Week 2 Assignment

Course Objective:
Evaluate the traits of successful entrepreneurs.

Prompt:
Some might assume it is easy to start a business in the United States and that anyone can do it. However, what distinguishes successful entrepreneurs (innovative/disruptive ideas) from less successful ones (Mom & Pop small businesses with ordinary ideas) is the ability to spot an opportunity for a high-potential venture and then to develop it into a thriving business. As the business grows, the successful entrepreneur is able to attract key management team members, to motivate employees, to find more and more customers and keep them coming back, and to build increasingly sophisticated relationships with financiers..

Address the following questions:

  1. What are the traits/characteristics of a successful entrepreneur?
  2. What traits/characteristics can lead to the downfall of an entrepreneur and how can they be transformed?
  3. Complete the assessment provided in the link below and then discuss in detail your results and how they relate to your future as an entrepreneur. Do you have to work on a specific area? Are you strong in a specific area that makes you a good candidate for entrepreneurship?  Were the results accurate? NOTE: Write in the third person as though you are writing on behalf of the author/researcher.

Instructions:

  • Start by taking the entrepreneurship inventory at the following site: Entrepreneurship Self-Assessment
  • Write an APA 7th formatted paper of 700-1,050 words, typewritten in double-spaced format (Times New Roman styles), page margins Top, Bottom, Left Side and Right Side = 1 inch, with reasonable accommodation being made for special situations and online submission variances. Use the template provided per Week 1.
  • In your response, make certain that you include at least two credible outside references from search engines or scholarly sources from the APUS Online Library. See the rubric for achieving an Exemplary score using 5+ sources, of which 3+ should be peer-reviewed.
  • Turnitin is required and your paper will be automatically submitted into the Turnitin system.
  • Please attach your paper as a file, do not copy & paste.
  • Please name your assignment file as LastnameFirstinitial-BUSN621-AssignWeek #2.

Case Study Due 10 Hours

Kara and John are Asian American high school seniors who have just found out she is pregnant.  They have not told their parents yet.  Kara wants to keep her baby, but John is not sure how he feels.  Kara’s family are Buddhists, and John’s family claims no religion. They have both been planning to attend college out of state next year.  They would like a counselor to include their families in providing counseling support.

Title Page: Include an abbreviated version of the paper title in the left header, all-capitalized (for example, if the paper title was Multiculturally Sensitive Counseling Case Study, the left header might be: CASE STUDY).  Page numbers begin on the title page in the right header (number only).  Centered on the title page, 3 or 4 lines down from the top of the page, in bold, is the Paper Title. Then double-space twice below the paper title and put Your Name. Double-space once below your name and put Liberty University (no other information).  Follow current APA professional style standards.  Please refer to the LU Writing Center for APA guidance and templates.

The title of the paper is repeated on the first page of the body of your paper.  Center and bold the paper title.  Begin your paper with a brief introductory paragraph where you explain what you plan to cover in your paper, and why it is important (there is no heading for the introduction).  An abstract is not required for this assignment.  The body of the paper must be 5-7 pages for full credit (this does not count the title page or references).  Use the following headings for sections in your paper.

Local Community Resources and Supports

Research two local agencies that would be good resources for the client(s) you are assisting.  These should be local community agencies (not websites or hotlines). Summarize what services each resource provides, explain any associated costs, describe the intake requirements and process, and explain how these agencies could be useful in supporting the client(s) you are working with, with emphasis on cultural sensitivity.  You will need to cite and reference the agencies. This is an opportunity for you to explore and learn more about local resources that are sensitive to meeting multicultural needs.  This section should be 2 pages (1 page per resource).

Cultural Research

If you were the human services professional working with these clients, consider what research you would want to do in preparation.  Use at least three peer-reviewed journal articles dated within the last 5 years in this section.  Look for current, relevant research to increase your knowledge of culture and techniques that would improve your multicultural sensitivity in working with these specific clients.  This section should be approximately 2-3 pages.

Reflection

Reflect on what you discovered while researching for local resources and supports, and while doing cultural research.  How multiculturally sensitive did you find your community and religious supports?  Did the process of researching resources and literature better prepare you for addressing cultural needs?  Do you think you could potentially experience any biases or limitations in working with these clients?  This section should be approximately ½-1 page.

