Capstone 5

• Develop a strategic action plan for yourself.

Introduction

The final step in developing your strategic plan is to translate your strategy into action. A robust action plan contains four elements:

• Identification of specific actions to be undertaken in the next year or less.• Establishment of a clear time frame for the completion of each action.• Creation of accountability by identifying who is responsible for each action.• Determination of one or more specific, immediate objectives that the action should achieve.

Functional tactics and monetary ramifications are the underlying details of your strategic action plan. Functional tactics are short-term, narrow-scoped plans that detail the activities you will use to achieve your short-term objectives. The monetary ramifications of your strategic plan will likely be expressed in both income and expenses, for example, the amount of increased income anticipated by climbing the corporate ladder and the amount of money you may need to spend on education or professional development.

Note: Developing a strategic plan requires specific steps that need to be executed in a sequence. The assessments in this course are presented in order and should be completed in sequence.

In the previous assessments, you have developed your mission statement, conducted a personal SWOT analysis and environmental scan, and laid out your long-term and short-term objectives. Now, you will create a strategic plan to achieve your objectives.

Your completed Strategic Action Plan will be based on the information from your mission statement, your SWOT analysis, environmental scan, and your long-term and short-term plans; however, you do not need to include these items in this assessment.

Develop a strategic action plan in which you address the following:

• Specific steps you will need to take in the next year to achieve your 5-year objectives.• A time frame for completing each action.• The scorecard you will use to measure the success of each action.• The functional tactics you will use to achieve your short-term objectives.• The resources (financial, human, and other) you will use to complete each action.• An analysis of the monetary ramifications of each action.• A plan for monitoring the progress of the action plan.• A plan for handling obstacles or roadblocks.• An explanation of how your overall strategic plan reflects your mission statement.

To successfully complete this assessment, you may need to do some research on strategic action plans. Format this assessment as a research paper following current APA guidelines for both style and citing sources, making sure that you also use correct grammar and mechanics. There is no required minimum or maximum page length; however, you should strive to be as detailed as possible in addressing each bullet point, while also being as clear and concise as possible.

Competencies Measured

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies:

• Competency 1: Create organizational value. o Explain how a strategic plan reflects a mission statement.• Competency 2: Participate collaboratively and respectfully. o Describe the resources needed to complete the steps of a strategic plan.• Competency 3: Communicate effectively. o Explain how to measure the success of the steps needed to achieve long-term objectives.o Write coherently to support a central idea in appropriate format with correct grammar, usage, and mechanics.• Competency 4: Plan strategically. o Describe functional tactics used to achieve short-term objectives.o Describe a plan for monitoring the progress of a strategic plan.o Explain strategies for addressing roadblocks and obstacles to a strategic plan.• Competency 5: Employ high-performance business management techniques. o Describe the steps and associated time frames needed to achieve long-term objectives.• Competency 7: Use appropriate financial models and principles. o Explain the financial ramifications associated with a strategic plan.

Position Paper

Overview

Public administration is an essential link between citizens and  governments. With the rapid pace of globalization, the public sector is  under even greater pressure to increase its capacity to deal with the  new challenges and opportunities that globalization presents. The  relationship between globalization and governance is multidimensional.  States or countries with high levels of integration with the rest of the  world tend to have better governance outcomes on the whole. Of course,  the quality of governance can be directly related to the social and  economic integration between states. The gross domestic product (GDP)  per capita, religion, natural resources, fractionalization, and  government size largely decide the outcomes.

Like globalization, governance can be conceived broadly or narrowly. How does globalization affect macroeconomic policymaking?

Instructions

In this assignment, you are expected to select one country and do the following:

  • Discuss a significant issue or challenge arising from globalization that has taken place in the last 3–5 years.
  • Critically evaluate the current policy or policies for the issue or challenge.
  • Consider possible alternatives.
  • Advocate a particular policy choice and provide a rationale.

Write a 1–2 page paper in which you do the following:

  1. Provide an introduction and context for the issue or challenge.
  2. Summarize what the existing literature says about the selected  issue or challenge and the selected country’s policies impacting the  issue.
  3. Suggest two policy options that the selected country’s government could follow in order to resolve the issue or challenge.
  4. Recommend one policy action based on your analysis of a set of alternatives. Provide a rationale for your recommendation.
  5. Provide at least three reliable, relevant, peer-reviewed  references (no more than one used previously), published within the last  five years that support the paper’s claims.

