Nursing Knowledge and Theory Development

Healthcare and the field of Nursing are changing.  Hospitals continue to experience nursing shortages, budget and funding restrictions, an aging population, technical advances, and increased nursing autonomy.  According to research, highly qualified and educated nurses are linked to lower hospital mortality rates and better quality of care, leading to higher patient satisfaction rates(Aiken et al., 2016).  The more a nurse knows, the better the institution operates overall.  The nursing theory defines nursing in every aspect of the profession. “A theory can be described as a set of established statements or rules that can be tested.” (Hardy, 1978).  Nurses are constantly testing established statements or rules.

Nursing Empowerment

Applying nursing theory can benefit me personally. I’ve already noticed that I am already feeling empowered during this course. It’s about being given an opportunity, the resources, and the support that I have from my family and colleagues that have personally helped me.  According to Kanter’s theory of Structural Empowerment, nurses who are given the opportunity, have access to pertinent information, support for their professional activities, and the resources to succeed are the ones who will create a professional environment and utilize their empowerment in a positive manner (Hayes et al., 2014). As a whole, a nurse can thrive in the right environment for them.  The great thing about nursing is that we can take our skills and profession in many different areas.  If nurses aren’t feeling support, they are free to seek other opportunities that best suit their professional goals.  In week one, I honestly didn’t know what to expect.  Could I go back to college at my age? I’ve already done so much professionally. Was this even obtainable?  After only one short semester, I feel so confident and empowered.  I can do this.  I have the support, the resources, the opportunity, access to the necessary information, and success.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone here as we graduate in 2022.

My Greatest Impact Nursing Theory

The nursing theory I feel will have the most significant impact on my professional practice is the Theory of Successful Aging.  Since I am in the anti-aging business, I think this theory will significantly impact my professional practice.  The Theory of Successful Aging uses the five essential categories or processes that characterize caring (McEwen & Wills, 2019).  These five processes consist of knowing, being with, doing for, enabling, and maintaining belief.  As my patients seek anti-aging treatments, I realize it is essential that I remain aware of the five categories to help them be their best version of themselves without compromising their integrity and natural beauty.

Procurement Process

This week I want you to discuss… you, and your buying habits! Length and format: 800 words

Topic:

Congratulations on the decision to buy a new car! As you’ll see, when it comes to procurement, we follow the same sets of rules as do most companies! Well, at least we should be following some rules, as so should many of the companies that currently don’t. By identifying what we need and how it fits our needs, when it’s needed, etc., we can much more easily define what we want and what we’re willing to pay.

So first, some rules: We need to know the 10 Steps of the Procurement Cycle, and they are:

1) Need for a particular good or service 2) Customer’s specification
3) Source of supply
4) Negotiation

5) Contract / Purchase Order
6) Delivery Schedule / Expediting 7) Receipt of Goods / Services
8) Inspection of Purchase
9) Invoice Approval / Payment 10) Procurement Records

Apply these steps to your purchase of the new car. Tell mewhy you’re going to purchase that car,
and how each step would apply. For example, Step 5 defines the need for a Purchase Order. To talk to

this step, tell me if, when you go to the dealer, you will bring a list of what you want on your vehicle? Maybe you’ll have some payment terms already defined because you have a pre-approved loan from your bank. Tell me what you’ll bring.

Have some fun here. Perhaps you “own” a business and the new vehicle is a truck for deliveries, maybe heavy machinery for construction. Use your imagination! Apply the procurement process to your thoughts to help ensure you’re making the right decisions.

SYNTHESIS OF EVIDENCE SUBSTANTIATING POTENTIAL INTERVENTIONS

Instructions

Find and synthesize evidence that supports potential interventions to mitigate the negative effect of the organizational challenge you identified in Week 5 as the focus of a prospective doctoral capstone project. Then, substantiate the applicability of the interventions to the organization, populations served, or both. In addition, substantiate the efficacy of the improvement intervention you think is the best candidate for a capstone project.

Requirements

The assignment requirements, outlined below, correspond to the scoring guide criteria, so be sure to address each main point. Read the performance-level descriptions for each criterion to see how your work will be assessed. In addition, note the additional requirements for document format, length, and supporting evidence.

  • Summarize a search strategy for evidence supporting improvement interventions for one organizational challenge.
    • Summarize the significance of the identified challenge and need for improvement.
    • Briefly describe your search strategy and methods.
      • Include total search results, results by search term, and both inclusion and exclusion criteria results.
  • Synthesize research evidence to support potential improvement interventions for one organizational challenge.
    • Describe how the evidence from the studies you selected applies to the challenge.
    • Compare evidence from the studies that supports potential interventions.
    • Discuss the importance, relevance, and significance of specific aspects of the evidence related to potential interventions.
  • Substantiate the applicability of potential improvement interventions to the organization or population.
    • Describe ways in which potential interventions specifically apply to the type of organization or the characteristics of a population.
    • Compare anticipated outcomes of potential interventions with the mission and goals of the organization and the expectations of stakeholders.
    • Substantiate that the potential interventions can be implemented at a specific organization to facilitate improvements that mitigate the negative impact of the challenge.
  • Defend your choice of one evidence-based intervention, appropriate for a prospective doctoral capstone project, to mitigate the negative effect of the organizational challenge.
    • Describe the quality and level of evidence supporting your chosen intervention.
    • Present an argument to support a doctoral capstone project focused on the implementation of your chosen intervention.
  • Synthesize multiple sources into key themes or findings.
  • Use paraphrasing and summarization to represent ideas from external sources.

