The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act: How it Affects Health Care Decisions and Outcomes

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) requires that U.S. citizens and legal residents obtain qualifying health coverage. Write a report of 6-8 pages that explores the individual mandate section of this health reform law and how current legislation impacts this. Complete the following:

  • Explain the individual mandate included in the PPACA including the tax penalties imposed if a person or family had not obtained qualifying health coverage.
  • How has mandated health insurance coverage under PPACA worked?  What impacted its success? If you were required to make one policy change or enhancement to ensure the success of an individual mandate such as included in the PPACA, what would you recommend?
  • Assess the historical relationship between the cost of health care and outcomes in the United States with the cost of health care and outcomes in another country. What policies could be considered to assist in changing the relationship between costs and outcomes to a more efficient relationship in the United States, if at all?

Note: Your report should use APA formatting, and you must include 6 references, 4 of which are peer-reviewed sources from health care journals and published within the last 5 years.

Relationship paper

Relationship

The purpose of this assignment is to examine the role of communication in creating and sustaining relationships by analyzing interpersonal communication principles and concepts in the development, maintenance, and possibly, the deterioration of a long term significant relationship.

This assignment is linked to the following Student Learning Outcome:

  • Evaluate orally and in writing intrapersonal skill concepts

This assignment is designed to help you practice evaluating orally and in writing interpersonal skill concepts covered in this course. You will by analyzing a relationship that is important to you and describing it in terms used in the textbook and class discussions. This assignment has two components: a 2-4 page paper and oral presentation.

No matter what type of relationship we are in—whether in terms of friendship, romance, or family, all relationships are in the process of either developing or dying.  The paper and presentation require you to analyze an interpersonal relationship using communication concepts/theories and principles from the text and lectures (as well as incorporating the social context of generation and culture).

The relationship you choose to write about can be one that you are currently engaged in or one that has already ended.   It should, however, be a fairly recent one, not a relationship you had in grade school.  It can be a friendship relationship or a romantic relationship.  You don’t need to disclose any information you are not comfortable disclosing.

This paper involves more than just simply summarizing the development of a relationship.  While you will want to offer some description of the relationship; the main emphasis should be on how it has developed in communication between two people.  Your paper should contain the following five parts:

  1. Cover Page: (include your name, the date, class name, my name)
  2. Introduction:  Describe the relationship. Who are the participants? What is the history of the relationship? What is the current status of the relationship?  This information should be relatively brief. Next, preview the body of the paper by indicating the terms/concepts you will use to analyze the relationship.

Body:  In this section of the paper you will analyze the relationship using interpersonal communication concepts, terms, topics, etc. This is by far the longest section of the paper.

  1. Select at least two concepts that we’ve discussed in class and apply them to your relationship.  You should discuss these concepts in depth and explain how they affected the communication in your relationship. Use evidence to support your claims and —using direct quotes from the text, and specific examples from your relationship.
  2. Some concepts you should consider using are: self-disclosure, nonverbal communication, drawbacks of mediated communication, perception checking, listening, self-fulfilling prophecies, social roles, gender communication, influence of culture, self-concept, self-esteem, self-disclosure, relational dialectics, confirming/disconfirming messages, interpersonal attraction, expressing emotions, trust, rituals, commitment, investment, managing conflict.

4. Conclusion:  This section includes a brief summary of the body of the paper.  End the paper with some reflections on your relationship, and what you learned as a result of completing this assignment. If you feel you learned nothing, that is fine but you need to elaborate.

5. Reference Page: Provide a list in APA format of any references you used in your paper. Your textbook should be included in this list.

Papers will be evaluated based on three criteria:

  1. First, papers must demonstrate an understanding of interpersonal communication topics.
  2. Second, in your paper, you must analyze how these interpersonal communication topics apply to your particular relationship.
  3. Third, papers must be well organized and demonstrate effective writing mechanics and style. Your overall grade will depend on whether or not you include the five components outlined in the previous slides.

Papers must be typed, double spaced, 12pt font, one-inch margins all around.  Acceptable college level of grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, paragraph structure, and spelling should be utilized.  Be sure to edit your paper carefully before turning it in. Papers should be 2-4 pages (2 pages of text, one cover page, one reference page).

History Writing Assignment 3

The greatest source of Machiavelli’s reputation is, of course, his book The Prince (1532). The main theme of this short book is that all means may be resorted to for the establishment and preservation of authority — the end justifies the means — and that the worst and most treacherous acts  of the ruler are justified by the wickedness and treachery of the governed. Therefore, using whatever means necessary to protect the stability of the state was perfectly logical.

