Module one assignment

QSO 320 Module One Assignment Guidelines and Rubric

Prompt: For this assignment, you will set up a spreadsheet to track labor costs for the given scenario below. This assignment will give you practice in setting up a basic spreadsheet with calculations and then linking that data to another tab (worksheet). You will also build upon the output from this assignment in future modules as you learn more concepts about spreadsheet functionality.

First, create an Excel spreadsheet and name the document “Labor Hours.” Label the first tab of the document Data. Then, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Data tab, create a table with the following information:
    1. a)  Employees’ names
    2. b)  Each employee’s hourly rate
    3. c)  The number of hours per day for five days for each employee
  2. Use basic formulas to calculate the following:
    1. a)  The total amount of hours each employee worked for five days
    2. b)  The labor cost for each employee
    3. c)  The total labor cost for the project
  3. Within the same document (workbook), set up a separate tab labeled Data Link. In this tab, set up a blank table and populate the table by linking the cells to the data from the table you created in the Data tab.
Note: For this part of the assignment it may be tempting to simply copy and paste the table and formulas from the Data tab. However, it is important that you learn to link data from one tab to another. In the real world, you could have a spreadsheet with multiple tables on multiple tabs all pulling from the same dataset. If you copy data instead of linking it, you will have to update every table. However, if you link the data, all of the tables will automatically update if any of the data changes.
Hint: On your separate worksheet, if you click on any cell that is importing data, you will see the name of the original worksheet (the name on the tab), followed by an exclamation point, before the cells are listed. For example: sheet1!A2.

Scenario

You are examining labor costs for a construction project using eight employees:

  •   The eight employees’ names are: Smith, Rodriquez, Daniel, Eli, Lee, Kim, Buster, and Green.
  •   Each employee worked eight hours a day for five days.
  •   The employees’ wages per hour are as follows:
    o Smith:$8.95
    o Rodriguez:$11
  • Daniel:$14
    o Eli:$16
    o Lee:$19
    o Kim:$20
    o Buster:$25
    o Green:$40

Weak Resume

The resume is weak, there is too much white space. We need more words and success on it

•  The notes you included you should definitely put on there if they  actually line up with your expertise, however try not to be “fluffy”  which means you are just writing words to write them

  • So  instead of putting strong analytical, financial and problem solving  skills you would put stuff you actually have done that is analytical or  problem solving. Here’s an example “Executed strong analytical skills by creating Excel files to find errors in large data.”

•  Remove related coursework, instead you would want to write about a  project you did that was important or relevant to the job(s) you are  applying to

• The spacing is off on a lot of the page

  • Use the template I attached for you to understand how the spacing and format should look

• Make sure to have dates on education and on each work experience / volunteer / or leadership activity

  • Label your expected graduation date – or when you graduated

• If your GPA is above a 3.2 put it on your resume

• Use the summary to also explain what type of jobs you are applying for or what your biggest strength is

CMIT 421 Project 2

Instructions

This week, you will submit the second project, VM Scanner Background Report, based on the Nessus Report. As you are writing your report, you may want to refer back to the CEO’s video in Week 1 to make sure your analysis and recommendations align with the CEO’s priorities and concerns.

You should link your analysis to the kinds of organizational functions and data associated with a transportation company (e.g., protecting order data, customer lists, sales leads, Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance for processing credit, proprietary software, etc.) and provide your recommendation if Mercury USA should purchase the Nessus tool. This report should be four to six pages in length and include a title/cover page. Include in-text citations and a reference page with three quality sources in a citation style of your choice.

How Will My Work Be Evaluated?

For this assignment, you are asked to provide your supervisor, Judy, with a technical evaluation of a vulnerability scanner. By documenting your results in an effective background report, you are showing how you use your technical knowledge to convey your ideas to others in a professional setting. Your ability to express your findings using the right mix of technical detail in a business context is an important workplace skill.

The following evaluation criteria aligned to the competencies will be used to grade your assignment:

  • 1.3.1: Identify potential sources of information that can be used to develop and support ideas.
  • 1.4.1: Produce grammatically correct material in standard academic English that supports the communication.
  • 10.1.1: Identify the problem to be solved.
  • 12.2.1: Identify systems for the risk assessment.
  • 12.3.1: Select controls.
  • 13.2.1: Evaluate vendor recommendations in the context of organization requirements.

