Analyzing an Email Archive for an Electronic Discovery Investigation

Scenario

D&B is conducting a very large electronic discovery (eDiscovery) investigation for a major client. This case is so large that dozens of investigators and analysts are working on specific portions of the evidence in parallel to save time and improve efficiency.

Since this is the first time you will be working on this type of investigation for D&B, your manager gives you a “test” (a sample email archive) so she can assess whether you need additional training before you begin working with the rest of the team on the eDiscovery case. Your manager tells you that this archive was extracted from a hard drive image marked “suspect,” but at present nothing more is known about the user. She expects you to examine the archive and document all findings that might be of interest to a forensic investigator. She explains that she will use your report to evaluate your investigation skills, logic and reasoning abilities, and reporting methods.

Tasks

• Review the information about email forensics and Paraben P2 Commander E-mail Examiner (EMX) in the chapter titled “Email Forensics” in the course textbook.

• Using P2 Commander E-mail Examiner, create a case file, select Add Evidence, and import the email archive (filename: Outlook.pst). P2 Commander will automatically begin sorting and indexing if you choose that option.

• Search for information about the user; your goal is to learn as much as possible about who the user is and what he or she has been doing. You may find evidence in the inbox or other mailboxes. You can use E-mail Examiner features to help you keep track of the evidence you identify, for instance, by bookmarking sections of interest and exporting attachments.

• Write a report in which you:

o Document your investigation methods.

o Document your findings. Explain what you found that may be of interest to a forensic investigator, and provide your rationale for including each selection.

routine activities 300 WORDS

Mary Lou Jones had the following routine activities as an individual:

Leaving for work the same time, each day, from the same location.

Choosing the same method of transportation for all outings.

Leaving a specific light on in the home each evening.

Entering and exiting the home from the same door each time.

Picking up the mail and newspaper the same time each day.

She recently became victim to a theft that took place at her place. She recently came to know that in the local middle school in her area there has been a sudden rise in victimization due to thefts and bullying. She plans to put her experience to use and assist the assigned security director at the middle school in identifying the patterns of victimization committed at the school.

Based on the above, answer the following questions

Can an individual’s choice of lifestyle be capable of putting him or her at risk for victimization?

Which of the above-mentioned Mary Lou Jones’s activities is the most and the least plausible that can contribute to a crime? Why?

What changes should Mary Lou Jones make to her routine activities to ensure not becoming a potential victim?

Which of the theories of victimization is the best—routine activities theory, lifestyle theory, or rational theory? Why?

The principal of the school and the security director believe that inclusion of students in the analysis team is beneficial for identification because they are directly affected by the policy? Can inclusion really exercise such an effect? Why?

What are the patterns of victimization in the recent thefts and bullying committed at the school?

Are diverse team structures feasible for determining victim measurements and assessments? How?

Management Project

You have been named the manager of a task force charged with conducting a critical but challenging change within your workplace. This change is likely to be met with some opposition. You will manage the task force and accomplish this change in just three months. So, you have a very short timeline in which to motivate your organization’s workforce to cooperate with your team and embrace the change it is implementing.

Use a current or past workplace as your hypothetical organization. Choose from one of the following changes to accomplish in the three-month timeframe:

  • Move your office location to a smaller workspace.
  • Reconfigure your workspace (cubicles) to a design with reduced privacy.
  • Merge two sales force offices into one location, which requires a 10% reduction of your team.
  • Due to reduced sales, reduce your organization’s work week (and employee pay) by one full work day.
  • A proposed change of your choosing. You must obtain your instructor’s approval before completing your plan.

Refer to Chapter 5 of Managing Motivation on how to plan a motivation improvement project. Using the four steps, create a comprehensive plan to motivate your workforce to cooperate, and even support, this difficult change. Be sure to include:

  • A description your hypothetical organization and the change associated with that organization.
  • A description of how you will plan the proposed change.
  • An investigation of the strength of each connection and possible causes of weak connections.
  • Identify appropriate solutions with thorough explanations to help generate employee buy-in and support.
  • Explain the results measurement process, including an employee feedback component.

Policy and Environmental Issues

1.4 Participate in health care policy development to influence nursing practice and health care.

Research public health issues on the “Climate Change” or “Topics and Issues” pages of the American Public Health Association (APHA) website. Investigate a public health issue related to an environmental issue within the U.S. health care delivery system and examine its effect on a specific population.

Write a 750-1,000-word policy brief that summarizes the issue, explains the effect on the population, and proposes a solution to the issue.

