interview project

Interview Project Directions

Interview/Exercise Plan: 200 points. Conduct an interview of an older adult over the age of 65 and write an analysis of this interview. Write an Exercise Prescription for this individual which addresses the five categories of fitness. Include a PAR-Q and health stratification questionnaire. Incorporate fitness testing assessments and prescription practices discussed in class.  Be as thorough as possible when describing the recommended exercise prescription. Write a brief analysis of why the exercises were selected, special considerations and barriers this client may face.

Components of Project:

Section 1: Data Collection

Step 1: Choose someone you feel comfortable speaking to who is over the age of 65 and request an interview with them. They must agree to the interview. Make sure to have them sign the consent form (on the interview question sheet), a PAR-Q and a health risk screening form. If you are conducting the interview over the phone ask for their verbal consent (they don’t need the sign the physical document). You will turn in digital copies of these forms.

Using the questions provided find out about them and their physical activity habits. Ask any additional follow up questions your think may be necessary based on the answers they provided.

Step 2: Write a brief summary of your interview findings. This should be about one paragraph that reflects over what you learned about this client and what information you will need to consider when making their exercise prescription.

Section 2: Exercise Prescription

Step 1: Based on the information gathered in the interview, information presented in class and your knowledge from previous kinesiology course work and come up with an assessment plan and exercise plan that you would recommend to this person if they were your client. You are not required to show the interviewee this program or implement it in any way it is purely hypothetical.

**Please note, as shown on the rubric make sure your assessment and exercise plan contains all necessary components

  1. Select      appropriate assessments for your client based on their current health      status. You must select at least 3 at the minimum. Make sure to describe      the assessments in depth including directions and how results are measured
  2. Select a      cardiovascular program appropriate for your client. Use the FITT acronym      in your recommendation. Include how you would progress this program.
  3. Select      resistance training program, make an educated guess on what weight/ reps/      sets you would place this client at. Include how you would progress this      program.
  4. Select at least      2 balance and 4 flexibility exercises. Include how you would progress this      program.
  5. Organize all of      this information into a chart or easy to follow table that includes all      necessary components including exercise descriptions and progressions.      Create a sample day and week workout plan including warm-up and cool down      exercises.

Section 3: Analysis

Write a brief summary that explains the decision-making process behind your exercise plan. This section should explain why the exercise and assessment choices were made based on your interviewee’s health status and physical activity level. Be sure to explain any special considerations or contraindications that applied to this specific individual.

Make sure this section any barriers they may face, how you would motivate them and what goals you would set for them.

For this project you will turn in:

1. A copy of your interview transcript/Qs & As

2. Your interview summary

3. All forms (Par-Q and health risk stratification form)

4. A copy of your assessment plan and workout plan for your interviewee (all details included)

5. Your analysis summary about the exercise prescription that you wrote

Cognition, Emotion, Motivation

Your writing should illustrate knowledge of the concepts through an original personal and/or professional integration of the assigned text material. Sociocultural factors must be included when relevant.  This is covered throughout the course text. You are encouraged to use outside, current research to enhance sociocultural integration.

Your response to each question should be approx. 1 page per question.

Total assignment should be 6-7 pages plus a title and reference page

 1.  People with a deliberative mindset are very good at thinking about what they need to do, whereas people who have developed an implemental mindset have the ability to narrow in on a specific goal or facets of a specific goal.  Considering an example from your own life, how might you develop a deliberative or implemental mindset to complement the mindset that you already use?

2.  What is your understanding of the difference between self-efficacy and ability?  Is there a difference?  Is the difference important? Give an original example to support your response.

3.  Imagine being a cognitively oriented therapist who has two clients. One client suffers from severe self-doubt about his capacity to cope successfully with the demands of college.  College is an overwhelming experience.  What strategies might you use to reverse his high doubt and replace it with high confidence?  The other client suffers from severe helplessness about her capacity to cope successfully with her boyfriend relationship.  Her boyfriend is unresponsive, and everything she tries to do to improve the relationship seems to fall on a deaf ear.  What strategies might you use to reverse her high helplessness and replace it with mastery motivation?

