health promotion plan presentation

Build a slide presentation (PowerPoint preferred) of the hypothetical health promotion plan you developed in the first assessment. Then, implement your health promotion plan by conducting a hypothetical face-to-face educational session addressing the health concern and health goals of your selected group. How would you set goals for the session, evaluate session outcomes, and suggest possible revisions to improve future sessions?

As you begin to prepare this assessment, you are encouraged to complete the Vila Health: Conducting an Effective Educational Session activity. The information gained from completing this activity will help you succeed with the assessment as you consider key issues in conducting an effective educational session for a selected audience. Completing activities is also a way to demonstrate engagement.

Professional Context

Health education is any combination of learning experiences designed to help community individuals, families, and aggregates improve their health by increasing knowledge or influencing attitudes (WHO, n.d.). Education is key to health promotion, disease prevention, and disaster preparedness. The health indicator framework identified in Healthy People 2020 prompts action in health services accessibility, clinical preventive services, environmental quality, injury or violence prevention, maternal, infant, and child health, mental health, nutrition, substance abuse prevention, and tobacco use cessation or prevention.

Nurses provide accurate evidence-based information and education in formal and informal settings. They draw upon evidence-based practice to provide health promotion and disease prevention activities to create social and physical environments conducive to improving and maintaining community health. When provided with the tools to be successful, people demonstrate lifestyle changes (self-care) that promote health and help reduce readmissions. They are better able to tolerate stressors, including environmental changes, and enjoy a better quality of life. In times of crisis, a resilient community is a safer community (Healthy People 2020, n.d.; Flanders, 2018).

This assessment provides an opportunity for you to apply teaching and learning concepts to the presentation of a health promotion plan.

Demonstration of Proficiency

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 3: Evaluate health policies, based on their ability to achieve desired outcomes.

Preparation

For this assessment, you will conclude the clinical learning activity you began in Assessment 1.

You will resume the role of a community nurse tasked with addressing the specific health concern in your community. This time, you will present, via educational outreach, the hypothetical health promotion plan you developed in Assessment 1 to your fictitious audience. In this hypothetical scenario, you will simulate the presentation as though it would be live and face-to-face. You must determine an effective teaching strategy, communicate the plan with professionalism and cultural sensitivity, evaluate the objectives of the plan, revise the plan as applicable, and propose improvement for future educational sessions. To engage your audience, you decide to develop a PowerPoint presentation with voice-over and speaker notes to communicate your plan.

Remember that your first assessment (Assessment 1) MUST be satisfactorily completed to initiate this assessment (Assessment 4).

Please review the assessment scoring guide for more information.

To prepare for the assessment, you are encouraged to complete the Vila Health: Conducting an Effective Educational Session simulation. You may also wish to review the health promotion plan presentation assessment and scoring guide to ensure that you understand all requirements.

Note: Remember that you can submit all, or a portion of, your draft plan to Smarthinking Tutoring for feedback before you submit the final version for this assessment. If you plan on using this free service, be mindful of the turnaround time of 24–48 hours for receiving feedback.

Instructions

Complete the following:

  • Prepare a 10–12 slide PowerPoint presentation with a voice-over and detailed speaker notes that reflects your hypothetical presentation. This presentation is the implementation of the plan you created in Assessment 1. The speaker notes should be a transcript of the voice-over (please refer to the PowerPoint tutorial).
  • Simulate the hypothetical face-to-face educational session addressing the health concern and health goals of your selected community individual or group.
  • Imagine collaborating with the hypothetical participant(s) in setting goals for the session, evaluating session outcomes, and suggesting possible revisions to improve future sessions.

As you begin to prepare this assessment, you are encouraged to complete the Vila Health: Conducting an Effective Educational Session activity. The information gained from completing this activity will help you succeed with the assessment as you consider key issues in conducting an effective educational session for a selected audience. Write A Policy To Secure The Web Server And The Web Browser

Write two policies to ensure Web browsers and Web servers are secure. All procedures and guidelines will be designed to fulfill the policies you create.

Answer the following questions for Web browser and Web server software:

1. What functions should this software application provide?

2. What functions should this software application prohibit?

3. What controls are necessary to ensure this applications software operates as intended?

4. What steps are necessary to validate that the software operates as intended?

Once you have answered the questions above, fill in the following details to develop your policies to secure application software. Remember, you are writing policies, not procedures. Focus on the high-level tasks, not the individual steps.

