‘Ethic-Kant’s 3 premises and Michael Sandel’s 3 (gone baby gone)(

” NO Plagiarism”

Apply Kant’s moral philosophy to judge the MAIN FINAL action. For “Gone Baby Gone” movie  judge Patrick’s final decision Judging any other action in the movie is an automatic zero. 500 + words minimum in MLA/APA format.

*You must apply Kant’s 3 premises and Michael Sandel’s 3 contrasts 50% points for both

In the case of ” Gone Baby Gone” the philosophical process you will follow in this paper should sound as something like this:

1. According to Kant’s first premise Patrick behaved moral because he returned the victim he was hired to find and without condition this is the “right” conduct for any detective in cases of kidnapping (the “First Maxim”). Here Kant speaks of doing the right prior to good.

2. On Kant’s second premise Patrick acted moral because he respected the dignity of Amanda and he treated her as an end in herself and not as means to an end like everyone else was doing in the film (the “Second Maxim”). Here Kant speaks of humans as special creatures and ends in themselves. Humans are ends, not means to an end. Los seres humanos son un fin, no un medio para un fin.

3. The conclusion is that a detective act morally when he reports a kidnapping to the police and this behavior should establish a universal law governing all detectives in cases of kidnapping (the “Third Maxim”). Here Kant asks us to test the universality of our action. Will it be OK if everyone does what I am about to do?

(You will apply Kant’s 3 premises and Sandel’s 3 contrasts to what the detective does at the very end of the film which is call the police and report the kidnapping. It should not be difficult but you must see the videos first and see what Kant moral philosophy is all about)

Kant’s Categorical Imperative

Nature of the concept

The concept of the categorical imperative is a syllogism

1.The first premise is that a person acts morally if his or her conduct would, without condition, be the “right” conduct for any person in similar circumstances (the “First Maxim”).

2.The second premise is that conduct is “right” if it treats others as ends in themselves and not as means to an end (the “Second Maxim”).

3.The conclusion is that a person acts morally when he or she acts as if his or her conduct was establishing a universal law governing others in similar circumstances (the “Third Maxim”).

Cultural Group Nursing

Choose one specific cultural group in the U.S. or elsewhere for which you have a particular interest.  You may wish to consider choosing a cultural group that you will be serving in your future advanced nursing role. Conduct a literature search for varied types of credible, peer-reviewed scholarly publications which may include journal articles, book chapters, white papers; government publications or sources such as credible professional nursing and healthcare organizations. Prepare a voice-narrated powerpoint slide presentation which concisely addresses key points in items one through five below as they apply to your chosen cultural group. Include a title slide which names the chosen culture, your name and academic credentials and a reference slide with only selected key citations cited in the slide presentation.

Required Content for Powerpoint Presentation

  1. What are the appropriate interdisciplinary interventions for hereditary, genetic, and endemic diseases and high-risk health behaviors within this culture?
  2. What are the influences of value systems in this culture on childbearing and bereavement practices?
  3. What are the sources of strength, spirituality, and magico- religious beliefs associated with health and health care within this culture?
  4. What are the healthcare practices for this culture such as  acute versus preventive care, barriers to healthcare, the meaning of pain and the sick role; and traditional folk medicine practices?
  5. What are cultural issues related to learning styles, autonomy, and preparation of educational content for this culture?

Women studies

Scholarly Research Requirements:

The News Report asked you to think like a journalist or a consumer of the news. Now, the Research Component asks you to think like a Women’s Studies’ scholar: How does the information reported in the news article connect to scholarly research in the field? What do scholars already know that can deepen our understanding of the information reported in the article?

This assignment will also provide an orientation to the interdisciplinary scholarly resources available for Women’s Studies’ students and scholars.

