Assignment Details

Racial and ethnic diversity is increasing in the United States, and healthcare organizations have been working to decrease inequities in access and quality of healthcare. Delivery of healthcare services must be responsive to an individual’s communication needs, preferred language, health-literacy level, and cultural beliefs and practices. To help healthcare organizations establish guidelines for meeting the needs of a diverse patient population, the Office of Minority Health of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) developed the Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) standards. The CLAS standards are designed to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequities by showing respect for the culture and language preferences of patients.

Review the standards on this Web site.**

Consider the CLAS standards as you watch the following case study videos:**

Choose 1 video case study as the basis for your writing assignment, and answer the following questions:

  • Briefly describe what type of healthcare inequity was depicted in the video.
  • Which CLAS standards are or are not demonstrated in the video? How would meeting the standards reduce health inequity in the example that you chose?
  • What could the healthcare organization do better to provide patients with the best care and eliminate the health inequities illustrated in the video?
  • If you were faced with similar types of situations in the future, explain how you would be better prepared to handle them appropriately after viewing the standards.

Module 05 Project – Action Plan

Module 05 Content

  1. Barbara schedules a meeting with a core group of clinic managers. The purpose of the meeting is to review the strategic plan and to gather additional feedback from the managers. Barbara is aware of the importance of diversity within the organization. Diversity and inclusion is particularly important because of the population served by UCCO facilities. However, she realizes during the meeting that there may be some issues with diversity and culture. Furthermore, how diversity and culture impact team performance. Several managers made comments regarding distribution of work and employee perspectives based on stereotypes. She also found out that there are many personality conflicts and issues with subordination. Barbara encountered the conflict and degradation comments, first-hand during the meeting.

Visit the Rasmussen online Library and search for a minimum of 3 articles covering diversity and culture and teamwork.

For this project assignment on UCCO complete a minimum of a 3 page report to address management of change with strategic planning and with the following concepts:

    • What is the role of executives in the process of change management and strategic planning? How do issues with diversity and culture relate to change management?
    • Why is diversity inclusion important? What are the benefits? Specifically address UCCO purpose for diversity.
    • Discuss how working with others can help with respect for diversity and respect for diverse perspectives.
    • What are the challenges and benefits of employing a diverse workforce?
    • What should Barbara’s plan be for encouraging teamwork among a diverse workforce and ensuring that employees make meaningful and valuable contributions to team projects and tasks. Incorporate Barbara’s personal experience with the team of clinic managers.
    • Remember to integrate citations accurately and appropriately for all resource types; use attribution (credit) as a method to avoid plagiarism. Use NoodleBib to document your sources and to complete your APA formatted reference page and in-text citations.

ARP STEP 3: Secondary Source Integration

Here is where the magic starts to happen. You have revised your PSA; you have found great sources; you have read these great sources and they have given you great ideas. You are now ready to put it all in a pot and mix it up.

As the source party handout explained, your sources really need to have roles, and they need to converse with you. A common anxiety with student writers is that your secondary source says what you think already, so you aren’t sure what to do but plop in some quotes and move along. But this is not so: you are entering into a scholarly conversation, and you want your voice to be heard. When you use a quotation from an expert in the field, it is to legitimize your own claims, or to extend your claims, or even to challenge your claims. It’s important to not think about your writing in black and white: there is no one true argument, but a multitude of perspectives.

Expectations of the secondary source integration:

  • 1,500 words, properly formatted
  • Uses three secondary sources, one being peer-reviewed
  • Writing from PSA must be revised
  • SSI writing must be integrated into the existent PSA writing, not just pasted on the end of the PSA
  • Uses MLA style, which includes parenthetical citations directly following a quotation, and block quote format for quotations of 4+ lines. ALL of your MLA questions can be answered on Purdue OWL. Read it and double and triple check your work. Style and formatting are important in writing.
  • Puts sources in conversation
  • Introduces quotations and then follows them with an analysis and application of the quote
  • Maintains your critical voice
  • Includes a works cited page

You will need to find sources that substantiate/complicate your claims in your primary . source analysis, as stated in the prompt. the step one arp is attached

Ways to Prevent the Development of Cancer- Discussion

Please review and fix accordingly.  make correct in-text references to all the sources.

The criteria of preventing the development of cancer under review include; early diagnosis, chemoprevention and biological prevention. In all the articles, early diagnosis was found to be highly effective in preventing the development of cancer. Chemoprevention was found to be highly effective in all the articles except the one written by sun and Pradella, where the criterion was found to be partially effective. The criterion of biological prevention in preventing the development of cancer was found to be partially effective in all the articles except the one written by Sun, and Pradella. The initially stated hypothesis of the study is, “it is believed that good nutrition and other factors can prevent the growth of cancer cells”. However from this research, it was found that the most effective way of preventing cancer development is early diagnosis, chemoprevention to a lower extent and biological prevention to the lowest extent.

Of the criteria to prevent breast cancer, early diagnosis was found to be the most effective, followed by chemoprevention and the least effective was biological interventions. This seems to counter the initially stated hypothesis, which states that good nutrition and other factors can prevent the growth of cancer cells. Therefore, early diagnosis seems to be the best criteria of preventing cancer because it improves the outcomes of cancer by providing of care at the earliest stage and hence it is the most important strategy in fighting and preventing cancer.

Sociology Discussion response 1

Kindly read and respond to the two discussions below, respond with 100 or more words each

1. In my perspective, Functionalism is the way society is and how we can all benefit from one another to coexist and thrive, “seeing society as a living organism”, while Conflict Theory seems to be the results of certain interactions within smaller groups, leading to a larger group (Interactionalism)  and how that collective is seen as society institutions like family,  government, education, religion, media. All the concepts are seen to be  collective intertwined within another, as if each concept is dependent  upon another to thrive, understand, and exploring the various effects  upon citizens. The example of the “helicopter in the sky” for Interactionalism  helped me better understand the concept itself. Observing how a smaller  collective interacts and then noticing how those interactions come into  play within society as a whole is an overall perfect example of the  concept itself.

