Module 2 Case Assignment

INPATIENT, OUTPATIENT, AND ANCILLARY SERVICES

Assignment Overview

At some point in your professional career, you may work within or alongside inpatient and outpatient settings. Working in these settings can be similar to working in two completely different “health care worlds.” What exactly are the differences between outpatient and inpatient medicine? Fundamentally, inpatient means checking into the hospital or care facility, while outpatient defines health care that can be administered without staying at the hospital. However, what has been prescribed above is the most basic terms of outpatient and inpatient services.

Case Assignment

Use the online library, required reading, and other resources to research and develop a more complete appreciation of the inpatient and outpatient settings. References should be no more than 5 years old. Websites should only be from reliable sources (only acceptable when accessing government sites).

Based on your findings, write a graduate-level comparative analysis of inpatient and outpatient services that clearly addresses the following:

  • Identify and describe inpatient settings and outpatient settings. Provide and explain at least two examples for each setting (e.g., Ambulatory Surgery Center vs. Rehabilitation Center).
  • Classify the typical services provided and key personnel between inpatient settings and outpatient settings.
  • Identify, describe, and evaluate a trend that is currently impacting inpatient and outpatient settings. These can be trends related to technology, supply and demand, political climate, regulatory, demographic changes, or patient care.
  • Analyze the trends, and thinking as a health care administrator, how do you capitalize on these trends to improve operation and bottom line performance? How can you mitigate the negative impact of the trends?

Length: 3-4 pages, not including the title or reference page(s).

M2 Assignment 1 Discussion

Assignment 1: Forensic Hypnosis and Cognitive Interviewing

Interviewers must remain vigilant against deceptive behavior throughout the interview process and be aware of what drives witnesses and suspects to be forthcoming with accurate statements—the goal of all interviews and interrogations. Interviewees establish patterns of communications, and certain aspects of their behaviors indicate deceit and deception. The study of behavioral interviewing techniques helps investigators rely on the accurate flow of information and develop the ability to identify behaviors that are indicative of deceit. Indicators come in different forms, from subconscious behavior responses to verbal patterns to physical patterns.

There are several areas investigators should familiarize themselves with in order to explain the behaviors of interviewees when placed under pressure or asked direct and challenging questions. For example, an investigator should have knowledge of kinesics, neurolinguistic programming (NLP), facial coding, body language, eye movement, qualifiers, hedging, and manipulators. Vocal inflections, a sudden emotional outburst with a denial, or an uncontrollable twitch or increased heart rate can be subtle but may indicate deception.

There are many reasons someone may want to deceive the police. Uncovering these motivations may help you understand the perspectives from which each person is operating. In some situations, witnesses just cannot recall events, either because the events are traumatic or because the witnesses have forgotten important details. Forensic hypnosis and cognitive interviewing are two methods used to jog a person’s memory in such cases. These skills can be learned and developed. True skill development in this area takes place while executing interviews or observing others during interviews or interrogations.

Submission Details:

By the due date assigned, in a minimum of 250 words, post to the Discussion Area your responses to the following:

SDLC

Reflect on the following in a minimum of 500 words each. Complete your reflections by responding to all prompts.

Analyzing the Quality User Story

As a project manager, you are most likely aware that depending on the type of project and the SDLC applied, system requirements may be developed differently. For example, many current projects use the Agile SDLC and build requirements based on user story format. A user story is essentially a use case that describes how a specific user would interact with a system. An example of a user story tied to a customer using an ATM might be, “As a customer of the bank, I need to be able to access my account from an ATM to understand balances across all of my accounts.”

Reflect on the following:

  • What are the attributes that comprise a quality user      story, and why are these attributes necessary? Consider the result of      poorly written user stories.
  • Provide an example of what you would consider to be a      quality user story. This example can be from experience, from a company      you know of, or one that you create.

Driving User Adoption of New and Changed System

As a senior systems analyst or project manager, you are most likely aware that implementing a new system, or modifying an existing one, can create organizational change. This change can impact how employees work, how information technology teams support the business, and even how customers interact with the organization. Ensuring users adopt new systems or changes to existing systems is critical, as implementing a system no one will use becomes a wasted investment. User adoption should be considered by the business stakeholders no later than during the design phase.

