Weeks 7 and 8: Preparing a Personal e-Portfolio

Instructions

Putting it togetherPreparing a Personal e-Portfolio

This week you will create an e-portfolio that will showcase all of projects you have completed in this course along with other artifacts, photos, and resources you may want to include. E-portfolios are excellent tools for showcasing to potential employers your skills, educational and work experience, accomplishment and publications, talents, and professional credentials.

While there are many open source and subscription e-portfolio resources online, APUS provides an e-portfolio to all active students and faculty: Portfolium. You will take advantage of the APUS e-portfolio at this hyperlink (Portfolium) or in the Course Overview.

When you enter the Portfolium site, look for the short introductory video at the bottom of the welcome page. This video will introduce you to the Portfolium program and provide you with pointers regarding how to get started. If additional resources are required for the development of your e-portfolio, the internet has a wealth of YouTube videos, Web-based resources, and examples you can access for ideas. This is a project for you to showcase not only your skills, talents, and capabilities, but your academic history and creative skills. An important element of this project is the creativity that you pour into this e-portfolio.

This last week’s assignment, creating an e-portfolio, should be a lot of fun. However, there is no set way to “accessorize” your e-portfolio, it is left up to your creativity and how you want to “brand” yourself. However, the only mandated content for your e-portfolio are the seven projects you created during the the last six weeks. How and where you insert and introduce these projects is up to you. It is expected that you will “personalize” this e-portfolio with additional information, photos, artifacts showcasing your experience, certifications, qualifications, and personal interest content.

Make sure you have made the corrections your instructor has asked prior to inserting them in the e-portfolio. The majority of your grade will is based on the professional look of your e-portfolio, the creativity you have put into the content, the inclusion of important additional artifacts that showcase your skills and experiences, your use of photos, and narration you have inserted to “personalize” your interests, ambitions, personal goals, etc.

There is really no correct method for completing this project, however, here is one way that may get you started until your own creative juices kick in:

  • Before you get started with Portfolium, go back over each of the 7 projects you completed in weeks 1 through 6 and make sure you have included all of the changes your instructor has recommended.
  • Do some research regarding best practices for authoring your e-portfolio
  • Do more research at some of the hyperlinks below
  • Do some more research at other online resources you may find
  • Add any additional resources, assets , or exemplars of your work.
  • Dress the site up with any photos, narrative, or additional artifacts you want to use to represent who you are
  • Publish the site
  • Provide your instructor with a Link to the e-portfolio so he or she may review and grade your work.

Assignment 2: RA 1: Presentation—Establishing a Performance Management Strategy

As industrial/organizational (I/O) practitioners, we address organizational problems. Companies often assess employee performance or track it to some extent, but such activities are not always part of a strong performance management plan. Without such a plan, managers are frequently unprepared to manage employee performance. As such, it is our responsibility to educate and subsequently put into practice quality standards and procedures to address organizational issues.

BANKS Industries is satisfied with your work and has asked you to assist it in an expanded project. The company is looking at methods of tracking employee performance. For this assignment, you will present the idea of a performance management system to BANKS Industries and begin to make recommendations for future practices. Review the scenario and directions below regarding what you will include in your letter and presentation.

Scenario:

For the course project, you will take on the role of a consultant to evaluate this organization’s performance management system and make recommendations that will help the organization better manage employee performance. You recently received an e-mail from Mabel Banks, chief financial officer, outlining her concerns and requesting your assistance.

Click here to read the e-mail from Mabel Banks.

Directions:

Part A: Develop a letter for the organizational leaders. In 1–2 pages:

  • Explain the importance of managing employee performance.
  • On the basis of a review of company information, describe how your consulting services will assist the company in addressing its organizational problems.
  • On the basis of research and theory, mention current organizational practices of performance management as well as apparent issues.

Write using a formal tone in consideration of your audience, the organizational leaders. The letter should follow formal business format standards. Business letter templates are available from http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates. To cite the scholarly sources you use to present research and theory, use parenthetical citations in the body of the letter and then include your list of references on a page following the letter.

Part B: Presentation

You have been selected to assist the organization with its performance concerns. Create and narrate (using an audio component, such as a voiceover or a recording) a presentation to organizational stakeholders, addressing the following points in 10–15 minutes:

  • Explain the link between organizational goals and strategic planning and the potential impact a performance management system may have on employee performance and attitude.
  • Determine the organizational advantages of implementing a performance management system and the potential disadvantages to not implementing a performance management system for BANKS Industries.
  • Compare and contrast the company’s current critical incident technique with the use of a graphic rating scale.
  • Recommend guidelines for providing feedback to employees during the performance management process.

Your final product will be a 10- to 15-minute presentation (using Microsoft PowerPoint Show, Prezi, PowToon, or other presentation software and including audio). Utilize at least four scholarly sources in your research (including a 1- to 2-page letter in Microsoft Word). Your presentation should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources in APA format; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Technical Requirements:

  • Presentation Software
  • Microphone

Discussion week 13

From BBC News on the San Bernardino, CA December 2015 killings: “President Obama says the U.S. ‘will not be terrorized’ by the deadly San Bernardino shootings, which the FBI is treating as an act of terrorism.”   Inspired by the aims and ideology of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) which has claimed the two killers as supporters, “Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and his wife Tashfeen Malik, 29, killed 14 people before being shot dead by police” (bbc.com/news 12/5/15).