Your Second (2), using any of the databases or eresources available in the Research Guide, research some aspect of your news article. You should be looking for scholarly resources. If the first database or set of resources returns few options or only news articles and not scholarly articles, choose another database. You could focus on the main topic of the article (such as the gender wage gap, or women in the military), on a specific person discussed in the article (such as an activist, or a politician), or on a location discussed in the article (such as women in the Midwest, or women in Nigeria), or on a related idea (such as the history of cosmetics, or female-centered religions). Remember to maintain a focus on a topic of interest to Women’s Studies.

Third (3), choose two of the scholarly resources you discover, and write an annotated bibliography of 500-800 words as described here. Chosen resources should be no more than 10 years old bibliography should include

  1. An introduction: Explain which topic you chose to explore and why, and how you used the Research Guide to find scholarly work on that topic. Remember to explicitly state the connection to the news article you chose for the News Report.
  2. Two annotated bibliographic references. Each of these should include:
    1. The full citation, properly cited in APA Style. Note that different types of publications (journal articles, encyclopedia entries, ebooks) will require different citation styles.
    2. A 1-paragraph summary of the findings of the research. You should actually read both resources you present. This summary should be in your own words. Do not copy from the summary or abstract that appears in the online library reference listing.
    3. A 1-2 paragraph evaluation of the resource. How does the news article confirm, complicate, illustrate, or otherwise relate to the news article? How does it deepen your understanding of the same subject as covered in the news article?

RFID In Construction Business

Each student is required to research and collect data and information regarding an RFID system that can be integrated into a specific business process to solve a problem in their individual industry, career or field of study.  The paper does not require the researcher/author to include a significant amount of technical data about the system, but rather information about the business justification, planning, purchasing, installing, and maintaining of the system.  The paper should include: Cover Page, Abstract, Table of Contents, Main Body, References and Attachments.

  • An Introduction– specific description of the business problem that the RFID system will be used to improve or enhance.
  • An overview of the chosen RFID system including:
    • Basics of the RFID components that were chosen
    • Any advances in RFID that are used in the system
    • Any Industry Standards that are used in the system
  • Benefits and/or disadvantages of the RFID system
  • Security concerns or practices associated with the RFID system
  • Impact of implementation – A description of administrative procedures – human and  process changes; any Changes in Organization policies or enhancements to include training requirements
  • Appendices (Documentation could include:  business case, project plan, etc

In this research paper and students are encouraged to look both inside and outside the box for gaining knowledge about RFID.  Much of the information gathered will be through research and should be documented appropriately.

Week 4: discussion 1

Consider the goals of the juvenile justice system, which focus on reintegrating juveniles into the community as productive members of society. Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapters 8 and 9 of Introduction to Juvenile Justice. In addition,

You are also encouraged to review the Week 4 Recommended Resources.

Compare and contrast treatment options for special populations identified in our text (i.e., early starters, juvenile gangs, or juvenile sex offenders) and advocate for, or against, shifting juveniles in this category to treatment options outside normal juvenile delinquency programs. You should identify a specific category identified as being part of special populations and a treatment option as part of the discussion. What are the benefits to this program in addressing the special population? Are there drawbacks, if so what are they? How are outcomes identified and measured?

Note: this discussion format will differ from formats in prior courses. The goal of this discussion forum is to have a single conversation about the topic of treatment for special populations of juvenile offenders, not a series of separate conversations. You must post in the discussion on at least three separate days by Day 7; your total word count for your posts should be a minimum of 600 words. There is no required word count for individual posts as long as your combined posts total at least 600 words. However, you must use at least one in-text citation to support your claims and properly cite any references. See

COMPARE AND CONTRAST QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE RESEARCH

 Overview

For this discussion, you will create a table like the one below, comparing and contrasting at least 5 elements of quantitative and qualitative research. Additionally, please provide one example of when you would use a qualitative approach vs. a quantitative approach to study a health/health care-related topic.  Example: Qualitative approach would be used to study the experience of living with a tracheostomy. Quantitative approach would be used to study the effectiveness of various tracheostomy cleaning solutions. You CANNOT use the examples used below:

     Qualitative Methods

Includes interviews, open-ended questions, and focus groups

Uses research questions to guide the research

     Quantitative Methods

Includes primarily surveys, observations, and reviews of records

Uses hypotheses to guide the research

An easier way to make a table in the discussion board is to create it in a Word document as you type your initial post. Then cut and paste it using Ctrl C + Ctrl V (Windows Users), or Cmd ⌘ C + Cmd ⌘ V (Mac users) into a new thread in the forum.

