Discussion: Alignment of Prospectus Sections through Abstract Development 8115

(topic: POLICE BRUTALITY AGAINST AFRICAN AMRICAN MALES)

Using the Abstract Guidelines (both Word and PPT versions) and the annotated outline in the Dissertation Prospectus Guide, draft a one-page abstract of your Prospectus draft as if it were an abstract of your three-chapter Proposal. Think of it as a short overview and summary of your Prospectus. Obviously, you will not be able to include research findings, but an abstract for your Prospectus will provide a blueprint for the abstract for your Proposal. In this Discussion, you will review your Historical Alignment Tool (HAT) matrix that you developed in Week 5.

You will also evaluate two of your colleagues’ Dissertation Prospectus abstracts.

This Discussion provides another opportunity to examine the alignment of all components of your Prospectus, in order to support the creation of your dissertation Prospectus, as you continue to document both the developmental evolution of and the alignment among the problem statement purpose, potential significance, research question, theoretical framework, research design and methodology (“method of inquiry”), data collection and analysis method, and implications for positive social change. As discussed in Week 5, to do this well often takes a number of iterations as you research, gather, digest, and analyze new information about your research topic.

Continued use of the HAT will provide iterative documentation of your rationale for making key research design/methodology decisions. The HAT should be updated after each Ph.D. residency and at the end of every quarter, to (a) validate your choices, or (b) explain how new knowledge or thoughts have informed changes in your dissertation research design and methodology. Think of it as a master “tracking tool” for changes you make along the way. Later in the course, you will want to ensure that your Prospectus, HAT, and abstract match one another and are in alignment and up to date.

ASSIGNMENT

Use the Abstract Guidelines listed in this week’s Learning Resources, to create your abstract, and then post the one-page abstract of your Prospectus as an attachment to your Discussion.

MUST BE APA WRITTEN MUST FOLLOW ALL GUIDLINES

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN’T SEE THE EXAMPLES.

Sociology and mental health

Week Five Assignment: Sociology and Mental Health

Purpose:

The sociology of mental health examines our approach to diagnosing and treating mental illnesses as extensions of culture and social structure. To supplement medically-based neurological explanations for our emotional experiences, sociologists account for these social conditions in determining the existence of mental illnesses. The below assignment asks you to adopt the sociological perspective in your analysis of mental health in society.

Instructions:

Write an 8-10 page paper (not including the title and reference pages) that addresses these four areas:

  1. Giving specific reference to our reading material for the week, define in your own words the sociological viewpoint toward mental health in society.
  2. Based upon your own independent research, cite at least three separate journal articles that are no more than five years old that demonstrate the difference between a sociological viewpoint toward mental health and a strictly clinical viewpoint.
  3. In offering a critique of the clinical viewpoint toward mental health, please explain the rise and impact of the United States’ pharmaceutical industry. For example, has this industry influenced the rates of mental health diagnoses and treatment? Has it helped shape whether or not we think our emotional distress might necessitate psychiatric treatment?
  4. Provide at least three important examples in which the “feeling rules” for women and men are different. Next, explain how differences in these feeling rules may result in a mental illness diagnosis for one gender but not the other. Be sure to cite your sources to validate your arguments. The sources should be more than five years old.
  5. Evaluate whether or not the increase in psychiatric medications is beneficial, neutral, or detrimental to society. Please ground this evaluation from a sociological perspective. Be sure to cite at least one source no more than five years old to validate your argument.

General requirements:

  • Submissions should be typed, double-spaced, 1″ margins, times new roman 12 pt font, and saved as .doc, .docx, .pdf.
  •  Include subheadings to identify each section.

Turf and Maintenance Sports Facilities

Q1.  The process of establishing and maintaining a field for athletic competition can be daunting. However, understanding the type of turfgrass needed for the facility’s location is paramount to avoiding possible difficulties. What is the best warm season turfgrass Bermuda or Zoysia? Based on what you have learned about each, which type would you use, and why?  Your response should be at least 400 words in length.

