Assignment 3

Prepare this assignment as a 1,500-1,750 word paper using the instructor feedback from the previous course assignments and the guidelines below.

PICOT Question 

Revise the PICOT question you wrote in the Topic 1 assignment using the feedback you received from your instructor.

The final PICOT question will provide a framework for your capstone project (the project students must complete during their final course in the RN-BSN program of study).

Research Critiques

Write an outline for Paper 4.  To do so, you should organize the information that will be in your essay.  The purposes of an outline are many, and it is a vital skill to be able to make an effective structure for your thoughts.  Outlines should save you time and effort, while also making your work far more effective.  That said, few students use them at all, or use them effectively.  That is why we are going to practice them here.

An effective outline should have a few basic elements.  To demonstrate these, I will do so in outline form.  You can watch this video for some helpful tips too.

1. Aspects of an effective outline
   1. Hierarchy of ideas (structure)
      1. Defines the function of each idea
         1. Topic sentence: defines a paragraph
         2. Major detail: supports the topic sentence and is usually a concept of some kind
         3. Minor detail: supports a major detail and is often a specific, concrete example, quote, statistic, or explanation
   2. Content: evaluating your ideas
      1. Order: there should be a logical way to connect the ideas
         1. Chronological: develops along a time line
         2. Spatial: develops in a physical space
            1. Example: from US regions—West, Mountains, Plains, Midwest, East Coast, South
         3. Importance
            1. From most to least important
            2. From least to most important
      2. Quantity: there should be enough evidence to clearly make your point
         1. Are there any concepts that need additional explanation or evidence to support?
         2. Are there any terms that the reader might not know that need definition?
      3. Quality: the points should be specific and easily understood
   3. Organization
      1. Unity
         1. Every point that is made pertains to the thesis
      2. Coherence
         1. All the points transition well
            1. Transitions are relationships, so there needs to be an obvious relationship between ideas

You should view the Outline Rubric before you begin this assignment.  You are also required to write two peer responses, which is a space that should be used to review each other’s work and make suggestions for improvement.

Please remember that the rubric is a qualitative evaluation of the discussion forum. Students will be expected to complete an original post and two responses.

For our 3rd big assignment, the general topic areas that we are exploring is: Politics (this can be local or national) /Community engagement / Climate and Environment …. Of course you don’t need to have your idea hit ALL these areas…. one area is enough.  What you are doing for this Essay/Project #3 is creating a project proposal.  You should think of this as a document that you are creating that LOOKS like a proposal. 

Here are the questions for you to address. You will want to do Rule of 3 for as many of these questions as possible :

1. Please describe in detail, what exactly is your project proposal about?
2. What need is being filled, or what problem is being addressed by your project? (What is the issue that you are addressing and why does it matter?)
3. Who is the audience for your project? (It usually doesn’t work to say “everybody”–that usually means you have not focused deeply enough on your project details.)
4. How will people interact with your project?
5. What makes your project innovative?
6. What materials will you need to  create your project? Be specific about types of materials and quantity of each.
7. What existing assets in the community can you  leverage to complete your project? Describe in detail how you will use the asset to execute your project. (This can be people you know, or community members, or organizations, or  other resources.)

Please provide data, case studies, past experiments/experiences, success stories from other situations, etc. to support why you believe your project will be successful.  This is the research part of this assignment.

Throughout the writing you will want to make it look professional, and add pics, charts, graphs, etc, where needed. You should think about using graphic software like Canva to make the final product look great.

Prepare a folder with your Matlab (m) and GUI (fig) files into zip folder

Description of Assignment

Develop a Matlab GUI that allows the users to label a connected component in the binary

image by clicking on one of its pixels.

Following are specific requirements:

– Your GUI must provide a button that allows the user to browse and select a binary image, and then show the selected binary image on axes.

– When the user clicks on a foreground pixel on GUI, you must use the position of mouse click as the starting point to implement the algorithm discussed in class to extract connected components.

– When the user clicks on a background pixel on GUI, there should be no change.

– You can use function ginput to read x and y coordinates of mouse click.

– You can use function imdilate to implement the morphological dilation operation.

– You must show the connected component output of the selected foreground object on a separate image next to the original image.

Read the connected component morphological algorithm in the word file attached (Dilation-Connected component algorithm.docx)
