Short story interpretation W6

  • Minimum of 3 outside resources (Resources may include .edu or .org website and/or peer-reviewed journal articles from the TU library.)

Introduction
For this essay, take a number of elements into account. We have made it through the majority of the course and have studied all sorts of literary elements, forms of stories, types of symbols, and one author influencing another. Walker chose to set her story in the past – in a setting more recent, but truly not all that different from Zora Neale Hurston’s “Sweat.”

Activity Instructions
In an essay, explore the extent to which you see a direct influence between Hurston and Walker’s writing. Consider the themes of race Walker explores. Does opting to write characters in the setting Walker chose somehow get to the racial themes more immediately? Consider the character Maggie. Why does Walker choose to saddle this character with such a drastic disfigurement? Does it have a symbolic impact that would not work with other characters or could Walker have given this affliction to Dee instead?

Find outside sources about how the African American experience changes each generation and how consecutive generations handle such changes. There are many great non-fiction sources, including essays, articles, and interviews with Alice Walker and Zora Neale Hurston that would be of use.

Personality Analysis

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review Chapter 3 in your textbook and the HumanMetrics Jung Typology Test website, and read the Choca (1999), Bracken-Minor & McDevitt-Murphy (2014), and Westen (1998) articles.

For this assignment, choose a historically important figure or a character from a movie, novel, or TV show, then address the following in your paper:

  • Examine your figure or character from the perspective of Jung’s theoretical approach to personality and describe your chosen figure or character based on the dichotomous facets of personality as defined by Jung.
  • Evaluate the current Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality instrument, which is based on Jung’s theories, and provide your impression of your chosen figure or character through the major facets of the MBTI.
  • Analyze how ethical issues might affect the implementation of MBTI personality assessment in the setting native to your chosen figure or character.
  • Assess the MBTI and its use to provide results on your chosen figure or character and describe the efficacy and reliability of this assessment as it relates to your chosen person.
  • Summarize and present your opinion about how well this theory describes the person in question. Provide research to support your claims.

The Personality Analysis

business analysis term paper

Each student will write a company profile of a company of choice except CitiGroup. The company profile is to be between 10 and 15 double-spaced pages (use APA style), not including appendices and bibliography. You are to use citations in the text. Think about the key areas in the core: Management, Marketing, Economics, Quantitative Analysis, MIS, and Accounting. A good business analysis will hit on all of these areas. It is to include:

  1. the mission and vision
  2. short history of firm
  3. major competition
  4. market position – what problem is it solving, who are its competitors, how is it doing in comparison to its competitors, what can it do better, what can it capitalize on
  5. apparent strategy – which of the strategies that we discussed is it following, is that a good strategy for it, why do you think that
  6. critical factors for success in the industry – how do companies become successful in the marketplace, what has made it successful in the past or, if it’s not successful, what should it have done to be more successful (note – this is the only place in the paper where you’re allowed to unspill the milk!)
  7. Management Information Systems – what systems does the company use and how do those systems add to or detract from the company’s success? How does technology impact the company?
  8. SWOT — what does it do well internally, what does it do poorly internally and what internally can it fix, what opportunities does it have externally and what threats to its existence appear in the external environment?
  9. Performance analyses (various topics) of the company – financial and other. Note, analyses mean ANALYSES WITH EXPLANATIONS, not just numbers strung together.