If you haven’t already downloaded it last week, download the VM Scanner Background Report Template now and follow the instructions in the document.

Delete the instructional text from the template before you submit.

Anti-Bullying

STEP 1: Research an elementary school, either one that you attended growing up or one in your area. Visit websites such as greatschools.org, National Center for Education Statistics, or others to gather information about the demographics at the school. You may also find details on your chosen’s schools website. Compile pertinent information regarding equity, racial and ethnic diversity, gender diversity, socioeconomic status, graduation rates, grades, poverty, disability, etc. to get a comprehensive understanding about the population at your selected school.

STEP 2: Conduct research on bullying. Read about current national or regional anti-bullying campaigns such as Stomp Out Bullying to get ideas. Find at least one outside resource to integrate into your infographic.

STEP 3: Create an anti-bullying advertisement or infographic for the elementary school that you researched. Pick out some of the details about the school’s demographics, the information from the text, AND your chosen anti-bullying website to integrate into your work (NOTE: You do not have to summarize all of your research. Your objective is to create an interesting visual so that an outside observer could quickly learn at least three new things by looking at it.) The infographic must include at least 2 images (pictures, charts, and graphs all count as images) and some text.

You should put effort into this assignment, but you should not feel overwhelmed by creating a visual. You can think of it as making a simplified “poster” and there are several tools available to help you create this assignment. You may design the poster in any medium you desire, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, or one of the following programs:

  • Canva is really easy to use and convenient because it has tons of free shapes and designs for you to use. This program does not specialize in infographics, however, so you probably just want to choose the option to create a “poster” or “presentation.”
  • Infogram is a fabulous tool if you want to include a chart or graph in your infographic.
  • Easel.ly has some great pre-designed Infographic options to work with.

STEP 4: Submit your completed poster. Along with your submission, include a short write-up (1-2 paragraphs), explaining your selected school and your chosen approach to the end-bullying campaign.

Five Paragraph Essay Format

Introduction:

Introductory Paragraph

See, first, Writing Introductory Paragraphs for different ways of getting your reader involved in your essay. The introductory paragraph should also include the thesis statement, a kind of mini-outline for the paper: it tells the reader what the essay is about. The last sentence of this paragraph must also contain a transitional “hook” which moves the reader to the first paragraph of the body of the paper.

Body:

Body — First paragraph:

The first paragraph of the body should contain the strongest argument, most significant example, cleverest illustration, or an obvious beginning point. The first sentence of this paragraph should include the “reverse hook” which ties in with the transitional hook at the end of the introductory paragraph. The topic for this paragraph should be in the first or second sentence. This topic should relate to the thesis statement in the introductory paragraph. The last sentence in this paragraph should include a transitional hook to tie into the second paragraph of the body.

Body — Second paragraph:

The second paragraph of the body should contain the second strongest argument, second most significant example, second cleverest illustration, or an obvious follow up the first paragraph in the body. The first sentence of this paragraph should include the reverse hook which ties in with the transitional hook at the end of the first paragraph of the body. The topic for this paragraph should be in the first or second sentence. This topic should relate to the thesis statement in the introductory paragraph. The last sentence in this paragraph should include a transitional hook to tie into the third paragraph of the body.

Body — Third paragraph:

The third paragraph of the body should contain the weakest argument, weakest example, weakest illustration, or an obvious follow up to the second paragraph in the body. The first sentence of this paragraph should include the reverse hook which ties in with the transitional hook at the end of the second paragraph. The topic for this paragraph should be in the first or second sentence. This topic should relate to the thesis statement in the introductory paragraph. The last sentence in this paragraph should include a transitional concluding hook that signals the reader that this is the final major point being made in this paper. This hook also leads into the last, or concluding, paragraph.

Conclusion:

Concluding paragraph.

#This paragraph should include the following:

  1. an allusion to the pattern used in the introductory paragraph,
  2. a restatement of the thesis statement, using some of the original language or language that “echoes” the original language. (The restatement, however, must not be a duplicate thesis statement.)
  3. a summary of the three main points from the body of the paper.

