Business Analytics is not a new concept, but how it is employed and executed is. What a single employee is able to accomplish at his/her terminal using a myriad of calculation tools is exponentially vaster than at any previous time in history. As we as a class progress through our graduate program the tools available and the capabilities possessed will no doubt increase even further. Before reading this week’s lesson notes, I was gravitated towards developing a post centered on the math. Focusing in on the “analysis” of what the processes are.  However after reading through the readings and articles from numerous other entities, “analytics” as is now being termed is an all-encompassing descriptor.  Analytics is no longer just the gathering and interpreting of what was, but rather is also geared towards what is to become. Brian Eastwood of Northeastern University defines Enterprise Analytics as “the use of data, analysis, and exploratory and predictive modeling to drive business strategies and actions. Successful enterprise analytics requires applying the techniques of data management, data engineering, and strategy development, as well as the use of analytics techniques that range from forecasting and simulation to linear programming and optimization.

There are three main types of analytics; predictive, descriptive, and prescriptive. Utilizing all three across a platform is an organizational challenge experienced by all. Descriptive tells you what is happening or has happened. Predictive is attempting to forecast what will happen next, and prescriptive attempts to find multiple outcome by changing different variables within the process or procedure. How does this relate to investment? Businesses spend large amounts of capital in these three areas attempting to optimize every step of their processes. Maximum efficiency is the aim, as an increase in efficiency is directly related to an increase in the bottom line.  As stated before the analytics is not new, but the how is. This “how” requires the implementation of new teams of individuals with different skill sets and knowledge bases. The return on this expenditure is not in the immediate short term. The efficiency increase may at first be marginal, but just like compound interest, continual marginal improvements will prove to be extremely profitable.

Beta and Capital Budgeting

Part 1: Beta

Visit the following web site or other websites:

Yahoo Finance

1.  Search for the beta of your company (Wendy’s)

2.  In addition, find the beta of 3 different companies within the same industry as your company (Wendy’s).

3.  Explain to your classmates what beta means and how it can be used for managerial and/or investment decision

4.  Why do you think the beta of your company and those of the 3 companies you found are different from each other? Provide as much information as you can and be specific.

Part 2: Capital Budgeting

Before you respond to Part 2 of discussion 6 review the following information on Capital Budgeting Techniques

Capital Budgeting Decision Methods

CAPITAL BUDGETING (PRINCIPLES & TECHNIQUES)

To avoid damaging its market value, each company must use the correct discount rate to evaluate its projects. Review and discuss the following:

• Compare and contrast the internal rate of return approach to the net present value approach. Which is better? Support your answer with well-reasoned arguments and examples.

• Is the ultimate goal of most companies–maximizing the wealth of the owners for whom the firm is being operated–ethical? Why or why not?

• Why might ethical companies benefit from a lower cost of capital than less ethical companies?

Assignment: Focused SOAP Note for Schizophrenia Spectrum, Other Psychotic, and Medication-Induced Movement Disorders

Psychotic disorders change one’s sense of reality and cause abnormal thinking and perception. Patients presenting with psychotic disorders may suffer from delusions or hallucinations or may display negative symptoms such as lack of emotion or withdraw from social situations or relationships. Symptoms of medication-induced movement disorders can be mild or lethal and can include, for example, tremors, dystonic reactions, or serotonin syndrome.

For this Assignment, you will complete a focused SOAP note for a patient in a case study who has either a schizophrenia spectrum, other psychotic, or medication-induced movement disorder.

To Prepare

Review this week’s Learning Resources. Consider the insights they provide about assessing, diagnosing, and treating schizophrenia spectrum, other psychotic, and medication-induced movement disorders.

Review the Focused SOAP Note template, which you will use to complete this Assignment. There is also a Focused SOAP Note Exemplar provided as a guide for Assignment expectations.

Review the video, Case Study: Sherman Tremaine. You will use this case as the basis of this Assignment. In this video, a Walden faculty member is assessing a mock patient. The patient will be represented onscreen as an avatar.

Consider what history would be necessary to collect from this patient.

Consider what interview questions you would need to ask this patient.