Your conclusion would be whether the strategy is successful or not (with appropriate reasons for each) and any comments and recommendations (including why). Upload your business analysis to Safe Assign on Bb by clicking the link provided for Business Analysis Paper and Business Analysis Presentation. An excellent student business analysis is provided in below. Note as you do, however, that it did not require an MIS analysis as yours does. Look under this assignment and you will find a Business Research Guide and Internet Sites for Business Research. Also go to the ECSU Library web site, click on Online Resources, checkout ABI/Inform and other business research databases (e.g., Hoovers) available to you. Make sure that you download a 10-K report or an Annual Report for your corporation. This is a legal document and should not include any ‘hype’ by the firm. You should be citing from this in both your presentation and your analysis document. I also strongly suggest that you download a company report (generally available from the company’s website, and yes, they generally have some ‘hype’ and paint a pretty picture of the firm’s future). You should also be citing from this document in both presentation and analysis. I am available for help on your topic and report.Blackboard has the rubric that is being used to evaluate these papers. Business strategy courses often refer to the Fortune 500 ranking within Fortune magazine. These are large firms and are important in the U.S. economy. However, most of the attention is given to the top 50 or top 100. There is more information available on the Fortune 500 (defined by Fortune magazine) companies. Success of the firms from this 500 group may depend on the changing business/political/financial/ international/technical environments.Remember, for this paper you are not just reporting facts, you are also providing ANALYSIS and SYNTHESIS of the facts you have uncovered. This means you need to explain both what the analysis says and what that means for the company. I also want you to anticipate how the changing environments (mentioned above) will or could challenge, help, or hurt these firms. Yes, you will be dealing with the unknown; but this is what your challenge will be in your decision making in an increasingly faster and more complicated business environment. That is part of management.  Each of you will do a power point presentation of your project. The presentation should provide insights about how relevant theories can be applied to problems in real organization. Be well organized, coherent, and attract and maintain the attention of the audience. Each of you will have 15 minutes each to present to the class.

Biological Criminal Behavior

There are offenders whose criminality is based on biological factors. This may or may not be known to the offender prior to a deadly incident like the examples in this assignment. Biological anomalies are not common, but in many cases, the results are catastrophic. The cases outlined for this assignment are some of the most notorious. This assignment will help you develop a better understanding of mental illness and physiology as factors when measuring criminality.

Choose a criminal offender from the list below, or one of your choosing, whose criminal behavior was connected to a biological abnormality (physical, psychological, or chemical):

  • Andrea Yates and the documented evidence of psychiatric issues, including postpartum depression and psychosis, prior to murdering her five children.
  • Jeffrey Dahmer and the documented evidence of psychiatric issues prior to murdering 17 men.
  • John Wayne Gacy and the documented evidence of psychiatric issues prior to murdering 33 young men and boys.
  • Charles Whitman murdered 16 people, including his wife and mother. An autopsy suggested Whitman had a brain tumor pressing on his amygdala, a region of the brain crucial for emotion and behavioral control.

Create an 8- to 10-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation with speaker notes in which you:

  • Summarize the case.
  • Discuss the genetic or physiological evidence that supports the notion that biology played a key role in explaining the offender’s criminality.
  • Research the behaviors that constitute psychopathy and discuss in detail the specific behaviors demonstrated by the offender that align (or not) with behaviors indicative of a psychopathic individual.
  • Identify if the positivist perspective applies to your chosen example. Explain your answer.
  • Identify if the punishment rendered in your chosen example best supports the classical or neoclassical perspective of crime. Explain your answer.

Include at least 2 academic references and cite your sources according to APA guidelines.

  • Evaluate any competitors’ existing production in the chosen country.
  • Assess sales forecasts in the selected country by using the Federal Reserve of St. Louis’s FRED data, the CIA World Fact Book, World Bank data, World Trade Organization, or other appropriate sources you might find on the Internet or in the University Library.
  • Categorize the type of economy that exists in your selected country as closed, mixed, or market.  What is the difference between these types of economies and how might this affect your expansion?
  • Assess how your chosen country’s current credit market conditions, especially interest rates and the availability of financing, affect demand for your product or service and your planning or operating decision for your production in that country.
  • Analyze the role of the selected country’s central bank on that country’s economy.
  • Compare the availability, education, and job skills of the work force in the selected country. Discuss any additional challenges of international production, such as political stability, availability of government financing or other incentives, threat of capital controls, and exchange rate risks.
  • Explain any additional supply chain challenges you anticipate if attempting to make your product in your chosen country and selling the product in other countries.
  • Based on the data gathered and analysis performed for this report write a conclusion in which you:
    • Create business strategies, including price and non-price strategies, based on your market structure to ensure the market share and potential market expansions and explore global opportunities for your business in a dynamic business environment and provide recommendations.
    • Develop a recommendation for how the firm can manage its future production by synthesizing the macroeconomic and microeconomic data presented.
    • Propose how the firm’s position within the market and among its competitors will allow it to take your recommended action.
    • Recommend strategies for the firm to sustain its success going forward by evaluating the findings from demand trends, price elasticity, current stage of the business cycle, and government.
    • Recommend any comparative advantages your company will have over competitors currently operating in that country, and defend your position, either for or against, expanding your company’s production into your chosen country based on your research.