Performance management

Performance management – 4pages-apa-due 4 feb

Review Chapter 2 and then read the scenario below.

Scenario

Suzan has worked for Organization ABC for one year. During her 30-day review, Suzan received amazing scores from her supervisor. During her 60-day review, Suzan’s performance was deemed as acceptable, but her ability to communicate with her colleagues was lacking. During Suzan’s 90-day review, Suzan’s supervisor, at the time, expressed that her performance needed serious improvements. Unfortunately, Suzan’s supervisor noted the following:

  1. Suzan      did not provide her colleagues with messages from customers and vendors.
  2. Suzan’s      phone skills were ineffective, especially when interacting with customers.
  3. Suzan’s      temper was a concern and she often raised her voice when she became      frustrated.

You have been hired to replace Suzan’s previous supervisor. Between Suzan’s 90-day review and presently (her annual review), you have noticed that Suzan’s performance still is a problem. Before her departure from the organization, Suzan’s past supervisor stated, “Suzan is nice; however, she is a horrible communicator. I cannot work with her, as she is such a challenge to deal with… Good luck, as Suzan is one of the worst employees of Organization ABC.”

During your first week in your new role as supervisor, you met with Suzan to understand more about her performance. She stated, “I am a hard worker; however, I only was told what I was doing wrong. I am willing to learn. Can you help me become the best employee for Organization ABC? I want to succeed in this role.”

As a supervisor, you know that you have various responsibilities. One of your responsibilities is to address performance deficiencies. Although Suzan was provided with a job description, which included detailed information about the critical nature of communication in her role, she needs additional support.

Examine pages 79 and 80 in your textbook. Then, create a plan, specific to Suzan’s needs, detailing how you will utilize the following to ensure improved performance:

  1. Observation      and documentation
  2. Updates
  3. Feedback
  4. Resources
  5. Reinforcement

For example, when thinking about observation and documentation, what might you do to keep track of Suzan’s performance? Why? When thinking about updates, how will you keep Suzan updated? Explain and justify your rationale for each of the five components and why you made the recommendations that you provided.

Your well-written paper should meet the following requirements:

  • Be      4-6 pages in length, which does not include the title and reference pages,      which are never a part of the content minimum requirements.

There are many connections between evidence based practice and the quadruple aim. Nurses are at the bedside and have multiple and unique opportunities to improve patient and population outcomes.

Evidence based practice has improved patient experience by providing up to date care from research. It has improved the patient’s outcomes and reduced medical errors. Procedures have advanced and surgical pain has been lowered by putting patients at the center of care (Berwick,Nolan, & Whittington, 2008) . Population health all over the world has been improved by evidence based practice research improving the populations’ life expectancy and health improvement. Evidence based practice has also worked on reducing disparities (“Overview,” 2019).

Evidence based practice has helped lower the costs of health care without sacrificing the service and excellent outcomes that patients now experience. Evidence based practice has reduced the per capita cost of health care while still improving the quality of care (“The Triple Aim: Care, Health, And Cost Health Affairs,” 2019).

The work life of health care providers has been improved by evidence based practice. Staff burnout has a direct negative effect on the experience of care for the patient. There’s also a correlation between high levels of staff engagement and high level of patient engagement. Staff are much more likely to be enthusiastic and positive about securing the best outcomes for patients when they feel supported, empowered, and respected. Sikka “et al” says that the triple aim does not acknowledge the role of healthcare professionals finding happiness and fulfillment at work (2015). The dysfunctional work environment is due to a shift from a public service to a business model with caring relationships reduced to productivity (Sikka, Morath, & Leape, 2015). Evidence based practice and implementation has been shown by studies to increase job satisfaction and group happiness (Kim et al., 2016).