So…..read the quote below about Machiavelli and his groundbreaking political theory, and then answer the question below it.  (You may wish to read other sections of The Prince – it is fairly short and you can Google a complete copy online, or try  http://www.ilt.columbia.edu/publications/machiavelli.html (Links to an external site.).)

It has been a common view among political philosophers that there exists a special relationship between moral goodness and legitimate authority.

Many authors (especially those who composed mirror-of-princes books or royal advice books during the Middle Ages and Renaissance) believed that the use of political power was only rightful if it was exercised by a ruler whose personal moral character was strictly virtuous. Thus rulers were counseled that if they wanted to succeed—that is, if they desired a long and peaceful reign and aimed to pass their office down to their offspring—they must be sure to behave in accordance with conventional standards of ethical goodness. In a sense, it was thought that rulers did well when they did good; they earned the right to be obeyed and respected inasmuch as they showed themselves to be virtuous and morally upright.

It is precisely this moralistic view of authority that Machiavelli criticizes at length in  his best-known treatise, The Prince. For Machiavelli, there is no moral basis on which to judge the difference between legitimate and illegitimate uses of power. Rather, authority and power are essentially coequal: whoever has power has the right to command; but goodness does not ensure power and the good person has no more authority by virtue of being good. Thus, in direct opposition to a moralistic theory of politics, Machiavelli says that the only real concern of the political ruler is the acquisition and maintenance of power (although he talks less about power per se than about “maintaining the state.”) In this sense, Machiavelli presents a trenchant criticism of the concept of authority by arguing that the notion of legitimate rights of rulership adds nothing  to the actual possession of power. The Prince purports to reflect the self-conscious political realism of an author who is fully aware—on the basis of direct experience with the Florentine  government—that goodness and right are not sufficient to win and maintain political office. Machiavelli thus seeks to learn and teach the rules of political power. For Machiavelli, power characteristically defines political activity, and hence it is necessary for any successful ruler to know how power is to be used.  Only by means of the proper application of power, Machiavelli believes, can individuals be brought to obey and will the ruler be able to maintain the state in safety and security.”  (http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/machiavelli/

What implications did Machiavelli’s idea of the end justifying the means have for both Renaissance politicians and what implications for politicians today?

*Keep in mind that Machiavelli’s ultimate goal for any “prince” was to keep the state safe and secure.

Remember your paper must be a minimum of 800 double-spaced words of text, with in-text citations or footnotes.  You also need a cover page and a reference page.  Check the syllabus for specifics regarding the formatting of papers.

CPA-K, Bachelor of Commerce- Birmingham University

Date:  December 4, 2020

Subject: Financial Support.

I have been studying in Birmingham for the last four years. I plan to use the knowledge and skills learned in raising the standards of living of the people living within the university area. I have decided to start a fast-food business at the university grounds and I seek your financial aid. The information provided below will highlight some of the analysis I have carried out and my basis for starting a business.

Market Trends

The university hosts several students who greatly depend on fast foods as they move from one class to another. Moreover, there is a great demand from the staff members of the university as well as the localities for the students. This is because there is no fast-food business along with the university campus, which is a market gap. This means that the business has a vast market scope for its products. Students also prefer sweet delicacies that are affordable and therefore the cash cow for this business will be Chips and soda.

Requirements

This means that I will require some inventories like cooker systems, chopping machines, peeling machines, point of sale system, display unit, packaging tools, fridge among others. I will also need to rent two buildings which be near the university area. One of the buildings will be the warehouse where I store the potatoes and the other building will be the shop. I will also require to get trade permits for conducting my business. this means that the business will have a lot of costs as it starts.

Opportunities and staffing

The fast-food business will operate on weekdays. It will be opened at 10:00 a.m. and be closed by 9:00 p.m. I will also employ some of the students who will be working on shifts in the periods that they have no classes. Some students will form part of delivery as others will work to ensure that all orders have been sold. One of the advantages of this business is that it will help some of the students become active and even pay for some of their utilities independently. It will also allow me to become an entrepreneur as I look forward to expanding the business and selling other products.

Challenges expected

The business will only operate during the academic months. This means that the business will be closed during the long holidays as there will be little sales. Part of my strategy is to maximize the profits during the high season and ensure optimization of resources during the period. Moreover, students prefer affordable products. This means that the prices will be lower. As part of my strategy, I will maximize in making more sales. The more sales I make, the higher the margin. This means that the costs and profits per unit will be very low.

