  1. As an educator, you will discover that students’ reading abilities vary widely. A running record is a great tool for you to use to help you determine students’ reading levels. This assignment will give you the opportunity to exhibit your reading assessment skills.

    Complete Parts 1–3 below.

    Part 1 – Informal Observation
Observe a first-, second-, and third-grade student engaged in reading a self-selected text. As you observe, determine the students’ reading levels and which student you will conduct a formal observation and running record with.

Part 2 – Formal Observation and Running Record
Select one of the students you observed to conduct a formal observation and running record using a 100- to 200-word, leveled reading passage.

Choose an appropriate grade or reading level passage for the student you selected. You may choose from the following passages and running record scoring sheets from Raz-Plus, or you may use another passage with instructor approval.

    • Early Emergent reader or K-grade level
    • It Is a Birthday Party (passage)

Use the Running Record Instructions and Scoring Sheet as a guide while you conduct the running record.

      Part 3 – Reflection
Prepare a 350- to 700-word paper comparing your informal observation experience with your formal observation and running record experience. Your paper should include answers to the following questions:

    • Did your observation of the student engaged in reading a self-selected text align with the running record results? Why or why not? Explain.
    • Based on the picture walk or title of the passage, what did the reader predict about the story? How accurate were the reader’s predictions?
    • What was the student’s error rate, accuracy rate, and self-correction rate? What do those results mean?
    • Based on the types of errors or self-corrections made (M, S, V), what did you learn about the reader?
    • Based on the reader’s retelling and comprehension responses, how well did the reader understand what he or she was reading?
    • What do you conclude about the reader’s reading level, word attack skills, and reading behaviors from the running record? Be specific.

Open Forum

Prepare: Take a few minutes to think about this course and the material covered in the course so far.

Reflect: Reflect on what you found interesting, surprising, or confusing in this past week. What did you learn that caused you to understand an issue differently? What habits, tips, or resources did you discover that helped you to complete your course work more effectively or efficiently? Cite clear examples and details to support your post.

 Write:

This discussion forum is an opportunity for you to explore topics that interest you, share critical insights and questions that you are working with, share your struggles and triumphs, and discuss difficulties that may have arisen this week, hopefully finding solutions. Your posts should describe your experiences in the course this past week, prompting further discussion. You should address at least one of the following questions:

  • What struck you in particular as you explored the course materials this week?
  • How might you apply this information to your life in the future?
  • What insights have you had?
  • What have you been struggling with?
  • What questions have come up for you at this point?
  • What helpful tips have you picked up in this course or in a past course?
  • What questions do you about the assignment that your classmates might be able to help with? (If you have a question for the instructor, be sure to contact your instructor through email or Canvas messaging.).

You are required to post at least 100 total words in this forum this week. You can post one time or ten times; the only requirements are you post at least 100 words total and you engage in conversation related to course. Ask questions, answer questions, provide extra resources you found that are interesting, or engage in a debate about something you learned this week.

Provide a full explanation of the issues you discuss in your posts. For example, if you write that you had difficulty finding sources for your annotated bibliography, explain where in the process you had difficulty. Was it thinking of search terms? Did your search locate too many sources that were not relevant to your topic? Did your search return too few results? Did you have difficulty finding credible sources?

Students who post early in the week, using this forum to engage their classmates on a regular basis, tend to do well and learn more from the course.

The nursing preceptor rotates throughout various clinical units

Abstract

The nursing preceptor rotates throughout various clinical units within healthcare facilities to meet nurse staffing needs to improve quality patient care. Preceptors encounter numerous challenges to understand their roles and support to support newly hired nurses in the transition process. Taking the novice nursing preceptors through effective education programs may reduce gaps between preceptees knowledge and skills and unit/department expectations (Joswiak, 2018). This project aimed to develop an educational program for nursing preceptors in a hospital setting to promote newly hired nurses ensuring high-quality patient care. Benner’s From Novice to Expert Theory was utilized as the theoretical frameworks for this project. Five content experts voluntarily participated in the review of the educational PowerPoint for content validity.