Part 2: Critical Analysis Essay

In this essay, you will write a critical analysis of a novel, novella, or long short story that you have read for class.  This analysis must apply a critical approach and make use of at least three to five scholarly articles, selected from your annotated bibliography.

For this assignment, you will write a critical analysis of approximately 1,500 words in length.

Some things to remember about the literary analysis essay:

· Use the terminology–demonstrate your knowledge of your chosen approach by using terms commonly associated with the critical lens you’re applying. Some examples might include canon, constructed, double-voice, exclusion, gender, Marxist, materialist, patriarchy, sex, and sexist.

· Refer to specific passages and highlight the details– in a critical approach, you should focus on the details in the novel that touch directly or indirectly on the central idea or theme of your thesis. Select specific passages that illustrate or exemplify your argument, and spend some time discussing how this passage supports your overall reading of the text.

· Have a Clearly Defined Thesis Statement– Your thesis statement should convey the gist of your argument and clearly outline which critical lens you’re applying to the text.

· Use Secondary Sources to Support– the scholarly articles you choose to use for this essay should support your clearly defined and original argument or should be used as springboards for disagreement. Be sure to embed secondary sources into your argument by summarizing, paraphrasing, or directly quoting the source.  Remember to always cite your sources parenthetically and on the works cited page.

· Link Each Point Back to the Thesis–link each point to the thesis statement; it is also important that you make links between paragraphs and main ideas in the body of your essay. Use transitional expressions such as: similarly, furthermore, additionally, clearly, obviously, etc

Business Plan/Proposal

I need a business plan/proposal for a start-up organization.  It is a non-profit, faith-based organization. The cost of service is sliding scale based or none at at all, insurance is not necessary but helpful. , We will accept ALL clients with or without money.  Long term goal is to have a housing facility.

I need a full business plan.  A lean start up plan is perfect.  I can add as I need to but a traditional plan is great as well, (I can use them both).  This is for an actual organization I am trying to get started.

We will counsel all.  Life coach is the niche.  I need this by Wednesday, I have a meeting with an investor on Friday but I need to go over with a fine tooth comb what you send me.

This is URGENT and extremely important.  PLEASE, do not accept a bid if you cannot perform the task.

It must be a PowerPoint presentation with notes.  I do n ot need the title page but I do need the TOC and the body.

I am sending you a copy of a business plan that I have and I need you to make the necessary adjustments.  I need you to use your professional imagination and provide me with what I need for this BP/P as if it were your  start up company.  I will provide you with my number if you have any questions.

I do not have the time to go back and forth and trying to get my money back because you failed to provide what is needed, at the same time I have no problem with paying or tipping for a job well done.  This is about my livelihood, and the direction and support of so many people that need help but cannot get it because either they do not have the money but the counselor has no idea what this person is going through, so they cannot receive what that counselor is saying because it is only book knowledge.  What separates Lift Him U, is that the counselor that will be working with the client will actually have experienced and rose up and can now counsel the client with the stronghold the client is now going through.

PLEASE if you have any questions or need any more insight, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.  This is of the utmost importance and I will go through each slide with a magnifying glass and go over it over and over again.  It must be perfect, no mistakes allowed.  This is an ACTUAL presentation.

Unit 4 Discussion

Unit 4 Discussion: Inventory Costing and Valuing Methods

No unread replies.No replies.

The following activity supports ELOs 1.3, 6.1 and 6.2.

Why is it necessary for companies to manage their inventory?

Businesses that can manage and account for their inventory have accurate data to make informed decisions. For example, inventory management lets you know when it’s time to replenish stock, how much product is on-hand for sales, whether theft has occurred, etc. Additionally, you must accurately report inventory so that financial statements reflect the most current and accurate numbers. These tasks are critical for a business to be successful.

Companies can use either a periodic or perpetual inventory system. You will find that most companies use a perpetual system because it updates inventory in real time. Think about a retail store. As the product moves through the company or warehouse, it is being tracked by the accounting system under a perpetual inventory. When the item is purchased at the point of sale, the system will update the inventory. Small business owners that typically deal with small amounts of inventory use a periodic system. Most seasonal businesses also use a periodic system.