4.  Suppose you are a counselor at a summer camp for delinquent pre-teenage boys who lack any occupational aspirations and exhibit antisocial interaction styles.  You are having a meeting to brainstorm how to use the possible selves literature to provide these boys with an expanded view of their future selves.  Would this meeting be a good idea or a bad idea, and why? Include a discussion of the biological basis of antisocial behavior.

5.  In the following example, explain why the emotion of fear/terror rather than the physiological need for air is the primary motivator: A child puts a sweater on over his head, it gets stuck, and the child experiences a moment of air deprivation.  He then shows panic-like emotion and finally coping behavior. Differentiate between the emotional and biological aspects of the child’s reaction.

6.  Discuss the “cognition versus biology” debate in the study of emotion.  Outline first the cognitive position and then the biological position.  Discuss one possible, satisfying resolution to the cognition versus biology debate, using an original example to illustrate this resolution.

CAPITAL STRUCTURE AND DIVIDEND PAYOUTS

The board of directors of Baldwin Inc. met today to discuss the capital structure and dividend policy of the company. The board discussed the optimal capital structure of 50 percent debt and 50 percent equity. Management chose this capital structure because they believe that would have the highest firm value. During the meeting it came up that debt provides tax benefits to the firm because interest is tax deductible whereas dividend is not. Therefore, the debt ratio of 50 percent was not supported by some board members. One board member, Gregg wanted the capital structure to be 70% debt and 30% equity because he believes a high debt ratio is beneficial to shareholders. However, Jeff Warren, the CFO of the company, stressed in his presentation to the board that debt can put pressure on the firm because interests and principal payments are fixed obligations that the company must pay, no matter the profit of the company. He stated that if these obligations are not met, the company may risk some sort of financial distress and files for bankruptcy. Jeff continued to explain that if the company files for bankruptcy there are direct and indirect costs that Baldwin must incur.Mr. Milosvoski, another board member suggested that there are ways to reduce the cost of debt by hiring an expert to handle the company’s debt agreements between the shareholders and bondholders. He stated that protective covenants are incorporated as part of the loan agreement and must be taken seriously because a broken covenant can lead to default. He believed that costs of debt can be reduced with negative covenants and a positive covenant. John Miller, the Investor Relations Officer stated that one reason bankruptcy costs are so high is that different creditors and their lawyers contend with each other. He suggested that if debt can be consolidated, or if  bondholders can be allowed to purchase stock of the company bankruptcy cost will be reduced. In this way, stockholders and debtholders are not pitted against each other because they are not separate entities. He cited examples in Japan where large banks generally take significant stock positions in the firms to which they lend money. The employee representative on the board, Ms. Johnson used the agency costs to explain that when a firm has debt, conflicts of interest arise between stockholders and bondholders. Because of this, stockholders are tempted to pursue selfish strategies. These strategies are costly because they will lower the market value of the firm. Philip Suzuki, director of Marketing and a board member was of the view that determining optimal debt-equity ratio is not an easy task and varies across industries so Baldwin should follow the rules of the pecking-order theory when financing capital projects. No agreement was reached on the company’s capital structure, but the CEO and Jeff believed that the 50-50 debt-equity ratio will minimize the cost of capital and improve the value of the firm. The board is retaining you as the financial consultant to assist with the company’s capital structure and dividend payout decisions. The Chairman of the board wants you to address the following questions:

  1.  List three advantages and two disadvantages of the 70% debt ratio proposed by Gregg.
  2.  State five examples of direct costs, indirect costs and agency costs associated with financial distress that Jeff stated in his presentation to the board.
  3. Explain the following cost reduction techniques suggested by Mr. Milosvoski and John Miller.
    1. positive covenant
    2. negative covenant
    3. debt consolidation
  4. Explain the rules of pecking-order theory of capital structure as suggested to the board members by Mr. Suzuki, the director of Marketing. List three implications of the pecking-order theory.
  5. Baldwin Inc. is planned to pay dividends of $3 per share to shareholders in 2020 (total dividend is $3 million). But because of high personal taxes on dividend income, the company postponed the dividend to next 5 years when they believe a new tax legislation will be passed by Congress to give tax exemption on dividend and investment income. Suggest three alternatives to the board of how the available cash can be used in place of the dividend.
  6. Identify four factors that can support high-dividend policy to stockholders of Baldwin?
  7. Baldwin Inc. wants you to help them prepare a dividend policy which will guide the first dividend payout of the company in 2025. List five characteristics of a sensible dividend policy you want the board to know.

Executive Summary

Vehicles for Change, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, approached University of Baltimore students to find strategic ways to generate more revenue from the 1,700 vehicles that are donated each year. Vehicles for Change does a great job of creating their own revenue from multiple different sources outside of traditional philanthropy. This includes an automotive garage that does at-cost work on cars, a car re-sale lot, and selling any other donated car at public auctions or to a junk yard. Making just $50 more per vehicle, would help make Vehicles for Change $85,000 worth of revenue each year. For a nonprofit with a budget just under $4 million, this is a transformational amount of money. Our group came up with two focus areas for Vehicles for Change. The first is to establish their own online auction platform. This would be managed and promoted in-house. This would be an extension of the existing program “Freedom Wheels.” The secondrecommendation includes investing in themselves when it comes to marketing. We will be recommending strategies including search engine optimization, paid social media marketing, and other strategies that can be used to gain media attention and to motivate new donors. These marketing suggestions will be instrumental in the implementation of the online auction but can benefit the organization even if they choose to forgo this recommendation.

Business Strategy Recommendations

The first strategy we recommend is to expand upon the Vehicles for Change program, Freedom Wheels. This program is a great way to generate extra revenue for the organization, but it does not have a very big reach. We recommend two specific strategies to do this; build an online auction portal with the ability to see the car in person and implement new search engine optimization and marketing strategies.

Implementing an online auction would provide many benefits to Vehicles for Change. The first benefit includes reducing the transportation of cars to auction. This saves Vehicles for change time and towing expenses. This also benefits the environment with less emissions exhausted into the world. Vehicles for Change will have more control over how long the cars are “live” on auction. Based on the number of bids they are getting on each car they can keep the auction open longer to increase the price. Finally, live auctions houses have a lot of fees associated with them. Based on the statistics provided by Vehicles for Change, the organization spends a minimum of $85,000 on auction fees. VFC pays $50 to auction fees for cars that are sold under $500 and $150 for cars that are sold over $500.

In order to implement this expansion of Freedom Wheels, VFC needs to purchase an online auction platform, these range from $500 – $5,000 per year. Here is a link to review a few different platforms that are good for nonprofits. The next step is to determine a staff person to manage this. They need to be able to photograph the vehicles and upload the pictures to the platform. This person should have marketing and communication skills. Additionally, they need to have some knowledge of cars in order to promote them correctly and answer any questions that come up on the platform. The platform should have a feature that allows people to schedule appointments to see the vehicles in person on the Freedom Wheels lot. The next step is building brand awareness about this auction and the program.

During our research, we discovered that VFC does not show up very high up in a Google search. Depending on the location of our team members, sometimes it did not even appear on the first page. In order to build this project and expand the reach of shoppers, this needs to change. Implementing search engine optimization marketing strategies. Boosting where you appear on a Google search can help you compete with larger networks for a cheap price. These strategies will help you expand your network and drive web traffic, ending up with more bids on cars, donations and awareness of your organization.

