Drama Essay: Character Analysis

Drama Essay: Character Analysis

By the due date assigned, submit your three-paragraph essay as a Microsoft Word attachment.

Directions
For this short essay assignment, you are writing an analysis of one of the characters in The Glass Menagerie. This character analysis essay should be at least 500 words and three paragraphs in length.

In this short essay response, be sure that you have the following: an introductory paragraph with a thesis statement, at least one body paragraph with supporting reasons, examples, and quotations from the play, and a concluding paragraph. The thesis statement should represent your main argument analyzing the character you have chosen.

You may use the brainstorming questions below to generate ideas, or you may refer to the Week 3 discussion prompt for a refresher on ways character is revealed. It is fine to continue with your character analysis that you started this week in the discussion area for this essay assignment.

Brainstorming Questions
Select one character from The Glass Menagerie. Consider these questions as you think about your character: What does he or she want? What conflict does this character encounter? How do they attempt to get their desire? What prevents them from achieving it? Does the character change or grow? What is the resolution by the end of the play for this character? After thinking about these questions, develop your thesis statement.

The Thesis Statement
To develop your thesis statement, choose two or three descriptive words to define your character. From these words, what main point could you argue about the character in an essay? This opinion or judgment is your thesis statement. Once you have your thesis, choose supporting evidence (quotations and examples from the play) for the body paragraph.

Reminders

  • Use APA style, and include a title page, proper font and spacing, in-text citations, and a separate references page.
  • Do not use any outside sources to complete this response; rely only on your own insights.
  • Quoted material from the play should not exceed 25% of the essay.
  • You may exceed the minimum word and paragraph count.

  • Detail how CMS can expect facilities to focus on quality and outcomes relating to long-term care, based on the statistics from the Director of Administration on Aging.
  • Describe how these changes will impact the delivery of long-term care.
  • Explain what policies you would develop and/or consider using as the Director of CMS to address the predicted changes.
  • Detail what regulatory measures you would create and/or enforce as the Director of CMS to address the predicted changes.

Cost Concepts Case Analysis

Assignment Content

  1. James Branch is the president of Root Corporation, a public traded corporation. At the beginning of the year, Branch incorrectly predicted that company’s earnings would increase by 25% by end of year. Unfortunately, sales have been less that forecasted, and in the final quarter, Branch determined that significant action need to be taken in order to meet earnings projections.

Therefore, Branch directed all expenditures that could be postponed to the following fiscal year be postponed including purchases from suppliers, repairs and maintenance on factory equipment, employee training, advertising and travel. Branch expects substantial inventory on hand at end of year and encouraged its controller to scrutinize all costs and reclassify as many period costs as product costs.

Write a two-page analysis that addresses the criteria below. In addition to the two pages of content, include a title page and a reference page with a minimum of two scholarly references. Note, websites are not scholarly references. The analysis should be written in APA format, following the guidelines outlined, and should not exceed four pages total.

Content should be organized as follows:

    • Write a brief introduction of the situation.
    • List the different costs the president requested be postponed to the next fiscal year and describe their classification and impact of postponing the costs on the earnings of the corporation.
    • Explain the effect of reclassifying period costs to product costs on the earnings of the corporation.
    • Explain whether you believe the president’s actions are ethical. Address the postponement and reclassification of expenses separately. Why or why not?
    • Conclusion that summarizes key points presented in the paper.

Write a MEMO as if you were a Human Resource manager.

Memo 1: Positive Message

Assignment: As the Human Resources Manager at XYZ Industries, Inc., it is your pleasure to announce the addition of annual performance-based bonuses for mid-level managers and above. These bonuses will require annual performance reviews to discern the amount of the bonus. Draft a memo explaining this scenario to this specific group of employees.

The format of your memo tells your employees a lot about your sensitivity and professionalism. Since you do not want to upset any employees unnecessarily, you should also be conscious of your wording when explaining culturally-sensitive subjects. Pay particular attention to your memo’s margins, line spacing, font type and size, and placement of memo parts such as the addressees, subject line, and body.

· Address the memo to all mid-level managers and above at your company.

Recommended Organization

Header: Begin your memo with the four standard memo heads (Date, To, From, Subject).

Body/Discussion: In the first paragraph of the body, start off with the good news.  Memos do not begin with greetings or salutations. Explain what factors could have contributed to this new development (i.e. increased sales, raising stock price, etc.) and why the decision was made to reward employees with the surplus funds.