The most useful concept from the major sociological perspectives would be Interactionalism.  Beings thrive on interaction, especially physical as a basic need to  survive – socially. With the personal experiences I have encountered,  the way an individual interacts within a small group will grossly  dictate and determine their actions moving forward. Think about how  children are raised within the home and how the interactions within  their family members not only shapes them as whole person but how they  interact and treat others, to their beliefs and understandings, to how  education and government is seen through their perspectives, and how the  individual fits into the living organism known as society. The pillar  of the foundation of sociology and what is shown to be the most  effective is human interaction. As a college graduate, the specific  interactions made with certain individuals helped elevate or descend the  social ladder within the realm of networking. As the phrase states,  “it’s not always what you know, but who you know”.

2. The functionalist and conflict perspectives address a much bigger  picture than the interactionist perspective. The interactionist  perspective places importance on the everyday interactions between  individuals and their environments or each other, applying what is  observed in those interactions to understand social behavior. The  functionalist and conflict perspectives look at the big picture and how  humans act as large groups, often relating that back to the behavior of  individuals and what to do as an individual. The main difference between  the conflict and functionalist perspective is their view on social  change. The functionalist perspective often argues that, for better or  for worse, any given aspect of society exists because it serves a  function that ensures the survival of that society. Therefore, it is a  fruitless effort to advocate for drastic and sudden societal change. Any  societal change will come naturally as a society sheds aspects of it  that are no longer contributing to its stability. A good analogy to  understand the functionalist perspective is in section 1.3 of chapter  one of the third edition of the Openstax online textbook. It compares  each aspect of society to “[h]ow each organ works to keep your body  healthy (or not).” (Openstax 1.3) The  conflict perspective argues that the natural state of society is  inequality, oppression, and class conflict. Therefore, sudden social  change is necessary to achieve an ideal society because it disrupts the  natural state of society.

One example of the functionalist perspective is observing education  as an aspect of society that contributes to the stability of a society.  The government pays for public education, and public education increases  the affluence of individuals, which leads to more taxes for the  government. The stability of the society is upheld because the  government gains financial stability and the people reap the benefits of  an education.

I think that the conflict and functionalist perspectives are the  most useful. If I was to pick between the two, I think the conflict  perspective is the most useful in analyzing society because it advocates  for change, while the functionalist perspective does not. This means  that you can use what you learn employing the conflict perspective to  impact society, but the same cannot be said for the functionalist  perspective.

assignment 45

Goal:

apply the reading to a real-world event/issue or creative text of your choosing.

Format

The length for the application analysis is roughly 2.5 pages single-spaced followed by a Works Cited.

Assignment Description:

  1. The first paragraph of your application analysis is basically like an intro to an essay. Start by introducing the reading, author, and summarize the reading  (eg. In Homi Bhabha’s Location of Culture, Bhabha proposes/describes/analyzes/argues…). All summary and paraphrasing should be in your own words. Be sure to identify the different and specific elements of the reading that you’ll draw on to analyze your event or text. Next, identify which real-world event or text you’ll apply the reading to. Summarize the event or text in a few sentences and identify/explain any specific elements that are crucial to your analysis (like specific historical context, characters, scenes, interactions etc). Conclude by identifying what you’ll focus on in your analysis. This is loosely like a thesis, but can be more general– it’s explaining how we can use the reading to understand a particular event or a text.
  2. Your next paragraph will summarize, in your own words and in greater detail than the intro, the main idea in the reading that you’re making use of. The key here is “in your own words.” These readings have been written on hundreds of times, so it’s easy to find other people’s examples of how to explain and simplify them.  You can reference and read other summaries of these readings to make sure you’re on the right track (that’s totally fine), but be sure to cite them if you draw on them in your analysis. Each sentence should be uniquely summarized and paraphrased by you. Summary can include broad examples to help explain more clearly some of the more complex ideas. Note that if you do reference someone else’s summary, ensure you draw from a scholarly reader or academic website; there are so many terrible and incorrect interpretations of the concepts out there that will really undercut your work.
  3. Your next 3-5 paragraphs will apply the concept to your chosen real-world event/example or a text. Each paragraph should focus on a specific element of the reading. You’ll need to quote directly both from the reading and from summaries of your chosen event, or quote from your chosen text. For instance, if you choose a real-world event, you might quote from an article or someone’s online description of what occurred. If you choose a film as your text, you’d quote directly from that. You can apply the reading to three different instances or scenes, apply three elements of the reading to one scene or character in a text, explore how the event shows different sides of the reading..it’s really up to you how you want to structure these paragraphs.
  4. You’ll end with a really brief conclusion that reiterates why this text and concept work together, and explains how the text helps convey elements of the concept.
  5. Self-Analysis and Grading. Please include a self-analysis of your work that identifies areas you’re most proud of/confident in and areas that you’re most unsure about/feel like could use additional work, as well as your grade range based on the below.
*Completing all the above and 3 paragraphs in section “3” (the actual application of the concept) is a grade in the B range *Completing 4 paragraphs of application is a B+/A-, with the determining factor being the strength and clarity of your summary in paragraph 2.
*Any additional application beyond the minimum 4 paragraphs of application is a grade in the A-range. You could choose to apply another reading from the course to your chosen event or text, or apply the reading you choose to another example– it’s entirely up to you.
*2 paragraphs completed is a grade in the B-minus range, and any other missing material will similarly reduce the grade range