The Assignment

Develop a focused SOAP note, including your differential diagnosis and critical-thinking process to formulate a primary diagnosis. Incorporate the following into your responses in the template:

Subjective: What details did the patient provide regarding their chief complaint and symptomology to derive your differential diagnosis? What is the duration and severity of their symptoms? How are their symptoms impacting their functioning in life?

Objective: What observations did you make during the psychiatric assessment?

Assessment: Discuss the patient’s mental status examination results. What were your differential diagnoses? Provide a minimum of three possible diagnoses with supporting evidence, and list them in order from highest priority to lowest priority. Compare the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for each differential diagnosis and explain what DSM-5 criteria rules out the differential diagnosis to find an accurate diagnosis. Explain the critical-thinking process that led you to the primary diagnosis you selected. Include pertinent positives and pertinent negatives for the specific patient case.

Plan: What is your plan for psychotherapy? What is your plan for treatment and management, including alternative therapies? Include pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatments, alternative therapies, and follow-up parameters, as well as a rationale for this treatment and management plan. Also incorporate one health promotion activity and one patient education strategy.

Reflection notes: What would you do differently with this patient if you could conduct the session again? Discuss what your next intervention would be if you were able to follow up with this patient. Also include in your reflection a discussion related to legal/ethical considerations (demonstrate critical thinking beyond confidentiality and consent for treatment!), health promotion, and disease prevention, taking into consideration patient factors (such as age, ethnic group, etc.), PMH, and other risk factors (e.g., socioeconomic, cultural background, etc.).

Provide at least three evidence-based, peer-reviewed journal articles or evidenced-based guidelines that relate to this case to support your diagnostics and differential diagnoses. Be sure they are current (no more than 5 years old).

Five Reference of not more than 5 years.

Discuss the impact of an emerging digital technology on individuals and their society.

In this 8-10+ page paper (2000-2500+ words), students will discuss the impact of an emerging digital technology on individuals and their society. The paper will center on the idea of change. What changes are occurring in connection with the technology? https://blog.keenessays.com/2021/06/16/im-working-on-a-business-writing-question-and-need-support-to-help-me-study-nee/ Why and how are these changes occurring? To what extent are they disruptive?

First, you will choose an emerging digital technology and share it with me early in the semester through the Journal Assignment that will be due.

Then, you will do research on your topic and write a paper, using APA format, that explains what you learned. You may use first person (“I”). Your paper will include both of the following sections…

  • A. Change in the development of relationships (you can focus on any or all of these types of relationships: acquaintances, friends, families, groups)
  • B. Change in work (focus on any of these or work in general: jobs, businesses, corporations, careers, industries, economics)

…and any two of the following four sections

  • C. Change in governing (focus on any of these or governing in general: national and international relations, laws, criminal justice, politics)
  • D. Change in the culture (focus on any or all of these aspects of culture: ordinary behaviors, norms, values, beliefs, ethics)
  • E. Change in entertainment (focus on any one or two of these or entertainment in general: music, TV, movies, books, magazines, games, new media)
  • F. Change in social institutions (choose one or two as applicable to your project: education, libraries, medicine, religion, transportation systems, military).

for a total of four substantive sections, separated and labeled as such in the paper (the paper will also have an Introduction and Conclusion)

Then, within each of the four substantive sections, you will include each of the following sub-sections, separated and labeled as such

  • 1. Uses and Trends: https://keenwriter.xyz/economics/im-working-on-a-economics-multi-part-question-and-need-a-sample-draft-to-help-m/ an overview of the uses and trends of the technology as it relates to the issue being addressed, both historically and currently (you will discover these via your own research)
  • 2. Disruptive Impact: an analysis of the disruptive capabilities of the technology as it relates to that issue (refer to the criteria of disruption and some course readings here)
  • 3. Predictions: based on your research, what kinds of changes do you predict as a result of the integration of this technology into society? (You can include your educated opinions in this section, and may refer to the opinions of other experts as well.)
  • …so, once completed, your paper will have FOUR substantive sections with THREE sub-sections in each. There is no need to change the names of the labels of the sub-sections in the paper – just label them in the paper exactly as they are labeled here.