Student Learning Outcomes – Critical Thinking

Student Learning Outcomes – Critical ThinkingAssignment:You are to read the attached article, “The Unintended Consequences of Raising the Minimum Wage to $15,” by Jack Kelly and then critically evaluate his argument(s).  You are to present your findings in accordance with the Rubric provided. Thus there will be five sections and they will each be graded according to the points established on the Rubric. Please use 11- or 12-point, sans serif font (Ariel is good). Line spacing should be 1.5 or 2.  Check your grammar, syntax, and spelling. Be very careful with your citations; they will be checked. When you have prepared your document, submit it on Canvas under ‘Assignments.’ Format must be either .doc or .docx. Present your findings in the following order:1)    Clearly state the issue and briefly describe the most important factors to be examined in this decision. Explain why you are focused on these particular factors – why do you think they are the most important things to consider? (~ ½ page)2)    Present your evidence supporting both sides of the issue and provide the citations (at least three for each side of the issue) necessary so that your reader can return to your source material to verify your findings.  (~ ½ – 1 page)3)    Identify the assumptions made in the arguments made on both sides of the issue – for example, why might someone argue that the demand for entry-level fast-food workers might not be affected by a higher required wage? Do you identify any biases in your evidence? ((~ ½  page)4)    Given all the above, what is your position on raising the minimum wage to $15 nationwide? Do not limit yourself to saying, ‘I support/don’t support this policy proposal.’ Rather, explain and defend your position, adding any caveats or other considerations to your answer. This is also a chance to be creative – do you have a proposal of your own that addresses some (or all) concerns of both sides? (~1/2 page)5)    Assuming you were asked about this proposal by a friend, how would you respond? Limit this response to about 4-5 short statements. (~1/2 page)You should consider the following factors, at a minimum, as you research and construct your paper:a)The effect of such a rise on overall unemployment in the US as well as unemployment in specific industries and among specific groups of American workers (to include immigrant labor, unskilled labor, and those with minimal educational levels);b)    The likely response among employers (include multiple industries and employers of different sizes) if they must implement such a policy;c)The psychological effect of such a policy on workers and employers;d)    The macro-economic effect of such a policy for the country at large as well as any micro-economic effects on particular industries;e)    Any other parameters you deem worthy of consideration (think broadly here, but focus on the most important impacts – e.g., the impact on high-school dropout rates; the impact on

non-minimum wage jobs; the effect on prices in labor-intensive and non-labor-intensive industries. Be wide-ranging in your considerations, but focus on those that you view as most important. Explain why you chose these parameters as worthy of consideration

Brochure format must be original/ no plagiarism/scholarly Resources/ must add color photos

Economic Principles – Microeconomics

Develop a paper in which you select an industry that interests you, describe that industry, and explain how government might impact the industry.

An Example Economic Paper and Economic Paper Template are provided below for this assignment.

Instructions

Review your chapter readings and use the resources provided to develop a 2–3-page paper on Economic Principles – Microeconomics in which you:

  1. Visit the Census Bureau (NAICS) website and select an industry that has a description. Some of the smaller industries are named, but not described.
    • The industry could be broad, such as industry 11 Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing, and Hunting, or it could be narrow, such as industry 112112 Cattle Feedlots.
      • The more digits in the industry label, the narrower the industry.
  2. In a few short paragraphs, describe your selected industry using the industry description at the NAICS website.
    • Be sure to write in your own words. Don’t just copy and paste the NAICS text.
    • Identify some of the major companies in this industry
    • Identify the goods, and/or services this industry produces. Use the information from the NAICS website. You can supplement this information with what you find in a separate Google search.
  3. Describe a microeconomic variable for your industry. Microeconomic variables include prices, sales, production, advertising, investment, etc.
  4. Include a graph, chart, or table showing this microeconomic variable over time.
    • You do not need to create this graph, chart, or table. Find one that has already been created and paste it into your paper. For example, if your industry is U.S. automobile manufacturing, Google, “U.S. automobile manufacturing over time.” Select the “images” option. Choose one of the graphs, charts, or tables. Then copy and paste it into your paper.
    • Include a reference to the source of the graph, chart, or table. Microeconomic relationships and market outcomes are covered in Weeks 2–4.
  5. Describe one way the government might impact this industry. Examples might include price controls, regulations, taxes, or any other way you can think of.
    • Government intervention through price controls, regulations, taxes, and antitrust enforcement were covered in Weeks 2 and 4.
  6. This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

Resources to Complete the Assignment

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

  • Explain economic principles and their applications in the real world.

Types of Data

According to Cohen and Spenciner (2009), educators watch student behavior across a myriad of school environments. Because of this, it is important for educators to define behavior in observable terms so that each person conducting an observation has the same definition of the behavior they are recording in the data collection tool (p. 249). Data tells a story. There are many methods of collecting data specifically pertaining to challenging behaviors. Please take about 15 minutes to review these data collection tools (Links to an external site.) and the examples of data collection forms that are commonly used in the practice of special education.

Another way to collect data while focusing on its function is to create an ABC analysis. The IRIS Center (Links to an external site.) is a website that discusses how using an A-B-C analysis can help guide the observation and create cohesiveness across the education environment. (We will be referencing this type of data collection again in Week Four.)

For this discussion, review the instructor guidance, The IRIS Center website, recommended videos, and information from the text to inform your response.

For this discussion:

  • First, identify the disability you are focusing on for this course (intellectual disability).
  • Next, describe the behavior you are observing in operational terms (use the five components discussed in the A-B-C Analysis Form download).
  • Synthesize at least three data collection tools (p. 250-251) you would select to report out findings on the behavior.