In Paris on November 13, 2015, 130 people were killed by coordinated terrorist attacks in three different locations at the same time.   The French President Francois Hollande subsequently declared “France is at war.  We are in a war against terrorism, jihadism, which threatens the whole world.  Terrorism will not destroy France because France will destroy it” (cnn.com 11/16/15).

And you also know about more recent terrorist killings this year such as the terrorist who used a truck to mow down innocent people, including children, in Nice, France, and more than 80 people were killed.

For our week discussion forum, please answer two of the following three questions but be sure you answer question three as one of the two you’re answering:

[1] In your view, are the terrorists winning?  If yes, then what does that mean and how do you know?  If no, then what does that mean and how do you know?

[2] In the face of today’s terrorism, does the warning of the 19th century German Philosopher apply to us?  How might it relate to just war principles?  Explain.  “Whoever fights monsters should be careful that he does not become a monster.  When you stare into an abyss, the abyss stares back into you” (Beyond Good and Evil, #146).

[3] On her 16th birthday, the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, Malala Yousafzi addressed the U.N. as a devout Muslim who had been shot in the head by the Taliban in Pakistan in 2012.  Listen to her speech and then share your response to her views on terrorists and how she has chosen to respond.  Is Malala a pacifist?  Is she arguing against just war theory? Groups and Teams

Group Dynamics and Teams

We will continue our experiential approach to the study of Organizational Behavior by engaging in a personal applied case on the topic of group dynamics and teams. As in Module 1, use the following outline to structure your 4- to 6-page paper. You may use the subtitles as headings for your paper.

Introduction: Discuss the topic of the paper and how you will approach it. It is best to write this section after you have written the rest of the paper.

Concrete Experience: Begin with a specific situation/event. Describe an experience with a group or team that was meaningful to you. It may have been an extraordinarily good experience – or it may have been an experience that did not work out very well at all! The important point is that it should be an experience which you would like to understand better. Be objective and focus on just the facts: who, what, where, when, and how – as if you were composing a newspaper article.

Reflective Observation: Reflect upon that experience from multiple perspectives of persons involved or affected in the experience. Step back from the situation, look at the experience from your own viewpoint, and from the perspective of all other parties involved or affected. You want to look at the circumstances surrounding the experience from every relevant point of view. Why did you behave the way that you did? Why did others behave the way that they did? Did others have the same positive (or negative) experience? Explain. (Note: your discussion of theories and models from your module materials belongs in the following section.)

Abstract Conceptualization: (This Abstract Conceptualization section is the “heart” of your paper.) Use critical thinking skills to understand and interpret the experience at a deeper, more generalizable level. Interpret and understand the events you have described by drawing on the concepts, theories, and models in the background material from this module. Explain how they apply to your experience. For example, what behavior patterns can you identify in yourself and others that are similar to the ones described in the material on communication, teams, and conflict management? Does the model of Force Field Analysis (home page) help you better understand why people behaved the way they did? Be sure to apply at least three concepts, theories, and/or models and cite all references to concepts, ideas, and/or quotes that you use from any outside source.

Active Experimentation: Identify ways to respond to the next occurrence of a similar experience. What have you learned about the way groups work from this analysis? What have you learned from your mistakes? How are you going to put what you have learned to use? What actions will you take to build more effective work teams in your job?

Conclusion: Sum up the main points of your analysis and the key learning you are taking from it.

Reference List: List all references that you have cited in the paper using APA formatting. References include materials from the required background readings as well as any outside internet or library sources you used in researching and writing your paper.

Unit 7 Case Study Accounting

Instructions

Cookie Creations (Chapters 11 and 15)

This assignment is a continuation of the Cookie Creations case study and focuses on Cookie Creations’ liabilities (current and long-term). From the information gathered from the unit lesson, required unit resources, and suggested unit resources, read the Cookie Creations case study below, which is also available on p.11-37 (Chapter 11) and p. 15-38 (Chapter 15) in the textbook.

The case study allows you to apply what you have learned about liabilities and the accounting process. This assignment will allow you to practice what you have learned so far.

Part I

Recall that Cookie Creations sells fine European mixers that it purchases from Kzinski Supply Company. Kzinski warrants the mixers to be free of defects in material and workmanship for 1 year from the date of original purchase. If the mixer has such a defect, Kzinski will repair or replace the mixer free of charge for parts and labor. The product must be shipped prepaid to an authorized Kzinski service center. The consumer pays the cost to ship the mixer. The cost to return the product to the consumer is paid by Kzinski.

The authorized service center is located in Boston. Because Cookie Creations values serving its customers, it pays the shipping to Boston for any mixers needing repair under Kzinski’s warranty terms. Based on past experience, Kzinski has found that approximately 10% of mixers are returned for repair or replacement. The average cost to ship a mixer to Boston is $60.

The following transactions take place in 2020 and 2021.