There are four different inventory costing methods used to help businesses value inventory and assign the cost of goods available for sale.

  • First-in, First-out (FIFO) (most commonly used)
  • Last-in, First-out (LIFO)
  • Weighted Average Cost
  • Specific Identification Cost

Requirements

Choose one of the following types of inventory before responding to the discussion questions below.

  • Food (perishable food items such as dairy or produce)
  • Medical supplies
  • Mobile phones or electronic devices
  • Wine (super premium aged wine or supermarket brand wines)
  • Petroleum oil or coal
  • Automobiles
  • Bridal dresses

Please respond to the following prompts in your initial post:

  • Identify one of the (inventory) items from the list above.
  • Do you think businesses that deal with these items use a Perpetual or Periodic Inventory System? Explain your answer.
  • Suggest one of the four types of cost flow assumptions for this type of inventory. Explain why you think this is the best match for the inventory items you have chosen.
  • What accounts are affected? Identify at least two accounts and explain your answer.
  • Imagine you are a business owner and you want to sell this type of inventory overseas. Would you use the same cost flow assumption? Why or why not?

TVM Assignment

Acme Manufacturing, Inc. was originally a family owned operation that has been in business for several generations. It has grown steadily and is now listed on the stock exchange with family members still owning a substantial portion of the shares. Over the years, the company has acquired a reputation for exceptional quality and has won awards from major customers. The firm is 55% equity financed; shares currently trade at $37.00 and do not pay a dividend. Debt capital is provided by a single issue of bonds (20 year, $1,000 par value, $82.50 annual coupon) currently trading at $1,175. The firm’s beta is 1.25. Their traditional hurdle rate has been 12%, though the rate has not been reviewed in many years. Over the years, shareholders have come to expect a 10% return. Their corporate tax rate is 25%. Treasury securities are yielding 5.25%. The market rate of return on equities is 9.25%. The Machine Tool Division is considering the purchase of a piece of highly-automated, robotic production equipment. It would replace older machines and would offer improvements in quality, and some additional capacity for expansion. Because of the magnitude of the proposed expenditure, a careful estimate of the projects costs and benefits is needed. They are currently using several old-style machines that together had cost $700,000. Depreciation of $220,000 has already been charged against this total cost; depreciation charges are $80,000 annually. Management believes these machines will need to be replaced after six more years. They have a current market value of $250,000. The old machines require 12 workers per shift earning $13.50/hr plus 3 maintenance workers paid $14.50/hr. The plant operates day and afternoon shifts five days each week; maintenance workers are assigned to the afternoon shift only. Maintenance expenses have been running at $5,000 annually; the cost of electricity has been $26,600 per year. The production process is not only labor intensive, but also physically demanding. Workplace injuries are not uncommon and lately medical claims have increased. The new machine will have a total cost that includes shipping, installation and testing of $1.5 million. The plant will also need $350,000 in modifications to accommodate the new machine. These costs will be capitalized and depreciated over the six-year estimated life of the machine. The new machine would require only two skilled operators (one per shift) who would earn $20/hr. Maintenance will be outsourced and cost $90,000 per year. The annual cost of electricity is estimated to be $50,000. Certain aspects of the decision are difficult to quantify. Management’s relationship with the union hasn’t always been a smooth one and union leadership may not agree to the layoff of the redundant workers. Reassigning them to positions in other divisions might be easier but there are currently only a handful of suitable openings, some of which are not in the collective bargaining unit. The specs on the new machine indicate that even higher levels of product quality and lower scrap rates are possible. In light of ever-increasing competition, this might prove to be of enormous competitive advantage. The new machine has a maximum capacity 27% higher than the old semi-automated machines which are currently operating at 90% capacity.

Assignment Parts: a. Calculate the firm’s Weighted Average Cost of Capital. b. Identify and analyze the relevant cash flows for the two alternatives – buying the new machine vs. continuing to use the old ones. c. List and describe briefly any areas of uncertainty or concern for this project – beyond the obvious ones described in the narrative. What effect might they have? Bullet points are just fine. d. Based on your results in parts b & c, explain why you would or would not proceed with the new machine.