Integrate with the Week 3 Individual Assignment, and incorporate corrections and suggestions from the instructor’s feedback. The final report should be a minimum of 2,800 words.

Cite a minimum of three peer reviewed sources not including the textbook.

Include all peer-reviewed references and government economic data sources/references from Week 3.

Format your assignment consistent with APA guidelines.

Aligning Operational Needs with Business Strategies

Assignment Content

  1. Use your selected company from Weeks 1-2 for this week’s assessment. (Samsung)

A primary technique of deeper analysis of an organization is the Porter’s Five Forces Model. This technique is often used when looking at your competitive advantage. Looking at your competitive advantage is important to aligning your operational needs with your business strategies.

Demonstrate an understanding of concepts by analyzing and applying information. Do not just report on what you read or your experience/opinion. Use minimum of one business journal article as citation and reference. Do not rely on company website as only source. Attend live session or watch video for information on paper and APA.

Write a 1050- 1500 word paper in APA format for the Samsung company. Align the operational needs with business strategies based on your analysis. Include the following:

    • Explain Porter’s Five Forces and analyze how company applies 5 forces
    • Analyze the effectiveness of the leadership model the company is currently using
    • Consider the current leadership style or styles in place at the company.
    • Determine the effectiveness of the leadership style/s and whether an alternative style/s would be more impactful.
    • Assess how to determine effective leadership. What makes a leader effective or ineffective?
    • Consider sources of managerial power when leaders are effective.
    • Recommend the following actions:
    • Leadership model changes
    • Actions (2-3) needed to align operational needs with business strategies identified in Week 1
    • Cite and reference one business journal article plus the textbook. Do not rely on company website.

Format your citations according to APA guidelines. Utilize the Center for Writing Excellence and the Reference and Citation Generator for assistance with APA style formatting. Review sample paper posted in Announcements.

Submit paper as Word document attachment; do not submit as link, in PDF or write entire paper in submission area.

Discussion Post Finance due by July 4th at 4PM Eastern time

n your initial response to the topic you have to answer all questions.

1) For your first topic in this discussion I would like for you to briefly review either your personal experiences and/or the financial literature to identify and present a description of one actual capital project/product success and the reasons attributed to the success.

Remember this is a one to two paragraph exercise – do not go overboard – a few hours research and summation is all that’s required. I am interested only in your short, concise description of the project and the major reasons you believe it was successful.

2) In your response please provide financial information regarding the project (what is available): initial outlay, projected cash flows, dollar profits.

3) Synthesize your one-paragraph position on what 3-5 specific factors you believe most likely to contribute to capital project analysis success.

4) Reflection – the students also should include a paragraph in the initial response in their own words reflecting on specifically what they learned from the assignment and how they think they could apply what they learned in the workplace.

You are expected to make your own contribution in a main topic as well as respond with value added comments to at least two of your classmates as well as to your instructor.

public health

Read the scenario below and complete the assignment as instructed.

Scenario

In Community X (population 20,000), an epidemiologist conducted a prevalence survey in January of 2012 and reported an HIV prevalence of 2.2%. Over the next 12 months, the department of health reported an additional 50 new HIV cases between February 2012 and January 2013. The total population stayed constant at 20,000.