Then, you will do research to provide facts and evidence for the issues being discussed. Cumulatively — across all the sections and sub-sections — your paper must contain at least ten research sources (you may need more), including:

  • At least two news articles from reputable, credible organizations – one or both of these can be a report relevant to your topic from the Pew Research Center, possibly from their internet and technology section (http://pewresearch.org.)
  • Three articles or book chapters from the class
  • A variety of at least five types of other credible, relevant media sources (other kinds of articles, YouTube videos, blog posts, websites, etc. — make sure they are factual and say something meaningful).

You can spread these sources out throughout the paper as you see fit, using and referring to them as you see fit. You may use any source more than once, and may use them in combination with one another to make deeper points. All factual info and statistics cited must have a source. You should also give attribution to any specific idea that derived from another source.

    Your paper must also include:

  • A strong, catchy, descriptive title and title page (which is not included in the page count)
  • An Introduction that makes it clear to the reader what the overall paper will be about, names the sections to be included, and states an overall thesis. (Do not title this section the “introduction.” Just start the paper.)
  • A Conclusion to the paper that restates what the overall paper was about, restates the sections that were included and the overall thesis, and leaves the reader with a something specific, concise, and interesting to think about. You may also include your own educated opinion as to the overall, larger impact of the technology in this section. (You may title this section the “Conclusion,” or you may give it a more substantive title.)

A bibliography (reference list) of your sources used in the paper in APA format (which is not included in the page count)

Formatic notes: Use APA format throughout the paper as you use to the best of you ability, and integrate and cite your sources throughout properly. However, your paper will NOT require an introductory abstract (as APA allows).

Your paper should be double-spaced OR it can simply use the page spacing and margins of your word processing program https://paperwriters.xyz/uncategorized/explain-how-using-the-university-of-arizona-global-campus-library-has-improved-your-experience-in-conducting-research/ (which might be somewhat less than double-spacing). It should use a traditional font (Times New Roman, Arial, Calibri) and font size (11 or 12 point). It should be approximately 8-10 pages in length, or 2000-2500 words. It can be longer, but should not be shorter. There is plenty to say!

This paper will be assessed with the rubric in the syllabus and on the Canvas course site and when successfully completed, you will meet the RU Core Goal CCO-2 or ITR-y, as appropriate.

We can also meet to discuss your topic at additional points during the semester – stop by my office hours or contact me at any time to set up an appointment.

Issues Paper

Topic: The importance of childhood Development

Issues in early childhood are vast and constantly changing.

Your task is to write a brief research paper designed to go into greater depth about either a topic already discussed in the course or the presentation of an issue in early childhood education not already discussed in the course.

You will have to make an argument about why this topic is an issue and provide references for an outsider to access greater information. Your paper should be between three to five pages in length (not including title page and reference page) and include the following information:

  • Topic description
    • Provide current information about the topic you have chosen.
  • Issue argument
    • Discuss why the topic is an “issue” in early childhood.
    • What are the concerns/arguments regarding your issue (support your concerns/arguments with evidence)?
      • Make sure to include concerns/arguments made on opposing sides.
  • Online references
    • Provide at least 3 online references that could be useful to an outsider reviewing this “issue.”

Here is some useful information about writing an argumentative essay paper: Click Here (Links to an external site.)

The structure of the argumentative essay is held together by the following:

  • A clear, concise, and defined thesis statement that occurs in the first paragraph of the essay.
  • Clear and logical transitions between the introduction, body, and conclusion.
  • Body paragraphs that include evidential support of the thesis
  • Body paragraphs also include the opposing views.
  • Evidential support (whether factual, logical, statistical, or anecdotal).
  • A conclusion that does not simply restate the thesis, but readdresses it in light of the evidence provided.

***This paper needs to follow APA guidelines and include a title page, reference page, double-space, 1 inch margins, Times New Roman 12 pt.

ACC/497 Week 2

 Assignment Content

  1. Norr and Caylor established a partnership on January 1, 2019. Norr invested cash of $100,000 and Caylor invested $30,000 in cash and equipment with a book value of $40,000 and fair value of $50,000. For both partners, the beginning capital balance was to equal the initial investment. Norr and Caylor agreed to the following procedure for sharing profits and losses:
    • 12% interest on the yearly beginning capital balance
    • $10 per hour of work that can be billed to the partnership’s clients
    • the remainder divided in a 3:2 ratio
    • The Articles of Partnership specified that each partner should withdraw no more than $1,000 per month, which is accounted as direct reduction of that partner’s capital balance.