Your initial post must be posted before you can view and respond to colleagues, must contain minimum of two (2) references, in addition to examples from your personal experiences to augment the topic. The goal is to make your post interesting and engaging so others will want to read/respond to it. Synthesize and summarize from your resources in order to avoid the use of direct quotes, which can often be dry and boring. No direct quotes are allowed in the discussion board posts.

Post a thoughtful response to at least two (2) other colleagues’ initial postings. Responses to colleagues should be supportive and helpful (examples of an acceptable comment are: “This is interesting – in my practice, we treated or resolved (diagnosis or issue) with (x, y, z meds, theory, management principle) and according to the literature…” and add supportive reference. Avoid comments such as “I agree” or “good comment.”

Objectives

  • Identify the differences between qualitative and quantitative research
  • Identify types of research questions to be studied with qualitative versus quantitative method

Discussion Posts

Discussion Board for Weeks 13 + 14

Please consider the following questions for this week’s discussion forum:

1. While the prospect of living forever may seem enticing, Bernard Williams argues that immortality would, in fact, be bad for us. Explain his argument, illustrating the concepts of conditional and categorical desires with your own examples. Is Williams right? Why or why not?

2. The final chapter of The Myth of Sisyphus can be read here: http://dbanach.com/sisyphus.htm (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.  What do you take Camus to be arguing in this chapter? Do you find his argument to be convincing?

Discussion Board for Week 12

Rawls’ principle of fair equality of opportunity says that inequalities in the distribution of basic social goods, such as wealth and income, are justified only if equally talented and motivated people have roughly equal prospects of achieving the jobs and offices that are associated with those inequalities, regardless of their starting social circumstances (such as their race, gender, or starting social class).

Discussion questions:

1. Identify a policy, not already identified by another student, that you think would bring American society closer to satisfying the principle of fair equality of opportunity. Explain why you think that policy would help us satisfy the principle.

2. Explain one reason for thinking that we should not implement a policy that another student has identified in response to (1). You might draw on material from the lecture here, or you might offer a reason of your own.

3. Respond to an objection another student raised in response to (2) by defending the policy.

Discussion Board for Week 11

1. One of our tasks is to try to translate insights from Just War Theory, which is framed around nation-states, to questions about superheroes. What conditions do you think must hold for a nation-state to justly go to war? Can those same conditions apply for a superhero who goes to war? In particular, address carefully what it takes to have legitimacy.

2. Is there a moral difference between killing versus letting die? Why or why not?

Discussion Board for Week 10

(1) Explain one of the arguments from the lecture that tries to show that we are not morally responsible for our actions.

(2) Briefly develop an objection to that argument, or to an argument presented by another student.

(3) Briefly develop a response to that objection, or to an objection presented by another student.

Discussion Board for Week 9

What are the reasons why we might think that moral objectivism is correct? For someone who suspects that moral objectivism is wrong, what would you recommend as their best alternative account (of the ones discussed in the lectures) and why?

Why might we want to be moral relativists? Do you think that there is a way for a moral relativist to be able to convincingly respond to our intuitions that some actions are wrong (e.g. slavery)irrespective of the cultural views about that action?

Discussion Board for Week 8

1. Can we know anything about the external world? Describe the skeptical challenge to the claim that we have knowledge of the external world. How would you respond to the skeptic?

2. What sorts of ethical concerns should govern our scientific pursuits? Use specific examples of current scientific or technological research programs to discuss your answer

Discussion Board for Week 7

1.     We have been given several arguments for why we might believe that God exists. Which do you think is the strongest argument available to us? Why is it the strongest argument? What might be the best way for someone who disagrees with the argument to respond?