Ø Type of application software

Ø Description of functions this software should allow

Ø Description of functions this software should prohibit

Ø Known vulnerabilities associated with software

Ø Controls necessary to ensure compliance with desired functionality

Ø Method to assess security control effectiveness

You will write two policies—one for Web server software and one for Web browser software.

Case Scenario for Rationale

Ken 7 Windows Limited is a manufacturer of Windows for residential and commercial builders. Ken 7 Windows Limited carries a variety of Windows and related products. It supplies builders with all of the tools and supplies to install finished Windows in any type of building.

Ken 7 Windows Limited has just purchased a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) software package to help control costs and increase both quality and customer responsiveness. The ERP software collects and stores information including:

• Raw material costs

• Labor costs

• Materials and labor requirements for products

• Purchasing requirements

Ken 7 Windows Limited has identified six basic roles for users in the new ERP software:

• Administrators—maintain ERP data and system operation.

• Planners—run planning software and generate requirements reports.

• Shop Floor users —enter operational data (receiving, shipping, and product progress during manufacturing).

• Managers—manage department personnel.

• Purchasing users—generate purchasing documents based on planning requirements.

• Accounting users—maintain cost and accounting data.

Access controls limit what users or roles can do with different types of data. For example, consider the following types of data:

• Cost information—raw materials and labor costs, including the cost of finished goods.

• Manufacturing details—cost, amount of labor, and time required to produce finished goods.

• Purchasing requirements—rules for determining when raw materials, components, or supplies should be purchased.

Through access control:

• Cost information can be viewed only by Accounting users.

• Manufacturing details can be viewed only by Shop Floor users.

• Purchasing requirement can be viewed only by Purchasing users.

During the analysis phase of the ERP implementation, Ken 7 Windows Limited raised concerns about users being able to access restricted data.

• Accounting users are able to login to shop floor computers.

• Purchasing users are able to access human resource (HR) applications and data.

The ERP implementation team suggested the following access control measures to protect restricted data.

• Create an organizational unit (OU) in Active Directory for shop floor computers.

• Deploy Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to restrict shop floor users to the shop floor OU.

• Define data access controls in the ERP software to deny access for all non-HR users to restricted data.

Implementation of several access control measures helped Ken 7 Windows Limited to restrict the data access. Hence access control and authentication is important, as it helped Ken 7 Windows Limited in reducing costs and increasing profits.

Structure a COMPREHENSIVE goal-setting program to help an athlete overcome either disorder.

Anorexia nervosa is a psychological disease characterized by an intense fear of becoming obese, a disturbed and distorted body image, significant weight loss unrelated to other illness, refusal to maintain normal body weight, and amenorrhea. Bulimia is an episodic pattern of uncontrollable food bingeing followed by purging. It is characterized by awareness that the pattern is abnormal, fear of being unable to stop eating voluntarily, depressed mood, and self-deprecation. Anorexia nervosa and bulimia are the two most common eating disorders. It is difficult to get an accurate assessment of eating disorders due to under-reporting. Athletes, in particular, are very secretive because they run the risk of being dropped from the team if the problem is discovered. They will only share the problem when the problem is almost catastrophic and professional help is needed. As a coach, I have known that at least six of my athletes suffered from this self-destructive behavior.

Research demonstrates that goals are a powerful means for effecting behavior changes. Goals that directly influence behavior focus a performer’s attention on important elements, increase motivation and persistence, and facilitate the development of new learning strategies. Goals that indirectly influence behavior can alter important psychological factors, such as self-confidence, anxiety, and satisfaction.

Text Group #10

Step #1: Do an Overview for Text Group #10 and Make an Informed Decision

Do a quick summary (only) of each text.

(Much like you have done for the Prepare for the Pod Worksheet)

Label: Overview of Text Group #10

This is a surface level investigation to determine which texts you will work with.

Include this when you turn in Text Group #10

Step #2: Choose Texts and Do a Presentation

Choose (3) three of the authors/texts.

Do the Independent Study Worksheet for each (Three Worksheets)

Briefly explain why you chose the text.

Do a deep investigation into the author and the time/place the text was written in.

Dig deep and respond to the material personally. Show me what you learn.

Make direct connections to the texts we have studied up to this point in theme, story, observations on human nature? I would like you to go back over the Text Groups and see if you can relate the text to several texts we have covered from TG #1-#9. How is the text an evolution of the earlier texts? How might it be a ‘repeat’ of themes/patterns? How does it relate to other texts you have liked?