  1. A total of 30 mixers are sold in 2020.
  2. Four of the mixers sold in 2020 are returned for repair in 2021. The total shipping cost for returning these four mixers to Boston is $210.
  3. A total of 40 mixers are sold in 2021.
  4. Two of the mixers sold in 2021 are returned for repair in 2021. The total shipping cost for returning these two mixers to Boston is $55.

For Part I of the assignment, complete the tasks listed below using Excel.

  1. Calculate Cookie Creations’ warranty liability for the shipping costs at December 31, 2020.
  2. Record the estimated warranty liability at December 31, 2020.
  3. Prepare the summary journal entry (or entries) to record the shipment of the six mixers (four from the 2020 sales and two from the 2021 sales) for warranty repair in 2021. d.
  4. Calculate Cookie Creations’ warranty liability at December 31, 2021. (Hint: Note that there is no liability outstanding for the mixers sold in 2020. The 1-year warranty period has expired.)
  5. Record the estimated warranty liability at December 31, 2021. (Hint: Similar to accounting for bad debts, consider any existing balance in the warranty liability account when you prepare your entry. You will find it helpful to prepare a general ledger account for the warranty liability and to post the above transactions.)
Part II

Natalie and Curtis have been experiencing great demand for their cookies and muffins. As a result, they are now thinking about buying a commercial oven. They know which oven they want and that it will cost $17,000. The company already has $5,000 set aside for the purchase and will need to borrow the rest.

Natalie and Curtis met with a bank manager to discuss their options. She is willing to lend Cookie & Coffee Creations Inc. $12,000 on November 1, 2020, for 3 years at a 5% interest rate. The terms provide for fixed principal payments of $2,000 on May 1 and November 1 of each year plus 6 months of interest.

For Part II of the assignment, complete the tasks listed below.

  1. Prepare a payment schedule for the life of the note.
  2. Prepare the journal entry for the purchase of the oven and the issue of the note payable on November 1, 2020.
  3. Prepare the journal entries on May 1 and November 1 for the note.
  4. Determine the current portion of the note payable and the long-term portion of the note payable at October 31, 2021.

Parts I and II should be submitted in a single Excel spreadsheet. You will use a new tab to complete each transaction for both Parts I and II for a total of nine separate tabs or sheets. Submit the Excel spreadsheet in Blackboard.

Focused SOAP Note for Anxiety, PTSD, and OCD

 PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW

ZERO PLAGIARISM

In assessing patients with anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, and trauma and stressor-related disorders, you will continue the practice of looking to understand chief symptomology in order to develop a diagnosis. With a differential diagnosis in mind, you can then move to a treatment and follow-up plan that may involve both psychopharmacologic and psychotherapeutic approaches.

In this Assignment, you use a case study to develop a focused SOAP note based on evidence-based approaches.

To Prepare

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources. Consider the insights they provide about assessing and diagnosing anxiety, obsessive compulsive, and trauma-related disorders.
  • Review the Focused SOAP Note template, which you will use to complete this Assignment. There is also a Focused SOAP Note Exemplar provided as a guide for Assignment expectations.
  • Review the video, Case Study: Dev Cordoba. You will use this case as the basis of this Assignment. In this video, a Walden faculty member is assessing a mock patient. The patient will be represented onscreen as an avatar.
  • Consider what history would be necessary to collect from this patient.
  • Consider what interview questions you would need to ask this patient.

The Assignment

Develop a Focused SOAP Note, including your differential diagnosis and critical-thinking process to formulate a primary diagnosis. Incorporate the following into your responses in the template:

  • Subjective: What details did the patient provide regarding their chief complaint and symptomology to derive your differential diagnosis? What is the duration and severity of their symptoms? How are their symptoms impacting their functioning in life?
  • Objective: What observations did you make during the psychiatric assessment?
  • Assessment: Discuss the patient’s mental status examination results. What were your differential diagnoses? Provide a minimum of three possible diagnoses with supporting evidence, listed in order from highest priority to lowest priority. Compare the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for each differential diagnosis and explain what DSM-5 criteria rules out the differential diagnosis to find an accurate diagnosis. Explain the critical-thinking process that led you to the primary diagnosis you selected. Include pertinent positives and pertinent negatives for the specific patient case.
  • Plan: What is your plan for psychotherapy? What is your plan for treatment and management, including alternative therapies? Include pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatments, alternative therapies, and follow-up parameters, as well as a rationale for this treatment and management plan. Also incorporate one health promotion activity and one patient education strategy.
  • Reflection notes: What would you do differently with this patient if you could conduct the session again? Discuss what your next intervention would be if you could follow up with this patient. Also include in your reflection a discussion related to legal/ethical considerations (demonstrate critical thinking beyond confidentiality and consent for treatment!), health promotion, and disease prevention, taking into consideration patient factors (such as age, ethnic group, etc.), PMH, and other risk factors (e.g., socioeconomic, cultural background, etc.).
  • Provide at least three evidence-based, peer-reviewed journal articles or evidenced-based guidelines that relate to this case to support your diagnostics and differential diagnoses. Be sure they are current (no more than 5 years old).
