Using Financial Information

Using Financial Information

You and a business partner are considering the purchase of a firm that has been in business for five years.  Your associate does not have any financial accounting expertise, but recognizes that financial information is central to every organization.  Recently, this associate, who is not familiar with financial statements, asks you a series of questions.  In your own words respond to the following questions that are being asked by your business partner.

  • How does a balance sheet differ from an income statement?
  • What does the term ‘owners’ equity’ mean?
  • What is the difference between fixed assets and total assets?
  • What is the difference between long-term liabilities and current liabilities?
  • How would you describe the difference between a statement of cash flow and an income statement?
  • What can be used to identify a business’ financial strengths and weaknesses?
  • Why should we be concerned with all these financial processes when we can get an accounting firm to handle this stuff while we focus on daily business operations?

This assignment submission must be at least 3-pages, not including APA cover page or references page using the APA Manual 7th ed. Make sure references are formatted correctly not leaving out any information from sources.

Discussion: Neo-Psychoanalytic and Behavioral Personality Theories

Neo-psychoanalytic approaches to personality include theorists such as Jung, Horney, Erikson, Adler, and Sullivan. Also referred to as “Neo-Freudians,” this group of theorists was influenced by Freud but developed their own unique concepts of personality development. Although they subscribed to Freud’s underlying theory that childhood experiences powerfully impact adult behavior, each theorist departed from Freud in significant ways. Taken together, they emphasize social and cultural roles in personality development.

Behavioral perspectives include the seminal ideas put forth by Watson, Pavlov, and Skinner and apply these ideas to personality development. The behavioral perspective on personality is based on the central role of consequences, either from human interaction or the natural environment. Behaviors are reinforced or discouraged by consequences, which shapes personality. For example, actions such as being kind or agreeable are typically rewarded. When behaviors are rewarded, they are more likely to be repeated. Then, being kind or agreeable as a personality trait takes shape. Conversely, negative behaviors may also be reinforced or represent the failure to learn or have reinforced more appropriate responses. Skinner extended this theory to mental illness as learned maladaptive behavior. In contrast to personality theories that emphasize internal influences, behavioral theories concentrate on the external and the capacity to correct problems through the same focus.

This week, you will examine two theoretical orientations – neo-psychoanalytic and behavioral, including their respective theorists, cultural considerations, assessments/interventions, limitations, and unique aspects. You will also apply one theory from each orientation to case study analyses.

Review the Learning Resources, focusing on theorists, cultural considerations, assessments/interventions, limitations, and unique aspects of both neo-psychoanalytic theory and behavioral theory.

Post one key idea from the neo-psychoanalytic theoretical orientation and one from behavioral theory. What is a main difference between these theoretical orientations? What is similar between these theories?  Which one do you more closely align with?

MS Word Assignment 3

NOTE: Doing this assignment amounts to writing a rough draft of your paper.  Apply any feedback you’ll be receiving on this assignment to your next MS Word Assignment (#4), the final draft, to maximize your points.

In this assignment, you will complete your paper and submit it for a plagiarism check. Be sure to give credit to your sources throughout your paper using the Word reference features to enter internal citations.

Take into account the following guidelines:

Research papers are organized so that the information flow resembles an hourglass in that it goes from the overall idea to more specific (detailed) description and then back to general (overall) again.  The introduction section will introduce the topics and provide general information. The methods and results will provide specific, detailed information about this research project and the discussion/conclusion will discuss the findings in a larger context.

The following section will describe each of these parts in more detail.

The body of your paper should include:

· Introduction: The introduction begins by introducing the broad overall topic and providing basic background information.  It then narrows down to the specific research question relating to this topic.  It provides the purpose and focus for the rest of the paper and sets up the justification for the research.

· A brief explanation of your choices. The body should tell why you chose that particular “Ethical Issue” and “Emerging Technology”. Explain in detail on what you discovered.

· Explain the benefits and limitations of the emerging technology that you have chosen to write about. Details should be supported by your research.

