week 13 discussion sustainabiliy

In our module this week we review articles from both VOGUE and BAZAAR highlighting the fashion brands that are no longer using fur in their collections. We recently learned that Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s are going fur free. Please read the article here  Link (Links to an external site.)   and share your thoughts as you answer the following questions:

1. The article tells us that Macy’s and Bloomingdale’ s will be the first major department stores to ban fur and will also be some of the first in the fashion industry to “bridge the fur-free movement from luxury fashion to retail.” Does this surprise you? Should retailers continue to offer fur for those  who want to buy/own it?    Please be detailed in your post.

2 ” While animal rights activists championed Macy’s move, some speculated that the company was simply seeking to wrap up a business model that was no longer commercially successful for them.” What do you think? Why is the retailer waiting  for 2021 to stop selling furs?  Profitability or ethics?

3. I rarely, if ever, read about designers or retailers removing leather apparel and accessories from collections/merchandise offered. Why is a leather jacket (made from a baby lamb) acceptable while a fur coat is not? What are your thoughts?

Marketing consumer behavior

Multi-national companies have to be cognizant of the effects of culture on the 4Ps, when operating in several countries and cultures. How has such an awareness influenced the marketing mix for top consumer products brands of the world? You can discuss how the brands you have chosen have made adjustments to their 4Ps so that they can market successfully in different cultures. In other words, what kinds of changes did these brands have to make to the marketing mix in order to be internationally successful? Choose any two of the top 20 brands of the world and submit a 1500-word document that spells out the impact that culture has had on these brands.

Go to https://www.forbes.com/powerful-brands/list/#tab:rank for the top brands of the world. Remember, that we had a discussion in class about the difference between “global companies” and “international/multinational companies” when you choose the two specific brands that you want to discuss. Use your judgment in deciding whether the brand is a global brand or an international brand.

 Assignment 1—Comparative Analysis

A comparative analysis refers to the comparison of two or more ideas, whether that is models, theories, or investments.

Because of the remote location of your current job, your employer has offered all employees the option of using $5,000 towards purchasing a car. You have decided to buy a car and realize the need for a comparative analysis to help you choose between buying a new car, buying a used car, and leasing a car. Complete a thorough comparative analysis of these options indicating your decision and the reasoning behind it.

Assignment 2—Financing College Education

A key factor in deciding on which college to attend is how to pay for it. In recent years, the cost of college has steadily increased significantly, forcing students and parents to become more creative in planning for college.

Discuss the options available to finance a college education including scholarships, grants, federal aid, and loans. What advice would you give to someone who is about to start his/her college education? How many loans should one get? How should paying for a college education be part of one’s financial plans?

Diversity and Human Rights Paper:Just Mercy

Purpose. The purpose of this assignment is to help students explore their own background and begin to examine how race, culture, and socioeconomic class may affect your practice skills with your clients, in a more advanced way than in previous classes, as well as to examine racial and class disparities that affect social, economic and environmental justice issues in the country. Other aspects of cultural identities including gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, educational level, or religion may be included. This paper should be about 8-10 pages double-spaced, with APA 6th ed. citations and should incorporate ideas from the required readings especially the Stevenson memoir on correctional justice.

You need to have an introductory paragraph that explains the intent of the paper to focus the paper for the reader. This is an analysis, not a description. An analysis answers the questions of why and how something has meaning or has occurred. Don’t forget to use a concluding paragraph that summarizes the main points. Each paper should include:

  1. Discussion of universal human rights and how they are relevant to the memoir. Examine racial and class disparities in relation to government and institutional policies as reflected in the Stevenson memoir.
  2. An understanding of how Stevenson developed his own identity and how that related to his lifelong commitment to human rights and social, economic, and environmental justice? How did he respond to oppression and social justice disparities?
  3. What have you learned from this autobiographical assignment? Discuss how your identity memberships (e.g., race, class) will inform your social work practice and how you might respond to discrimination, oppression and social justice disparities on both micro and macro levels?