Assignment: Multiracial Discrimination

Dalmage (2013) writes, “Parents and teachers  should be aware of the unique forms of discrimination faced by  multiracial children and the White supremacist system in which  discrimination flourishes” (p. 101). As social workers, we should be  aware of our own understanding of what it means to be multiracial in  society. This awareness includes a review of our own potential biases  that might exist. We need to challenge our own personal ideas about how  we categorize individuals and those assumptions that follow along with  those categories. Rather, we must respect our client’s experience as a  multiracial person in the world, beginning with asking him or her how  they would define themselves when completing an intake or assessment  form. Further, a social worker must be aware of the many forms of racism  and prejudice a person with a multiracial background might experience.  As Dalmage discusses, judgment comes from many sides with different  intentions and expectations. Being aware of the particular forms of  racism that a person who is multiracial will experience will give you  the ability to do your best to understand their experience and  empathize.

By Day 7

2- to 3-page.  Describe the impact of discrimination on individuals of multiracial  backgrounds. Describe the impact of biracial/multiracial or multiethnic  distinction on our society. Justify your response. How do these  distinctions relate to social work practice with individuals, families,  groups, and communities? Be sure to use APA formatting and references  from the Learning Resources and two additional peer-reviewed resources  from the Walden library about the discrimination against biracial and  multiracial individuals.

Your final project must be submitted as follows:

  1. PowerPoint presentation format.
  2. No fewer than 20 slides organized by topic (do not use “notes” on the bottom of the slide)
  3. Typed, double-spaced, in 16-18-point Times New Roman
  4. Prepared using an acceptable college-level style guide such as APA, MLA, or UMGC’s Guide to Writing and Research; all of these guides can be found in the virtual UMGC library
  5. Presented in such a way that the reader can clearly understand your logic and conclusions. Organize using the slide outline given in the assignment.
  6. Posted in your Assignments folder not later than midnight on the due date for this assignment, according to the syllabus
  7. Use required headings
  8. Citations (end/foot notes) within text is required as well as a references slide (Use APA)  at the end of the paper
  9. Cover page and references slide are required and included in the slide number.
  10. Keep text analysis in the business tradition of a 3rd person voice (no I, me or my, we, or you, etc).
  11. DO NOT use portions of a another project (typically Principles of Marketing 350) to plug into any of the requirements for this project.  The two projects are very different.

Background

Consumer behavior research can be very expensive and time consuming. How do companies decide/justify spending money on research? Many large companies that regularly conduct research begin with a very small exploratory project that is often done with the expertise that is already staffed in the Marketing Department. Once this is done and if it’s found you need a national sample then, you can pitch the CFO for the money needed to go forward. You have been put in the position of conducting the exploratory research to find if you need to hire an expensive outside Consumer Behavior Research firm to take the research to the next level. You have been assigned a brand/product item for your first consumer behavior research project (brand assigned at random by Professor). Complete sections one and three based on secondary data collected through outside research.

Cover Slide: Include name of student, Professor and the brand that is being covered. (Slide 1)

Section 1: Background

  1. A) Give some introductory information about your product/brand. Include the current status of the four P’s. Not needed is historic information (company beginnings, etc.). Only current data is needed here.  (This should be covered in slides 2-5, one slide for each area of the Market Mix)

          B) Research and discuss the brands target market:

  • demographics (slide 6)
  • also include the geographics, psychographics and any behavior-based segmenting variables (label them by base) (slide 7)
  • typical decision-making aspects (How would the target go through the Consumer Decision Process?  Where in the Consumer Decision Process does there seem to be issues?) (slide 8)
  • identify one market segment that you will discuss as a target market using segmenting variables discussed above. (slide 9)

 Section 2: Consumer Influences

Identify and analyze three of the most relevant aspects of consumer influences that are relevant when marketing this brand. Provide reasoning why you believe the influence is relevant. (Each Consumer Influence should be it’s own slide 10-12)

Examples of what might be included:

  • Attitude
  • Perception
  • Learning/Memory/Consumer Information Processing
  • Motivation
  • Emotion
  • Personality
  • External Influences:
    • family
    • culture
    • social class
    • reference groups
    • situation
    • generation
    • any other external influences.

Section 3: Marketing Strategy (Identify current issues that may need consumer behavior research).

Outline at least SIX questions for each of the three Consumer Influences (from SECTION 2) relating to the brand being explored (relating directly to Consumer Behavior internal and or external factors). Each group of questions must have at least 6 closed-ended questions which explore the dimension in detail.  For each question, give an explanation as to why it needs to be asked.  State the question and then give the reasoning. Be sure to organize by paragraph.  DO NOT question using marketing terms or concepts (ex. What are your perceptions of the brand?).  Qualifying questions (demographic or otherwise) are not included in the required number but you can ask these to get the correct sample for your survey.    (Slides 13-18)

Examples of areas that pair nicely with the Consumer Influences include:

  • advertising
  • consumer decision process (be specific which stage)
  • public relations and publicity
  • sponsorship
  • cross promotion
  • product distribution (specific retailer, shelving, etc.)
  • product placement
  • alternative media
  • pricing
  • sales activities
  • customer service
  • packaging
  • brand name, brand images, brand personality figures or celebrity endorsers

Section 4: Present and Survey Respondents

A) Complete a Consumer Behavior Survey with at least 20 questions using the questions created in Section 3.  The breakdown of the questions should be 18 closed-ended questions and 2 open-ended questions.  Be sure that the closed-ended questions are numerically scaled questions (horizontal scales presented, adjectives are numerically represented and the presentation is horizontal for the scale offering the + choices from left to right.  Here is an example:

The taste of Coca-cola is important when choosing this brand to purchase:

Very Likely +3  +2  +1  0 -1  -2  -3  Not Very Likely

B) Collect survey results from at least 10 respondents that would be a part of the main target segment discussed in section 1.  In this section, tell how you implemented the instrument (survey) whether is be in person (paper), internet or social media (which one).  Also comment on how the subjects were recruited to take the survey.  Did you offer any incentive?  Were there difficulties in doing this?    What was your response rate (number of surveys mailed/posted vs. what was turned in or taken, if applicable).

(Slide 19 and 20 should represent a copy of the finished look of the survey, the one that was given to the respondents)

Section 5: Analyze Finding/Conclusion

Analyze your findings from the survey, including a minimum of one table. Discuss how your findings (even though they are from a very small sample) could be the basis for a larger research project to be conducted by the brand. A copy of the survey itself and your resulting data must be included in your presentation (results can be in table form). Last, make your recommendation if there needs to be a larger study conducted or not (and why). Identify and recommend which type of research approach should be done (Positivist or Interpretivist) and why.

SOCW 6060 Wk9 Final Case Assignment: Application Of The Problem-Solving Model And Theoretical Orientation To A Case Study (Jake Levy)

The problem-solving model was first laid out by Helen Perlman. Her seminal 1957 book, Social Casework: A Problem-Solving Process, described the problem-solving model and the 4Ps. Since then, other scholars and practitioners have expanded the problem-solving model and problem-solving therapy. At the heart of problem-solving model and problem-solving therapy is helping clients identify the problem and the goal, generating options, evaluating the options, and then implementing the plan.

Because models are blueprints and are not necessarily theories, it is common to use a model and then identify a theory to drive the conceptualization of the client’s problem, assessment, and interventions. Take, for example, the article by Westefeld and Heckman-Stone (2003). Note how the authors use a problem-solving model as the blueprint in identifying the steps when working with clients who have experienced sexual assault. On top of the problem-solving model, the authors employed crisis theory, as this theory applies to the trauma of going through sexual assault. Observe how, starting on page 229, the authors incorporated crisis theory to their problem-solving model.

In this Final Case Assignment, using the same case study that you chose in Week 2, you will use the problem-solving model AND a theory from the host of different theoretical orientations you have used for the case study.

You will prepare a PowerPoint presentation consisting of 11 to 12 slides.

To prepare:

  • Review and focus on the case study that you chose in      Week 2. (Jake Levy Case Study)
  • Review the problem-solving model, focusing on the five      steps of the problem-solving model formulated by D’Zurilla on page 388 in      the textbook.
  • In addition, review this article listed in the Learning      Resources: Westefeld, J. S., & Heckman-Stone, C. (2003). The      integrated problem-solving model of crisis intervention: Overview and      application. The Counseling Psychologist, 31(2), 221–239.      https://doi-org.ezp.waldenulibrary.org/10.1177/0011000002250638

presenting your PowerPoint presentation that addresses the following:

  • Identify the theoretical orientation you have selected      to use.
  • Describe how you would assess the problem orientation      of the client in your selected case study (i.e., how the client perceives      the problem). Remember to keep the theoretical orientation in mind      in this assessment stage.
  • Discuss the problem definition and formulation based on      the theoretical orientation you have selected.
  • Identify and describe two solutions from all the      solutions possible. Remember, some of these solutions should stem from the      theoretical orientation you are utilizing.
  • Describe how you would implement the solution. Remember      to keep the theoretical orientation in mind.
  • Describe the extent to which the client is able to      mobilize the solutions for change.
  • Discuss how you would evaluate whether the outcome is      achieved or not. Remember to keep the theoretical orientation in      mind.
  • Evaluate how well the problem-solving model can be used      for short-term treatment of this client.
  • Evaluate one merit and one limitation of using the      problem-solving model for this case.

Your 11- to 12-slide PowerPoint presentation should follow these guidelines:

  • Each slide should be written using bullet points,      meaning no long paragraphs of written text should be in the slides.
  • Include a brief narration of less than 30 seconds for      each slide (i.e., the narration takes the place of any written paragraphs,      while the bullet points provide context and cues for the audience to      follow along).