Follow this outline when writing the policy brief:

  1. Describe the policy health issue. Include the following information: (a) what population is affected, (b) at what level does it occur (local, state, or national), and (c) evidence about the issues supported by resources.
  2. Create a problem statement.
  3. Provide suggestions for addressing the health issue caused by the current policy. Describe what steps are required to initiate policy change. Include necessary stakeholders (government officials, administrator) and budget or funding considerations, if applicable.
  4. Discuss the impact on the health care delivery system.

Include three peer-reviewed sources and two other sources to support the policy brief.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Refer to the LopesWrite Technical Support articles for assistance.

Journal Article: Organizational Ecosystem

Journal Article: Organizational Ecosystem

DEFINITION: a brief definition of the key term – (the definition should come from the article)

SUMMARY: Summarize the article in your own words- this should be in the 150word range. Be sure to note the article’s author, note their credentials and why we should put any weight behind his/her opinions, research, or findings regarding the key term.

DISCUSSION: Using 300 words, write a brief discussion, in your own words of how the article relates to the selected key term. A discussion is not rehashing what was already stated in the article, but the opportunity for you to add value by sharing your experiences, thoughts, and opinions. This is the most important part of the assignment.

REFERENCE: The source for the analysis must be listed at the bottom of the submission – APA format required. Use only peer-reviewed journal articles for these assignments. Refrain from using blogs, .com’s, or other unreliable internet sources. Be sure to use the headers (Definition, Summary, Discussion, Reference) in your submission to ensure that all aspects of the assignment are completed as required. Any form of plagiarism, including cutting and pasting, will result in zero points for the entire assignment. Further, any flagged documents will result in zero points for the assignment. Flagged documents mean that an attempt at plagiarism exists, or manipulation of the Turnitin process has been attempted. This is unacceptable conduct and will not be tolerated.

Analyze how the U.S. conducts governmental policies.

Federal Budget Speech

“Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.”

– Thomas Jefferson

The federal budget spends close to four trillion dollars a year and is split between mandatory spending (what the federal government has to spend due to congressional legislation) and discretionary spending (what the federal government spends as a result of congressional allotment). Roughly speaking, mandatory spending accounts for two-thirds of the federal budget and discretionary spending accounts for one-third of the federal budget.

Every year the executive and legislative branches debate budgetary priorities for the federal bureaucracies such as the Department of Defense, the Pentagon, the Environmental Protection Agency, Veteran Affairs, the Department of Education, and others. Many of these debates occur within congressional committee meetings as members of Congress, federal employees, outside interests, and individual citizens articulate funding requests.

For this assessment you will compose a speech advocating why your chosen department, administration, or agency within the federal bureaucracy should receive additional funding.

Because the “world is a stage,” let us establish the setting, plot, and the ensuing action for your speech.

Setting:

Exterior: Washington D.C. State Capitol Building.

Interior: Room 221B. Congressional Hearing Room.

Plot:

Imagine that you are in a cavernous room. You sit before a large table facing twenty one senators from the Budget Committee. Photographers, more than you can imagine, squeeze between the space that separates you from the members of Congress. Behind you in the gallery, public policy wonks and regular citizens sit, awaiting your presentation.

You are a featured speaker from a citizen group that advocates a particular public policy funding concern for your federal department, administration, or agency. Prior to the meeting you have already read the president’s proposed federal budget for the upcoming year from the Office of Management and Budget and you have some budgetary concerns. You read in alarm how the upcoming federal budget request from the White House reduces funding for your federal department, administration, or agency. But, as you know, it is up to Congress to fund the executive bureaucracy. The executive branch requests funding and the legislative branch allocates funding. This is your chance to request more funding for your federal department, administration, or agency of choice.

Action:

Equally eager and nervous you stand in front of a lectern. “Now,” you think, “now I am ready…” You click on the microphone, examine your prepared speech about your funding request, and you begin to speak with eloquence and passion!

Directions: Compose a 400 word transcript of your public policy speech.