For 2019, the partnership’s income was $70,000. Norr had 1,000 billable hours, and Caylor worked 1,400 billable hours. In 2020, the partnership’s income was $24,000, and Norr and Caylor worked 800 and 1,200 billable hours respectively. Each partner withdrew $1,000 per month throughout 2019 and 2020.

      Complete the following:

    • Determine the amount of net income allocated to each partner for 2019.
    • Determine the balance in both capital accounts at the end of 2019.
    • Determine the amount of net income allocated to each partner for 2020. (Round all calculations to the nearest whole dollar).
    • Determine the balance in both capital accounts at the end of 2020 to the nearest dollar.

Performance, Compensation, and Rewards Presentation

Create a 7- to 9-slide presentation using the scenario from your Week 2 Individual assignment (this is total slides for everything in the submission (this includes your intro, content, summary, works cited (if any), etc) do not go over 9 total slides!!!!…Let me Repeat that, there should be no more than 9 Slides submitted. in which you include the following:

  • Intro and summary slide are required….note the intro slide is not your title slide. The Intro slide tells me what the presentation will contain/the outline.
  • List/Discuss/Apply three measurements you would use to measure performance for the project. NOTE: These are performance measure to be used as measurements during the project…not after the project has been delivered.  There is no “book” answer for these, it is what you come up with as to how you would measure performance on your project. So an example would be something like using Earned Value Management to track cost, etc. Recommend you have a slide for each of the measurements so you can show enough details on the items.
  • Determine appropriate financial compensation/rewards for the project team. As a hint, do not just tell me you would give a raise…that is not detailed enough….how much?
  • Explain your rationale for selecting the financial compensation and rewards. Why was that selected over other options? Etc.
  •  Outline a human resource plan for the project in the scenario. Do not just show me a diagram of a HR Plan on the internet, this needs to be specific to your project and explained.

Include typed (not audio) speaker notes on each slide….speakers notes are also not a “note bubble”…use the MS Powerpoint speaker notes.

The presentation includes relevant media/visuals/pictures/etc that are consistent with the content. In other words do not just have words on the slides….make it look good. Also when you put words on slides use bullets; do not use sentences/paragraphs on a slide. Also even though you are using Notes Pages you have to have some content on the slides….for example in the past some students give me a silde with just the header “HR Plan” and a picture of an HR office….that is not a good slide since it does not show the audience any information….yes you will have detailed information when you speak to the slide but you have to show something of value on the slide itself.

I can’t emphasize enough here…the information must be detailed and specific to your project that you selected.

American Pop Music- “Concert Review”

The concerts can be any popular music performance in which you can listen actively to the performance. Due to the Covid-19 issues, I am allowing concerts from YouTube or other online sources to count for the concert review. The concert must also be at least an hour in length. 2 pages typed and double-spaced.

  • Please include URL (online link), date, venue, genre, and name of performance or performers at the top of your paper.

Important Considerations in writing your review

Comment on aspects of music such as genre of music, performance forces used (instrumentation), texture, form, style periods represented, staging and costumes (when it applies), etc. In addition; make observations as to unique or unusual uses of music within the concert (rhythm, harmony, instrumentation, and so on).A good paper will start with an introduction which discusses the general details of the concert plus first impressions of the concert experience.

  • Good information to mention here would be concert theme (if there is one), was it a student or professional ensemble or soloist, interesting program notes, etc.

Follow the introduction with general observations about the performance.

  • Did the performers make comments about the music during the performance? Did the comments add to the understanding and enjoyment of the concert.
  • Were there any surprises? Special effects on an instrument or special instruments used?

Then write in detail about one song or group of similar songs which were of particular interest to you. Talk about style, color (instruments), texture (monophonic, homophonic, or polyphonic), and form (verse/chorus, waltz song, etc.).

  • Discuss the genre and era of the music.
  • Did they perform any music or styles which were studied in this class? Were you able to hear the important ideas about the styles in the performance?

Finally, write a conclusion about the concert. Mention personal observations about the concert.

  • What was your overall impression?
  • If this type of concert was new to you, would you go to another? Why?
