Therapy for Patients With Schizophrenia

Psychosis and schizophrenia greatly impact the brain’s normal processes, which interfere with the ability to think clearly. When symptoms of these disorders are uncontrolled, patients may struggle to function in daily life. However, patients often thrive when properly diagnosed and treated under the close supervision of a psychiatric mental health practitioner. For this Assignment, as you examine the patient case study in this week’s Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat patients presenting with psychosis and schizophrenia.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources, including the Medication Resources indicated for this week.
  • Reflect on the psychopharmacologic treatments you might recommend for the assessment and treatment of patients with schizophrenia-related psychoses.

Dream, Journey, Identity

Hong Kong cinema is more than martial arts and action.  The second part of the course examines dramas of love, fantasy, journey, and self-discovery in Hong Kong cinema.  Characters in these films seem to harbor a big dream: a “Hong Kong dream,” a “California dream,” or a “New York dream.”  With the passage of time, they attempt to create new identities for themselves: be a different person, go to a new place, enter a relationship, or feel nostalgia for the past.  Discuss the ways in which these characters change, pursue dreams, cherish old relationships, or search for new identities.  Please feel free to consult relevant discussions in Planet Hong Kong by Professor David Bordwell, the anthology A Companion to Hong Kong Cinema, and the special section “China and China Diaspora Film” in the online journal Jump Cut. (See the syllabus for details.)

In your analysis, you should refer to at least three films by three different directors.  Please also briefly comment on the stylistic characteristics of each of the directors and films.  Once again, like the midterm, both what you write and how you write are important.  Avoid simple generalization.  You need to refer to specific elements in the films.  Coherence, organization, and elegance are important criteria for good writing.

Important note

Plagiarism is not tolerated. If a student’s paper shows a high percentage of similarity to existing online sources and does not cite the sources, this constitutes a possible case of plagiarism. All such cases will be reported to the Office of Student Support and Judicial Affairs immediately. That office will impose disciplinary action on the student if it determines that there is indeed plagiarism.

Collaborative Governance and Social Equity

Students will be required to complete a concise, well-articulated essay that incorporates a speech found within the Golway text (or an approved speech) that covers one or multiple concepts covered in the course. You will discuss different elements of the speech and describe how they relate to American government as recommended by a grading rubric provided by the instructor.

The Golway text has famous speeches by U.S. presidents and other leaders from George Washington all the way to George W. Bush and Barak Obama (and many in between). Consider reviewing a speech from a person you don’t know know much about (just a thought). Tell me about their speech, what did the say, what do you think they really meant, and what does it mean to you. There’s no “right” approach…again, Tell me about their speech, what did the say, what do you think they really meant, and what does it mean to you. Make sense??

This essay should be at least 1,000 words in length, not including references, tables, graphs, etc. This essay should be double-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman or Cambria font with standard one-inch margins. All references should be cited according to the American Psychology Association (APA) (6th ed.) style in author-date format with a separate reference section located at the end of the essay. It is highly recommended that you consult the citation guides provided online (e.g., https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl).

**10. Barack Obama’s “A More Perfect Union” Speech**

(This is the speech I want the essay on)

2008 SPEECH

What Obama Said: “Contrary to the claim of some of my critics, black and white, I have never been so naïve to think as to believe we can get beyond our racial divisions on a single election cycle or with a single candidate, particularly a candidacy as imperfect as my own. But I have asserted a firm conviction, a conviction rooted in my faith in God and my faith in the American people, that working together we can move beyond some of our old racial wounds, and that in fact we have no choice. We have no choice if we are to continue on the path of a more perfect union…What we know, what we have seen, is that America can change. That is the true genius of this nation. What we have already achieved gives us hope, the audacity to hope, for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.”

Why It Was Important: Conventional wisdom wouldn’t recommend a speech on race. But Obama ran to the challenge, not away from it. Uniquely positioned to do so, he welcomed listeners to places many have never experienced—a predominantly black church, a cringeworthy conversation with a beloved relative of a different race, the kitchen tables of white Americans who feel resentful and left behind—and he recounted Americans often divergent perspectives. He asked us to be honest about our past while connecting it to the structural barriers faced by African Americans and other people of color today…Direct, honest, but nuanced, Obama believed that most Americans were ready to hear the truth and make a choice, to move beyond racial stalemate, face our challenges, and act accordingly.

Policing in America

In this course, we have been learning about the different time periods of policing. Based on the current climate, there is a level of distrust today between the police and the public. Riots, marches, and protests in response to high-profile police shootings have eroded the relationships that were built through community policing. With the hopes of improving police efficiency and finding new approaches to working together with the public, we move into a new period of policing.

Using the Internet links provided this week and your textbook look at the different periods of policing up to today. Based on the changing role and function of police officers over the years, address the questions below, ending with the current state of policing and how it is affected by technology.

Use the Policing in America Template [DOCX] in which you will:

  1. Examine different periods of policing and discuss their main strengths and weaknesses.
  2. Identify the period of policing that you believe has had the greatest impact, and justify why you feel that is.
  3. Explain how technology affects policing in today’s society, including both the pros and cons.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

  • Summarize the history and impact of key policing eras.
