PICOT

The first step of the evidence-based practice process is to evaluate a nursing practice environment to identify a

nursing problem in the clinical area. When a nursing problem is discovered, the nurse researcher develops a

clinical guiding question to address that nursing practice problem.

For this assignment, you will create a clinical guiding question know as a PICOT question. The PICOT question must

be relevant to a nursing practice problem. To support your PICOT question, identify six supporting peer-reviewed

research articles, as indicated below. The PICOT question and six peer-reviewed research articles you choose will

be utilized for subsequent assignments.

Use the "Literature Evaluation Table" to complete this assignment.

1. Select a nursing practice problem of interest to use as the focus of your research. Start with the

patient population and identify a clinical problem or issue that arises from the patient population. In

200–250 words, provide a summary of the clinical issue.

2. Following the PICOT format, write a PICOT question in your selected nursing practice problem area of

interest. The PICOT question should be applicable to your proposed capstone project (the project

students must complete during their final course in the RN-BSN program of study).

3. The PICOT question will provide a framework for your capstone project.

4. Conduct a literature search to locate six research articles focused on your selected nursing practice

problem of interest. This literature search should include three quantitative and three qualitative

peer-reviewed research articles to support your nursing practice problem.

Note: To assist in your search, remove the words qualitative and quantitative and include words that narrow or

broaden your main topic. For example: Search for diabetes and pediatric and dialysis. To determine what research

design was used in the articles the search produced, review the abstract and the methods section of the article.

The author will provide a description of data collection using qualitative or quantitative methods. Systematic

Reviews, Literature Reviews, and Metanalysis articles are good resources and provide a strong level of evidence

but are not considered primary research articles.  Therefore, they should not be included in this assignment.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and

documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA

Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with

the expectations for successful completion.

You are not required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite.

Responses

respond to two of your classmate’s posts (Because you are asked to write two responses this week, each should be at least 150 words.  Point out where your own research process is similar to theirs. Or,  where they differ. Offer advice—either from your own experience, or from  our textbook—solving any of the research problems they have described.

Student 1 response: “Ever  since I got to college my research process has definitely changed. In  high school, I would just look up the topic and use the first Wikipedia  article that popped up and integrated that into my research writing.  Once I got to college and learned that that is not the best way to  handle my research, now I use more reliable databases such as the OSU  Library peer review articles to pick out information on my source. I  then integrate the reliable information I found from this website and  use it for my research writing. That seems to work the best for me. I  have found that picking out too many sources for my research has made it  difficult to create a concreate argument and has made it hard to delve  into the topic in depth as I focus too much on too many different  arguments. Picking one or two good sources of research helps me really  articulate and analyze rhetorical elements of a piece well.

Before reading the chapters 18 and 19 about finding evidence, I was  surprised to know that when finding evidence for your rhetorical  situation it is best to use a source that is within the same time and  place in which you make your argument. It all seems so simple, but I  have seen many authors go back in time and use old sources different  from the time and place which the argument was made. On page 413  Lunsford writes “For example, arguing that government officials in the  twenty first century should use the same politics to deal with economic  troubles that were employed in the middle of the twentieth might not be  convincing on its own” (Lunsford 413) I have already come to the  conclusion that finding library resources is a very good source of  information when gathering information because that is usually a part of  my research process. The part that I might want to leave out is drawing  in on my personal experience. on page 424 Lunsford writes, “Personal  experience can serve as powerful evidence when it’s appropriate to the  subject” (Lunsford 424). I find that I might shy away from personal  experience and use more sources to remain high in validity. “

Student 2 response: “When it comes to how I do my research I usually y start with google and  will just type in my topic. From there I us the first page and read  three to four different websites that are there. I have found that even  though the data can be changed, Wikipedia does have valuable information  if you look through who posted it and how credible that source is. I  will most of the time then talk to my parents and brother about the  topic I am doing research on because they have much more experience and  also have a totally different perspective on things then I do. After  reading chapter 18 and 19 I think there was so much valuable information  that so often gets over looked. For example, the idea of going to the  library and asking the librarian for help. I know I never do this  because I always think I can find it but the amount of knowledge they  have on the topics is crazy. They can point you in a direction you never  expected. I also think the idea about conducting your own research such  as inte4rviews or surveys is huge. I can go read all I want about these  “studies” done but when I go out and do it myself I am able to see how  effective and more meaningful it is. In the past when I have done this I  see a whole new side of things and usually will see why people think  the way they do. On page 420 Lunsford says “…trained observers say that  recording an observation accurately requires intense concentration and  mental agility.” I think that this point so clearly explains why just  reading from a book and reading the online observation is bad. By having  to think for yourself it helps you become an expert on the topic. You  are putting yourself in a spot to get so many different perspectives  that I think are very important.”

