QUANTITATIVE Journal Submit Article Reviews Here

You will review both quantitative and qualitative research.  The topic is up to you as long as you choose a peer-reviewed, academic research piece.  I suggest choosing a topic that is at least in the same family as your expected dissertation topic so that you can start viewing what is out there.  There are no hard word counts or page requirements as long as you cover the basic guidelines.  You must submit original work, however,  and a paper that returns as a large percentage of copy/paste to other sources will not be accepted.  (Safe Assign will be used to track/monitor your submission for plagiarism. Submissions with a Safe Assign match of more than 25% will not be accepted.)

Please use APA formatting and include the following information:

  • Introduction/Background:  Provide context for the research article.  What led the author(s) to write the piece? What key concepts were explored? Were there weaknesses in prior research that led the author to the current hypothesis or research question?
  • Methodology:  Describe how the data was gathered and analyzed.  What research questions or hypotheses were the researcher trying to explore? What statistical analysis was used?
  • Study Findings and Results:  What were the major findings from the study? Were there any limitations?
  • Conclusions:  Evaluate the article in terms of significance, research methods, readability and the implications of the results.  Does the piece lead into further study? Are there different methods you would have chosen based on what you read? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the article in terms of statistical analysis and application? (This is where a large part of the rubric is covered.)

One of the reasons for the rising cost of healthcare in the United States is the cost of prescription drugs. It is a complex problem and poses many ethical dilemmas for which solutions have yet to be implemented. Pharmaceutical companies set the prices for drugs and negotiate the actual payments with insurers. Insurers do not always cover the full cost of the drugs, leaving even insured patients to pay out-of-pocket for their prescription drugs. Pharmaceutical companies spend a lot of money on developing new medications to help people. The price of the medication must cover the upfront costs of drug discovery, development and testing, and manufacturing. It must also include the cost of the clinical trials required for approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before the medication can be sold.

Read the following 3 articles about the high cost of drugs and how the pharmaceutical industry sets prices:

After reading the articles, answer the following questions:

  • What may be legally permitted is not necessarily ethical. What are your concerns from an ethical standpoint about the pricing of prescription drugs and the new therapies based on precision medicine discoveries such as the gene therapy described in the first article?
  • Pharmaceutical companies must make a profit to stay in business, be accountable to their investors, and be able to continue developing new medications. However, would you have a personal moral conflict if you worked for a pharmaceutical company and learned that the company was charging a price that was much more than would cover costs of development, manufacture, and a reasonable profit?

2-2 Assignment: Writing Notes

For this assignment, you will use a guided prompt to write notes that will help you better understand how to approach the persuasive essay. As you follow the guide, remember to apply the information you have learned in Modules One and Two when discussing your issue. In Module Three, you will build upon these writing notes to prepare a more refined Writing Plan, which will help to prepare you to draft your persuasive essay.

I am adding the rubric and my journal

 1. Your argument is the main point that you are trying to make in your essay. It should clearly state your opinion on your issue. Describe the argument to be addressed in your persuasive essay, and include how the argument is connected to your major, the major you are considering pursuing, or your field of work.

 2. Key points are pieces of evidence that support an author’s main argument. What are three possible key points for your selected issue? How do they support your main argument?

3. Your audience is the person or people you are addressing in your essay. Who is the audience that will be reading your essay? What potential challenges will you encounter in supporting your argument with this audience?

4. Your goal is the end result that you wish to achieve in writing this essay. What goal do you hope to accomplish? What will this essay need to be successful?

5. Potential resources are pieces of evidence that could be used to support your argument. List potential resources that could be used as supporting evidence for your argument, and provide a brief description of each and how it will reinforce your argument.

6. Using the supporting resources you identified above, list each of the points of your argument with the resources that support them. This process will help you begin to form an effective essay structure.

7. Determine aspects of your argument that would be effectively supported with evidence. Defend your choices.

Week 6: Local Geographies

As your first post and start to our discussion for this week, please write a short but detailed two paragraph description of your neighborhood. What does it look like, smell like, sound like? What does your house or apartment look like? Do you have a backyard? How long have you lived there? Please use as many adjectives and descriptive details as possible. Think creatively. Help us to “see” your home. After you have done this, please then locate your neighborhood on the Seattle Civil Rights webpage: http://depts.washington.edu/civilr/segregated.htm (Links to an external site.)

  • Once you’ve spent some time exploring the website, please write at least one additional paragraph that addresses the specific legacy of your neighborhood as it relates to racial segregation. More specifically, what were the racial covenants (laws) of your neighborhood?
  • Your post should be at least three paragraphs (two paragraphs of description and one paragraph of historical legacy of your neighborhood).

Additional notes:

  • When assessing your neighborhood description, I will look for detailed descriptions as well as the depth of engagement with the second part of the assignment.
  • If your neighborhood is not on the website or you do not live in Seattle, YOU WILL NEED to do additional research on segregation policies in your city/county/neighborhood.
  • I am not looking for racial demographics (statistical breakdown of racial groups in your neighborhood). Rather I want you to try your best to understand/interpret how the legal system and its historical policies may have shaped where you currently live.
  • If you live in a close suburb of Seattle, you may also consider how Seattle policies on race affected the construction of the suburb.
  • If you used to live in the area but are now living somewhere else, please research the neighborhood you lived in while you were here.
  • You may also want to consider how U.S. government policies regarding indigenous land shaped where you live today. There are maps and more information here: https://www.washingtontribes.org/the-tribes-of-washington/ (Links to an external site.)  and here: https://ais.washington.edu/nations-and-tribes-washington-state (Links to an external site.)
  • Please respect your own comfort level when writing details about  your home/neighborhood. You can approximate your location and be vague about the things you don’t feel comfortable sharing.
  • Cite all sources.