Q2.  Numerous green solutions exist to help conserve resources, which has become a major trend in the planning and management of sport facilities. List and describe some ways that a facility manager can avoid waste and loss of revenue by using green facility management strategies. Your response should be at least 200 words in length.

Q3.    Lack of maintenance can be very costly and lead to serious issues with building code violations, structural failure, and many other issues. That is why having a good benchmarking program and repair monitoring system is so vital. One technology that is impacting sport facility management is the use of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Please provide an overview of this kind of system. What is the benefit of using a CMMS? Your response should be at least 200 words in length.

College English, essay,discussion

This week you will write an outline for Paper 2.  To do so, you should organize the information that will be in your essay.  The purposes of an outline are many, and it is a vital skill to be able to make an effective structure for your thoughts.  Outlines should save you time and effort, while also making your work far more effective.  That said, few students use them at all, or use them effectively.  That is why we are going to practice them here.

An effective outline should have a few basic elements.  To demonstrate these, I will do so in outline form.  You can watch this video for some helpful tips too.

  1. Aspects of an effective outline
    1. Hierarchy of ideas (structure)
      1. Defines the function of each idea
        1. Topic sentence: defines a paragraph
        2. Major detail: supports the topic sentence and is usually a concept of some kind
        3. Minor detail: supports a major detail and is often a specific, concrete example, quote, statistic, or explanation
    2. Content: evaluating your ideas
      1. Order: there should be a logical way to connect the ideas
        1. Chronological: develops along a time line
        2. Spatial: develops in a physical space
          1. Example: from US regions—West, Mountains, Plains, Midwest, East Coast, South
        3. Importance
          1. From most to least important
          2. From least to most important
      2. Quantity: there should be enough evidence to clearly make your point
        1. Are there any concepts that need additional explanation or evidence to support?
        2. Are there any terms that the reader might not know that need definition?
      3. Quality: the points should be specific and easily understood
    3. Organization
      1. Unity
        1. Every point that is made pertains to the thesis
      2. Coherence
        1. All the points transition well
          1. Transitions are relationships, so there needs to be an obvious relationship between ideas

You should view the Outline Rubric before you begin this assignment.  You are also required to write two peer responses, which is a space that should be used to review each other’s work and make suggestions for improvement.

Please remember that the rubric is a qualitative evaluation of the discussion forum.

Please choose a prompt from the following sources.  Take careful note of what the prompt is asking, and be sure that your paper directly addresses the question at hand.

For “I Want a Wife” answer the following:

Brady’s essay was published in 1972.  How do you think “being a wife” has changed since that time?

Grant Proposal on the Topic REDUCING HOMELESSNESS IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

We have to write a grant proposal and I have chose the topic REDUCING HOMELESSNESS IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. This us my final project of English 102.

The final project is the creation of a grant proposal that proposes a solution to a problem faced by a community or group to which you belong, and address your proposal to anyone who might help solve the problem.

The grant proposal must be 8-12 pages in length (plus your works cited page) and must be written in MLA or APA format. Include at least 8 academic journal sources cited in the proper format, along with the insertion and analysis of a visual source.

The grant proposal will contain the critical elements listed below.

I. Problem Identification: Research and identify resources for a specific issue that needs to be corrected (5-7 pages – at least two pages per subpoint). The issue/problem to be considered critically is stated clearly and described comprehensively, delivering all relevant information necessary for full understanding.

a. Prevalence:

i. What is the issue you have chosen to address? Define what makes your chosen issue a problem for the given community? What data do you have that points to the prevalence of this issue?

b. Assessment of Resources: Evaluate available and needed resources in your community.

i. Evaluate the resources available for providing a program or service to address the problem.

c. Impact of the problem: Describe the impact of the problem on individuals, families, and the community. Construct an impact statement on the prevalence of the identified issue and the lack of community resources.

i. Articulate how the prevalence of the problem has an impact on the community.

ii. How is the lack of available resources exacerbating the issue?