Job Description JD/ Specification Analysis/ Canadian Human Resource Management course

Individual Project: Job Analysis Exercise – 13% – Due in Week 3
Job Description JD/ Specification Analysis:
http://noc.esdc.gc.ca/English/noc/Profile.aspx?val=0&val1=1121&ver=16

You are required to select HR Professionals job requirements (Skill level A – Category 1121) from Canadian Government NOC (National Occupation Classification) list. Follow the link provided, enter the NOC Code 1121 for HR Professionals to see federal JD/JS outlined for HR Professionals in general. For your analysis you can pick any Job title from the list of HR Professionals – outlined in the federal NOC list. Now lookup for the similar role/ position/title’s Job Description, as advertised by any BC (British Columbia) based company and analyse the differences in the job description. For a sound analysis Choose a BC based company with detailed JD/JS. Most of the big corporate companies/Public universities will have a detailed Job requirements. Do not select a small company specially if JD is not clear enough.

Your task is to analyze the Job Description (JD) and Job Specification (JS)- provided for HR Professionals – in the light of theory/concepts/Canadian Laws learned in this course as well as class discussions.
A. You are supposed to write down the similarities & differences in JD & JS in Table format – Here’s the sample table format.

FED – JD/JS
BC – JD/JS
• Similarities
•
• Differences or Add-ons
•

• You can analyze job’s main role and sub tasks here
• Provide the screen shots of both – NOC – Job requirements and BC based Company’s JD in the appendix. This will help you solve the similarity issue

B. Based on your analysis in part A. Create a provincial Job Description along with Job Specification for HR professionals of BC (This should be general job description just like NOC and not for any specific position)

• Your Job description/specification should be in bullet points (Look at at-least 7-8 good JD samples for HR jobs posted within BC and then recreate yours by following the same pattern). You should not copy paste tasks/subtasks/requirements from these jobs just use them for idea generation and then incorporate your knowledge of HR profession to create yours.

• Avoid unnecessary length but make sure you are covering all the important points. All the real JDs are not more than 1.5 pages in length so keep it realistic.

Assessment Criteria
• ANALYSIS – You will be marked on thoroughness of your analysis and how well informed your analysis is. How creative your JD is. How well do you know both federal and provincial laws. How many important elements of employability are you covering in your JD.

• PAPER REQUIREMENTS – Whether students have fully understood the paper requirements. If all requirements are satisfactorily met/fulfilled. Whether or not all questions have been answered.

• QUALITY AND VARIETY OF SOURCES – For this information to be robust you have to use at least 12 references – Google, Wikipedia will not be considered as authentic sources you will be marked down for using them. You can use company websites, Governmental & provincial websites of Canada, Labour laws both federal and provincial, updated textbooks, journal and industry papers etc.,

• FORMATTING – You must include title page, list of references and appendices for this Exercise. APA style of formatting for font style, line spacing etc., must be used. NO Abstract or Introduction needed start directly with part A – table.
• Provide all your sources of information that you have used to gather the numbers/figures along with hyperlinks that instructor can access in the list of references. NUMBER the references in your list.

Develop Issue Statements

Instructions

The Adult Drug Court program offers cognitive-based, outpatient counseling and drug monitoring of offenders who are diagnosed with a moderate to severe substance use disorder.  The offenders must be convicted of drug offenses or offenses motivated by their drug use.  Participant compliance in the program is monitored regularly by the drug court team.  The team consists of the judge, public defender, probation officer, and counselors.  Participants are randomly drug tested on a frequent basis and they must participate in substance use disorder treatment, as determined by their licensed counselor.  Because this population often has varied treatment needs, they are often referred to additional services such as residential treatment, Medically-Assisted Treatment (MAT), cognitive intervention classes, and individual counseling sessions.

Over the past 5 years, the drug court success rate has continued to drop. This year, the success rate is at 38 percent. The program is facing several challenges:

  1. High rate of probationers who never report to their assigned drug court probation officer.
  2. High rearrests rate while in treatment.
  3. Continuance of illegal drug use while in the program.
  4. Participants do not take full advantage of residential treatment in the community.