The top strategies that are recommended to improve your rankings include having a mobile friendly website, creating quality content, using key words and “back links.” VFC does a few of these things extremely well. The website is mobile friendly with a lot of quality content and blog posts. The Social Media channels compliment the website well and drive viewers back to the site using links.Visuals and video are recommended to help boost SEO rankings, but VFC does a great job with producing these and putting them on the website as well as the social media channels.

The two strategies that do not seem to be used as much, at least from an outsiders perspective are key words and “backlinks,” these two things will be critical to boosting VFC’s rankings. To learn more about what key words you need to focus on, use tools like Google Ads Keyword Planner and Semrush.

“Backlinks” means having your website URL on other website so those audiences can click back to your site. Not only does this manually drive people to your site, but this shows Google that you are a credible and trusted website. We encourage VFC to ask their partners to put their link on their sites. We would also encourage VFC to ask any media who does a story on the programs to include a website link in the article.

A few other tips include renaming photos with your keywords before you upload them onto the website, using keywords in the tittles of your blog posts. Google likes to see their own products being used, so if you have any reason to put a presentation on your website, be sure to use Google Slides.

Our next recommendation is to invest in Google Ads, this way you are the organization that comes up first on the google search when people search for your keywords. We know that this is an investment, but we believe it will be critical to getting the virtual auction up and running.

Moving on to our general marketing strategy recommendations that will continue to benefit your SEO rankings. We want VFC to really tap into what makes them different from other nonprofits who accept cars as donations. VFC uses these cars to further their mission, most other nonprofits only use these for a financial gain, not to help the community. This can generate more donations, and possibly cars that are in better shape.

Next, we recommend focusing more on social media marketing and shying away from radio public service announcements. as part of your advertising campaign. Unless the PSAs are donated, social media marketing is significantly cheaper and very effective.

‘Identifying Piaget Concepts Developing Age Appropriate Toys, Games

For this 20 point Exercise I would like you to choose one of the 4 Stages of Piaget’s Cognitive Theory of Development. Describe the Stage in depth and then create a board game, sport related game, video, cartoon or toy for children in the age group and Stage you chose to study in depth. Your invention must be original. Use your imagination and have fun with this assignment. Be creative.

Explain the reasoning behind your toy or game based on the abilities and the limitations of your age group. Describe why the invention is unique to your aged children, why it is age appropriate, any precautions about the toy (not suitable for? And why). Use the language of the Cognitive Stage you are working from.

For example if I were inventing a toy for a child in the sensorimotor stage I might be cautious about the size and shape of my invention as in this stage children are testing things in their mouth and a danger could be of swallowing a small object.

You will be graded on the following:

1. Choose one of the Stages of Cognitive Development and Describe the stage in depth (5 pts)

Remember to start with the heading (your name, my name, name of course, date)  (1 point)

Accurate grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and punctuation (4 points)

TOTAL: 30 points

Example for #3-5:  When I am reading an assignment, I do not pause either at the end of a paragraph or the end of a page to think about what I have read. I think that I should start doing that, though, because it would give me an opportunity to check to see what I have learned. If I can paraphrase the main idea of the paragraph in my own words, that would help me to grasp the content better and remember it for a longer period of time. To do this, however, I am going to have to allow myself more time to read a chapter in the textbook. It might even help to write down my paraphrase so that I can use it when it comes time to study for an exam.

Questions for Kristoffer Polaha

You may recognize Kristoffer from his small-but-important role in “Wonder Woman 1984,” from his starring turn in the television series “Life Unexpected” or from his extensive work for the Hallmark Channel. You may also have caught one of his guest-starring turns on popular shows like “The Good Doctor” and “Mad Men.”

Your assignment — is to visit Kris’s website, read his biography and learn more about his work. In addition, I want you to watch at least one movie or TV episode that he starred in (“Wonder Woman 1984” doesn’t count because his part was so small). Some options are …

Best option for most: Season 4, Episode 8 of “The Good Doctor,” available free on ABC.com. (Kris plays the coach/father in the episode)

“Where Hope Grows,” available free with Amazon Prime Video,  Hulu and some other subscription services.