II. Intervention Strategy: This section examines why your proposal will address the problem discussed. It should use various rhetorical techniques to convince and persuade the audience that what you are proposing will address the issue (4-5 pages).

In your submission, be sure to include the critical elements listed below:

§ Research and justify the selection of a theoretically supported and effective intervention strategy for addressing the target issue.

· Efficacy: Analyze and critique at least two established intervention strategies for inconsistencies and effectiveness.

i. Critically examine intervention strategies for consistency.

ii. How effective were these strategies in addressing their respective issues? To what extent would these intervention strategies address the issue identified in your community?

· Selection: Select a strategy and justify your selection based on its effectiveness and the individual, familial, environmental, cultural, and political factors.

III.   Closing Statement: Conclude your grant proposal with careful attention to the audience you must convince.

Ethics Research

Ethics Paper

This paper requires the student to
justify their actions when faced with an ethical dilemma.  Choose one of the following ethical dilemmas
and reflect upon what you would do if you were the researcher.

1.
You are interviewing college women who are
anorexic, but whose anorexia is no longer active, about their schooling
experiences. You have arranged to interview each of your participants at least
five times over two consecutive semesters. During the third interview with one
participant, just after the winter holidays, you begin to suspect that her
anorexia is active again because of her obvious weight loss and a few of her
comments. When you ask her how her health is, she replies that she is feeling
great. What do you do?

2.
You are working on an intellectual biography of
a well-respected police chief. Most of your interviews are with the chief who
has obviously consented to your request to compose an intellectual biography,
including some attention to his formative years. You are reading all of his
published works and interviewing some family members as well as significant
colleagues. In the process, you uncover some potentially damaging or, at the
least, unflattering information about his private life. What do you do?

3.
You are inquiring into a refugee resettlement
program in a small southern city, with particular interest in educational
aspects and community involvement. Through development of rapport and time
spent volunteering with the program, you begin to learn how an early immigrant
is seemingly taking financial advantage of recent refugees. He is charging for
information and services that should be provided through the settlement program
and people are going to him, rather than trying to get their needs met through
the program. You want to protect the new refugees from exploitation and to
report the behavior of the earlier immigrant, yet you also worry that perhaps
you don’t fully understand what is happening culturally. What do you do?

Write on the potential ethical issues
that might arise during the study you choose. What can you do to minimize their
potential? What would you do if faced with your ethical concerns?

Assignment Specifics:

·
Student will write a 10-12 paper (choose from one
of the three)

·
Citations from 10 scholarly sources

·
Citations from any of the required reading/presentations
from the assigned module

·

Project Cost Management

Tony Prince and his team are working on the Recreation and Wellness Intranet Project. They have been asked to refine the existing cost estimate for the project so they can evaluate supplier bids and have a solid cost baseline for evaluating project performance. Recall that your schedule and cost goals are to complete the project in six months for under $200,000.

Tasks

1. Prepare and print a one-page cost model for this project using spreadsheet software. Use the following WBS, and be sure to document your assumptions in preparing the cost model. Assume a labor rate of $100/hour for the project manager and $60/hour for other project team members. Assume that none of the work is outsourced, labor costs for users are not included, and there are no additional hardware costs. The total estimate should be $200,000.

1. Project management

2. Requirements definition

3. Web site design

3.1 Registration for recreational programs

3.2 Registration for classes and programs

3.3 Tracking system

3.4 Incentive system

4. Web site development

4.1 Registration for recreational programs

4.2 Registration for classes and programs

4.3 Tracking system

4.4 Incentive system

5. Testing

6. Training, rollout, and support

2. Using the cost model you created in Task 1, prepare a cost baseline by allocating the costs by WBS for each month of the project.