2.     The problem of evil is intended to show a conflict between our conception of God as all-good, all-knowing, and all-powerful and the existence of evil in the world. Which might be the best strategy to resolve this tension? Is there a way to reconcile the kinds of evil in the world and God as originally conceived? Should we ‘weaken’ our conception of God, and think of God as perhaps less powerful, or less knowledgeable, or ‘good’ in a different sense?

Discussion Board for Week 6

1. Are possible worlds abstract or concrete objects? What reasons hold in favor of each view and which one do you believe to be the strongest?

2. Is it possible for you to travel back in time and kill your grandfather? What sense of “possibility” are you using in thinking about and answering this question?

This is the discussion forum for week 6. In order to contribute to your participation grade in the course, posts must directly engage the philosophical material from the week’s lecture. The discussion board for each week will be closed to new posts Sunday at 11:59 PM; no late posts will be accepted.

Please be respectful of other students and their views and ideas, and please contact Sean at [email protected] if you have concerns of any kind about the discussion board.

Discussion Board for Week 5

This is the discussion forum for week 5.

Here are some questions to get things rolling:

1. The “functionalist” view suggests that a computer could have a mind just like ours. It could believe that Cambridge is in Massachusetts, want to live near the beach in LA, and experience pains and pleasures of various kinds. Does this consequence of functionalism seem plausible to you? Why or why not?

2. Is it possible for two people to “switch bodies”—that is, for the mind of one person to come to control the body of another, and vice versa? Could you switch bodies with LeBron James, for instance? Why or why not? Set aside whether it would be possible for us to develop the necessary technology.

Discussion Board for Week 4

This is the discussion forum for week 3. Unless you have been cleared for the alternative participation assignment, you are not required to post to the discussion board. However, it is one great way to contribute to your participation grade for the course. (The other being attending and participating in section.)

In order to contribute to your participation grade in the course, posts must directly engage the philosophical material from the week’s lecture. (E.g., a post about the Batgirl motion comic that did not engage the philosophical material from last week’s lecture would not count.) The discussion board for each week will be closed to new posts Sunday at 11:59 PM; no late posts will be accepted.

Below you will find posts to get the discussion going; feel free to respond to these if you like. Responding to them is not necessary for receiving participation credit from your post. You can also post your own questions or engage with the posts of other students.

Please be respectful of other students and their views and ideas, and please contact Sean at [email protected] if you have concerns of any kind about the discussion board.

Here are some questions to get things rolling:

(1)  We’ve been presented with reasons to deny that lying is necessarily worse than truthful misleading. In your opinion, is lying worse than truthful misleading in some cases? All cases? Why or why not?

(2)  Describe why transparency and oversight are important democratic norms. Is there ever good reason to think that these norms should not hold under certain circumstances, even for a democracy? What kind of circumstances would those be?

Here are some questions to get things rolling:

(1) What, in your opinion, is heroism? Which ethical theory reviewed in the module best captures heroism as you understand it?

(2) Describe one ethical theory addressed in the module and explain a key objection to this theory. Do you think the objection is a good one? Why or why not?

Discussion Board for Weeks 1 and 2

Weeks 1 & 2: The Philosophy of Art

This is the discussion forum for weeks 1 & 2, though it will focus on the lecture material from week 1.

A discussion forum for each week will be opened at the same time that the module for the week is released. Unless you have been cleared for the alternative participation assignment, you are not required to post to the discussion board. However, it is one great way to contribute to your participation grade for the course. (The other being attending and participating in section.)

The discussion board for this week is devoted from the lecture material from last week’s lecture on aesthetics, rather than this week’s lecture on the history of superheroes. Here are some questions to get things rolling:

(1) What is art? Walk through an example that your definition seems to get right.

(2) Describe or link to an article about a borderline case of art — something that isn’t clearly art, but also isn’t clearly not art. For example, is a piece of driftwood that a famous artist picks up on the beach and then provides to a museum for display under her name art? It’s not immediately clear. (All examples should be “safe for work,” thanks!)
