Documenting Observations

Observing work and analyzing what you see into data can be difficult. For this exercise, you will observe via online video. This provides the opportunity to rewind and view segments several times in order to capture the information that you need.

  1. Search the internet for “Dirty Jobs”. This is a television show. The host, Mike, experiences the end-to-end process of several kinds of dirty jobs during each show, but does not necessarily do them in order from beginning to end.
  2. Identify a show with two segments to review.
  3. For each of the two segments in that show, identify the items below. To do this you may wish to use a spreadsheet or set up a table so that your data makes sense.
    • The jobs (roles/tasks)
    • The flow of work from one role/task to the next (create a process flow)
    • The input and outputs of each role/task
    • The characteristic differences between a novice (Mike) doing this work and an expert doing the work
    • The impact of mistakes on the job
    • The reasons that people do this “dirty work” every day – what motivates them?
    • Barriers to accomplishing the task.
  4. Then analyze Mike’s interview techniques.
    • How did he gain acceptance with his experts? What did he do or say to help get them on his side?
    • Identify a set of stock questions that he uses repeatedly with small variations?
    • How does his technique differ from the techniques recommended in your text?

Submit your analysis here including observation of work and observation of Mike’s interview techniques. Summary not required but be sure that your data is organized and understandable

Your paper must be a minimum of 3 pages, reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Please include citations to support your ideas.

Deliverable 2 – NoJax Employee Personality Analysis

Competency

This competency will allow you to evaluate employee makeup and utilize that understanding to create relationships within the organization.

Instructions

NoJax is finally ready for you to start in-depth evaluations of organizational behavior at the micro level. Start by viewing the NoJax Company Background document and cross referencing the employee profiles with the organizational structure provided. This will give you an idea of what managers are working together. Pay particular attention to the given personality trait scores, education, and experience for each manager. From there, start to form an opinion about how these managers will be working together, both positively and negatively. The section on policy will also provide some context on working conditions and employee interaction. Senior management would like you to write a report providing analysis of your observations.

Address the following in your report:

  • Taking into consideration industry, job, and organizational fit, explain which Big Five personality trait you believe is the most important for NoJax management to seek out during an interview process. Support your choice with observations from the case document.
  • Taking into consideration industry, job, and organizational fit, explain which Big Five personality trait you believe is the least important for NoJax management to seek out during an interview process. Support your choice with observations from the case document.
  • Provide an in-depth analysis of a minimum of four of the management pairs working together utilizing personality scores and employee background information. For example, you might choose Design Manager Alice Bloom and Lifting Shoes Manager Anam Basra. For each pair, identify potential strengths of them working together and two potential weaknesses of them working together. This does require some hypothesizing based on employee personality traits scores and background information. Considering job tasks and job design helps here too.

Introduction: In your reading, Seminar, Discussion Board, and learning activities, you looked at the customer service plan and all that is involved in creating the plan. You discussed and practiced with a preliminary SWOT analysis to determine what issues must be addressed to keep the company on track and competitive in the environment in which it exists. You will now analyze an existing preliminary customer service plan outline for a toy company.

Make sure you have reviewed the reading and the customer service plan in the learning activities before you start the assignment. To access the database journal article for your required citation (see checklist items below), please access the Purdue University Global Library located in the Academic Tools area of the course room.

Instructions:

Read the existing customer service plan provided in the PlaySMART Toys template document on the resources tab.

Checklist:

  • First, read through and analyze the company’s existing mission, vision, and values statements as seen above.
  • Then revise the SMART goals and describe these goal improvements for this preliminary customer service plan.
  • Using a graphic of your choice (see the instructions in the PlaySMART document above), show the process and briefly describe each of the process steps the customer service department will use to achieve the SMART goals (Use toolbelt tabs 1, 3, and 5).
  • Analyze and complete the target customer section of the plan specifying also how you will obtain the data you need to learn more about the customer.
  • Complete the value proposition (CSR tool 6) and customer interface (including website) sections.
  • Customer interface: Consult the website checklist and the customer service experience life cycle (Tab 5 of CSR toolbelt), but do not copy.
  • Personnel: Describe the personnel needed.
  • Use a minimum of one Purdue University Global Library database journal article to support your plan and provide a short APA citation and accompanying reference on a separate reference page.

