes because they provide an opportunity for you to critically analyze events that have taken place in real-life businesses. This develops your critical thinking and research skills as you research the competition and industry in which your business resides in order to formulate a recommendation for the challenges faced by the company. For this unit, review the “Marketing Excellence: BMW” case study on pp. 273 of your textbook. This assignment will be comprised of two parts; one part will ask you to respond to questions, and the other will require you to complete a case analysis.

Part 1

Evaluate this case, and respond to each of the following questions using both theory and practical managerial thinking.

  • Examine and apply the consumer-buying process for BMW. Identify the steps and the application to BMW. How does this process assist the marketing team at BMW?
  • How could data analytics be used to research the consumer in order to ensure a strong understanding of overall business and marketing outcomes at BMW?
  • Within the case, several clearly different target markets are identified. What does BMW do well to target each of these groups, and what could it do better? Within your response, include the process of segmentation.

Your Part 1 response must be at least two pages in length. Follow APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment. Note that you will submit Part 1 and Part 2 in one document.

Part 2

Complete a case analysis of BMW. This requires that you conduct research on BMW beyond the case study material in the textbook. In the case analysis, you will look at the situational analysis, problem, and alternatives, and you will provide a recommendation. Refer to the instructions below as you construct your analysis.

  • Situational Analysis
    • Discuss the external environment through the compilation of a PEST (political, economic, sociocultural, and technology) analysis.
    • Discuss the internal and external environment through the compilation of a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis.
  • Problem
    • Identify at least one organizational problem that BMW is currently having or one in which you project it will have in the future. Base this upon your research and critical thinking.
  • Alternatives
    • Compile three or four potential marketing-related solutions to the problem above. Remember that these are potential alternatives; you will not select all of the alternatives to solve the problem.
  • Recommendation (Marketing Strategy)
    • Select one or two of the alternatives above to solve the problem that you identified in this case analysis.
    • Discuss your rationale for choosing these and not the others. Include supporting research that will increase the depth of your analysis.

In order to successfully complete Part 2 of this case study, you need to review the video and task learning guides (TLGs) below. The following resources will provide you with the skills to research industries/competitors.Company and Industry Research video (transcript for Company and Industry Research video)
How to Find Company Information in the Business Source Ultimate Database TLG
How to Search for Articles With a Company Focus TLGPart 2 must be at least four pages in length. Follow APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment. Support Part 2 with at least three sources outside of the textbook. As aforementioned, keep in mind that Part 1 and Part 2 will be submitted in one document.

share another interesting component of the artwork or example of symbolism that was shared in the video that they have not yet addressed. You must provide a substantive response.

PEERS RESPONSE:

This week’s second discussion post we are to view a piece of artwork and discuss the key components of the work that were discussed in the interpretation provided by the video as well as mention the details regarding the methods, tools, subjects, and social implications of the art.  Then we will provide an example of symbolism and discuss the difference between the interpretation and our own impression.

There were many components discussed in the interpretation.  The debate over this portrait is if was his wife and a wedding portrait.  There seems to be an event going on as he is waiving to others in the room that is highlighted in the reflection that is picked up in the mirror on the wall.  It is also signed by the artiest stating Van Eyck was here, like memorializing an event.  The discussion of light and technique of utilizing multiple layers of oil painting help create a vibrant ambiance as well as a love and appreciation of light that was popular in the times of the Northern renaissance.  The details of the intricate pictures within the picture may have been done by a single hair brush like the dog’s hair and the religious images that decorated the mirror.  The social implication of the artwork show that this couple is wealthy.  First off wealthy and important enough to have a portrait made, but the items in the portrait represent wealth.  The quality of clothing, the woven rug, breed of dog, oranges and their representation (Smarthistory, 2011) the marvelous chandelier with only one candle that also had religious implications.  All of these items show that the couple was wealthy.  One example of symbolism is the one candle that symbolized one higher power of God and its presence at this event being the only candle needed.

The analysis versus my impression was a little different.  I did not pick up on the wealth aspect that the portrait was trying to portray.  I did notice the items but did not equate them with wealth.  I believed the woman to be pregnant, but in the break down it was a dress style of the times.  I also was not picking up on an event happening as I did not notice all the reflections in the mirror, but I noticed the uncomfortableness in the hand holding as he is holding the back of her hand.  I also noticed the lack of eye contact as they seems din engaged.  And the raising of his hand towards her as to stop her, My interpretation was of a couple that was not happy, that only had one candle, and lived in a small cramped area where the food was kept where they sleep.  I thought she was pregnant and he was possibly not happy about the situation.  After hearing the professionals discuss I can see I was way off.

open eyes

Consider one of the groups to which you do belong (it should be one of the groups we have discussed in the course; intersectional groups like “Asian man” are appropriate as long as you specify what is unique about that intersection that makes it different from being “Asian” or being a “man”). Reflect on your experience in this course in learning more about that group and its experiences in the workplace.

Submit a 1-page (approximately) paper that answers the following questions.

  • What new insights did you gain about your group? BE SPECIFIC. Incorporate data (as warranted).
    • How did you feel as you learned these new things?
    • In what ways (if any) did these new insights influence how you see yourself and/or your group?
  • What are some of the common workplace challenges associated with being a member of your group? BE SPECIFIC. Incorporate data (as warranted).
    • What is your personal plan for navigating those challenges?
  • What is the single most important thing you’ve learned in this course? This may or may not be directly related to your own group membership.
    • How will you apply that in the workplace?

Good explanations will be detailed and thought-provoking, but concise. You should also use course concepts and terminology as applicable to demonstrate mastery of the course content. Include course concepts in bold print font so they more easily stand out.

An example of how you might state something that suggests, but does not identify, a course concept:

Beginning at our early childhood years, people treat girls and boys differently and have different expectations of them. These differences affect the way people decide what kinds of jobs people will be good at when they enter the workforce.

An example of how you might state the same thing that explicitly identifies a course concept:

Gender role socialization starts during early childhood and persists in the workforce through gendered job steering. (Then you would elaborate in more common and/or personal terms to demonstrate that you know what you were talking about and aren’t just throwing in vocabulary words for the sake of saying you did so.)

The highest quality papers will also integrate insights beyond the textbook and lecture. Great resources include the readings and videos within the Modules but you are also encouraged to seek external resources as well. Cite anything you reference and include a link to the source in your submission.