· Evaluate the ethical issue that you have chosen. Relate this issue to the identified emerging technology (above) if possible. Support your opinion by citing facts learned in your research.

· The Reference pages (APA style) . You should already have this created using the Word Reference feature. You should also use the Word Reference feature to make your internal citations.

Assignment title:  Alignment of Standards to Assessments

My Major in this class is: Master of Communication with emphasis on Education

=====================================================================

Every content area that is taught in higher education has a Specialized Professional Association (SPA) that produces standards that should be taught. Find the SPA for your content area. Some examples are NCTE (English), NCTM (Mathematics), ILA (Reading), NCSS (Social Studies/History), and NSTA (Science). Once you have located your SPA, find the most recent standards the association has written for initial licensure programs. Review the standards and choose one.

Using the standard you chose, write an objective that students could accomplish in order to meet that standard. Objectives have three parts: behavior, condition, and criterion. The behavior is what students will be able to do and is derived directly from the standard. The condition is how the students will do it, typically some type of activity. The criterion is the degree of accuracy you would like to observe.

Finally, in 250-500 words, describe the assessment you would use to measure whether or not the students achieved the objective and mastered the standard. This should be on one document. Your paper should include:

1. Standard (from the SPA)

2. Objective

3. Assessment

APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Week One – Risk Identification Worksheet and Paper

For this week’s assignment, I have attached and highlighted the information I would use in the paper. Along with websites, you can find information to support.

Scenario Two

A construction company has been awarded the contract to build a pipeline in Alaska. The project timeline is of the highest priority because work can only be completed during the summer months due to adverse weather conditions. One of the suppliers of a key component has a longer lead time than is required to complete the pipeline but may deliver if the construction company will pay fees to expedite. There are other suppliers, but these suppliers are not on the construction company’s approved supplier list, and it would take time to get them approved. There is a huge penalty in the contract if the project is not completed on time.

Write a 1,050- to 1,750-word paper in which you select one scenario from the Risk Identification Scenarios worksheet and do the following:

  • Define the risk management process.
  • Explain the role of risk management in the project planning process.
  • Describe at least two risks and their sources for the selected scenario.
  • Outline how the risk management may mitigate the risks for each risk listed.
  • Explain how you would document the risk.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

IRAC3

Use a newspaper, news magazine, or the internet (including articles posted on Canvas by instructor) to find a current article (if uncertain, please see the instructor to have your topic approved) related to business law to write about.  Briefly summarize your article and include some interesting facts or highlights. Lastly, and most importantly, discuss any concerns, issues, or thoughts you have about the subject matter raised in the article. This will be done by writing an IRAC (Issue, Rule, Analysis, Conclusion) about the article.

Note on the syllabus calendar that there are two categories for the assignments.  The IRAC must apply to the subjects shown below:

IRAC #3 – Contracts

IRAC Basics:

Summary – write a brief summary of the article or case (no more than one (1) page.  Four things to remember when writing a summary:

  • use your words and phrases, not the author’s
  • use key points only…no details.
  • represent the material accurately and fairly
  • cite your source!!!!!!!!

Issue(s) – are written in the form of questions!  These issues are questions one might ask regarding how the law applies to the article you have chosen.

Rules – are the laws/rules that the writer thinks may apply to the issues. Remember…the rule MUST BE CITED!

Analysis – is where the writer either proves or disproves the application of the rules.  This is a major focus of the paper and presentation….critical thinking must be applied.

Conclusion – will take one of two approaches.  First, if the court has decided the case, do you agree with the decision?  Why, or why not?  If the court has yet to make a decision, what do you think needs to be done, and why.

There is no minimum or limitation to the length of the paper.  The writer’s approach is to be concise, organized, and complete in the presentation of the case. If you need any further clarification of this assignment, please make an appointment to see me during office hours.

Be sure to attach the news article/court case to your essay. If the article/case is not attached a score will not be given. The attachment can be in the form of a link to a web page.