Conclusion

End with a brief conclusion paragraph where you summarize what you covered in your paper. What additional research do you believe is necessary on the cultural topics you explored?

References

After you conclude your paper, begin the references on a new page.  Center (bold) the References heading at the top of the page. You need at least 3 peer-reviewed journal articles dated within the past 5 years, in an alphabetized list.  Every source that you include in the references should be cited in your paper.  Double-spaced.  You may also include our course textbook as an additional source.

Additional notes regarding your case study:

Reserve the use of direct quotes for the most significant information that it would be difficult to put into your own words and cite.  Do not use lengthy quotes (no quotes that are 40 or more words).  You may use first-person pronouns (I, my, me, mine) in the case study.  The case study is meant to be brief and introductory; do not add to or attempt to finish the case scenario.

Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the SafeAssign plagiarism tool.

COVID ARTICLE

Rarely in class do we have such a significant worldwide event that has implications in many ways. In this week’s assignment, you will read an article. It is a long article and one I want you to read. I am making the assignment and forum similar. In doing this assignment, I want to be clear- there is NO need to include political opinions or beliefs. I am not making any political statement; I want you to consider the global implications and how CSR will be a part of the implications.

The article is on the COVID-19- Vaccine.

There are four key sections:

  • Generating Demand For Vaccine Requires Targeted Services
  • Vaccine Demand Meets Supply: Allocating Vaccines In A Pandemic
  • Vaccine Supply: Distributing Vaccine Where It Is Needed
  • Vaccine Supply: Verification Of Immunization

As you work on this assignment, address following:

  • How will we generate demand in 3rd world countries or developing countries? In places where people do not know understand the purpose or typically receive vaccinations? What are the ethical implications in these countries? How can governments help or hurt?
  • How will a vaccine ethically be distributed? There are suggestions it could take up to 2 years to vaccine everyone in India alone. How can global businesses engage and foster vaccine distribution?
  • How should a vaccine be distributed globally? Which countries are in need? How can global corporations support the ethical distribution of the vaccine?
  • Finally, how do we verify immunized? This is potentially a sensitive issue. In Africa, you must carry a “yellow card” to show malaria vaccination, and people will steal the card. Will those who are wealthy receive vaccinations before high demand areas? What are the implications for distribution?

This is a 1-2 page written assignment

Module 1 Discussion Post 2

Respond to 1 Classmate?

The source I plan to use to obtain required information for measles will be Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA). I feel that each of these sources will provide wealth of information on how to prevent from getting measles, how is transmitted, signs/symptoms, and other key resources I can use as a public health professional.

I will also utilize the National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System (NNDSS) to obtain statistical data on probable and confirmed cases in the Lake County, Illinois (CDC, 2019). The NNDSS also helps to monitor, control, and prevent many diseases, which will be beneficial in lower the spread and decreasing the chances of outbreaks in communities who are not vaccinated (CDC, 2019).

I will also utilize the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), a website and database that can help provide local health statistics on measles cases. Moreover, IDPH can help provide defense against measles through preventative measures and education (IDPH, n.d.).

The first three I will do as I begin working on an outbreak response plan are:

  1. Conduct research on measles.
  2. Spot vulnerable communities and conduct risk assessments to recognize potential threats.
  3. Implement a plan to protect the community by ensuring everyone get vaccinated and plan for the worse in case of an outbreak.

I would also conduct interviews with people familiar with the area to get both quantitative and qualitative measurements of who’s affected, vaccinated, and unvaccinated.

Instructions
You have recently been promoted to Health Services Manager at Three Mountains Regional Hospital, a small hospital located in a mid-size city in the Midwest. Three Mountains is a general medical and surgical facility with 400 beds. Last year there were approximately 62,000 emergency visits and 15,000 admissions. More than 6,000 outpatient and 10,000 inpatient surgeries were performed.