  • Select a specific example of public policy from one of the following fields:
    • Economic policy – for example, U.S. budget deficit spending.
    • Education policy – for example, the establishment of national education standards.
    • Environmental policy – for example, the Clean Air Act.
    • Foreign policy – for example, the interplay between civil liberties and the Patriot Act.
    • Healthcare policy – for example, the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).
    • Welfare policy – for example, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
  • Select a department, administration, or agency within the Federal Bureaucracy that addresses your public policy concern.
  • Write a brief, persuasive speech advocating for increased funding for the federal department, administration, or agency due to its active involvement with your public policy issue.
    • A persuasive speech is a type of speech when the speaker seeks to convince an audience based on a spoken argument. Persuasive speeches are composed of three components: an appeal to logic, an appeal to emotion, and an appeal to credibility.
      • An appeal to logic is when you persuade an audience with reason. (Learning, n.d.)
        • Example: “Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” – Abraham Lincoln
      • An appeal to emotion is when you elicit an emotional response from the audience. (Learning, n.d.)
        • Example: “Yesterday, December 7th, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt
      • An appeal to credibility is when the speaker’s status or authority on the subject persuades the audience. (Learning, n.d.)
        • Example: “Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy, I knew Jack Kennedy, Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you are no Jack Kennedy.” – Lloyd Bentsen
    • The National Constitution Center compiled the ten greatest speeches in U.S. history. From Patrick Henry’s Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death speech to Ronald Reagan’s Tear Down This Wall speech, great oration significantly affects public policy (NCC, 2017). Included on this list is Martin Luther King, Jr’s I have a Dream Speech. Newsweek, an American news magazine, has the video of the speech and The New York Times has an excellent analysis of the speech.
  • Within the speech please include the following:
    • State the public policy concern.
      • Include either a logical, emotional, and/or credibility appeal.
    • Explain the current finances of your federal department, administration, or agency.
    • Describe how the federal department, administration, or agency can positively affect the public policy concern with increased funding.
  • Support your analysis with information from the text and at least two additional academic source.

Your assignment should also meet the following requirements:

  • APA format.
    • Title page.
    • Reference page.
    • APA citations.
    • Double spaced sentences.
    • 12-point Times New Roman font.
  • Standard English grammar conventions.
    • Correct grammar.
    • Correct punctuation and spelling.
    • Logical, well ordered sentences.

Nurses advocate for their patients on all levels of patient care.  It is often overlooked the role that nurses take in influencing policy making, but this is one way that a nurse can advocate for patients.  Registered nurses (RN) and advance practice registered nurses (APRN) have several ways to influence policy making and create an improvement in patient care.  One way is to join a professional nurse organization group.  These groups often have a common theme in nursing and goals of the professional nurse role.  The organization may have an issue that they want to bring to the capitol and a member can aid in this goal (Burke, 2016).

Another way that nurses can get involved in the legislative process is to write their state representatives about healthcare issues that they have personally seen in the field (American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing, 2020).  This is a way anyone can get involved; however, a nurse becomes more skilled in their area of interest their state representatives may appreciate their input of expertise.

To explain these strategies to other RNs and APRNs on how to get involved in policy making this writer would first start at their place of work.  Every month this writer’s workplace has a town hall meeting to discuss happenings in the hospital and in the mental health field.  This would be a great platform for the writer to explain these strategies to others on how to get involved with policy making.  Another way to explain these strategies to other nurses would be to join other professional nursing organizations and demonstrate how the nurses can get involved in these strategies.  Nurses often do not take advantage of their professional role in policy making (Arabi et al., 2014).  Explaining that this may be another way to advocate for their patients may make these nurses realize the role they can have in policy making.

Assignment Details

Have you ever purchased a product or service and thought, “Wow! Other people need to buy this…” or “Everyone needs to avoid this.” This is the beginning of an argument. Nearly every day, we encounter and use arguments to inform and persuade others. A great argument is more than just an opinion, though. To be persuasive, an argument needs to use claims and credible evidence to prove its point.

Write a brief (no more than 2 pages) review of a product or service you recently purchased or used. Include at least 2 credible outside sources in your review to support your claims. Format your product review using the CTU APA Template and remember to cite your sources using both in-text citations and a References page for your two sources (the last page). Your product review should include the following parts:

  • An introduction paragraph that tells your reader what the product is, why you are interested in it (or why you chose that product to review), and your argument and overall recommendations about the product.
  • At least 2 separate body paragraphs that present claims and evidence to support your argument.
    • In your body paragraphs, be sure to include appropriate in-text citations to indicate where you are bringing in information from your outside sources.
  • A conclusion paragraph that includes your recommendation on whether your reader should buy the product.
  • A References page that correctly lists each of the outside sources you used, formatted appropriately using the CTU APA Guide.

Submit your completed assignment under the Unit 4 Individual Project – Product Review by uploading an MS Word document with the questions and your answers or by typing your answers to the questions directly in the assignment Submission area. To help with your assignment submission, you may use the optional Unit 4 Individual Project Template.
