    Emma and Isabella attend the front office at an urgent care facility. They have worked together for over 5 years and enjoy collaborating on projects. As their manager, you have asked them to work together to create a team training on effective communication in the workplace.

    Emma feels that it is important to provide hands-on learning (e.g., role play) while Isabella feels that a lecture is the most appropriate format for this team. Emma defends her point by saying that her sister has been a teacher for 10 years, and she has proven that hands-on learning increases the engagement and likelihood of remembering the training material.

    Isabella feels that Emma does not account for her 10 years of experience in the medical office and voices her disgust with Emma and her lack of appreciation for her experience. Isabella storms off and leaves Emma to finish the work.

    Emma approaches the manager and complains that she has been left to complete the training because Isabella refuses to talk or work with her.

Write a 750-1000 word essay about a topic in which you argue for the existence of a particular phenomenon by stating a generalization about the topic. Then you will support that generalization (in the form of a thesis statement) by choosing to write a single-example illustration essay or a multiple-example illustration essay (see Unit V, Lesson 2). The essay should be written in the style and form described within Unit V.

Purpose: Throughout Unit V, we have discussed the conventions of the illustration essay. The purpose of this assignment is to measure your mastery of those conventions by putting your knowledge to practice. In a larger context, the purpose of writing an illustration essay is to convey an idea to the reader by providing illustrations (examples) that will solidify the existence of a topic.

Process: For the illustration essay, you will complete the following steps:

Using the UMGC library and the Internet to find scholarly and credible information on your topic, you are to write an essay that summarizes what the social science literature says about your topic.
Your essay should be about 1500 words and follow APA style (7th edition). Be sure to use in-text citations and include a reference list.

Copy and paste your case study at the beginning of your document to provide the context for your research essay. (This will not count towards your word total.)

Your essay should be written in your own words and you should always cite any ideas that come from another source. Do not use quotations or copy verbatim from another author.

Paula Plaintiff is shopping at her favorite store, Cash Mart. She is looking for a new laptop, but she can’t find one she likes. Then, realizing that she is going to be late for an appointment, she attempts to leave the store, walking very fast. However, before she can leave, she is stopped by a security guard who accuses her of shoplifting. Paula, who has taken nothing, denies any wrong doing. About this same time, Geoffrey Golfer is hitting golf balls in his backyard. Geoffrey decides to break out his new driver and hits a golf ball out of his backyard into the Cash Mart parking lot. The golf ball hits Paula Plaintiff on the head and knocks her unconscious just as she is leaving the store.
