HPI: Patient presents to clinic accompanied by father Raphael Regis with complaints of sore throat for 5 days. His father states Remy has experienced poor appetite where eating makes pain worse however drinking liquids is not as painful. Pain 5/10. Father reports Remy takes longer naps during day, reports a headache, abdominal pain, feeling tired, not playful, and fever today 100.1. Remy has not complained of chills, vomiting, or diarrhea. Last week Remy’s daycare report 3 children sent home with sore throat and later was informed positive for Strep throat. 

Children 5-13 is often common age range for streptococcal pharyngitis. However, strep can occur at any age. Common symptoms associated with pharyngitis (i.e., sore throat) are: nausea, headache, abdominal pain, fever, cough, rhinorrhea. However, one way to differentiate strep throat from other common upper respiratory infections is usually rhinorrhea and cough do not occur in strep throat (Polisky, Nichols, & Uzelac, 2005)

 BIO-2010 Microbiology Mixed Unknown Activity / Experiment Directions: The mixed unknown exercise has been modified for the online experience. You will be receiving PowerPoint images for “Day 1” of your unknown. These images include the Gram stains for both organisms, and isolated colonies on MacConkey’s (Gram-) and Columbia CNA (Gram+) agars. We have created individual Discussion Board threads in your Blackboard site in which you will be able to find your PowerPoint images. The ultimate goal of this experiment is to determine the identity of the two bacterial species that you have been given, and writing them in proper binomial nomenclature. Please find the Mixed Unknown Worksheet below. On the day that the assignment window begins, you will be given your images. Discussion: Treatment for a Patient with a Common Condition

  

Insomnia is one of the most common medical conditions you will encounter as a PNP. Insomnia is a common symptom of many mental illnesses, including anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, and ADHD (Abbott, 2016). Various studies have demonstrated the bidirectional relationship between insomnia and mental illness. In fact, about 50% of adults with insomnia have a mental health problem, while up to 90% of adults with depression experience sleep problems (Abbott, 2016). Due to the interconnected psychopathology, it is important that you, as the PNP, understand the importance of the effects some psychopharmacologic treatments may have on a patient’s mental health illness and their sleep patterns. Therefore, it is important that you understand and reflect on the evidence-based research in developing treatment plans to recommend proper sleep practices to your patients as well as recommend appropriate psychopharmacologic treatments for optimal health and well-being.