The second paragraph is where you explain the new process that the employees can expect. Outline the way that reviews will be handled, and by whom. Feel free to be creative (yet somewhat realistic) when outlining how the performance scores will translate into bonuses (i.e. tier system, seniority, contribution value).

In the third paragraph, be sure to validate any anticipated concerns employees may have about this adjustment. Explain the greater benefit in the long-term this decision provides and conclude your memo by indicating how the reader may contact you if he/she has any questions. In general, this section should be “short & sweet,” making sure that the employees know what is expected of them.

On the following spreadsheet, you will find a story about the origin of the Merfolk as told to me by an old Merfolk.

The story is 48 sentences long. You will be asked to translate only 8 of them, but which 8 depends on your discussion group, according to the chart in the document above. Look at Column B (“Discussion Group”). Find the section containing your word group number and do those 8 lines.

For example, for lines 1 to 8, Column B says “1”. This means that anyone in Discussion Group 1 would translate ALL of those lines.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU SELECT THE CORRECT 8 LINES. WE WON’T GRADE YOUR ANSWER IF YOU CHOSE THE WRONG SET OF 8. EMAIL ANDREW IF YOU ARE CONFUSED.

A note on the vocabulary: I have not indicated the noun class of each noun. When you encounter a noun in the story, it is up to you to determine the most appropriate interpretation for its case ending.

For example, you may encounter the case ending -la, which is either Nominative, Non-Merfolk, Close to the Sea, Non-Dangerous OR Genitive, Merfolk, Non-Dangerous. (This is a situation commonly encountered in natural languages. For example, in Czech, -a may be feminine nominative or animate masculine accusative.)

You will have to use the grammar, the context, and your knowledge of cases to decide which interpretation is correct.

Additionally, some non-Merfolk nouns have been classified as “Merfolk” due to their importance or close association to the Merfolk (as per the grammar) and thus have Merfolk noun class case endings in the story.

BUS 345 PHILISOPHY PAPER

Our faith is not an “add on” faith, where we live our lives and then add on some “Christian-y” things, like church or mealtime prayers. Our faith is foundational to everything we are—it is the true basis for our thinking and, therefore, our actions. Thus, our actions as leaders in business are rooted in our faith, in the Scripture that informs our Christian development. What does this look like in your life? How is your leadership, as a follower of The Way, different from those who do not know the eternal God? This paper will address your personal leadership style, as a created being of God learning His ways.

To complete this paper, it will be important to understand your own leadership style, tendencies, and approaches, so that you may best know how to improve your leadership and build a complementary team around areas that do not reflect your strengths. The course textbook by Daft not only explores theories and practices of leadership, it also includes a series of self-assessments to help one understand his or her personal leadership tendencies and styles. For this assignment, you will complete at least 5 of the textbook’s self-assessments of your choice to provide a better understanding of your leadership. Since we are influenced by many in our leadership understandings and beliefs, you will also conduct research to support your beliefs about leadership. With this material in hand, you have the information you need to develop the paper. The paper must include the updated bibliography page with at least 8 scholarly references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible.

The Personal Philosophy of Leadership Paper will follow this format:

  1. Title Page
  2. Abstract
  3. Body of the Paper (1,500–2,000 thorough and convincing words)
    1. Introduction
    2. Part 1: The Christian Leader: What does       it mean to be an effective Christian leader? Use Scripture and your       research to lay the foundation for effective service as a leader.
    3. Part 2: My Leadership Style: Describe       your personal leadership style and tendencies, citing at least 5 assessments       from the course textbook as part of your explanation. What are the       strengths and weaknesses this style presents? Any examples for your       style? Can you connect the research from Part 1 to your styles and       tendencies in Part 2?
    4. Conclusion
  4. Reference page

2 page essay

For this assignment, you will conduct research to determine the number of fires in your area by occupancy and then develop a report, in essay form, to present to business owners on that occupancy type for prevention purposes. • Explain the cost of noncompliance in fires, both economic and social.
  • Outline a proposed public education initiative to educate the business owners and political leaders on how to prevent and maintain fire safety in the area. Ensure that you identify methods to measure the effectiveness of fire and life safety and public education programs.
  • Explain to the stakeholder the importance of instilling a positive fire reaction.

Your essay should be two pages in length. This does not include the optional cover page and required references page. Adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment. APA formatting, however, is not necessary. A minimum of two references are required for this assignment.
