Studying Religion

Write a 525- to 750-word paper that addresses the following topics:

  • What is essential (in the practices and beliefs) for a tradition to be called a religion? Illustrate your points by referring to the commonalities of at least 2 different religions. Include specific examples from the various religious traditions described in the Week 1 reading, such as a belief in one God or many gods and goddesses, the removal of one’s shoes before entering a place of worship, bathing and baptism as methods of spiritual purification, or refusing to eat certain types of meat. You may also include examples from your own religious tradition or another religious tradition with which you are familiar.
  • What place does religion have in making ethical decisions? Include specific examples of situations involving ethics faced by members of a religion today. Reflect on your own spiritual beliefs. How have your ethics been influenced personally or professionally? If you hold no spiritual beliefs, consider how individuals you may know or work with are faced with ethical decisions that are influenced by their beliefs.
  • Consider what you know about religion today. What are some modern issues that may be affecting religious traditions? How are these religions handling these issues?

First student,

Having two teenagers both in high school, I know all too well the issues with social media, the internet and not being able to disconnect with their peers. To avoid issues that come with having a cell phone and constant access to the world in our home cell phones are put up once everyone is home and no one is allowed on them for the remainder of the evening. Neither one of my children have any type of social media as I do not feel they need it. I have allowed them to have Instagram at one point and my daughter summed it up very well the pressure of having to post was constant. So neither one of them have Facebook, Instagram, Snap Chat, Twitter nothing and they both say they don’t miss it nor do they even have a desire for it. I think that not allowing children constant assess to the world via cell phones, computers etc, would absolutely limit the amounts of cyberbullying. Another way to combat cyberbullying is parent educating their children on what you post on the internet is for the world to see and never goes away. The video and pictures that children post are at times excessively much, and open themselves up for becoming victims of cyberbullying like the example in the video clip. My number one solution for combating cyberbullying is no eliminate or limit the child’s ability to be on social media and the internet.  As for the case involving “Michelle Carter” and “Carter Roy III,” I most definitely believe Ms. Carter contributed the Mr. Roy’s death she did nothing to stop it in fact she sent multiple messages encouraging him to harm himself.  As for the schools responsibility for cyberbullying I do not believe they are responsible unless it is taking place on school grounds. A simple solution to this issue is parents need to be monitoring their child’s cell phone and computer content.

Second student to respond to,

Cyberbullying has become a major issue in school. Kids are bullying other students to where students want to harm themselves at home. I do believe it is the school responsibility to ensure the students safety even off campus. Most bullying starts at school. If the teachers and any school staff notice the behavior I believe they should handle it to put a stop to it. Teachers can sit and talk with the student or mention the bullying to the student’s parent, make them aware of the situation. Teachers should even contact the bully’s parents so they are also aware what their child is doing. Follow up on the student to make sure they are okay. Some children are scare to reach out or wont reach out. They rather have someone come to them for help.

Cyberbullying remind me of a show I watch on Netflix called “13 Reasons Why” an teen age girl in high school commits suicide in her home because of they way people have treated her. She was too scared to reach out and things were too much for her to bare. Before she committed suicide she made 13 tapes of the people that did wrong in her eyes. She made the tape so they could know who and what play apart of her death.

Bullying is a very serious matter today. Kids don’t know any better or don’t know what it can lead to. In Cater’s case, I believe she didn’t mean to say things she said to her ex boyfriends death. I think she wanted to say things to make him mad and didn’t expect him to react on it. It was wrong of her to say those things to him. She should have help him seek help. She could have called the law enforcement or his family/ friends warn them that he’s having suicide thoughts and he may harm his self. I also believe she provoked him out of anger, but again it was wrong of her doing so.

when someone is experiencing bullying or suicide thoughts no matter what age its best to take it serious. its not good to ignore or provoke it. You don’t know exactly what’s going on in their end. Sometimes people just need a shoulder to lean on or someone to tell them that everything is going to be okay.

MAT125 Project 2 Regression Analysis

You may collect your own data, find a data set online (ESPN, etc), https://dasl.datadescription.com/ (type in regression) or you can also use the data set which in the folder for project #2. The data set must have two quantitative variables and have at least 25 data values. If you are using the data set in the project #2 folder you must use all 50 values for each variable.

The printouts to hand in are: (Make sure you know which variable is the explanatory variable and which variable is the response variable before you start the analysis.)