Three Mountains was recently in the news after employee emails were published in which patients were discussed in very negative terms, although patient names were not used. The employees that sent these emails were fired. The CEO and the Board of Directors has tasked you with developing an intake packet for new patients that will reestablish patient trust in the facility, employees, and staff. The patient packet will address new patient concerns by including information about HIPAA, informed consent, a confidential health history report, and a living will. The new packet will also include the values of the organization and a code of ethics.

Your intake packet will start with the Hospital’s Code of Ethics that includes at least 10 ethical points. The code of ethics should include (at a minimum):

  • Patient relations
  • Physician activities
  • Billing for services
  • Political activities
  • Conflict of interest
  • Communication, including social media
  • Privacy
  • The Code of Ethics should be submitted in bullet format in a Word document with an introduction. APA formatting for the ethical points and proper grammar is required.

Upon completion of your code of ethics, please prepare a PowerPoint presentation (or other shareable Webware/software you prefer) with narration in which you explain each ethical point and its relevance in the healthcare industry with examples to the CEO, so that she can answer questions from the Board.

  1. The PowerPoint should have a minimum of 5 slides and a maximum of 12.
  2. Describe each ethical point in the Code of Ethics.
  3. Use the notes area on each slide as needed to expand on the key points.
  4. You may use a free screen capture site such as Screencast-O-Matic to record a video of your presentation. Screencast-O-Matic is a site and program that can perform screen desk and audio capture up to 15 minutes for free, and can be utilized on a Windows or Mac computer. (Note: You can use another, similar program if you prefer. Screencast-O-Matic is only a suggestion). Make sure that both your voice and the PowerPoint slides are captured on the video.
  5. Your audio presentation should include an introduction, a concise discussion of each slide, and a conclusion. The presentation should demonstrate your overall knowledge of the content, pronunciation of words, organization, proper recording, professionalism, and clarity.

Your presentation should be 10 minutes or less. Be sure to include the following:

  • Include a link to the location of your live video on the last slide of your PowerPoint presentation.
  • Make sure to use audience specific language and tone in your PowerPoint. Remember, you would be presenting this to the CEO of your facility.
  • Save both your Word document and PowerPoint presentation to a folder on your computer. Then zip or compress your folder. This resource from the Library and Learning Services offers help with zipping your folder. Upload the zipped folder to the assignment drop box.

APA formatting for the References slide, and proper grammar, punctuation, and form are required. APA help is available here.

Case Study: Auctions and Dynamic Pricing

  1. Case Study: Auctions and Dynamic Pricing
    Overview
There are many types of auctions, each with strengths and weaknesses at uncovering the real price or value of an item. Auctions are widely used in finance, e-commerce, and e-games. They are also widely used to generate revenue for not-for-profit organizations.
The following video describes auctions as price discovery mechanisms:

    • The Ideal Auction.
    • Use the video on auctions and at least three academic or high-quality business publications (see acceptable types below) to compare and contrast English auctions and Dutch auctions, and sealed-bid first-price auctions and Vickery auctions.
      Instructions
Address the following questions in 5–7 pages:
    1. Compare and contrast how each of the following uncovers value:
      • English and Dutch auctions.
      • Sealed-bid first-price auctions and Vickery auctions.
    2. Compare and contrast surge pricing and congestion pricing. Give an example of each currently in use.
    3. Identify three examples of auctions used in finance, e-commerce, and/or e-games. Explain the following in-depth:
      • The need for an auction to uncover value in the product or service.
      • How the type of auction used to uncover the value of the product or service is better at uncovering value than other types of auctions.
    4. What are the advantages or disadvantages of auctions as revenue generators for not-for-profit organizations?
    5. Suggest ways in which a for-profit company, such as the company for which you work or a company for which you aspire to work, can use auctions or dynamic pricing to better uncover value and increase revenue.
    6. This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
      Acceptable Types of Publications
A high-quality, professional business publication is one that is primarily directed at reporting or analyzing the workings of the business. Examples are the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and Reuters. Avoid general news publications such as USA Today, the Washington Post, and the New York Times. Other articles and resources can be found at the Strayer Library.
Please do not rely on Wikipedia, Investopedia, or similar websites as references at any time in this course.
The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:
    • Propose ways in which a company can use auctions to better uncover value and increase revenue.

