Description

Assignment:

in order to produce an excellent finish. Bob was spotted by Ross last week in one of Fine

Furniture’s vans in his uniform at an address that was not an existing customer of Fine Furniture. When challenged, Bob was unable to account for his presence at the address. Ross was angry as Bob was clearly “moonlighting” and asked Bob to meet him and Adam at a meeting later the same day. At the meeting, Bob was dismissed for “moonlighting” and told to leave immediately without any pay. Bob was not given an opportunity to speak and he was not told of a right to appeal. In his claim form, Bob states that other employees had also been found “moonlighting” but had merely been given warnings and not dismissed. He

claims that Ross saw him at 9am and he was on his way to his first job. He admits that he had done a quick woodwork job but it was outside of office hours.

Extracts from Bob’s contract of employment:

Salary: €24,000 per annum

Benefits: €500 bonus per month if all fitting jobs completed satisfactorily, private health insurance, subsidised canteen

Notice: three month’s notice for the termination of contract

Holiday: 24 days per year

Advise Bob on his right to claim for unfair dismissal; whether he would win this claim; where he can claim and what he could hope to get as a remedy. https://homeworkharbour.info/please-if-you-can-watch-the-film-crash-2004-crime-dramaalthough-crash-focuses

Advise Fine Furniture on their rights in this claim, advising whether they can say this was a fair dismissal or not and the dismissal procedure they should have followed.

Narrative photo essay

Narrative photo essays tell a story in a sequence, the same way you might read a story. There must be a flow to keep the viewers eye and emotion moving smoothly through the story. Think of your favorite book and how it kept you yearning for the next page. A good photo essay will hold you on each image but also make you want to explore the next image as the story unfolds.

While the photo essay should be able to tell a thoughtful and vivid story without any text, captions are usually needed to clarify the message that viewers walk away with. More lengthy written pieces are optional. The intimate goal is to hook the viewer into the theme and evoke their emotional connection to the story.

To tell the story, a range of purposeful images should be included in a well-planned format. The goal is to invite the viewer in and guide them through the story, just as they would move through an engaging book or view a dramatic play. The idea is similar, to quickly hook the viewer and set a scene, and then lead them carefully as action may rise, climax, and fall back to a moment of resolution.

The number of images and the presentation order is generally at the photographer’s discretion. However, during an interview with The Candid Frame, William Albert Allard shared the following essay outline used while on assignment for National Geographic:

  1. LEAD PHOTO: Hook the viewer and provoke their curiosity while encompassing the theme of the essay
  2. SET THE SCENE: A broad description of the location. A high vantage point is helpful for this image. Look for layers in a landscape to create depth.
  3. PORTRAITS: These images are essential for evoking the emotional, human connection between the viewer and the story.
  4. DETAILS: By focusing on only one element the viewer can be clearly guided through the story – a pattern, a face, a building. A caption should clarify the significance of this image to inform and educate.
  5. CLOSE-UP: An opportunity to pull the viewer closer to explore the abstract and artistic elements within the story that could be easily overlooked. Dirty hands,  coffee beans, woodgrains – these images offer another opportunity to inform and educate through well written captions.
  6. THE PHOTO: This is “the moment.” This is the image that freezes the whole story and wows the reader. If they only remember one image, this is the one!
  7. CLOSURE: Before selecting this image, know the mood you want to leave the viewer with. Sadness, anger, hope, excitement – this closing image should pull and hold an emotion.

Assignment 1: Discussion—Sociological Causes of Crime

Assignment 1: Discussion—Sociological Causes of Crime

Natalie will be one of the first in her family to earn a college degree. She is determined to earn her bachelor’s degree in psychology and then possibly go on to a master’s degree, or even a doctorate. However, these dreams need to deal with reality. She has two children to raise on her own, and has to stay active with work as well as her children’s lives. She is proud of her accomplishments and hopes that her children will go as far, if not further with their education.