Making the Practicum Connection

Executive format programs have an applied learning component (internship/practicum) that is an integral (essential) part of the established curriculum. These programs require the student take part in an internship (that is offered by the sponsoring employer through a cooperative agreement with the school), job shadow experience, or job reflection experience.

The INTR course serves as one way to help students reflect and connect their coursework to their practical work experience. This course is one of several integrated components that connect the practical experience to the curriculum. In this course, students can choose to participate in an alternative work-study, internship, cooperative education, or Curricular Practical Training (CPT) in an area directly related to the student’s course of study.

Due to the embedded practical experience component in the curriculum, students must identify their work-study, internship, cooperative education experience by the start of the term.

Touchstone: Analyzing Your Personal Finances

Touchstones are projects that illustrate your comprehension of the course material, help you refine skills, and demonstrate application of knowledge. You can work on a Touchstone anytime, but you can’t submit it until you have completed the unit’s Challenges. Once you’ve submitted a Touchstone, it will be graded and counted toward your final course score.

One way to check your progress towards your financial goals is to conduct a personal financial analysis. This will help you see how well you have stayed on track with your finances over time. Using technology can help you stay organized and help you visualize financial data, uncover trends, and effectively communicate your findings.

Your goal for this Touchstone is to build your confidence with technology. Using Microsoft Excel, you will organize three monthly budgets, visualize the data using graphs, and discuss the results. You’ll begin with the budget you created in Excel in the Unit 2 Touchstone. There are many types of technologies available for personal or professional use that can analyze and display personal financial data. Your experience with Excel spreadsheets in this course is a skill you can apply to other technology tools in your life and career. If you need a refresher on spreadsheets, review the tutorials in Unit 1, Challenge 3 of this course.

Touchstone: Analyzing Your Personal Finances

SCENARIO: Three months have passed since you created your first financial plan (i.e., the Unit 2 Touchstone). In that time, your budget has gone through some changes. The good news is that your income has increased because of your strong performance at work. However, health care and miscellaneous costs have gone up along with your earnings. You will need to reallocate your monthly budget based on these changes to see how you’re progressing toward your original savings goal.

While you appreciate numbers and figures, you also know that a strong financial analysis needs visual information. As part of your progress check, you’ve committed to creating a set of graphs that you can share with your financial advisor.

ASSIGNMENT: This assignment has two parts. In part 1, you will analyze personal finance data based on the scenario described above. You’ll use your problem solving and agility skills to balance three monthly budgets, and you’ll use your technology skill to graph the spending allocations in each of them. Finally, you’ll sharpen all three skills as you calculate and graph the progress you’re making toward your original savings goal.

In part 2, you will answer reflection questions about the decisions you made, identify how to create more savings opportunities, and make predictions about life and economic impacts that could affect the future of your plan.

For this assignment, you will:

  • Create three monthly budgets and perform a personal financial analysis using Microsoft Excel.
  • Summarize changes in expenditures between budgets.
  • Show the results of the analysis using appropriate graphs in Excel.
  • Explain how the graph types you have selected will help your financial advisor understand the data.
  • Discuss the results of the financial analysis including savings achievements, future budget modifications, and life impacts that could derail the budget in the coming year.
  • Reflect on what the analysis might reasonably look like in one year, accounting for economic factors such as inflation and the consumer price index.

Download the Excel template below, which further breaks down the steps involved in this assignment. You will return the completed template as your Touchstone submission.

Option #1: Steps in the Organizational Staffing Process

In the organizational staffing process, there are four primary steps that should be addressed.

1. Workforce Planning – HR and management work together to analyze the current workforce and then devise steps/plans to meet the organization’s anticipated needs.

2. Job Analysis and Documentation – A thorough analysis of the job(s) is completed to determine the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs). Then, this information is documented and categorized according to job types and job descriptions.

3. Sourcing and Recruiting – Multiple channels are used to identify and recruit talent.

4. Selection and Assessment – Various selection and assessment methods (such as interviewing and assessment tests) are used to narrow down the applicant pool and eventually make the hire.

As a Talent Acquisition Director, you have been asked to devise a staffing plan that will allow the organization to expand into a new global territory.

· Develop a report that you will share with the executive team about the staffing process.

· List each step of the staffing process in detail and discuss recruitment plans for one division of the organization (e.g., marketing, sales, finance).

· Additionally, in your report, discuss implications you may run into while expanding into a new global territory.