Directions: There are three scenarios that will be used in this discussion posting. You are all responsible for the initial discussion posting and then responding to one posting in the remaining scenarios. For example, my last name is Combs, therefore my initial discussion posting will occur from scenario #1. I will then be responsible for responding to one post from scenario #2 and one post from scenario #3.

Initial Discussion scenario #1: Students that have last names beginning with A thru I will post your initial discussion to this scenario.

Mrs. Parker is a 56-year-old woman who was diagnosed with heart failure 4 years ago. She has been admitted to the hospital for shortness of breath (SOB). She states, “I was taking a diuretic at home but ran out 1 week ago. I have not been able to refill my prescription”. She complains of difficulty breathing and has noticed some swelling in her feel that seemed worse than usual. On physical examination, you observe that she is alert and oriented to person, place, and time; SOB on exertion; oxygen saturation is 89% o room air; fine crackles bilateral in the lower lobes; fine 2+ edema bilaterally; and vital signs are T – 37.0, BO – 130/85, P – 120, and R – 35/min. You feel that it is best to notify the physician. Prepare and post your ISBAR using the attached form.

Initial Discussion scenario #2: Students that have last names beginning with J thru Q will post your initial discussion to this scenario.

Mr. Edwards is an 80-year-old male with a left cerebrovascular accident (CVA) who has been in a long-term care facility for the past 2 years. He is immobile and has to be transferred with the mechanical lift. His nutritional needs are met with 6 cans of Prosource via g-tube @ 50mL/hr. You are assigned to Mr. Edwards on the evening shift and you provided hygiene care and repositioned him. Mr. Edward’s routine medications were administered at 1800 hours. His G feed is also in progress. At 2000 hours when you approach Mr. Edward’s bed, you hear him coughing, respirations are noisy and his face is flushed. His vital signs are T – 39, HR – 110 bpm, R – 32, BP – 150.90, and SpO2 is 86% on room air. You feel that it is best to notify the physician. Prepare and post your ISBAR using the attached form.

Initial Discussion scenario #3: Students that have last names beginning with R thru Z will post your initial discussion to this scenario.

Miss Thompson, a 28-year-old female was admitted to your Medical-Surgical unit on the previous night shift for abdominal pain not yet diagnosed. The shift report stated that vitals were stable on admission. Upon shift change, you enter her room and she was moaning loudly and complaining of severe abdominal pain. She has just returned to bed after going to the bathroom. When you looked in the toilet, you noticed that she had a large, bloody stool. She states that she has had “at least one like that each day for the past week.” She states, “I feel so tired and weak. I have never felt this bad before. I can hardly stand long enough to brush my teeth”! Her color is pale, skin cool and diaphoretic. She is alert, knows her name, the date, and where she is but she is very fatigued. Vital signs at 0800 are T – 36.5, HR – 55bpm, R – 18, BP – 105/55, and SpO2 is 97% on room air. The change in the patient’s condition warrants a call to the physician. Prepare and post your ISBAR using the attached form.

Finish this by today

Directions: Have you ever wondered what your motor development might be like if you had grown up in a different region or country? One of the benefits of the Internet is that we have immediate access to information from around the world. After a little web browsing, it becomes clear that various societies and cultures promote varying activities for their members – sports, for example, or the age at which a certain activity is deemed appropriate, or the roles viewed as proper for males and females, and so on. In this learning activity, you will use the Internet to explore several countries and identify sociocultural constraints to those places.

1. Imagine in turn that you are a college-aged individual from each of six continents: Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. To get started, select a country from each continent and list below:

2. Next, visit at least two websites from each country as well as two websites about each country (e.g. from a travel guide), for a total of 24 websites (6 countries X 4 websites). Please insert the links below:

3. For each country, identify two (2) sociocultural constraints specific to that society or culture. (12 total)

4. For each country you choose, develop a biographical portrait of yourself as you might be if you had been born and raised there. Focus on sociocultural constraints. What would you be like? How would your life and motor development differ from country to country? How might your motor development there compare with your actual motor development in your real home country? Are there any similarities? Describe each portrait in a minimum of three (3) complete sentences per country. (18 sentences total