Natalie’s two brothers did not seem to have the same chances. Her oldest brother seems to have the most difficult time. He was always angry as a teenager and got suspended from school on a number of occasions due to fights. Once, he got into an altercation with a teacher and hit the teacher pretty hard; he was expelled from school. He took his GED at a boys’ boot camp run by the sheriff’s office. When he was released at the age of eighteen, he had a difficult time landing a job and worked on and off as a day laborer. He was later arrested for stealing tools from a construction site and sent back to jail. This only seemed to increase his anger towards everyone. Natalie stopped visiting him and now keeps in touch sporadically. The last she heard, he was working odd jobs and relying on alcohol and drugs.

Natalie wonders why her brother has turned out so different. Of course, they all had the same childhood, and their father was an abusive alcoholic. But all the more reason, she thought, her brothers would choose a different path. She wondered if they had the same choices as she did. Did being a male make life harder? She always thought men had it easier in life. She wondered if her brothers were to blame for their decisions and life choices, or if they ever had a real choice at all. She felt frustrated that, with all her psychology courses, she still could not tell why her brothers turned out so differently.

Research theories related to gender and crime using the textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet. Identify scholarly, peer-reviewed sources for use in this assignment.

Based on the scenario, your readings and research, respond to the following:

  • Select at least two different, contemporary theories that would apply to the case.
  • Employ the theories to explain why Natalie and her brothers have chosen different paths in life.

Give reasons in support of your responses.

Write your initial response in 4–6 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Mexican culture and family beliefs

Scenario: Mr. Perez is a 76-year-old Mexican American who was recently diagnosed with a slow heartbeat requiring an implanted pacemaker. Mr. Perez has been married for 51 years and has 6 adult children (three daughters aged 50, 48, and 42; three sons aged 47, 45, and 36), 11 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. The youngest boy lives three houses down from Mr. and Mrs. Perez. The other children, except the second-oldest daughter, live within 3 to 10 miles from their parents. The second-oldest daughter is a registered nurse and lives out of state. All members of the family except for Mr. Perez were born in the United States. He was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 in order to work and send money back to the family in Mexico. Mr. Perez has returned to Mexico throughout the years to visit and has lived in Texas ever since. He is retired from work in a machine shop.

Mr. Perez has one living older brother who lives within 5 miles. All members of the family speak Spanish and English fluently. The Perez family is Catholic, as evidenced by the religious items hanging on the wall and prayer books and rosary on the coffee table. Statues of St. Jude and Our Lady of Guadalupe are on the living room table. Mr. and Mrs. Perez have made many mandas (bequests) to pray for the health of the family, including one to thank God for the healthy birth of all the children, especially after the doctor had discouraged them from having any more children after the complicated birth of their first child. The family attends Mass together every Sunday morning and then meets for breakfast chorizo at a local restaurant frequented by many of their church’s other parishioner families. Mr. Perez believes his health and the health of his family are in the hands of God.

The Perez family lives in a modest four-bedroom ranch home that they bought 22 years ago. The home is in a predominantly Mexican American neighborhood located in the La Loma section of town. Mr. and Mrs. Perez are active in the church and neighborhood community. The Perez home is usually occupied by many people and has always been the gathering place for the family. During his years of employment, Mr. Perez was the sole provider for the family and now receives social security checks and a pension. Mrs. Perez is also retired and receives a small pension for a short work period as a teacher’s aide. Mr. and Mrs. Perez count on their nurse daughter to guide them and advise on their health care.

Mr. Perez visits a curandero for medicinal folk remedies. Mrs. Perez is the provider of spiritual, physical, and emotional care for the family. In addition, their nurse daughter is always present during any major surgeries or procedures. Mrs. Perez and her daughter the nurse will be caring for Mr. Perez during his procedure for a pacemaker.

  1. Explain the significance of family and kinship for the Perez family.
  2. Describe the importance of religion and God for the Perez family.
  3. Identify two stereotypes about Mexican Americans that were dispelled in this case with the Perez family.
  4. What is the role of Mrs. Perez in this family?
  5. Should be at least 500 words, formatted and cited in current APA style with support from at least 2 academic sources.
