Assignment: Assessing and Treating Patients With Impulsivity, Compulsivity, and Addiction – 5 pages

Assignment: Assessing and Treating Patients With Impulsivity, Compulsivity, and Addiction

Impulsivity, compulsivity, and addiction are challenging disorders for patients across the life span. Impulsivity is the inclination to act upon sudden urges or desires without considering potential consequences; patients often describe impulsivity as living in the present moment without regard to the future (MentalHelp.net, n.d.). Thus, these disorders often manifest as negative behaviors, resulting in adverse outcomes for patients. For example, compulsivity represents a behavior that an individual feels driven to perform to relieve anxiety (MentalHelp.net, n.d.). The presence of these behaviors often results in addiction, which represents the process of the transition from impulsive to compulsive behavior.

In your role as the psychiatric nurse practitioner (PNP), you have the opportunity to help patients address underlying causes of the disorders and overcome these behaviors. For this Assignment, as you examine the client case study in this week’s Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat clients presenting with impulsivity, compulsivity, and addiction.

  • –  1 inch margins all around
  • –  Times New Roman font
  • –  12 point font
  • –  double-spaced
  • –  left and right justification
  • –  be at least 5 pages in length.
  1. The report is not a summary. It is an opportunity for students to react to what they have read
and how it ties in with what they have learned in class. It is a reaction and synthesis paper,
so it is fine to use the first person.
  2. There is to be absolutely no quotation from the book or any other source. If there is anything in particular that students wish to bring to my attention, they can do so by referring me to the page(s) in question, e.g., “Lines 34-37 on page 67 made me think of …”
  3. Reports will be analysed for plagiarism using software available to faculty. If there is any plagiarism at all, the course grade will be an automatic F.

Detailed guide:
1. Do not write a book summary. What is required is your reaction to the book.
2. Stay on topic – the environment.
3. Do not use contractions (I’m, you’ve, we’ve). Spell them out.
4. Be careful with your usage of commas, semicolons and above all, apostrophes.
5. Do not say “I feel.” Use better terms of expression such as “I think” or “I believe.”

3. Has the book changed the way you look at yourself, your family and your impact on the

environment in general?
4. Has the book changed the way you look at your fossil fuel consumption, your lifestyle and your

contribution to global warming?
5. Has the book changed the way you look at fossil fuel consumption here in the US as well as for

the world at large?
6. Can you draw parallels between your life and things that are presented in the book?
7. What do you think about the future?
8. What do you think about the last chapter of the book (about what Bill McKibben proposes for

the future)? Comment on it in detail.
9. Overall, what do you think of this book?

10. Feel free to react to specific content in the book.

Remember that the report is worth 12.5% of your final grade, more than one letter grade. Do a good job. You need to stop and think about what you have read. Sloppy work will not earn a good grade. Your grade will reflect the effort you put into the assignment.

This project requires you to develop a personal budget from scratch using MS Excel. It is important that businesses and individuals track spending and create budgets for financial planning. How many of you have scribbled notes on the back of a scratch piece of paper that you throw away after writing bills for the month? In this scenario, MS Excel can be useful to create a budget that you can track electronically. Create your own worksheet that incorporates the major features that you have learned about in the first half of the course. Include income and expenses for all 12 months in the budget. All of this information should be fictitious. Please do not include any of your own personal information.

You will be graded on use of all features, professional impact, organization, creativity and overall impression. (Remember, creativity makes an impression!) Be sure to include these key features (and more): number formatting, wrapping text, merging cells, naming worksheets, formulas, functions, font styles and sizes, borders, adjustments to column width and row height, cell borders and fill colors, mathematical operators, and relative and absolute cell references. Assignment: Regulation for Nursing Practice Staff Development Meeting

Nursing is a very highly regulated profession. There are over 100 boards of nursing and national nursing associations throughout the United States and its territories. Their existence helps regulate, inform, and promote the nursing profession. With such numbers, it can be difficult to distinguish between BONs and nursing associations, and overwhelming to consider various benefits and options offered by each.

Both boards of nursing and national nursing associations have significant impacts on the nurse practitioner profession and scope of practice. Understanding these differences helps lend credence to your expertise as a professional. In this Assignment, you will practice the application of such expertise by communicating a comparison of boards of nursing and professional nurse associations. You will also share an analysis of your state board of nursing.

To Prepare:

  • Assume that you are leading a staff development meeting on regulation for nursing practice at your healthcare organization or agency.
  • Review the NCSBN and ANA websites to prepare for your presentation.

 https://www.nursingworld.org/

https://www.ncsbn.org/index.htm

The Assignment: (8- to 9-slide PowerPoint presentation)

Develop a 8- to 9-slide PowerPoint Presentation that addresses the following:

  • Describe the differences between a board of nursing and a professional nurse association.
  • Describe the board for your specific region/area.
    • Who is on the board?
    • How does one become a member of the board?
  • Describe at least one state regulation related to general nurse scope of practice.
    • How does this regulation influence the nurse’s role?
    • How does this regulation influence delivery, cost, and access to healthcare?
  • Describe at least one state regulation related to Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs).
    • How does this regulation influence the nurse’s role?
    • How does this regulation influence delivery, cost, and access to healthcare?
  • Include Speaker Notes on Each Slide (except on the title page and reference page)

assignment week 7

The client is a 34-year-old Pakistani female who moved to the United States in her late teens/early 20s. She is currently in an “arranged” marriage (her husband was selected for her when she was 9 years old). She presents following a 21-day hospitalization for what was diagnosed as “brief psychotic disorder.” She was given this diagnosis as her symptoms have persisted for less than 1 month.