3. Assume that you have completed three months of the project. The BAC was $200,000 for this six-month project. You can also make the following assumptions:

PV = $120,000

EV = $100,000

AC = $90,000

 a. What is the cost variance, schedule variance, cost performance index (CPI), and schedule performance index (SPI) for the project?

 b. How is the project doing? Is it ahead of schedule or behind schedule? Is it under budget or over budget?

 c. Use the CPI to calculate the estimate at completion (EAC) for this project. Is the project performing better or worse than planned?

 d. Use the SPI to estimate how long it will take to finish this project.

 e. Sketch an earned value chart using the preceding information.

Background: Many healthcare consumers research providers, facilities, hospitals, and practices prior to obtaining care or healthcare services. CMS regulates many healthcare industries, making publicly recorded data available to people based on specific measures and metrics. This week we learned about different measures, metrics, and performance improvement considerations.  While a manager needs to understand these concepts and be able to deliver on these specific elements, the manager should also understand how consumers may utilize these metrics from a consumption standpoint and consumers’ view. Understanding how a consumer selects their care, influences your operations, revenue, and overall potential. Additionally, understanding the CMS comparison sites allows you to review your competition and determine the different areas that your organization may need to improve upon, build upon, or showcase. While there are many sources of data, one of the most common forms that consumers use to evaluate the care delivery options is through the use of CMS, as there is different information that is provided from a public perspective.

Short Essay: Using one of the CMS Compare Sites, provided in the links below, select an industry of interest and search three facilities or practices in your area. Once you have selected your three facilities, providers, or practices, within your industry of interest, then download your report from the CMS Compare Site. (Note: You may need to select the Print option on your website browser and save the comparison information from CMS as a PDF in order to be able to upload your comparison to the assignment dropbox.  You can also provide a screenshot, if you are unable to download the comparison report of your selected healthcare entities.)

Sentence Styles and Structures for Clarity and Emphasis II

Sentence Styles and Structures for Clarity and Emphasis II

I. Parallelism

Observe how we readers can readily anticipate what should go in the blanks below.

1. He fled across the room, through the door, ____________, and across the busy avenue, causing drivers to brake and honk, and pedestrians to _______ and ________.

2. When I eat well, when I play well, and _____________, my life seems balanced.

3. To obey all rules, to suppress any exuberance, ____________, these are not the things that make us wise.

The ease with which we can fill in the blanks tell us something important about writing for a reader.  The reader recognizes patterns and is pleased to see them fulfilled.  One important pattern is the parallel structure.  Notice how parallelism achieves clarity through pattern fulfillment, and as well, is often a means of economizing too.

Fix the fuzzy parallelism:

At our club meeting, we identified problems with finding new members, publicizing our activities, and maintenance issues on the website.

The legal team tried to design clear laws that had precision and also which were equitable.

The coach told the players they should get lots of sleep, overeating is bad, and be warmed up before playing.

A. Parallelisms that use repetition

(Diagram adapted from Harris, Rhetorical Devices for Contemporary Writers)

Anaphora           X– X– X–            repeated word(s) begin each sentence element

Epistrophe –X –X –X            repeated word ends each sentence element

Anadoplosis –X X–                 repeated word ends one then begins next elemt

Epanalepsis X–X                           repeated word begins one then ends next elemt

Anaphora: “Slowly and grimly they advanced, not knowing what lay ahead, not knowing what they would find at the top of the hill, not knowing they were so near to the outpost.”

Epistrophe: “These cars are taking market share because their engineering is superior, the quality of their materials is superior, and the workmanship of their assembly is superior.”

Anadiplosis: “Before investing in an opportunity that seems too good to be true, you should stop to think.  Think about the likelihood of losing all your money.”

Epanalepsis: “The theory sounds all wrong, but if the machine works, one cannot worry about theory.”

Identify which is which below:

-Broken pottery lay everywhere, the kiln and turning wheel also broken.

-Her lithe form moved, over the water, into the water, under the water.

-One can actively choose which products, which stores, which companies.

And fill in the blanks here:

-He sprinted through the room, and through its far door, and through that room, and _______ all the acrid smoke, to find Butters the Kitty waiting patiently.