Chapter I

Lippincott Solutions (2017) defined nursing preceptor as an assistant, clinical resource, experienced nurse who boost and evaluate nursing skills for newly hired nurses to work independently and confidently.( Consider changing the first sentence to one that doesn’t start immediately with a reference ) The preceptor is responsible supporting newly hired nurses. This creates challenges such as patient safety, professional attitude, workload, policies, and support. (How does this create challenges? ) These challenges can result in increased turnovers for both preceptors and new nurses (Why is the turnover a concern? A sentence describing the why here is relevant, then go into the statistics of it )) (Valizadeh, Borimnejad, Rahmani, Gholizadeh, & Shahbazi, 2016). This is can be costly: one study estimates an up to $58,400 cost for turnover per nurse (What does this mean for the institution? For patient safety? ) (Kennedy, 2019). A developed preceptor program can help manage these challenges and decrease the turnovers rate by understanding the preceptor’s roles and learning skills to increase the confidence, which is essential to train newly hired nurses (Kennedy, 2019). (Does the preceptor program understand the role, or do you mean the nurses understand their role because of the program? )

Business Law 1 discussion question

One of the most fundamental issues in business law involves the question of when a company can be held liable for the acts of an individual person, whether this involves a contractual obligation or a personal injury (meaning a tort). Choose one of the scenarios below and explain whether you think the business is liable for the acts under the principles of agency law.

  • A real estate agent hires a handful of local kids to do the landscaping of homes that he is trying to sell. In addition to the general payment, he reimburses them for the cost of gasoline for lawn mowers and other equipment.  While mowing a lawn, one of the kids loses control of a lawn mower and it mows down a neighbor’s very expensive collection of lawn gnomes.
  • In a hurry to get his apartment complex painted, a homeowner hires three people he meets at the local home improvement store to do the work. Since they are not professional painters, he provides all the equipment and paint needed to do the work. While at the apartment complex, one of them breaks into an apartment, assaulting the resident and stealing a wallet.
  • An entrepreneur decides to open up his own car-for-hire business and creates an app allowing anyone to connect with people who need a ride. The passengers pay the entrepreneur, who in turn pays a percentage to the driver.  Other than the app, the entrepreneur has no involvement between the driver and the passenger. One night, a driver who is intoxicated picks up a passenger and then gets into an accident, resulting in the passenger being severely injured.

week 2 project 5/24

Assessing and Planning Care for an Elderly Person

In order to gain an insight into the world of elder adults, it is important to understand how they view themselves and the values they hold. Additionally it is important to assess and determine his/her needs and establish appropriate interventions for this individual.

In a Microsoft Word document of 4-5 pages formatted in APA style, you will discuss your interview of an older adult. This person cannot be a patient in your clinical setting. You can use a friend, family member, or co-worker. The older adult must be age 65 years or older.
There are two parts to this assignment – the psychosocial interview component and the functional assessment.

Interview

Download the patient questionnaire. Use this format to record the person’s responses.

  • Include 2–3 questions of your own to get a complete picture of the older adult.
  • Summarize your findings.
  • Include the questionnaire with responses in the Appendix of your paper.

Assessment

After gaining permission, conduct a physical and mental functional assessment of the older adult you have chosen. Review your readings for the process of a functional assessment.

  • Use the tools discussed this week to complete a comprehensive assessment of your patient. Search the Internet for resources on these tools.
    • Tinetti Balance and Gait Evaluation
    • Katz Index of Activities of Daily Living
    • Assessment of Home Safety
    • The Barthel Index
    • Do not include a name on each tool, but do include professional or other designation, and age. Your name should also be identified on the tool.
      • Include these tools in the Appendix.
  • Based on your assessment:
    • Compare and contrast the age-related changes of the older person you interviewed and assessed with those identified in this week’s reading assignment.
    • Identify at least 4–6 preliminary issues.
    • Identify three alterations in health that you would propose and describe them.
    • Identify a minimum of three comprehensive interventions for each alteration.
    • Integrate cultural considerations in your interventions.