1. The data set itself.

Data> Display Data

Select the data values

2. Scatterplot

Graph> Scatterplot> Simple

Select the response variable for the y-variable Select the explanatory variable for the x-variable

3. Fitted straight line

Stat> Regression> Fitted line plot

Select the response variable (y)

Select the explanatory (predictor) variable (x)

4. Residual plot of residuals versus fits.

Stat > Regression > Regression > Fit Regression Model

Put in Responses (the dependent variable, y) and Continuous Predictors (the independent variable, x) In dialog box click on graphs, then check the box for residuals versus fits.

You need the graph as well as the Regression Analysis in the session window.

5. Regression Analysis Statistics along with statistics for each individual observation

Stat> Regression> Regression > Fit Regression Model

In dialog box click on results, where it says fits and diagnostics change the drop down menu to “For all observations”.

You only need the Regression Analysis in the session window.

From the printouts, answer the following questions on a separate piece of paper:

1. A description of your data set. i.e where you got it, how you collected it, why do you think there might be a

linear relationship between the two variables? Include the URL.

2. What is your explanatory variable and what is your response variable?

3. What is the least squares regression equation?

4. Give a predicted value of yˆ for a value of the explanatory variable which is not an actual observation in your data set.

5. What is the coefficient of determination, r2. Explain the meaning of r2 in relation to your analysis.

6. What is the correlation coefficient, r? Interpret r.

7. Based on the residual plot, does there seem to be a linear relationship between the two variables you are analyzing? Explain.

8. For your tenth observation, what is the residual?

9. Which observations are outliers and/or influential observations?

If there are none, state that there are no outliers and/or influential observations.

For each outlier, give the value of the explanatory variable, the value of the observed response variable and the standardized residual score.

For each influential observation, give the value of the explanatory variable and the observed response variable.

(Note: You need to look back at your data to find the explanatory variable for the observation that is an outlier or influential observation.)

Capstone Project Topic Selection and Approval

In collaboration with the approved course preceptor, students will identify a specific evidence-based topic for the capstone project change proposal. Students should consider the clinical environment in which they are currently employed or have recently worked. The capstone project topic can be a clinical practice problem, an organizational issue, a leadership or quality improvement initiative, or an unmet educational need specific to a patient population or community. The student may also choose to work with an interprofessional collaborative team.

Students should select a topic that aligns to their area of interest as well as the clinical practice setting in which practice hours are completed.

Write a 500-750 word description of your proposed capstone project topic. Include the following:

1-The problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project that will be the focus of the change proposal.

2-The setting or context in which the problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project can be observed.

3-A description (providing a high level of detail) regarding the problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project.

4-Effect of the problem or issue, intervention, quality initiative, educational need, or collaborative interprofessional team project.

5-Significance of the topic and its implications for nursing practice.

6-A proposed solution to the identified project topic with an explanation of how it will affect nursing practice.

You are required to cite to a minimum of eight peer-reviewed sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years, appropriate for the assignment criteria, and relevant to nursing practice. Plan your time accordingly to complete this assignment.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Hospitality Management

Part 1

Carter Deli Restaurant – The New Benefit Plan

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to learn about the employee benefit issues in the hospitality industry.

Skills: As a result of completing this assignment, you will practice written communication. Access and collect the needed information from appropriate primary sources to support your answers to the Carter Deli benefit plans.
Knowledge: Students will gain knowledge of employee assistant programs and benefits in the hospitality industry.

Task: In order to complete this assignment:

Read the following case:
Carter Deli Restaurant has traditionally provided only legislatively required benefits for its employees. These include participation in the state’s unemployment compensation program, Social Security, and worker’s compensation (which is provided through the same insurance carrier that insures the company for such hazards as theft and fire). The principals of the firm – Jack, Jennifer and their families – have individual family-supplied health and life insurance. At the present time, Jennifer can see several potential problems with the company’s policies regarding benefits and services. First, she wants to do a study to determine whether similar companies’ experiences with providing health and life insurance benefits suggest they enable these firms to reduce employee turnover and perhaps pay lower wages. Jennifer is also concerned with the fact that at the present time the company has no formal policy regarding vacations or paid days off or sick leave. Informally, at least, it is understood that employees get one week vacation after one year’s work, but in the past the policy regarding paid vacation for days such as New Year’s Day and Thanksgiving Day has been very inconsistent. Sometimes employees who had been on the job only two or three weeks were paid fully for one of these holidays, while at other times employees who had been with the firm for six months or more had been paid for only half a day. Jennifer knows that this policy must be made more consistent. She also wonders whether it would be advisable to establish some type of day care center for the employees’ children. She knows that many of the employees’ children either have no place to go during the day (they are pre-schoolers) or have no place to go after school, and she wonders whether a benefit such as day care would be in the best interests of the company.