You are meeting with the senior court and officials to discuss the issues the court is facing. After the meeting, you are tasked with developing issue statements. An example of an issue statement is the following:

Issue Statements

(Consider issue/trend; how it’s moving; and the impact on customers.)

Over the past 5 years, the percent of probationers supervised has increased by 18 percent. Probationers’ increased risk and complex needs (e.g., mental illness, chemical dependency) combined with an ever-changing external environment (e.g., recreational marijuana bill; new criminal presiding judge) requires an evolving skillset staff’s need to affect long-term, prosocial behavior change; if not addressed, this will result in:

  • Increased recidivism;
  • Increased risk to staff safety;
  • Decrease in positive behavior change;
  • Diminished ability to decrease victimization; and
  • Decline in the ability to meet customer expectations to reduce crime.

Please develop issue statements focused on the problems that the drug court is facing.

Ethical Responsibilities In Software Design And Development

Louis V. Gerstner, Jr., former CEO and Chairman of the Board of IBM, stated, “Computers are magnificent tools for the realization of our dreams, but no machine can replace the human spark of spirit, compassion, love, and understanding” (Reynolds, 2019, p. 263).

A solid ethical framework is crucial for companies involved in the design and development of software and IT systems. At the very least, companies involved in these endeavors want to avoid poor sales and bad press from bugs or poor design. However, much more is at stake. Companies face potentially massive criminal and legal liability exposures if they make subpar or unethically designed products and services available to the public. Software bugs or poor design within computer systems can produce financially damaging occurrences and could lead to property destruction or even fatalities.

To complete this assignment, use the Internet or the Strayer library to locate an example of poor IT design or software errors that led to personal or corporate financial or property loss or to a fatal accident.

Write a 3–5 page paper that addresses the following items:

  1. Identify and describe the software design flaw, glitch, or error. Summarize the resulting impact of the failure.
  2. Determine if the failure was a result of poor quality or an ethical requirement deficiency. Provide recommendations that you feel would have prevented the failure.
  3. Explain who, in your opinion, should be held accountable for the incident and why.
  4. Identify the corrective actions that were put in place by the organization after the incident.
  5. Use at least three quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as quality resources. The Strayer University Library has many excellent resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

  • Examine the ethical responsibilities of IT users, professionals, and organizations.

Setting, Symbolism, & Figurative Language (RR2)

Discuss how the setting, symbols, and figurative language used in Volar and A Wall of Fire Rising contributed to how the characters were shaped by their environment and/or scenes from the stories. Please do not summarize the stories. Provide a literary analysis of the settings, symbols, and figurative language used in both stories.

Your postings will be reviewed according to the following criteria:

  • Writing well-developed paragraphs relevant to the prompt(s) (minimum 300 words).
  • Be sure that your thesis is explicit and supported with one to two quotations from the literature.
  • Do not write in first or second person.
  • Replying to two of your classmates with meaningful responses with a minimum of 30 words (do not simply write “I agree. I like what you’ve written.”)
  • Following the rules of Standard English. Please proofread your writing before clicking the ‘submit’ button!
  • When you include a quotation from the literature in your mini-essay, please place an in-text citation (also called a parenthetical citation) immediately after you close the quotation marks and before you place a period at the end of your sentence. That way, anyone in the class (including me!) can easily find the quotation in the literature if necessary. If you’re not sure what to place inside the parentheses, there is instruction in the textbook in Chapter 34- Quotation, Citation, and Documentation.
  • When you include in-text citations, there must be a Works Cited listing at the bottom of your post.
  • Be sure to follow the “Quote Sandwich” when you insert quotations.

Evaluating the effectiveness of situational crime prevention techniques

Evaluating the effectiveness of situational crime prevention techniques: A focus on burglar alarms.

criminology

Description

Evaluating the effectiveness of situational crime prevention techniques: A focus on burglar alarms.

Situational crime prevention emerged in the 1980s as an innovative approach to crime disruption, shifting the focus from the offender towards the circumstances that have made that crime possible. According to situational crime prevention (SCP), crime should be viewed as product of an interaction between motivation and situation (Clarke, 2017). Often, a motivated offender may not engage in a specific activity since specific situational factors may buffer his criminal drive. In this sense, situational prevention seeks to increase the risks and reduce the rewards associated with that specific type of crime, making the crime less palatable to the offender (Clarke, 1995). https://expertessayhelpers.com/7824/dont-be-fooled-by-bad-statistics/ In a nutshell, the core principle of SCP is to manipulate criminal opportunities through the use of deterring measures such as surveillance, target hardening and environmental management (Lee, 2010).