Part 1

  1. How many people had HIV in January 2012? Present or describe the formula you used to arrive at your answer.
  2. Calculate the incidence rate assuming no HIV-related deaths over the 12-month period. Present or describe the formula you used to arrive at your answer. Be sure to clearly indicate the numerator and denominator used in your calculation and include an appropriate label for the rate.

In a summary of 200-250 words, interpret the results and discuss the relationship between incidence and prevalence. Discuss whether or not the epidemiologist should be concerned about these new HIV infections, assuming a previous incidence rate of 0.5 per 1,000 person-years prior to this updated risk assessment.

Part 2

A rapid test used for diagnosing HIV has a sensitivity of 99.1% and a specificity of 90%. Based on the population prevalence of 2.2% in 2012, create a 2×2 table showing the number of true positives, false positives, false negatives, and true negatives. Calculate the positive predicative value and negative predictive value for this test. Refer to the “Creating a 2×2 Contingency Table” resource for guidance.

In 200-250 words, discuss whether or not the epidemiologist should recommend this test as part of a universal HIV screening program. Provide rationale for your recommendation applying the positive and negative predictive values. Present or describe the formula you used to arrive at your answer.

University Database

  1. University Database
    Overview
A prestigious university has recently implemented a consolidation strategy that will require it to centralize their student records. In order to move forward, the local university will need to develop a data model that will retain student records and perform various data extract transform and load (ETL) processes. Imagine that you have been hired as a database consultant to assist in the development of a data design strategy for the student records.
You met with various university subject matter experts and have determined the following after performing various business analysis processes:

    • Faculty groups are divided by core competencies that the university offers. For example, there are groups such as the Art Faculty, Computer Technology Faculty, Language Faculty, and Science Faculty. Each faculty member has an assigned Dean and is designated to teach at one particular campus and school. They are able to teach as many courses as required.
    • Courses are categorized by course code and title. Certain courses have prerequisites and the university has asked for this to be cataloged as well.
    • There are various schools within each campus. For example, the Los Angeles campus holds the following schools: School of Science, School of Law, and School of Computer Technology. Additionally, each school offers different professional study programs, such as Forensic Computer Science, Marine Biology, Business Management, and Civil Engineering, to name a few.
    • The study path for students requires that they be enrolled in a specific professional study program. The professional study program requires the students to complete a specific set of core courses. The university also requires that an online grade book be available. The online grade book should show grades awarded to students for specific courses and the term they completed the course.
    • The university identifies each student by their name, date of birth, social, and professional study program.
    • Instructions
Using these findings, write a 3–4 page paper in which you:
    • Analyze the university’s requirements and provide a proposal to organize all the required data elements. The proposal should include the following:
      • Provide an entity relationship model (ERM) that will describe the data structure that will store all data elements. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
      • Describe any assumptions or limitations for each relationship. For example, professors are able to teach more than one course, or students can only be enrolled in one program.
    • Create the primary key and foreign keys using a UML class diagram for each table.
    • Suggest at least four types of business intelligence reports that could help the university in course management, student enrollment, or historical tracking. Support your answer by providing specific business functions that these reports could be used for to assist executives of the university.
    • Consider outsourcing the functions above as an alternative for development of the database. Research the Internet and other media sources for vendors who develop registrar and school management database systems.
      • Suggest three vendors that developed and are employing efficient registrar and school management database systems and support your reasons to choose from one of these three vendors.
      • Compare and contrast the key aspects that each system offers. Examples of system aspects include but are not limited to cloud based, pricing model, open source, et cetera.
    • Go to the Strayer Library to locate at least three quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as quality resources.
    • Note: The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length. Include charts or diagrams created in any chart or drawing tool with which you are familiar. The completed diagrams or charts must be imported into the Word document before the paper is submitted.
    • This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:
    • Propose a database design.
  2. By submitting this paper, you agree: (1) that you are submitting your paper to be used and stored as part of the SafeAssign™ services in accordance with the Blackboard Privacy Policy; (2) that your institution may use your paper in accordance with your institution’s policies; and (3) that your use of SafeAssign will be without recourse against Blackboard Inc. and its affiliates.