1) 4/9/2021 – FORUM FRIDAYS: THE LITTLE ROCK 9 AND OPRAH Options Menu: Forum

In this week’s lecture, we discussed the modern Civil Rights Movement, which occurred during the second wave of the Great Migration. In our coverage, we examined the 1957 integration of Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, where 9 black teenagers known as the “Little Rock 9” faced opposition and daily harassment from classmates, teachers, parents and random white citizens. In 1996, the “Little Rock 9” met up with some of their tormentors from high school on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Please watch both clips below and give me your thoughts in 2-4 sentences. Would you forgive your tormentors if you came face-to-face with them years later?

2)4/2/2021 – FORUM FRIDAYS: ELEANOR ROOSEVELT Options Menu: Forum

In this week’s lecture we examined labor, voting and living in the urban North. As we learned, African Americans continued to face white supremacy as they migrated from the South to northern cities, including Detroit, MI.  We also learned about the white allies that joined African Americans in their fight for racial justice. One of the biggest white allies that the black community had was First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Please watch the short 5-minute clip below on First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt’s advocacy of racial equality and the Detroit Race Riot of 1943 and give me your thoughts in 2-4 sentences.

3)3/26/2021 – FORUM FRIDAYS: THE IMITATION OF LIFE Options Menu: Forum

In this week’s unit, we discussed the presence of African Americans in popular culture and Hollywood during the second wave of the Great Migration. Unfortunately, in the early days of Hollywood, blacks were relegated to playing stereotypical roles in TV and film. One such example came in one of Hollywood’s most successful films of all time, The Imitation of Life. This film presented two problematic black caricatures, “Mammy” and “The Tragic Mulatto.” Please watch the video clip regarding the film below and give me your thoughts in 2-4 sentences.

The pros and cons of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
This is an amendment to the Solid Waste Disposal Act of 1965. It establishes the national goals for the disposal and management of solid and hazardous waste in the country. One of the advantages of the Act is that it has promoted better methods of recycling waste as opposed to dumping thereby playing a major role in controlling the effects that arise due to the dumping of electronic waste that is very dangerous (Solid and Hazardous Waste, 2018). One disadvantage of the Act is that it allows for a very narrow interpretation thereby forcing many States to still rely on the Solid Waste Disposal Act.

Changes that can be made to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
The Act should be able to list more of the hazardous waste that is causing real danger to the lives of many people in the country. This includes the electronic waste that has become more popular due to the development of more technological inventions. Currently, it lists very few and this has made it very hard for the States and the Federal Government to regulate and deal with the issue of electronic waste effectively (Kahhat & Williams, 2012). With the inclusion of types of waste, the States and countries can be able to handle electronic waste disposal and recycling thereby promoting the effective conservation of the environment.

One action that individuals can take to influence policymaking with regard to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
In order to promote effective policy making involving the Act, individuals should be able to offer their input with regard to how the government should handle the issue of electronic waste in the country. The input is essential as the individuals are the heavy users of the waste in question and their involvement in the policy-making is critical and important. The process of providing their input should be conducted nationwide and the proposals are incorporated into the relevant law and policy.

Assignment: Personal Leadership Philosophies, NURS 6053/NURS 6053N/NRSE 6053C/NURS 6053C/NURS 6053A/NRSE 6053A: Interprofessional Organizational and Systems Leadership

Many of us can think of leaders we have come to admire, be they historical figures, pillars of the industry we work in, or leaders we know personally. The leadership of individuals such as Abraham Lincoln and Margaret Thatcher has been studied and discussed repeatedly. However, you may have interacted with leaders you feel demonstrated equally competent leadership without ever having a book written about their approaches.

What makes great leaders great? Every leader is different, of course, but one area of commonality is the leadership philosophy that great leaders develop and practice. A leadership philosophy is basically an attitude held by leaders that acts as a guiding principle for their behavior. While formal theories on leadership continue to evolve over time, great leaders seem to adhere to an overarching philosophy that steers their actions.

What is your leadership philosophy? In this Assignment, you will explore what guides your own leadership.

To Prepare:

  • Identify two to three scholarly resources, in addition to this Module’s readings, that evaluate the impact of leadership behaviors in creating healthy work environments.
  • Reflect on the leadership behaviors presented in the three resources that you selected for review.
  • Reflect on your results of the CliftonStrengths Assessment, and consider how the results relate to your leadership traits.
  • Download your Signature Theme Report to submit for this Assignment.

The Assignment (2-3 pages):

Personal Leadership Philosophies

Develop and submit a personal leadership philosophy that reflects what you think are characteristics of a good leader. Use the scholarly resources on leadership you selected to support your philosophy statement. Your personal leadership philosophy should include the following:

  • A description of your core values.
  • A personal mission/vision statement.
  • An analysis of your CliftonStrengths Assessment summarizing the results of your profile
  • A description of two key behaviors that you wish to strengthen.
  • A development plan that explains how you plan to improve upon the two key behaviors you selected and an explanation of how you plan to achieve your personal vision. Be specific and provide examples.
  • Be sure to incorporate your colleagues’ feedback on your CliftonStrengths Assessment from this Module’s Discussion 2.
  • Note: Be sure to attach your Signature Theme Report to your Assignment submission.