Over time, SCP has significantly increased thanks to its recognized effectiveness and is currently used for preventing and disrupting a wide range of criminal activities. Cornish and Clarke (2003) state that when trying to prevent crimes and specifically burglary, increasing the risks for the potential thief acts as a powerful deterrent, since the fear of being caught outweighs the motivation to break into a house. For this reason, burglar alarms have slowly grown to be one of the most effective measures of formal surveillance, suggesting that this type of measure effectively reduces the likelihood for a house of being burgled. (Cornish and Clarke, 2003). This has led burglar alarms to become one of the most popular security devices used in households (Lee, 2008; Tseloni et al, 2014). https://homeworkharbour.info/1-is-it-naive-for-business-leaders-to-try-to-be-honestplease-pay-particular-a

Following this idea, past literature and previous research have publicized articles to demonstrate the positive effect of burglar alarms in reducing burglary attempts.

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program has reported that burglars are most attracted to homes that do not have burglar alarms or other security systems (FBI, 2017). In fact, households with no security devices are 3 times more likely to be robbed, suggesting that security devices such as burglar alarms seem to have an influence in the decision-making process of a thief (FBI,2017; Police Uk, 2016). More specifically, Lee and Wilson (2013) looked solely at the impact of burglar alarms on residential burglary. The study was conducted by cross-examining data of residential burglar alarms permit records and of burglary incidents, using a spatial and geographical analysis software. It was found that dense concentrations of residential of alarm installations are isolated from hotspots of burglary incidents, thus suggesting that burglar alarms have a beneficial impact by deterring house thefts (Lee, 2008; Lee and Wilson, 2013). Recent qualitative research has also supported the beneficial effects of burglar alarms. By interviewing more than 20 prolific incarcerated burglars, Armitage (2017) found that surveillance security and ADT burglar alarms were seen by the offenders as the most effective strategies in preventing house break-ins.

However, some academic experts have argued that burglar alarms do not decrease burglary risk. Several empirical studies show that in fact, burglar alarms might even increase the likelihood of a house of being burgled. Tseloni et al (2014) found that burglar alarms and dummy alarms appear to increase the risk of attempted burglary, implying a counter-productive effect. This finding is explained by the fact that burglar alarms, alone, may give a sense of false protection, thus making households more ‘careless’ from a security point of view (Tseloni et al, 2014). Further studies have looked more into this counter-intuitive result in order to discover additional explanations. Tilley et al (2015) analysed and compared households with the same security devices but differed in the presence of burglar alarms. In doing so, the marginal effects of burglar alarms are calculated. They (2015) concluded that although there is not enough evidence to conclude that burglar alarms have a counter-productive effect, alarms are less effective than window locks or CCTV, since they do not create any physical obstacle nor increase the risks for a potential burglar of approaching the property.

Skudder et al (2017) observed that, in fact, burglar alarms have a low environmental performance compared to other security devices. This finding, previously supported by Tseloni et al (2014), shows that burglar alarms are the least desirable individual measure since they are not so effective in burglary prevention and offer less protection than no security at all. Also, it was found that the preventive effects of burglar alarms has changed over time. Unlike recent years, in the period from 1992 to 1996 burglar alarms used to prevent burglaries effectively (Skudder et al, 2017). Thus, it appears that research concerning the effectiveness of burglar alarms is far from being consistent and is permeated by contrasting evidence, as some studies demonstrate its effectiveness and others do not. https://homeworkbay.info/2021/06/09/question-of-the-week-5using-the-blog-post-5-stress-management-tips-for-college/

Moreover, there have been few scientifically rigorous studies which have inspected the effectiveness of situational crime prevention products such as burglar alarms (Jacobson, 2003; Lee, 2008; Tseloni et al, 2017; Skudder et al, 2018).

Yet, despite this lack of scientific thoroughness, burglar alarms have been steadily increasing, becoming one of the most used SCP measures against household break-ins. This leads to question whether the prevalent use of burglar alarms has been justified by empirical research or is a consequence of a society that relies too much on private security entities, that sometimes over-sell security products for mere profit (Garland, 2015).

By acknowledging the lack of scientific research in addition with vague and contrasting findings,.

contributing to the creation of a ‘securitization of society’. According to Garland (2015), society has shifted from monopolized system of crime control into becoming a hybrid system in which security is delivered jointly by different multiple actors and agencies.