“Run the Race,” available free with Amazon Prime Video, Hulu and some other subscription services.

An episode of “Life Unexpected,” available free with CBS All Access

As you can tell from Kris’s IMDB page, he has an extensive list of credits. If you would like to rent another of his movies or shows … or have access to one through another streaming service feel free to run it by me. The main goal is for you to see him in action before our conversation March 1. As noted, Kris has done a lot of work with the Hallmark Channel. Those of you who subscribe to a TV provider may have on-demand access to some of that programming through the Hallmark website.

After you have done your reading and viewing, submit at least five questions you would like to ask Kris during our conversation. Be sure to make a copy so you have them available during our meeting. My goal is for you to ask most of the questions during our conversation. This assignment is worth 30 points.

MG496 Unit 6 Homework

Case 9: Harley Davidson: An Overreliance on Aging Baby Boomers (International Issues in Strategic Management

Conduct a strategic analysis using the Executive Summary template.  Prepare and submit a three-page executive summary that discusses what strategic alternatives are available and provide a recommended strategy.

You are to work alone to analyze and prepare the Executive Summary for the case.  NOTE: Click “Submit Assignment” in the upper right hand corner of your screen to turn in your Executive Summary no later than Sunday, midnight CT.. Name your file with your name and the unit number, i.e. Jones1 or Brown1. Your file should be in either Microsoft word (.doc or .docx) or rich text (.rtf) format.

The following information will be required for the Executive Summary.  TEXTBOOK CASE ANALYSIS GUIDANCE(CAG) and the TEXTBOOK BUSINESS CASE ANALYSIS EXECUTIVE SUMMARY TEMPLATE  downloadThese files are required for the unit textbook case studies.

Synopsis of the Case: The content of the synopsis should present relevant background facts about the case under examination.

Relevant Factual Information about the Problem or Decision the Organization Faced: State the precise problem or decision the organization faced.  The section should include information that addressed the business issue under examination. This section should be no longer than a single paragraph.

Explanation of Relevant Concepts, Theories and Applications Derived from Course Materials:  This section should be the bulk of your paper. Analysis of the business problem or decision in light of the course concepts must be presented, as well as the business lesson another organization could learn from this situation. Besides citation to the text, learners must conduct research in the University library related to the top. Citing the textbook only is not enough to demonstrate you understand and can apply the course objectives. Here is where comparative and contrasting positions should be considered and examples and illustrations provided.

Recommendations: Provide logical recommendations to address the business lesson identified above. The recommendations need not to be specific to the organization examined, but should consider how other organizations, if similarly situated, could lessen the impact of the problem or decision identified. Recall, that the organization under examination has already moved pasted this problem so any recommendations made, at this point, are fruitless. The focus of this section should be on what other companies should be aware of to address similar problems or decisions. Citation to the textbook alone is insufficient for analysis in this section. Learners should conduct research in the University’s library to support their positions. Depth of scholarship is not demonstrated by providing personal opinions alone, but by using examples, analogies, comparison and illustrations from the academic literature. Not only does this synthesize the material to assist the reader’s understanding, it is an effective way to present the academic sources and extend the discussion of your ideas. This section should be a paragraph or two.

Alternative Recommendations: This section is not a continuation of the prior. Provide suggestions for how to avoid the problem or decision the examined organization faced. Analysis here should be may be forward- thinking, predictive or, most likely, preventative in nature but tied to the thesis statement. Again, opinion is insufficient to provide the required academic analysis. Sources, other than the text, must be provided to sustain the statements made. This section should be a paragraph, at most.

Conclusion: End the assignment with a summary of the important points made in the document. No new information may be presented. Writing a conclusion can be done by rewording the opening or reformulation the topic sentences of each paragraph to make a summary for the reader. This section should be a paragraph, at most.