Reflect on the above and identify two to four steps or activities a project team can take that will influence user adoption.

  • Explain how these steps or activities will influence      user adoption.

Requirements Testing

As a project manager or senior systems developer, you are most likely aware that when developing new systems, teams tend to focus on understanding the requirements of the system at the start of the project. Until requirements are known, it is hard to understand design and development components. Beyond this, testing is an essential part of any systems project, no matter what SDLC is applied.

Reflect on the following:

  • When do you think a project team should plan for      testing? Why?
  • Who do you think is the best resource(s) to conduct      testing activities? Why?

Technology Trends

As an IT leader, you are aware that technology advances rapidly in the current market and can become dated and obsolete quickly. Organizations must keep pace with the evolution of technology to compete and sustain a market advantage.

Reflect on the following:

  • What are some emerging technology trends that have      influenced your personal choice of an SDLC, either in your experience or      in something you have read?
  • Discuss the trend and the influence and effect it had      on you. Were there any issues?
  • Would you recommend the same SDLC if you had to do it      again?

Assignment 3: Benefits of Cost Accounting

Assignment 3: Benefits of Cost Accounting

  • Differentiate between financial and cost accounting as well as its opportunities and applications.
  • Discuss and explain how cost management information is developed and used within the organizations information value chain.
  • Explain how cost management fits into a corporate strategy given the global competitive environment? What role does the Internet play in the information gathered by cost management?

Assignment: Contemporary Policies and Practices

The United States criminal justice system is governed by various sets of policies and practices developed from federal statues, regulations, and case law. Interpretation of these policies and practices is ultimately adjudicated by the Supreme Court of the United States, and that court’s decisions affect many practical, on-the-job components of everyday criminal justice professionals. For example, whether and how officers may legally stop, search, and seize evidence. As such, it is essential for a criminal justice professional to understand two things: first, how Supreme Court decisions impact a criminal justice professional’s everyday job in significant ways; and, second, how leadership and administrators in criminal justice take action within their organizations to enforce the court’s decisions.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Learning Resources on criminal justice policies.
  • Review the articles and media on the Supreme Court decisions related to policing and corrections.
  • Explore contemporary Supreme Court cases related to policing and corrections.

For this Assignment, select one of the two topics:

  • Policing
  • Corrections

Use the Supreme Court of the United States Blog, located in the Learning Resources, to find a contemporary case related to policing or corrections.

The Assignment:

Using the APA Walden Writing Center Template, in 4‒5 pages, your report should include:

  • Provide a brief summary of the case.
  • Provide an argument about whether you believe the ruling is correct or what it should be, if the case is still active.
    • Ensure that your argument is supported by at least three credible resources.
    • Provide references to case laws and facts to support your argument.
  • Explain how you think the Supreme Court’s decision, or potential decision, may impact agencies (police or corrections) moving forward.
  • Recommend at least 2–3 specific actions or steps that could be implemented by leadership to avoid future violations.

An electronics company that produced circuit boards for personal computers was formed in a small southern town. The three founders had previously worked together for another electronics company and decided to start this new company. They ended up as senior officers and members of the board of directors in the newly formed company. One became the chairman and CEO, the second became the company’s president and COO, and the third became the controller and treasurer.

Two of the three founders together owned approximately 10.7 percent of the company’s common stock. The board of directors had a total of seven members, and they met about four times a year, receiving an annual retainer of $4,500 plus a fee of $800 for each meeting attended. Their new company was well received by the townspeople, who were excited about attracting the new start-up company. The city showed its enthusiasm by providing the new company with an empty building, and the local bank provided a very attractive credit arrangement for the company.

In return, the company appointed the bank’s president to serve as a member of its board of directors. Two years later, the company began committing financial statement fraud, which went on for about three years. The three founders were the fraud perpetrators. Their fraud involved overstating inventory, understating the cost of goods sold, overstating the gross margin, and overstating net income.

Identify the fraud exposures present in this case.