Consider: How is this literature similar/different to the previous works overall? Do you think the specific text in TG #10 ‘says’ something in response to the early periods? Do you think the text  indicates a major change/shift in society? How? Why/Why not? How might it suggest that we repeat patterns throughout time and space?

Work to find current cultural references, influences, adaptations. These works have had great influence on all aspects of our society and other cultures.

I would like to see you find ways that this literature (themes, issues, ideas, characters…) persists in our culture today in politics, social organizations, philosophy, etc.

Case: Corneas in the Congo

Case: Corneas in the Congo

Sometimes leaders find themselves in a position of choosing between one’s personal morality and one’s ethical duty to an organization. Is what seems to be the obvious right choice always what is actually best for an organization? How can helping people actually be the wrong thing to do? For example: Is the greatest good to provide eyesight to those who have lost it and in the process wind up losing a truck and medical supplies, or is the greatest good to protect an organization from possible scandal if the word gets out that corneas were taken from Chinese prisoners? You will consider questions like these and more in this discussion.First, review the case, Corneas in the Congo, in the following excerpt from, The Ethics of Leadership (Ciulla, 2003, p. 14):You are the head of a small aid agency in the Congo. The mission of your agency is to provide health services for refugees who have fled the various civil wars in the region. In recent years you have worked with a number of nongovernmental organization agencies, such as C.A.R.E., Doctors Without Borders, and the Christian Children’s Fund. Your agency focuses on giving intensive help to small communities. You are now working in a camp of fifty people. Because of a peculiar parasite in the water that destroys the cornea of the eye, ten people in the camp have gone blind; half of them are children. Except for their inability to see, their health is reasonably good, given the conditions of the camp. You contact Doctors Without Borders and they tell you that they will have two ophthalmologists in the area next week, but that the only thing they can do for the people who have gone blind is to give them cornea transplants. They could do the operations, but they said it was impossible to get corneas for transplant in Africa.A few days later, the area director of Doctors Without Borders calls and tells you that a Chinese aid agency has twenty corneas and would be willing to exchange them for a truck and ten cases of medical supplies. This strikes you as odd so you ask, “Where did they get the corneas?” She then tells you that the corneas were donated to the Chinese aid agency by a wealthy Hong Kong businessman. He bought them from a middle man who buys body parts for transplant from prisons. The prisons carefully execute criminals and then take out livers and corneas for resale. Evidently, corrupt prison wardens make huge profits from this practice. This makes them very liberal with executions, especially of political prisoners. You tell the director that the origin of these Chinese corneas makes you uncomfortable. The director says, “We have no problem with using them. If you don’t want them, I’ll give them to someone else. There are too many people in need here.” She says, “You have one day to decide. Tomorrow I have to radio the plane in Kinshasa and tell it where to go next.”Ciulla, J. B. (2003). The ethics of leadership. South Melbourne, Australia; Belmont, CA: Thomson/Wadsworth. ISBN: 9780155063174.

For your initial post in the discussion board, address the following:

  1. Is it wrong to take corneas from Chinese prisoners? Why or why not? Describe what principles are important to you in making this decision.
  2. As the case suggests, imagine you are a leader in this situation, what are your duties and who are the stakeholders in the case?
  3. What are the long-term ramifications of your decision?
  4. Does your “gut feeling” about this case differ from what you think is right? If so, which would be your guide?

SAMHSA program and how the DNP can become involved?

SAMHSA’s programs and campaigns offer information, training, and technical assistance to improve the quality and delivery of behavioral health services across the nation.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a national organization that seeks to improve the behavioral health of the American community. Families and addicted citizens connect with the organization to learn more about the effects of substance abuse to avoid it. Addicted citizens also learn about treatment options through this organization (Welty et al., 2019). The organization invests in research that enhances information access to empower the community.

My professional experience with substance abuse is fulfilling and challenging in equal measure. As part of my work, I received special training on managing patients with mental and substance abuse problems, and these pieces of exercise made me a better-advanced practice nurse. I was able to identify this kind of disorder in patients of my community and some of my colleagues. However, the gaps in managed care and health infrastructure make the journey challenging. Therefore, there is a need for more efforts at local and national levels to address the problem.

//////////////////////////

Can you elaborate more on the SAMHSA program and how the DNP can become involved?