Answer the following questions:
1. Draw up a policy statement regarding vacations, sick leave, and paid-days off for Carter Deli Restaurant.  Cite at least 2 references for this question.
2. List at least two advantages and two disadvantages (you can always find more) to Carter Deli Restaurant of providing its employees with health, hospitalization and life insurance programs.  Cite at least 2 references for this question.
3. Describe the steps Jennifer should go through to determine whether a day care center would be advisable for the company?

Please put the number of the question you are answering before your answer.

Be sure to put the reference list in your assignment using APA formatting.

Please cite your source. The minimum information that must be included in the citation is the following:

  • If printed or electronic journal article: Title of Article, Title of Journal, Date and Issue number (if available).
  • If web site: Title of article or company and website address.

Criteria for Success: A successful assignment will have the following characteristics:

  • Sources must have a publication date within the last 5 years.
  • Sources will be cited at the end of your discussion using APA format.
  • Proper grammar, spelling, and professional language are used.

Sociology Paper (Need in 30 hours)

I will be asking you to write a college-level argumentative essay. This should relate to current issues and/or social problems. Please put your ideas into an organized analysis. Hence, your paper should be mostly argumentative and not a review or summary script! Naturally, this topic will illustrate how society is affected and how members of society may react differently to the social forces of culture, institutions and structure. Remember, since this is an argumentative paper, you should use the “I think” format and explain what you believe to be true. You are encouraged to limit your sources. Use your textbook, one extra article or source, and only 1 statistical chart/graph (My suggestion is that you utilize the GSS for graphs). The minimum word-count requirement for this paper is 800 words. Do NO REPEAT THE QUESTIONS BELOW IN YOUR ESSAY FOR WORD-WOUNT REASONS!!!

If you get stuck, try to address some of the questions:

1)What are some of the arguments (pro vs con) made about your topic. 2)Do you agree or disagree with some of the standard arguments Yes or No? Why?

3)Why do you think so many Americans are ideologically split on this issue (If  this is the case)? How is it part of or related to the broader Culture War (if you think it is)?

4) Try to look at this debate through a sociological lens. Apply any of the sociological perspectives (Functionalist, Social-Conflict, Symbolic, Feminist) while analyzing this specific debate. What do you think society should do about this issue?

Important: Please cut and paste pie charts/graph directly into your essay.

Write a minimum 200-word interpretation of a visual artifact (pie Charts) related to paper content (charts/graphs are in link above.) Use the charts in the link that best helps to support your argument/perspective. State whether you are analyzing a pie chart, line graph or both, describe the color, do the colors represent certain data.  Meaning, tell me what the pie charts/graph are telling you. What are the numbers telling you? (Discuss all the numbers/percentages within pie charts. I will take off 10 points if you do not discuss every set of numbers you use! How do the percentages in the chart/graph support your argument? What are the implications- (What conclusions can be drawn from these statistics/percentages?)

(For help on this go to tutorial on using GSS data below!)

Second, you must also apply one Sociological theory (see list below) in your paper to defend your argument (Conflict/Critical, Functionalism, Symbolic Interactionism, Feminist theory). Failure to include one perspective will translate into point deductions.

week 1 Discussion 1 due 10 hours

Culture plays a primary role in how we communicate with each other. As human services workers, we often encounter individuals whose cultural perspective is very different from our own. Knowing the key elements that differentiate cultures, as well as our own cultural orientation, is important in being able to communicate effectively. In this discussion, you will be describing aspects of cultural difference that may impact interpersonal communication. You will also be reporting on your own cultural orientation.

Read Chapter 2 from The Interpersonal Communication Book. In addition, answer the fourteen questions on your cultural orientation found on pp. 35 – 36.

Reflect on the findings of the cultural orientation test that you completed. How did this help you to understand your own cultural orientation? Were there some elements that really made sense to you while others did not? How did this compare to what you read about differing components of a cultural orientation? How would you describe your own specific cultural orientation (not just as the United States or your country or origin)?

Initial Post: Prepare a 300-word minimum reply that sufficiently addresses each of the items below:

  • Based on what you read in the textbook, describe at least three factors can that be used to understand a culture.
  • Describe the impact of culture, as a whole, on communication.
  • Discuss your own cultural orientation in relation to these three factors.
  • Explain how understanding a cultural orientation may aid in interpersonal communication in a human services work setting. Please use at least one example in your explanation.