PSY 331 Psychology of Learning Week 2-A

Week 2 – Assignment

Knowledge Acquisition and Memory Development

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, please read all the  required readings and the Instructor Guidance, as well as view all  required multimedia. It is suggested that you also review the  recommended resources for this week as a number of them may assist you  in creating this written assignment with links to applicable articles.

Too often, when we learn about memory development, we forget that  this has a direct relationship to effectively learning. Knowledge is  essentially a memory and how well we process information affects our  performance at many levels. For this paper, you will be explaining some  of the cognitive-based ideologies that explain how memory development  works, how it is affected by outside variables, and strategies for  improving one’s own information processing effectively. You will  demonstrate an understanding of psychological research methods and  skeptical inquiry by correctly utilizing support resources within your  writing.

Discuss the following in your paper:

  • What is memory development and how does it relate to acquiring new knowledge?
  • Why is it important to successfully move information from working  (short-term) memory to long-term memory (effective information  processing)?
  • What strategies can be utilized to move knowledge from working  memory to long-term memory more effectively? (List a minimum of three  strategies.)
  • How much does attention and perception play a role in successful development of schema?
  • How do the types of memories (knowledge) affect how we effectively process information?
    • Consider the following:
      • Semantic memories
      • Episodic memories
      • Autobiographical memories
  • How does false memory development affect how we learn effectively? Is anyone immune?

Final draft of literary analysis

Your literary analysis will essentially be a compare/contrast essay where you will explore both the similarities and differences between your analysis of Susan Glaspell’s “A Jury of Her Peers” and the main claim made by Simso in her essay. Your essay MUST include at least one paraphrase and one direct quotation from both the short story and Simso’s essay. Your essay must be between 650-750 words long.

Helpful Advice:

Conflicting Views

 My name is E. Anthony

This discussion assesses your ability to evaluate issues that may contribute to conflict between parents of children with disabilities and school personnel. This assignment also supports your achievement of Course Learning Outcome 2 and the MASE Program Learning Outcomes 3, 4, and 6

In one study conducted to determine the causes of conflict between the parents of children with disabilities and school personnel, found that 90% of parents felt that “either the school did not view their child as an individual with unique talents and abilities, or it saw their child through a deficit-model perspective, focusing only on the child’s weaknesses” (Lake & Billingsley, 2000, p.244). On the other hand, school personal claimed that the parents were uncompromising to alternative solutions and suggestions. Other sources of conflict between parents and their child’s school, which resulted from this study, included miscommunication, mistrust, limited resource availability and feeling devaluation (Lake & Billingsley, 2009). At any point during the school year, parents may have concerns regarding their child’s academic or social development, IEP progress or other school related problems. Their first point of contact may be you, as the special educator, or the school’s administration for the purpose of setting a meeting date discuss an agreeable solution.

As we have learned through our reading and coursework thus far, a school district is not required to design the “best program,” or to provide “the best education possible,” but to provide an appropriate program or service. Moreover, school districts are given some latitude in deciding on the use of appropriate methodologies and strategies, and in what combination, to meet a student’s unique needs and provide an appropriate program.

During Destini’s IEP team meeting, her parents bring up their concern regarding their daughter’s progress and request that she receive more intense support in the area of reading. In addition, Destini’s parents demand that the district immediately provide a specialized and costly supplemental remedial reading program provided by an agency not employed by the district to support her reading deficits.

Because her parents contacted you after seeing Destini’s report card, you anticipated this topic being brought up during the meeting. Her parents explain that although she is passing the class with a “C”, they feel that she could be earning an “A” if only the district would provide these expensive services which are above and beyond her current level of supports to help her with reading comprehension.

Initial Post: After reading the article Factors that contribute to parent school conflict in special education, you will create an initial response depending on the first letter of your last name.

  • If your last name begins with the letters A – M: You will respond to Destini’s parents request by addressing her parents’ concerns by supporting their request for a specialized and costly supplemental remedial reading program provided by an agency not employed by the district to support her reading deficits. Use supporting evidence from your textbook, assignment readings and your own research to leverage support for your argument. Finally, offer at least two alternative solutions that may be an acceptable option to supporting Destini’s continual reading comprehension. Be sure to consider the categories identified in the article, Factors that contribute to parent school conflict in special education that may escalate the conflict.