Be sure to:

  • Identify and correctly reference the case study you      have chosen.
  • Use literature to support your claims.
  • Use APA formatting and style.
  • Include the reference list on the last slide.

Communication Project

In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competency:

  • Evaluate relevant data and information to determine how to segment and target an audience
  • Apply legal and ethical considerations in relation to the use of target audience information
  • Determine the considerations and adjustments needed to communicate effectively with diverse audiences

Scenario

Wheelies is a small family-owned scooter and bicycle rental business near the large tourist city of San Francisco, CA. Wheelies currently has 42 employees, most of whom are San Francisco residents. Currently, Wheelies promotes itself by having their employees hand out 20% discount coupons within a one mile radius of the store. Employees do this each morning for the three hours that the store is open. Additionally, Wheelies has a Facebook page (though it was last updated two months ago) that offers a two-for-one rental coupon to followers who share the post.

The biggest struggle for Wheelies is its competition with other local businesses to attract tourists. The owner of Wheelies has decided to invest in more modern marketing techniques in hopes of establishing a well-known presence in the community and gaining new customers who return to support the business year after year. This will require the owner to better understand the company’s audiences and how best to market to them. To begin this process, they have reached out to the San Francisco Travel Association and the California Department of Finance for the most recent publicly available numerical data on the city’s tourists, which was gathered through city censuses and formal questionnaires. The complied information is listed in the provided fact sheet under the Supporting Materials section.

You have been hired by the owner as a consultant, and your job is to create a basic communication plan that provides guidance on how to appropriately collect demographic information, analyze the gathered demographic data provided, and identify ways to reach the target audience so that the owner can move forward with her new marketing campaign.

Directions

Using the provided scenario and customer data set, create a communication plan for Wheelies that addresses the company’s goals to be well-known in the community and to retain new customers year after year. This plan will affect both internal staff and external customers, so it’s important to consider the company in terms of its employees, values, and goals. Be sure to provide sufficient guidance and rationales in your communication plan that will allow for the plan to speak for itself. This is especially important since it is currently the off-season, and you will not be available during most of the busy season when the part-time staff come back to work.

Specifically, you have been asked to address the following. Make sure to support your responses using the course resources.

  1. Data and Information Collection: Review the San Francisco Fact Sheet, then provide feedback on how the data and information were collected and make suggestions for future improvements. Address the following:
    • Evaluate whether the data and information is accurate, credible, and valid based on how it was collected.
    • Determine whether the data and information were collected in accordance with federal laws and regulations.
    • Suggest additional research techniques that would have been beneficial in collecting information to best target an audience.
  2. Analyzing Audience Data: Analyze the demographic data that Wheelies has already collected on their target audiences. Address the following:
    • Identify important target audience demographic information that has been collected.
    • Determine if the current communication strategies being used are appropriate for target audiences.
  3. Recommending Effective Delivery Strategies: Recommend effective delivery methods and strategies to help the business reach its goals. Address the following:
    • Identify key considerations and targeted adaptations needed to craft an effective message for diverse audiences.
    • Explain how current delivery methods and strategies could be improved to better reach intended audiences.
    • Recommend new delivery methods for each intended audience. For example, decide whether to deliver the campaign messages through the use of emails, phone calls, fliers, social media, and so on.
    • Describe the potential issues that could arise as a result of delivering the targeted message. For instance, consider the legal, ethical, or cultural issues.
    • Explain how the targeted messages might reach unintended audiences.

Applying Decision-Making Skills

As a manager, part of your role is to develop strategy, and share this strategy with various stakeholders within the organization. This assignment will allow you to take your findings as a manager and communicate these findings to those who are affected.

Your company has been presented with a decision on replacing a piece of equipment for a new computerized version that promotes efficiency for the upcoming year. As manager you will need to decide whether or not the purchase of the new equipment is a worthwhile investment and to communicate your recommendations to Executive Management for a final decision. To be convincing, sufficient support for your recommendations must be provided in order to be considered valid and accepted.  (Information Attached)

In this assignment, use the information above to develop a comprehensive analysis using NPV, Payback Method, and IRR to develop a recommendation on replacing the existing equipment with a new computerized version. Develop an executive summary of your findings in a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation format to present to Executive Management.

Do the following in your presentation:

•Include a statement of the problem or topic, a concise analysis of the findings, and a recapitulation of any main conclusions or recommendations.

•Be sure to incorporate specific details to highlight or support the summary including calculations.

•Using your knowledge of capital budgeting techniques, explain how principles of capital budgeting, such as the payback method, IRR, and NPV, can be used to assess the potential projects and assist in the decision-making process.

Develop a 10-12 slide presentation in PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