Your initial post is due no later than Day 3 (Thursday) of the learning week, and at least two substantive replies of at least 100 words to two different peers will be due no later than Day 7 (Monday) of the learning week.

Guided Response: Consider ways in which you might like to interact with your peers. For example, what similarities or differences do you observe regarding how your peers perceive culture? Can you elaborate on the examples shared by your peers with your own examples or insight? Please be courteous and adhere to the rules of respectful engagement throughout your replies.

Self-Assessment Tests

ONE PAGE~~~~~5 paragraph

Please begin this assignment by reviewing the section concerning Self-Assessment Tests on pages 16-21 in the course syllabus.  This section covers information on your rights as a participant in the Self-Assessment Tests and what to do if you would prefer to skip one or more questions on a given test, plus guidelines on writing a suitable response.  See also Appendix B in the syllabus for helpful examples of excellent SAT responses.

With all of the self-assessment tests from the book, there are no correct answers in terms of right or wrong. Be as honest as you can in answering the questions so that you can better understand yourself and your behavior related to leadership.

The link to the electronic survey is located at the end of this section.

ANALYSIS:

What is your leadership potential score? In a one-page (maximum) argument, explain in more detail the meaning of this score to you. Keep in mind that larger organizations need “people” leaders and “individual contributor” leaders or a combination of the two. Some organizations even have separate “career tracks” that depend on a person’s preferred leadership style.

“People” leaders enjoy working with people in team settings and/or as individuals. Literature in the management area contends that there will be a “people” leadership void as the Baby Boomers retire in the next five to ten years. This may indicate an abundance of opportunities for those who diligently work to develop and/or sharpen their leadership skills.

Sometimes, people have a skill(s) that are rare in the workplace. Some people with a specialized skill set are not interested and/or capable of managing others. However, “individual contributors” are just as valuable to organizations as “people” leaders and they need to be recognized and rewarded for their work. “Individual contributors” tend to manage critical organizational processes in functional areas like finance and/or accounting or technical areas like scientific research and/or computer information technology.

Keeping these two types of leadership style in mind, what type of leadership role(s) do you see yourself working in for the future? Take a look at Chapter One for additional information regarding this self-assessment test. Make at least three assertions about the meaning(s) of this self-assessment test to you and support them with examples. Write a convincing case that presents a strong defense for your argument.

Database Modeling and Normalization

  1. Database Modeling and Normalization
    Overview
Imagine that you work for a consulting firm that offers information technology and database services. Part of its core services is to optimize and offer streamlined solutions for efficiency. In this scenario, your firm has been awarded a contract to implement a new personnel system for a government agency. This government agency has requested an optimized data repository for its system, which will enable the management staff to perform essential human resources (HR) duties along with the capability to produce ad hoc reporting features for various departments. They look forward to holding data that will allow them to perform HR core functions such as hiring, promotions, policy enforcement, benefits management, and training.
    Instructions
Using this scenario, write a 3–4 page paper in which you:

    • Determine the steps in the development of an effective entity relationship model (ERM) diagram and determine the possible iterative steps and factors that one must consider in this process, with consideration of the HR core functions and responsibilities of the client.
    • Analyze the risks that can occur if any of the developmental or iterative steps of creating an ERM diagram are not performed.
    • Select and rank at least five entities that would be required for the development of the data repositories.
    • Specify the components that would be required to hold time-variant data for policy enforcement and training management.
    • Diagram a possible 1:M solution that will hold salary history data, job history, and training history for each employee through the use of graphical tools. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
    • Plan each step of the normalization process to ensure the 3NF level of normalization using the selected five entities of the personnel database solution. Document each step of the process and justify your assumptions in the process.
    • Diagram at least five possible entities that will be required to sustain a personnel solution. (Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.) The diagram should include the following:
      • Dependency diagrams.
      • Multivalued dependencies.
    • Note: The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length. Include charts or diagrams created in any chart or drawing tool with which you are familiar. The completed diagrams or charts must be imported into the Word document before the paper is submitted.
    • This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:
    • Create a database using normalization techniques and logical/physical design best practices.
  2. By submitting this paper, you agree: (1) that you are submitting your paper to be used and stored as part of the SafeAssign™ services in accordance with the Blackboard Privacy Policy; (2) that your institution may use your paper in accordance with your institution’s policies; and (3) that your use of SafeAssign will be without recourse against Blackboard Inc. and its affiliates.