Prior to admission, she was reporting visions of Allah, and over the course of a week, she believed that she was the prophet Mohammad. She believed that she would deliver the world from sin. Her husband became concerned about her behavior to the point that he was afraid of leaving their 4 children with her. One evening, she was “out of control,” which resulted in his calling the police and her subsequent admission to an inpatient psych unit.

During today’s assessment, she appears quite calm and insists that the entire incident was “blown out of proportion.” She denies that she believed herself to be the prophet Mohammad and states that her husband was just out to get her because he never loved her and wanted an “American wife” instead of her. She says she knows this because the television is telling her so.

She currently weighs 140 lbs., and she is 5’ 5.

Week 7 Assignment – Problem-Solving Essay: Part 1

The assignment is divided into two parts, the selection of a topic (Part 1) and the essay (Part 2) due in Week 9.

Instructions

Scenario 3:

You have two jobs: one during the week from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and the other on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. You are taking a class that meets from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. and a second class online. You have two kids: one who plays soccer and one who is in band. You have two elderly parents who no longer drive. You have a sibling living nearby, and your other sibling lives in another state. You have two papers due in your classes the same week that one of your children has a soccer tournament and the other has a band concert. You are coaching the soccer team and are in charge of fundraising for the band. You have a goal to complete your degree in two years. Your doctor tells you that your blood pressure, cholesterol, and weight are too high and recommends several medications that cost you nearly $200 per month after your insurance co-pay.

  1. Write a brief paragraph with your choice and define the problem in the scenario.

due today

In the last four modules, you have completed important steps toward building your final research paper and received feedback from your instructor to help you make changes and improve. Feedback is essential to the writing process; the more eyes on your work, the better it can become. So this week, you will submit your Milestone 5 assignment so that both your instructor and a peer reviewer can give you their feedback in Module 6.

 Step 1: Introduction Paragraph

For this assignment, you will draft the introduction for your final paper.

Your introduction paragraph should be approximately 150-200 words. It should:

  1. Grab the reader’s attention with an opening “hook” – this may be an interesting example, a quotation, an anecdote, or a question related to your topic
  2. Include your thesis statement as the last sentence of the introduction and underline it to make it clear to your reader. It’s expected that your thesis statement has changed and improved since you last submitted it in Milestone 3 based on your instructor’s feedback.
  3. Since you are drafting content that will become part of your final project, which is a formal academic writing assignment, you should avoid informal language (i.e. slang) and first-person pronouns (i.e. “I”, “me”, “my”)

Step 2: Outline

Once you have drafted your introduction paragraph, below it in the same document you will compose an outline of the body paragraphs and conclusion of your paper.

Your outline should include at least 3 body paragraphs supporting your thesis statement, 1 body paragraph to refute opposing perspectives, and a conclusion that reiterates your thesis statement. Each body paragraph should include 1-2 supporting details with the source or sources you plan to use as evidence for that detail. This way you will determine if you have enough evidence for your points, which will make it much easier to draft your full paper in the coming weeks or find additional sources if necessary.

Step 3: Reference List

Since you are including source information in your outline, you need to include a list of references at the end for all of your sources. This should be formatted in APA style, just as you did last week for Milestone 4. If your instructor offered corrections and feedback on your Milestone 4 references, make sure to make those changes before submitting Milestone 5

US Patriot Act and Anti-terrorism

We’ve focused on the domestic collection concerns related to stopping terrorism.   This week we will focus on international terrorists and the techniques of anti-terrorism which have come under question:  torture, kidnapping, and border control.  We have a couple of sections of the USA PATRIOT Act to review again this week.   Title II (Enhanced Surveillance Procedures) which is on page 7 and Sec. 236a (Mandatory Detention of Suspected Terrorists”, which is on page 80.  There are two additional brief readings on the use of torture and a 5 minute video of a writer who agreed to let himself be waterboarded.  The Extraordinary Rendition video is about the CIA kidnapping terror suspects for interrogation.    With regard to border control and concerns about terrorists coming across the border, there are two sources which contain a variety of items related to what happened at the border under Trump and what is happening today under Biden.

Share some thoughts on one or both of these concerns (use of torture or immigration/border concerns) with regard to what the US should or should not do in terms of anti-terrorism.   Is torture justified?  Legal?  Moral?   What about attempts to stop terrorists from crossing the border to the possible detriment of children and families trying to cross?   Do any of your research topics relate to these issues?   If so, consider adding that to your initial post.

Cite all sources used.   If you use items from the immigration/border resources provided, make sure you note which of the items within the larger item you used.