Your support and guidelines will be of much help.

Assignment: The Meyer-Allen Instrument

As an organizational consultant for Walden Sports, it is your responsibility to decide on appropriate instruments to measure various organizational constructs. In this week’s Discussion, you used your observations to identify constructs of organizational commitment. Now, you want to learn how to build competencies. You need to objectively measure the organizational commitment construct to determine the actual levels of commitment inside the organization. One of the most popular instruments to measure organizational commitment was developed by Meyer and Allen (1991). They hold that organizational commitment is a multidimensional construct comprised of three components: affective, normative, and continuance commitment.

Your role in this Assignment is to critically analyze the Meyer-Allen instrument and its purpose. As you start to work on this task, think about why you would use this measure and consider the reliability and validity evidence that exists for the instrument. Without good data, it can be difficult to make good recommendations to your client. Understanding the use and purpose of an instrument can increase the credibility of the findings.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Familiarize yourself with aspects the Meyer-Allen three-component instrument. Consider the instrument’s applicability for assessing organizational commitment.
  • Review the article “Examination of the Relationships Between Servant Leadership, Organizational Commitment, and Voice and Antisocial Behaviors.” Reflect on an expanded view of the Meyer-Allen instrument that includes servant leadership and other leadership styles that can influence employee commitment.
  • Review the article “Affective Commitment as a Core Essence of Organizational Commitment: An Integrative Literature Review.” Think about how much affective commitment can predict and influence organizational consequences.
  • Review the article “Assessing Cross-National Invariance of the Three-Component Model of Organizational Commitment: A Cross-Country Study of University Faculty.” Consider how the article extends the Meyer-Allen three-component measure.

By Day 7

Submit a 3 page paper (not including references and title page) evaluating and critically analyzing the Meyer-Allen instrument in terms of the following:

  • Explain why the Meyer-Allen instrument is appropriate for measuring organizational commitment. Outline aspects that highlight its value as a measure of commitment.
  • Describe the scale anchors used to score the instrument.
  • Describe the psychometric properties (reliability and validity) of the instrument.
  • Provide an example item from the Meyer-Allen instrument that could be included in a diagnostic survey of your design and explain why.
  • Lastly, after your critical analysis, state whether you would or would not use the three-component model to assess organizational commitment and why.

Support your Assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. You are to provide a reference list for all resources, including those in the Learning Resources for this course.

HISTOEY Milestone

Beginning in the 1770s, an “Age of Revolution “ swept through the Atlantic World. These were inspired in different ways by the political and philosophical ideas of the Enlightenment. The goal of every revolution is change, but not every revolution succeeds in creating change that is lasting, or that makes life better for everyone in society. In this milestone, you’ll research a revolution and draw some conclusions about that revolution’s ultimate outcome.

Delivery:
5-7 paragraph essay and APA style reference list.

Instructions:

  1. First, choose one revolution to study:
    • French Revolution
    • Haitian Revolution
    • American Revolution

List of suggested sources for ALL three revolutions

  1. Then, in a 5-7 paragraph essay, answer the following questions using detail and evidence. Be sure to cite all of your evidence using APA in-text citations and an APA format reference list at the end:
    • Provide some background on the revolution you chose (1-2 paragraphs):
      • When did it begin and how?
      • What circumstances or key events led to the outbreak of revolution?
    • In what ways did the political ideas and philosophies of the Enlightenment contribute to the outbreak of revolution? (1 paragraph)
    • What were some key events or turning points in this revolution? Be sure to identify at least three key moments, providing factual detail and an explanation for why each moment was significant. (1-2 paragraphs)
    • Finally, consider, how did this revolution impact various groups of people in different ways — was this revolution “revolutionary” from everyone’s perspective? (1-2 paragraphs)To answer this, you must consider :
      • What were the CAUSES of the Revolution?
      • Who were the LEADERS?
      • What were some of the key EVENTS of the Revolution?
      • What were some of the competing IDEAS or BELIEFS that led to the conflict?
      • Were there key DOCUMENTS or PAMPHLETS that fed the revolution?
      • What were the results, consequences?
      • Put yourselves in the shoes of those who lived through this revolution – did the revolution bring positive change for everyone, or did some people lose, some people win, and some people come out the same as before?
